I was swimming in Spain a few months ago on holiday, I thought I'd give front crawl a go, and it was going alright..so I decided to swim outwards a little bit and then before I knew it I had lost the ground. I almost drowned when I was 7. I was in 8 feet deep. And ever since then I am terrified of deep water. I really want to learn how to survive and swim in deep water.
KingdomMinded 87 Same happened to me but I was 7 or 8 and I was in swimming class and sank to the bottom of the pool. I quit the class and I regret it because now I *kinda* know how to swim 😭 I joined a summer camp and almost everyone knows how to swim except me and I want to learn now!
Michelle Harris to swim faster stop trying so hard and try to be calm, so kick average and calm, then you will notice your swimming faster,at least it that's what I think
Michelle Harris To improve your kicking, first. Knees and feet together, when kicking relax your feet. Kick in a kind of wobbling motion, up and down. Do it quite fast but still relax your feet if speed is what you're aiming for, once you add strokes you can kick a bit slower to preserve your energy.
I learned to tread water yesterday and I went into the deep end and I wasn't allowed in it anymore until I was better because I scared the life guards.... 😔
I went to the deepest water of a huge Waterpark when I was a 7. I saw some adults having fun there and I figured I join then without knowing that it was deep, I thought all the pool was the same depth. And I actually learned how to swim from that moment and I overcame the fear of deep water before I even had fear
As someone who is forced to tread water for like 5 minutes in swimming class I agree with the point "no one can tread water upright for very long, " it is insanely hard to do. However, saying that, I have witnessed swim instructors tread water for about 30 minutes non-stop, so it all depends on the physical ability. Edit: my swim instructors aren't ever gasping for breath too! Idk how they do it!
Yes indeed! I actually had to stop swimming for a while due to an allergic reaction to water, but it seems treading has become somewhat easier as of late.
I'm pretty fat and I can pretty much float without anywork at all. For sure in the ocean. I can hold my feet all the way down and together and my hands at my side and keep my nose out of the water.

That's good you should be! Although there are new plumbing codes in place to drastically reduce suction, some old pools still have the old style drains.
It wasn't until I realized that all I had to do was get my head on the water somehow that I stopped sinking like a rock. The head is heavy (about ten pounds in an average adult), so holding it out of the water weighs you down. When you make it buoyant by getting in the water, you float easier. Once I realized that, then the deep end was not a worry because all I had to do was get on my back and have my head in the water to float comfortably if I got into trouble.
Got recommended this video because I dove into my local pool and got crazy anxiety so I googled how to Overcome the deep end, just to find out you're teaching me from the same pool that gave me anxiety!
I appreciate your videos bro. Gave me the courage to jump in the deep end, and I found out I actually knew how to swim the whole time I was just being a bitch.
Learning to swim these days. I alternate between fearing water and gaining comfort. What works for me is practising little things. I found myself struggling to stand up after floating or kicking. That led to slipping, inhaling water and overall panicking. So I practised getting up. First by holding wall, multiple tries, then getting progressively farther away. It’s become a lot better but sometimes I still slip. Practise is needed here.
Okay I have been swimming since I was about four (not everyday but still) but I still have this feeling that happens when I’m just walking down the poolside (inside the pool) and then I take a step forward and I can’t touch the ground. It makes me panic a bit and my stomach plummets (kinda like what happens right before I almost fall while ice skating)

I m still learning and I still can't think of going to the deeper side of the pool alone without my instructor . But what I have found that I can swim and go across the pool in 5'6" deep water , also means I can practically do the same in 10 ft deep water but if I stop thinking. It's all psychological and I found one thing very helpful . Getting comfortable in deep water was to actually go inside the pool very close to the edge of the pool and then kick the floor and come out and take the breath . This if I do a few times helps me get rid of my fear temporarily. Also when instructor is there we do diagonally across the deeper side of the pool which gives confidence and also feels a lot safer.

Justin Patrick My bad, I meant Outdoor pool. and yes. Sea water taste bad, Corals on the floor, Marine life, Uncontrolled environment too. I agree. PS. this video is making me go learn to swim already haha. Thanks for the Videos.
