To me you already have a tow truck, I would consider making a support truck that has a 4-link type setup with winches and kinetic ropes. Kind of like Matt having the morvair. This truck could be outfitted with a welder and tools and other recovery stuff again to assist your wrecker. Either way it is going to be awesome and a sweet build to watch!!!
Wow the way that guy effortlessly moved the truck w the forks was impressive. I thought it was gonna slip and come rolling backwards. He even raised the forks perfectly as the truck went higher up the ramps Love seeing Abby adulting, super cool Mara is hilarious Eric was like a kid in a candy store figuring out what all those spare parts were. He is so smart, I would of been lucky to guess half of them right Blake is looking nice with his beard
Watching these videos has taught me Seatcover doesn’t age, and Baby Seatcover is growing up quick. Seemed it was just last week she was strapped in a car seat playing while stuff was getting hooked up.
It sucks that the Topkick has given you so much grief. You'll get it sorted out soon enough. Good thing that Ram got you there hauling that big trailer.
I've gotta give props to that skidsteer driver...he made it look easy but the back of that pickup was moving sideways and up/down and he was moving his forks on the fly with minimal stopping to readjust while he pushed and loaded that pickup. 👏
Eric and Mara I know you all are not Ford fans. I would like to see you swapping in 1 Ton axles with radius arms from a 05 and newer Super duty truck. They are plenty strong and then there is tons of aftermarket parts plus you will get 4 wheel disc brakes. Thanks for the great video
We had two of these with the fiberglass roof that we used as brush fire trucks. 250 gallon tanks. If i remember right the fire department bought them for a dollar from the government. They still had the rifle mounts in the cab. The compartment under the bed was perfect for hand tools. You didn’t get there fast but you could take them anywhere off road. Spent more than a few nights in one of these on fire watch. Wasco Rural Fire Department owned them but I think they where surplus and sold after they became Mid-Columbia Fire and Rescue back in the late 90’s early 2000’s.
This may have already been said, but the exhaust manifolds, thermostat housing, water outlet and dust cover look to be from an IH engine. This is going to be a really cool project. Looking forward to watching it take shape!!
Yahoo! This is gonna be exciting. I vote doing that black wrecker body or something similar and 12 valve. I was also thinking if it’s gonna be Seatcover’s it probably be a good idea to give it a good roll cage if not an exo-cage of some sort to protect her… and the truck. 😬
It continues to amaze me that folks can look at the hulk of a vehicle and over time, turn it into quite a project which is a masterpiece when done. I am looking forward to watching this happen.
Eric for Mara on the recovery truck I would install a air ride commercial truck seat. I have had back problems and they way I got around stiff supesion is with a Bostrom air seat low profile then built a base to fit the truck or van.
Well looks like almost every comment is someone telling you what to do with your new truck so I won't be another! Looks awesome and you'll probably change your mind at least a couple times on drivetrain before that thing moves under its own power. Got lots of potential and I'll be looking forward to this build series. Good luck guys!
That's going to make a awesome addition to The Recovery Team Fleet! I'm looking forward to watching the build. And little seat cover has really grown up fast.
Congratulations on your new project and getting it home in the shop! Looks like it will be a fun build. I think you would really enjoy having a 16 valve Cummins in there!! Just my suggestion but it is your truck, so what ever you do it will be cool. Thanks for taking us along to sidco with you.
You need a Motorized Wheelbarrow & that Datsun will fit the bill. I had a 71 & wished I never got rid of it. Be a great little shop truck or you could probly flip it. There’s a lot of RUclipsrs fixing these trucks up & there’s a lot of comments wishing they had one. I would buy this one if I didn’t live so far away.
Eric/Mara you two got yourselves treasure that is a puzzle at the same time, and both of you are going to have a ton of fun building this behemoth, Rory is right you have to collect all the parts you need and like, Eric as for axles you will be making another trip to your buddies place he has all the axles you will ever need and you can get parts for all of them , possibly a 1 ton rear and a Dana 60 front if you feel that'll be strong enough to handle 40" tires and the weight and where and tear of it being a recovery unit for the trail, either way it's going to be cool, and unique when your done and i'll see every video 👍
I have a 78 jeep j10 that I made a j20 a while ago. Its got a 455 olds and a th400 with a dana 20. I've always had a soft spot for the m 715's and j series trucks and Cherokees and wagoneers.
5.9 Cummings or if you can find a 7.3 with a turbo would be great choice for the project good luck with your build and great video keep up the good work God bless from GA and stay safe
Great truck for a very deserving and Beautiful Mrs. I can't wait to see her working on her rig getting to know it like no one else. In the future in the woods she'll be the Queen of recovery not just the affectionate " Seat Belt", lots of love for you Young Lady. You all are in my prayers Hoka Hey
Congrats on getting the new project home!! I think you and Mara are going to have a blast making the "new" tow truck. I know I'll have a great time watching you do it!!!
For the PowerPlant, I would drop a Detroit in it. You know and I know that Detroit built a lot of powerful diesel engines, and you couldn't hear nothing for about 4 hours after running it. But, that was a real PowerPlant. Good luck with the rebuild.
For the weight and oil leaks, Detroit are pretty gutless engines in the power department. Especially one small enough to fit in that truck. And he would have to file an environmental impact statement every time he ran it, for the oil leaks. Bad idea.
I've actually got a set of the axles out from under a M715 sitting beside my garage that I was gonna use under my old mud truck project that I'm trying to get rid of, nice project.
That is so cool!
ohhh that studebaker at 2:00 i love ww2 iron
A tip of the hat to the bobcat driver how put it on the trailer. I love watching really good bobcat and forklift operators work. It’s like ballet.
I agree.
This guy dreams of fork lifting and such. 😅😂
@@Stupidasoh “Joined Sep 17, 2023” 🙄
The fella driving the skid steer is a bit of an expert. He did an excellent job loading the truck.
While healing is the best time to design the truck and start part shopping and gathering.
one smooth bob cat operator
Smashing the like button for the new Recovery truck funds fundraiser project all the way out here from Guam.
Likewise from Romania 🤣❤️🇷🇴
Likewise from the Great Lake State, Michigan USA
guy in the bobcat gets an A+
That place is a junk yard heaven

