      Hi David Meissner - Apologies for the late response. Thank you for your comment. And yes, a trip log will work in lieu of a logbook my friend. If there is anything further we can do, drop us a note. Always happy to help. All the best, Cheers Rick

    Always learn something from your vids Rick! Had no idea "air miles" were longer than "statute miles"... Are "nautical miles" the same as air, or is it like English weights, where only the base increment matches in divergent scales?

      @smartdrivetest  5 лет назад

      Hi ludditeneanderthal - Thank you for your comment and query. A nautical and air mile are the same - they are one minute of latitude or 6076' ft. If there is anything further we can do, drop us a note. Always happy to help. All the best, Cheers Rick

    What if you get audited by DOT and you went 250 miles from the address of operation in the past?

    I would like to see how to enter the new numbers after taking a 34 hour reset, I understand you get a new 70 hours in eight days but where do you enter it in the recap section?

      Hi Walter Reynolds - Apologies for the late response. Thank you for your comment and query. You simply put in your hour for the days you took time off, and then restart your work cycle at "0". Let's say I live in California and I go to Nevada is the first time getting out from the 100 miles radius I just do the delivery and come back to California the same day will I have to keep using the log book?

    • @smartdrivetest
      @smartdrivetest  3 года назад

      No - you can use your trip sheets and work sheets which you get paid with. If the company gets audited, that's what they'll be looking for. For the one day though, you'll need a log sheet. For the 7 days previous, just put Local Work and write the date range and everything on one sheet. Cheers Rick

    Ok if I'm a short haul driver .What exactly am I supposed to keep in my truck?

    • @smartdrivetest
      @smartdrivetest  5 лет назад

      Hi Scott Hulsey - Apologies for the late response. Thank you for your query. Are you running 100miles beyond your home terminal? If you are, you will be required to have a logbook and supporting documentation. If you are not required to keep a logbook, you'll have bills of lading, trips sheets, and maybe a time sheet in the truck. See this video for supporting documentation: ruclips.net/video/P6xKGi04xmI/видео.html&list=PL0x-bChcUvwF1pJrynUqRj2jGjQVeMweH&index=7 If there is anything further we can do, drop us a note. Hi, what if you had a criminal record , are trucking companies going to hire you and give second chance???

    • @smartdrivetest
      @smartdrivetest  7 лет назад +1

      Hi ryan meana - thank you for your comment and query. If you have criminal record you have 2 options: 1) get a pardon; 2) work only within Canada. Lots of trucking companies will give you a job, but you just won't make as much money as a commercial driver staying within Canada. And just know that with a criminal record, you're going to have to work harder to get that job; but there are jobs available - just know that you going to have to be stubborn and talk to a lot of people. If there is anything further we can do, drop us a note. All the best, Cheers Rick

      Hi Hector Ortega - Thank you for your comment. Are you asking if you are required to keep a logbook, or are you asking how you run a team logbook? Are you in Canada or the United States? All the best, Cheers Rick

    HOS has never kept me from doing what needs done I stop take naps sleep how ever long I want whenever I want

    • @smartdrivetest
      @smartdrivetest  6 лет назад

      Hi Andrew Slabaugh - Thank you for your comment. That statement is true; however, you need to be in compliance so you don't get a fine - nothing worse than working the day for free because you got a fine. If there is anything further we can do, drop us a note. Always happy to help. All the best, Cheers Rick

    • @deerepower337
      @deerepower337 6 лет назад

      Smart Drive Test Your right in being compliant and avoiding fines. but the issue in being compliant is not safety and what the Fmcsa pushes is safety in order to be safe and compliant is completely redo HOS for example get rid of the 14hr rule and make it a 24hr rule which would allow a driver to choose when they want to rest or drive as long as they don't exceed 11 hours of driving or 14 hrs on duty in a 24hr period

    • @davidmeissner5010
      @davidmeissner5010 5 лет назад

      HOS may not stop you from resting, but it can prevent you from driving after you've rested, which does result in drivers reluctantly not resting in order to fulfill their 11 hours of driving. This if course is not safe.
      The 14 hour rule should be abolished and drivers should be allowed to split/combine their off duty time like they used to and rest when they can or need to without being penalized for it.
