    If 1mg of Finasteride period would cause side effects then it would stand to reason that 1 mg of Finasteride once would suddenly stop your hair from falling out but we know that's not true. The simple answer is a lot of people do research online and turn into hypochondriacs afraid over every possibility.
    I saw a dude on Reddit insist he felt like he was developing side effects from LOOKING at Finasteride, not even taking it.

  • @Boogaloo55th

    I got my first box of finasteride today off my doctor I've seen for over 12 years. He said that he used to be against the idea of it, because of the possible side effects and it being used by alot of younger men for cosmetic reasons rather than health. He has changed his mind on the drug, because over 95% of the guys he's prescribed it to for hair loss, have no side effects and if they do it's usually something cialas will fix. That put me at alot of ease. He did say some guys can feel a bit depressed until their body becomes used to it, but depression from hairloss is definitely real if you're a guy that wants to hold onto it. My dr is also completely bald on top and says he wishes it was prescribed for hairloss when he was younger. What's the worse that can really happen lads?

    • @RandyLibertadF

      You can do it, they work in different ways, so you can use them together. Minoxidil is a growth promoter but keep in mind you are going to be forced to use it for the rest of your life if you want to keep your gains. Alfatradiol is not that strong to stop hair loss from what I heard. It works, but if your hair loss is aggressive you will need something more powerful.

    • @3PICAT
      @3PICAT 3 года назад +1

      I’m not a doctor but from the research I’ve done you can definitely mix minoxidil and stemoxydine together since they work differently. The difference is simple really
      Minoxidil
      -clinically proven hair stimulant that you can either get off brand or the more expensive Rogaine foam
      -the hair you grow with minoxidil will fall off if you stop using it. Means you will have to you use it for life.
      Stemoxydine
      -patented hair growth stimulant by L’Oréal (means you can only buy it from them, wich depending on where you live can be costly)
      -the research behind it is not very extensive so it’s not guaranteed that it works (L’Oréal obviously says that it does)
      -the hair that you grow with it can potentially stay even when you stop using it (but again this probably needs more studies to be sure about)

    • @abdulhakbayan7271
      @abdulhakbayan7271 3 года назад

      @@3PICAT Thank you for explaining that yes i think they can be used together also because you really need just one time application for each one of them , the thing as you said there is L’Oréal and other brand I guess is Garnier but the research on it was only from these two companies

  • @callumslash4289
    @callumslash4289 3 года назад +13

    🤗Hello Dr Vikram! First off thanks for the great channel. I have a question, finasteride is one of the drugs on the deferral list when it comes to blood donation. You have to wait for a whole month( 28 days) after the last dose to donate blood again. In another one of your videos, you said that patients can take a few weeks off the drug for reasons such as pregnancy and vacations and so on. I understand that you cannot prescribe a break from finasteride but is there a way, I could theoretically donate blood once or twice a year (taking a break from finasteride once or twice a year)? I know I should check with my personal healthcare professional, I will but I trust your opinion as well so it would be awesome if you guys can suggest a pharmacotherapy plan for myself, not necessarily a finalised one as I will discuss that with my dermatologist. I actually want to go on finasteride just so I can donate my hair for cancer patients but I also want to donate blood and help people. It is honestly depressing because I have finally managed to grow out my hair and want to help. I also am AB+( I know I am not AB- which is more valuable) so my blood plasma will be extra useful if I can manage to wait for a month and a week( at least once a year) to donate both my blood and blood plasma, it is just depressing 😭 . I just need to know if I can still keep my hair while taking a break every six months or so. Maybe I could start the drug for a year and then proceed with a pharmacotherapy plan such as this. Anyways thank you for your time. If you could reply to my question, I will appreciate it massively. Thanks 😊 again and have a great time reading the comments doc! Oh and tell Dr Russell I said hi 👋 too!

    But even with a small dose of 3mg per week, won't finasterid build up systemically over time so that we reach the 70 percent DHT inhibition eventually, but just at a later point?

    • @shalizzle793
      @shalizzle793 2 года назад +1

      The buildup vs. enzyme production likely isn’t large enough to have an infinitely linear effect, meaning eventually the dose that builds up in your system will flatten as you reach the peak of the enzyme production/enzyme blocking proportion.
      That’s likely why they prescribe 3mg per week though, since the buildup, in a way of looking at it, adds “more.”

    If you're inhibiting a normal metabolite process of testosterone what do you think is going to happen?, 5ar is there for a reason, inhibiting this process can never be considered natural, let alone healthy as it can have tremendous and devastating side effects depending on the biology of the individual who took the drug.

    I hear a lot of stories especially concerning tinnitus, either that Fin caused it or aggravated it after like 5 days and with 0.25 mg/day. It seems so weird to me that a side effect can occur after this very short amount of time. 5 days with 0.25 mg does literally nothing. It does nothing even after a month. I do not know why that happens. Maybe it's nocebo who knows.

    • @algo2957
      @algo2957 Год назад +4

      I took finasteride 1mg for the first time ever today and I'm experiencing tinnitus but it's mild. That's not a nocebo effect, I didn't even know that tinnitus was a side effect with this drug. I googled online to check afterwards and there it was.

    • @abrielrobertsson4160
      @abrielrobertsson4160 Год назад

      @@algo2957 Again, it's just super weird to me. Nocebo doesn't always happen when and where you expect it to happen. If you believe negative effects are going to happen, they're gonna affect parts where you least expect it. I don't wanna doubt your experience, but seriously, 1 day?! Scientifically speaking, taking 1 mg does nothing in one day, since it's quite a low dose. In order for Finasteride to work properly, it needs to build up in your system. That's why it takes at least 3 months for you to see any result. Then again, I've heard people say the drug increases inflammation, even though that's never been proven. Try stopping and see if your tinnitus goes away, then start again for about a week or two and see if it comes back again. Then you'll know if there's a definitive correlation between the drug and your symptoms.

To make sure I don't suffer a nocebo effect, I mixed 3 fin pills, with 3 iron supplement pills (nearly identical) in a plastic jar. Hello. Thanks. I’m wondering if you know of any data on finasteride causing “flare ups” in preexisting conditions - mainly ankylosing spondylitis? I have a history of AS and I experienced flare-ups last year when I began finasteride and again this year when I began again (I took a 2-3 month break). I wouldn’t normally have flare-ups this many times per year, although it did go away last year even as I kept with the finasteride. Just thought I’d ask cause of the timing of my finasteride treatment and my flare ups. These flare ups are the worst I’ve had and disrupt my sleep. Maybe it’s not worth it if the finasteride is the culprit. Thanks for your input.

I continued for another 2 days, and the dizziness has subsided. I will continue with Finasteride as i wish to see some benefits. Hope the dizziness will not re-appear.

    For the record I have used finasteride for 10 years to good effect for hair loss, I am an advocate, but like many who have taken it for years can clearly recall the feeling of "being kicked in the nuts" in initial weeks.
    However, what I wanted to disagree with is the unsatisfactory explanation for side-effects not being physiological for people, because "1mg is such a low dose compared to 5mg". The drug clearly has little dose-dependency. One pill of 0,2mg is cutting DHT by 50%, that's pretty f'ing physiological if you wanted to investigate a mechanism for a side-effect.

      If that's not the case, it could be high estrogen or something, all side effects are due some problem in hormone levels.