I go swimming lessons and I know how to swim but the deep end is very scary. I have quite a lot of people in the lesson so, the teacher in the water is not normally looking at everyone. This really helped me. THX
I took swimming classes during my childhood years. I am sure i still pretty much know how to swim but once i'm in the deep water my heart beats so damn fast to the point of panicking already. I am also afraid of swimming/diving in the deep blue sea, cause i feel like won't be able to swim back up when i run out of breath. I can swim but only in instances where my feet can still reach the ground. Fml
I sometimes swim regularly deep and regular one but when ever i kick it feels like someone’s holding me and i cant move no matter how hard i kick my point is i cant really move if i kick im just kicking in one place anyone knows what i can do
This gave me more confidence and made me feel safer. I have a kind of test to determine how fast you swim (for water polo) and not only am I REALLY afraid of the deep end, I can't tread water. So his advice really made me feel safer and not stress out as much. 💕
I'm begin swimmer and I used to panic when I swam to deep water. That was my first time to swim in deep water. My feet weren't touch under ground then I fear of die but suddenly I thought if I feared and not swim back I will die soon. So I try hard to swim. And I can do it. I was really exhausted but still alive.
At the moment I’m swimming with school and next week I’m going into the big group (in the deep end) and we have to swim under water. This helped so much! ❤️
coach justin, kindly teach me how to do underwater swimming?as soon as i dip inside water and try to propel further i am thursted back to surface.thank u
Awesome job! Well made vid. Great instruction. Most of all...YOU REMEMBER WHAT ITS LIKE BEFORE YOU WERE A SWIMMER! 99% of lifeguards and coaches are "naturals": they can tell you what to do but can't relate to your struggle. They think that giving you instructions that your brain can comprehend will automatically result in actions your body can follow. Not true! They also give a long list of do this, do that type stuff thatis way more complicated than they know. It's simple for them but they already had a water awareness that most folks don't have. And for that, they have no advice! Honestly, I'm a water person and have always felt at ease even if I had no technique. But I struggle with proper swimming form cause I don't naturally know how to move through water even though I'm not scared of it. So I really appreciate where you're coming from. Thank you, sir !
Bro I almost drowned in the deep end I’m sooo lucky a floaty was next to me. I would’ve died. No one was there and no lifeguard and I tried screaming for help but it made it worse. Never going there again
I have never had swimming lessons, but my dad taught me how to swim a couple of yrs ago when I was young. For the people who don’t know how to swim I recommend practicing with a floaty or do swimming lessons. Also like this guy said in the video hold the railing or edges Incase you start going under the water.
I practice swimming in the shallow end. That way, if I panic in the deep end, I have the strength and stamina (and confidence) to swim to the wall. If I have to be in the deep water for an extended period, I would backfloat as long as possible.
It would also be good to practice with different levels of depth. Start off with a height that's slightly taller than you, since it's extremely simple to reach the bottom and bounce back up. Then start to add more depth as you learn to prefect what you need to do to get to the surface. You'll not be able to always relieve of one method to reach the top, so learn a variety of ways on how to get back up. And remember, a pool is still a pool, no matter what depth. You're in safer waters and in a condition that's in yohr favor. As for more natural waters, get to know the waters BEFORE you go in, as well as DURING you get in there. If you're scared of the animals (tbh, they're the least threatening thing you should be concerned with), start off by watching videos on how those creatures behave, understand their language. As for underwater currents, you may have to go study that a bit and look at procedures needed to get out of a sticky situation. Overall, here's some things to always tell yourself when swimming. - You can actually swim farther than you think you could - knowing is half the battle; time spent being in fear is time wasted - never forgot that you have confidence, which unironically helps you swim better. Just because you don't fully know something doesn't mean you can't adapt All of this takes time to get use to, but so does everything. Telling yourself you can't do it won't do anything but slow you down. Having knowledge and bravery really helps, especially when in a pinch.
