That showmanship translates well to a song, and if they can get just one scene to turn up the ham, it has to be a song, which is easily the most memorable. And if they sound like they're having fun singing it, all the better!

Other than that, I consider it to be one of the greatest villain songs of all time.
They used "Crawl into place" because of the fact that when the Tsar's children, specifically Anastasia were shot, she bleeding and screaming in pain, tried to crawl away, so they're referencing that.
I know I'm late to the party, but I also want to mention that they're not rhyming place with place. The rhyme is actually "Fall into place" and "Crawl into place". Personally I think it flows really well, especially with the emphasis on "Crawl"