I agree, a competent companion vehicle could be really helpful
Companion is towbie. Second wrecker is for when the first wrecker is down.
It is for her, so just how far is she going to go with this build.
Amazing thing's are about to happen. 🇺🇸
Wow the way that guy effortlessly moved the truck w the forks was impressive. I thought it was gonna slip and come rolling backwards. He even raised the forks perfectly as the truck went higher up the ramps
Love seeing Abby adulting, super cool
Mara is hilarious
Eric was like a kid in a candy store figuring out what all those spare parts were. He is so smart, I would of been lucky to guess half of them right
Blake is looking nice with his beard
And then he pops a Wheelie!! Definitely not a rookie......
Yeah - this guy REALLY knew what he was doing...!
Baby Seat cover did an excellent job at the steering wheel.
Compound turbo 12 valve Cummins is my vote.
I’ve always wanted to put an air cooled duetz in a truck. Simple, reliable, and no radiator.
I have a buddy that's a Duetz tractor mechanic. He put an air cooled Duetz diesel in a square body dually.
Hauled his pulling tractor around with it.
I just plain love you people, recycling, reusing, fixing, no new garbage technology just for the sake of selling computer chips..
Watching these videos has taught me Seatcover doesn’t age, and Baby Seatcover is growing up quick. Seemed it was just last week she was strapped in a car seat playing while stuff was getting hooked up.
I was thinking the same thing !!
You took quite a bite with this truck, but once it comes out of its' "cocoon" it will be quite a rig.
Can't wait for this to begin it's transformation!! The M(ara)715 !
It sucks that the Topkick has given you so much grief. You'll get it sorted out soon enough. Good thing that Ram got you there hauling that big trailer.
12 valve cummins, rockwells dual steer, transfer case doubler, 44 inch tires would be a heck of a start.
I've gotta give props to that skidsteer driver...he made it look easy but the back of that pickup was moving sideways and up/down and he was moving his forks on the fly with minimal stopping to readjust while he pushed and loaded that pickup. 👏
always good to have a backup wrecker incase one is down or you need two for a job.✌😆
My parents have one of those Datsun's it still runs and drives to this day.
The joys of going through a new to you vehicle and finding all the goodies it holds..
Best unboxing video ever...lol
That toolbox is like Mary Poppins bag
That's going to be one bad tow truck and unique too.
I'm so glad you chose that one and I'm so glad your moving forward with growing.. thank you all so much ❤
Cummins would be a neat option for the new rig!
Has all the makeins of a sweet truck .
Nice project to break the new lift in on.
Eric and Mara

Cummins 6bt diesel Eric, old school mechanical.