Justin, I am 67. It is time to make the deep end part of my room before I die of old age. Nice video. Can't be worse than learning to ride a motorcycle at age 63.
I swim at my best friend's house... his brother, me, my brother, and my best friend swim over there my brother and my best friend are always in the deep end.... My best friend's brother is too short to go and I'm too scared.
I had a nightmare my 4yr old son fell into 11ft water at the YMCA. I woke up crying bc of how scared I was . I had to watch this to kind of comfort myself if that were to EVER happen. Even though I’m already watching them like a hawk when we go swimming. I am EXTRA cautious of that now. I can swim but I panic if I start thinking how I can’t touch the bottom 😭😭 how can you save someone if you’re panicking
At my school you have to pass the deep water test, I'm not a strong swimmer but somehow I passed it. (I switched positions alot of times) Since I passed it I could go to the 9ft area, I almost drowned there many times but my friends were near to help me
But what if someone is in a deep pond, ocean, or lake then what is best to keep from running out of energy and thus increasing the possibility of drowning?
I'm scared of the drains at the bottom and cracks at the bottom of the pool. Deep dark water is a hell no. Lakes either.. I don't like algae or fish swimming or brushing up against me.
Justin Thanks a lot, I really mean, a lot. I have been trying to learn swimming for last four years, and u won't believe that I haven't been able to go to the deeper side of the pool, I know freestyle, backstroke, breakstroke and butterfly kicks and also just floating, but still I am afraid of drowning if I go to the deeper side, I only sit at the stairs looking at the water and others swimming at the deeper side. But then u said exactly the things that I wanted to hear from my coach about how to overcome my fear of swimming in the deeper side. Thanks a lot. It will be helpful for me if I ask u questions and u answer me in comments if I face difficulties in swimming. It would help me a lot. Thanks again vertual coach!

Justin Patrick My bad, I meant Outdoor pool. and yes. Sea water taste bad, Corals on the floor, Marine life, Uncontrolled environment too. I agree.
PS. this video is making me go learn to swim already haha. Thanks for the Videos.
Ace Verhel True, swimming in the ocean is just invading the sea life's habitat.
Ya
Justin Patrick I love the way you a are not mean my real swimming teacher is thow 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
The ocean is my room... cool so where's my 4 walls? I'm thinking maybe invisible walls and aquaman is my savior. Haha
I go swimming lessons and I know how to swim but the deep end is very scary. I have quite a lot of people in the lesson so, the teacher in the water is not normally looking at everyone. This really helped me. THX

I didnt know he could Reverse time
I took swimming classes during my childhood years. Fml
I enjoy learning more about synchronizing the breathing, kicking with correct stroke movements. Love these reviews 🏊♂️
You've been so very helpful! Thank you!
I sometimes swim regularly deep and regular one but when ever i kick it feels like someone’s holding me and i cant move no matter how hard i kick my point is i cant really move if i kick im just kicking in one place anyone knows what i can do
Fun fact: your only scared because of the water being foggy or you cant see how deep it is.
Omg thank you for that X Y axis thing that helped me a lot
i love your video but my teacher fforces me to swin at the center part not the side where i can grab onto the side! what should i do?
This gave me more confidence and made me feel safer. I have a kind of test to determine how fast you swim (for water polo) and not only am I REALLY afraid of the deep end, I can't tread water. So his advice really made me feel safer and not stress out as much. 💕
I just jumped yesterday in the local pool and now i dare to jump into deep water because of you thank you very much!
Thank you for all your swimming videos I appreciate them, and you. I subscribed.😗
bro where do u swim? theres playin kaleo - no good in the background, i love it
The people who disliked this video is probably the person who is scared to be in a deep water
Thank You So Mush because this helped me a lot and this is the first time I have watched your video thank yo soo much
Thank you for showing me how to get use to it
I’m more scared of the drain!😂
Right!
