As a diesel mechanic, it's refreshing getting drivers coming into the shop with positive attitudes. any freightliner from 2012 to 2019 is a good truck to drive. parts are easy to come by for the most part, oil changes and other services are easy to do as well. By far a really good truck, especially with the DD15 engine.
Best of luck to her and hope for continued success in the field! Definitely a tough career, you can tell how motivated and supported she is by her family.
The trucking industry held me for 4 months. I figured out quick that it's not worth working in an industry in need of such massive reform. "Debt peonage" couldn't be more accurate. "Indentured servitude" would be a good term for it as well. You would not believe how many of these companies try to get brand new drivers to lease trucks just to be indebted to the company. It's a predatory system that robs the workers of their livelihoods. Many of these people have little to no education and don't see it coming until they're underwater and out of options and that’s why I had to make research about governmental grants and hired a licensed professional grant writer who helped me in securing a grant and I could start up a business for myself.
People/companies at the top more interested in lining their pockets without concern for the companies that deliver the product. It is not capitalistism but " cronyism " brought to us by socialism. All the drivers are independent business contractors and could use guidance on operating a business, what we don't need is unions. Thuggery didn't work previously and as a result unions declined to just government employees.
Speaking of governmental grants can you enlighten me more on it. I arrived applying for a few online but all to no avail, at first thought it was my credit but it wasn’t because I knew I had a good credit, probably because I’m not familiar with the application process.
Yep, I'm getting out. I'm a retired Firefighter/Paramedic and went into trucking to supplement my meager pension. work 60-70 hours a week, but only get paid when my wheels are turning. Waiting to be unloaded, loaded, traffic, getting fuel, breakdowns, no pay. So my pay average is approximately $16 an hour for driving a near 80,000 (most of the time) vehicle in the dark and through all weather. I've told my firefighter buddies something they found hard to believe, that truck driving is WAY more dangerous. Hard to believe, but it's true. So I now have my full year of tractor/trailer experience and 120,000 safe miles, which would enable me to go look for more money, but the money is just not there. I'm tired of working 60-70 hours a week. So I'm going to work as a Paramedic at a local hospital which pays hourly and OVERTIME after 40 hours and I'll be off the road before I get killed. if you asked someone if they'd like a job where you work 70 hours a week, but only get paid for about 40, oh, and that it's very dangerous and you'd be around rude and incompetent people all day (drivers on the road) no one would want the job.
I made some research on governmental grants though and I have been asked to hire a licensed grant specialist but I haven’t found any but seeing this I would want to implore you if you can recommend me to the specialist that helped you with yours.
Proud of you sis 👏🏾! I don't do TikTok but I wish you the best on your journey. Continue to br safe and there is nothing wrong with your husband staying at home and mentoring his two sons! God bless! 🤎
So happy to see her on here. I first started following her on Tik Tok and she is such a positive person. I love her saying “I maybe a broken crayon but I still can color”.
Some people here are saying she works too hard and doesn't make enough money. But she's self-employed -- that makes all the difference. When you work for yourself, you put in a lot of extra time, but you love every second of it. It's hard to put into words how empowering it is to be your own boss, and how many rewards come with it. It changes everything. She's living her best life in what is still the land of opportunity. God bless this lovely woman and her family.
She only make 144k because she is not running coast to coast, looks like she mainly runs local. If she was running coast to coast, she would gross over 220k
She may be an independent contractor but she leases that truck from a company that has a lot of say so on what she can and can not do. For 70k a year you are way better off driving for a company and not deal with any breakdown headaches. High fuel cost health insurance cost etc
@@rzt430 not much good in this leasing a truck. Why not go and buy one with your own credit and you really have the freedom and can do what you want with the truck at that point