That's what I was thinking IH engine
@@wesalbright9817 Same here.
That burley old pickup is killer AF
Rooting through the treasure boxes that come with a new project is fun. I always feel like Indiana Jones when I do it.
I was waiting for the rest of an engine to be pulled out.
I like the diesel for its torque and steadyness, gas engines seem to want to have a cough just when you need it the most
I knew when you showed this truck you guys were taking it home it's going to be a awesome recovery truck
Back in truck heaven
Awesome guys put a Cummins in that thing
Yahoo! This is gonna be exciting. I vote doing that black wrecker body or something similar and 12 valve. I was also thinking if it’s gonna be Seatcover’s it probably be a good idea to give it a good roll cage if not an exo-cage of some sort to protect her… and the truck. 😬
That is just one old cool truck. The possibilities are endless.
Woo hoo ! New wrecker project to kick merlins jeet definitely needs a cummins for a power plant .....
Good job Little Seatcover! Maybe that’s your future truck!
It continues to amaze me that folks can look at the hulk of a vehicle and over time, turn it into quite a project which is a masterpiece when done. I am looking forward to watching this happen.

The new truck has a lot of potential. I’m excited to see what you create.
Seems like a perfect candidate for an 8.1 LS and Allison transmission.
👍👍👍
Love the truck!! I suggest a 5.9 Cummins and have Merlin (Merlin's old school garage) build it, would be a cool collaboration video.
Way cool, glad you decided to go back and get it!

4 link, ories, and a 12 valve with leafs in rear with some ories

I think a 12 valve p-pump Cummins would of be better that a 16 valve with an Allison automatic for seat cover to drive.
I think its gonna be an awesome tow truck. I can see it with Mara behind the wheel 6BT cummins idling with smoke coming out the stack.

I can’t wait see the start of this recovery truck. Hope you get to feeling better soon Mara
That will make an excellent dual truck; a back up tow rig/SeatCover rig, as well as a competitor in next year’s off road games.
The old man is going to have to do all the work believe it. God bless him.
I would not have been surprised if he pulled out Jimmy Hoffa or The Ark.
Pretty sure that yellow one is a Datsun PL521. Funny painted mine a yellow back in the late 70's. Loved that truck (also my 510's and Roadsters)
thats gonna be dope...
I was hoping you would pick that truck! Beautiful choice 👌
All that stuff that guy has, is better steal than anything you can buy today. The quality of steal has changed a great deal.
Can you wait to see this truck done ✔️ it’s gonna look bad ass
5.9 Cummings or if you can find a 7.3 with a turbo would be great choice for the project good luck with your build and great video keep up the good work God bless from GA and stay safe

It doesn't matter what it was. Whatever you create is going to be great. 😊

Five/quarter for the win, we still had them when I was in the Army. I'm definately gonna follow this build!
Awesome glad mara feeling better can't wait to see the new build
Like your selection. Now the project begins!
Good choice 👍 nice old iron to start with! I'll have to follow the building of the new/old unit!!
A built big block would be prefect in there . A mother thumper cam, headers, Holley sniper FI.👌 something that would make trail mater jealous 👍
Turbo diesel and roll coal on some recoveries 😂
Congratulations and enjoy building your new tow truck. And I wish you a speedy recovery with your back
The engine parts from the back of the truck are from an International V8. Most likely 304,345 or 392
Eric, it is going to be very entertaining to watch as you turn that dirty sow's ear into a silk purse ... uh... a slick recovery truck.
Whoo! I can't wait to see what you come up with for a drivetrain and powerplant!
How is the wife's back doing. I'm wishing for a full no pain recovery with full abilities for her⚕️🧑⚕️
Cool 😎, glad your wife found a nice truck to be made into a tow truck & glad that you're going to make it into one 😊

There is a gent in havasu. His tow truck in the chalange set the benchmark on torque.
The new lift, jack, and jack stands are gonna be handy for that project. Can't wait to see it get started!
Very cool project. Looking forward to watching it come to fruition.
I've actually got a set of the axles out from under a M715 sitting beside my garage that I was gonna use under my old mud truck project that I'm trying to get rid of, nice project.
I'm thinking you should definitely go with a nasty ol big block or a little ol Cummins
A good starting point
Can't wait to see the process and final build.
Thanks for the video you got the grab bag with that truck Eric 👍❤️❤️. Take care of yourself and family and be Blessed ❤️.
Man… that thing is nice.. cannot wait to see the finished product
This looks like it’s going to be a cool build
Very cool project! So awesome. It’s crazy to think ive been watching your videos since before baby seat cover was born! And she’s 13?! Wow
Awesome choice I love those old bone yards trips.
I'm so happy you guys picked the jeep truck, it's such a cool machine.
So Wise , Thank You , A fine project with a lot of Interesting Possibilities