I’m fine with them I sometimes touch them but now I second thoughts
At the moment I’m swimming with school and next week I’m going into the big group (in the deep end) and we have to swim under water. This helped so much! ❤️
coach justin, kindly teach me how to do underwater swimming?as soon as i dip inside water and try to propel further i am thursted back to surface.thank u
Is it easier to float in a saltwater sea vs a freshwater lake/river? Or unnoticeable difference.
Damn that is so good you are ok
This helped so much! Thank you!
I have never had swimming lessons, but my dad taught me how to swim a couple of yrs ago when I was young. For the people who don’t know how to swim I recommend practicing with a floaty or do swimming lessons. Also like this guy said in the video hold the railing or edges Incase you start going under the water.
It's like I'm not scared, it's just sometimes you can't see the bottom. And you don't know whats at the bottom.
I practice swimming in the shallow end. That way, if I panic in the deep end, I have the strength and stamina (and confidence) to swim to the wall. If I have to be in the deep water for an extended period, I would backfloat as long as possible.
hey... was this video shot in surrey aquatic centre, Guildford ?
Thanks, Justin! That was helpful.
I thought this would be something for freediving, this water is not deep. Deep is over 30m for me and when it’s unclear I don’t feel comfortable.
Why does a pool even need to have a deep area? 5ft all throughout should be standard. Unless of course it’s for diving athletes.
Alexander A taller,ppl maybe
well you wouldn't wanna hit the ground when jumping into the water from one of those pedestals, would you?
Random Guy Also, It's cool to reach the bottom of the pool and watch things from there.
MrWolfy agreed ^^
because its fun and stop being grumpy
Do you release all your air on the way down?
nice video, but what if u r trying to swim in the sea, where there r no walls?
- You can actually swim farther than you think you could
- knowing is half the battle; time spent being in fear is time wasted
- never forgot that you have confidence, which unironically helps you swim better. Just because you don't fully know something doesn't mean you can't adapt
All of this takes time to get use to, but so does everything. Telling yourself you can't do it won't do anything but slow you down. Having knowledge and bravery really helps, especially when in a pinch.
idk why this was recommended to me but this pool is like ten minutes away from me and we’re broth korean that coincidence though
I swim in a 15ft deep pool every Saturday and I’ve been doing it since I was 4 I’m 10 and I’m still scared of it!! What do I do?
Justin, I am 67. It is time to make the deep end part of my room before I die of old age. Nice video. Can't be worse than learning to ride a motorcycle at age 63.
0:27 gave me anxiety sheesh lol
my god samw
I swim at my best friend's house... his brother, me, my brother, and my best friend swim over there my brother and my best friend are always in the deep end.... My best friend's brother is too short to go and I'm too scared.
I am swimming with my school in two weeks and this really helped me!
Thanks justine very helpfull 💪🏾 i also subbed thx for the tips
I had a nightmare my 4yr old son fell into 11ft water at the YMCA. I woke up crying bc of how scared I was . I had to watch this to kind of comfort myself if that were to EVER happen. Even though I’m already watching them like a hawk when we go swimming. I am EXTRA cautious of that now. I can swim but I panic if I start thinking how I can’t touch the bottom 😭😭 how can you save someone if you’re panicking
At my school you have to pass the deep water test, I'm not a strong swimmer but somehow I passed it. (I switched positions alot of times) Since I passed it I could go to the 9ft area, I almost drowned there many times but my friends were near to help me
Love this video, I believe ITS helpfull to beginners like me. Thanks Justin.
But what if someone is in a deep pond, ocean, or lake then what is best to keep from running out of energy and thus increasing the possibility of drowning?
I'm scared of the drains at the bottom and cracks at the bottom of the pool. Deep dark water is a hell no. Lakes either.. I don't like algae or fish swimming or brushing up against me.
yeh i avoid creepy lakes :)
thx man I'm taking swimming lessons
snapchat zaygotbandz77 me too
Hms warriors Cheer vlogs how r u doin can u swim yet??
instagram luhcurlyhead_zay I've already swam 2 miles in swimming lessons no help it's really hard thought
Justin
Thanks a lot, I really mean, a lot.
So informative. Thank you for these tips. 🏊♀️