Nice video. Keep it up.Trucking is a great occupation which yields a lot of money but not everyone is lucky speaking from the other side if you understand, I was into trucking about 6 years ago and as at then I worked for FedEx before I went on driving trucks for companies which I was taken advantage of until I became so fed up and made up my mind of being an entrepreneur of my own which I made proper research on and had to hire and highly skilled and licensed grant writer and editor to help me through my application on government grants and I was awarded $500k as a startup capital and today I can proudly bold of owning my own truck company in which I make over 37k a month as my profit and now I'm in the process of starting up a daycare business for my wife and a salon for my sister. So therefore determination is a key to good living and erasing the mentality of being and underdog too helps a lot, knowing your worth also, I know not everyone is determined to be successful in life but my advice is for you to not be among the Unsuccessful ones.
You mentioned considering other ventures like a daycare business and a salon. How do you approach diversifying your business interests while ensuring success in each endeavour? Any lessons learned or advice for others looking to expand into different industries?.
Thank you for sharing your incredible story, Bobby! It's inspiring to hear how you transformed your trucking career into owning your own successful truck company. I've been driving trucks for 7 years and can truly appreciate the challenges and opportunities that come with it. Your advice on taking control of your own destiny and becoming an entrepreneur resonates deeply with me. It's empowering to see how determination and hard work can lead to remarkable outcomes. I admire your dedication to research and seeking government grants as a startup capital. It's a great reminder that exploring different avenues for funding can make all the difference in starting a successful business. Your success not only in the trucking industry but also in branching out to other ventures like a daycare business and salon is truly remarkable. It's a testament to your entrepreneurial spirit and the endless possibilities that come with it. Your advice to not settle for being an underdog and to know one's worth is invaluable. Thank you for sharing your wisdom and encouraging others to strive for success. Your journey is a source of inspiration and motivation. Wishing you continued success and fulfilment in all your future endeavours!
@@Lauraln-w1 I would advise someone who wants to start their own trucking company to first do thorough research on the industry. Understand the market demand, competition, and regulations. It's important to have a clear business plan and financial strategy in place. Also, consider hiring skilled professionals, like grant writers and editors, to assist with government grant applications or other funding opportunities. Determination and knowing your worth are key factors for success. Don't be afraid to take risks and be your own boss. It's a challenging but rewarding journey
@@aaronbrooks745 Diversifying into other ventures requires careful research and planning. I ensure that each business venture aligns with market demand and has a viable growth potential. It's important to delegate responsibilities effectively and hire competent managers to oversee day-to-day operations. Developing a strong support network, seeking advice from industry experts, and staying agile in adapting to the unique challenges of each industry are also critical factors for success.

I'm a female solo driver... We're not that rare. We're here every day. She's 1099. She doesn't get any benefits, no workman's comp of she's injured, nothing. This is completely jaded. We need more women but please don't put out this misleading info. She makes $70k with zero benefits. None. If she wants medical or any benefits she has to pay for them from her $70k left. She makes most of her money from social media. Not trucking. Be honest.
I LOVED THIS!!!!! She is so inspirational, a breath of fresh air, and a realistic picture of those trying to chase their dreams. Not the American dream. Their dream. And I hope her social media continues to rise so she can put it into her business ventures.
Really enjoyed watching this- was particularly moved to see how Clarissa and her husband partner to make their family life work- wishing her much success!
It’s takes a trucker to understand a trucker. What we do is so important, and what she says is true. We are under appreciated. During 2020, I ran the country and the trailer WAS my cape. I’ll never forget that year, everyone was locked up in their house and me and my fellow brothers and sisters were gunning it down the interstates. This isn’t for everyone, but a true trucker will always fight to keep their seat in the game and wheels moving. This isn’t the light hearted.
I love your attitude, I'm a female truck driver as well and I feel the same as you'll. I love how people are so excited to see me driving a 18 wheeler. Stay safe out the hun and keep up the amazing videos
If I could find a company that would allow me to bring on a 13 yr old and an 11 yr old, I'd be on the road for a while. I am a truck driver and would love to go back but being a single mom makes it so hard. She is brilliant and so positive
You’d have to shop around. When I went to school, different companies came in told us there policies. I believe Werner allowed you to bring family on road with you.
I love her point of view of her job. She is truly passionate about her job and I love her upbeat attitude about everything that comes as an attachment to the job.
Great outlook and glad she loves it. She said she made $50k at her previous job. Now she works 365/24/7 and after expenses, she makes $24k more. Doesn't seem worth it to me, but as long as she's happy
That's the whole reason I haven't jumped into o/o. My current job I make more than that as a company driver and I'm home every day. It's long hours but it's worth it. Crude oil for those interested.
You are just what I needed. About to get into trucking. I'm a special needs school bus driver. About to get class A. I love your energy and you have a beautiful family. Keep giving us the T honey! Blessings
Truck drivers are so crucial to keep our Walmarts and grocery stores stocked. Sadly it is a very lonely life, being away from their partner for extended periods of time.
All you do is go to the nearest RR yard and pick-up your load, it's not like Walmart is driving that sht across the country.. GOH, One Intermodal train carries over 280 loads (trucks off the road)... Man please..
I love it that you are the primary bread winner and you're husband is at home with the kids. It's an amazing lifestyle that brings you and your family so much to look forward to. Bless him and you for being the hard working family that you are and bless you for loving what you do so much. I was reading many comment on here from female truck drivers that you encouraged. That in itself is so wonderful. Women are great drivers and there is no reason why a woman cannot drive a big rig. May your life be filled with good fortune and many blessings.
2:25 I know she mentioned that she loves what she does, but she also said it's a job where you're working 7 days a week, 365 days a year. For a $73k/year annual income (before taxes), I don't think it's worth the sacrifice of barely being home with your family, and having no days off. Would be easier to just get a $70k/year job with weekends off.

