Competent female truck drivers quickly earn their co-workers respect, and (from what I've witnessed) are treated very well by the men. Sort of a work sister. I have so much respect for the truck drivers. They're driving that huge beast and they do so with such care and restraint. They're so critical to our society, yet get so little respect. I can also imagine the psychological struggles of long haul trucking and time away from family. If a woman can do it and thrive, God bless her. She's got my respect.

    The trucking industry held me for 4 months. I figured out quick that it's not worth working in an industry in need of such massive reform.
    "Debt peonage" couldn't be more accurate. "Indentured servitude" would be a good term for it as well. You would not believe how many of these companies try to get brand new drivers to lease trucks just to be indebted to the company. It's a predatory system that robs the workers of their livelihoods. Many of these people have little to no education and don't see it coming until they're underwater and out of options and that’s why I had to make research about governmental grants and hired a licensed professional grant writer who helped me in securing a grant and I could start up a business for myself.

    • @johnhopper1961
      @johnhopper1961 Год назад +4

      People/companies at the top more interested in lining their pockets without concern for the companies that deliver the product. It is not capitalistism but " cronyism " brought to us by socialism. All the drivers are independent business contractors and could use guidance on operating a business, what we don't need is unions. Thuggery didn't work previously and as a result unions declined to just government employees.

    • @johnhopper1961

      Speaking of governmental grants can you enlighten me more on it. I arrived applying for a few online but all to no avail, at first thought it was my credit but it wasn’t because I knew I had a good credit, probably because I’m not familiar with the application process.

      Yep, I'm getting out. I'm a retired Firefighter/Paramedic and went into trucking to supplement my meager pension. work 60-70 hours a week, but only get paid when my wheels are turning. Waiting to be unloaded, loaded, traffic, getting fuel, breakdowns, no pay. So my pay average is approximately $16 an hour for driving a near 80,000 (most of the time) vehicle in the dark and through all weather.
      I've told my firefighter buddies something they found hard to believe, that truck driving is WAY more dangerous. Hard to believe, but it's true. So I now have my full year of tractor/trailer experience and 120,000 safe miles, which would enable me to go look for more money, but the money is just not there. I'm tired of working 60-70 hours a week.
      So I'm going to work as a Paramedic at a local hospital which pays hourly and OVERTIME after 40 hours and I'll be off the road before I get killed. if you asked someone if they'd like a job where you work 70 hours a week, but only get paid for about 40, oh, and that it's very dangerous and you'd be around rude and incompetent people all day (drivers on the road) no one would want the job.

And I been in my own company truck since September that same year. I'm otr currently but I'm planning on doing local work in Texas soon. It's the first job I've had that I don't hate. For once I enjoy what I do. It fits my personality perfectly and it's satisfying being able to back the truck and trailer successfully. I don't see myself retiring from anything else.

    Nice video. Keep it up.Trucking is a great occupation which yields a lot of money but not everyone is lucky speaking from the other side if you understand, I was into trucking about 6 years ago and as at then I worked for FedEx before I went on driving trucks for companies which I was taken advantage of until I became so fed up and made up my mind of being an entrepreneur of my own which I made proper research on and had to hire and highly skilled and licensed grant writer and editor to help me through my application on government grants and I was awarded $500k as a startup capital and today I can proudly bold of owning my own truck company in which I make over 37k a month as my profit and now I'm in the process of starting up a daycare business for my wife and a salon for my sister. So therefore determination is a key to good living and erasing the mentality of being and underdog too helps a lot, knowing your worth also, I know not everyone is determined to be successful in life but my advice is for you to not be among the Unsuccessful ones.

    Let me just reiterate the fact for new people that see this video, Clarissa is a owner operator she owns the truck and trailer or rents/leases the trailer, she is responsible for every expense report she does on that truck and trailer while in her possession. This is the top of the food chain of what the trucking industry can do for you but you need to work for it. I have no doubt that Clarissa made sacrifices to her personal life by this decision and she is now in a more comfortable position. Being an owner operator is not for everyone. Like any field, trade, job, theres tips and tricks to be had with it. Location is everything when it comes to trucking in regards to home time and types of loads. Chicago for example is a great place for products going in and out of. New York is another. Please Please don't sign on to go trucking school thinking you're going to make $150k as a new driver in your first year. There are ways to make above average pay your first year but it is a grind and half to make top tier money. I've personally seen companies get rail roaded because some person came in and thought they were going to make $75k their first year or 6 figures because of videos they saw on the internet to create a false perspective and expectations as a new driver. Clarissa is a prime example of hard work and dedication thank you for that Clarissa.

    I love it that you are the primary bread winner and you're husband is at home with the kids. It's an amazing lifestyle that brings you and your family so much to look forward to. Bless him and you for being the hard working family that you are and bless you for loving what you do so much. I was reading many comment on here from female truck drivers that you encouraged. That in itself is so wonderful. Women are great drivers and there is no reason why a woman cannot drive a big rig. May your life be filled with good fortune and many blessings.

    Wow..I applaud you sister! Definitely other trucking companies loss for not hiring you! You're a perfect role model for others and a role model/promoter for your current employer!

    I’ve been driving a truck for 7 years now. 6 of those years has been local and home every night but I fully endorse this. We need more otr drivers and as California has demonstrated, restriction on interstate commerce spells doom for the economy. People love to hate truckers but we literally make the economy happen

    This woman just made my day. Fantastic episode and much respect to her and all truckers out there, they deal with a lot.

    People project their own insecurity onto others. The people that have a problem with Mrs. Rankin working are upset they don't have anyone supporting them.

    Almost every industry lacks women, but trucking is particularly notorious for it. Good to see you on the road.