@@Georgiacrystal01Good luck to you!
Proud of you sis 👏🏾! I don't do TikTok but I wish you the best on your journey. Continue to br safe and there is nothing wrong with your husband staying at home and mentoring his two sons! God bless! 🤎
Thank you so much ❤❤❤❤ #itstruckerslifebaby #clarissarankin
So happy to see her on here. I first started following her on Tik Tok and she is such a positive person. I love her saying “I maybe a broken crayon but I still can color”.
So much respect for you and everyone in that industry. You’re a wonderful representative.
She makes me have a new level of respect for truck drivers. Kudos to her doing what she enjoys and supporting her family
Thank you ❤❤❤
I love this story. I hope her business and attitude continue to go up and up.
Awesome seeing you doing this business as an owner operator, keep soaring higher Clarissa 👍 I wish you all the best 🙏
High fuel cost health insurance cost etc
you only see the good sides of this. you don't know how stressful it is.
@@rzt430 not much good in this leasing a truck. Why not go and buy one with your own credit and you really have the freedom and can do what you want with the truck at that point
@@tyount1984 i agree with you. i was replying to the original commenter on top. this can't be sustainable without going through so much headaches
Props to her. Brave woman not afraid to take on a non traditional role. Women like this inspire me. Live brave, bold and confident. Wishing you alot a success my dear. Love her little family ❤️
That’s why the black family is in chaos because the women want to be so non traditional

What advice would you give to someone who wants to start their own trucking company and be successful in the industry?
Love her energy! If you love what you do, everyday is great day. & she's makes it look good. 💅🏾✨

This job isn't for everyone, long drives on dark highways, not sleeping in own bed at night. Dealing with traffic and stupid people. Glad there are people like her out there that is willing to put up will all of it. Definitely need truckers!!!
I go through all of what you mentioned, drive at night pulling doubles
@@mims924You are definitely appreciated
I love that, owning a house is overrated especially if you’re single with no kids. Nothing wrong with having a stable truck to live in.
What a GREAT interview. Clarissa Rankin has a positive outloook on the trucker life. This is not easy!
Her work ethic is amazing. I think Truckers should start doing zoom meetings just to encourage eachother. Ms. Rankin is def an inspiration to me as a woman and a POC.
Her energy is infectous. May God bless and keep you and your family.
This is amazing and lifted my spirits today. We need to hear more about unconventional jobs that women are taking on that used to just be an industry for men. Great attitude and I appreciate the work that you do. You have support here in South Carolina!

Aww!! I LOVE IT!!! And THANK YOU CNBC Make It for finally diversified the content. This is great seeing other industries / other humans doing really good in their chosen professions.👍🏼
🎉this is honestly one of the best videos I ever watched in internet..she is making videos and driving the truck all at same time while having two kids..oh my God..bless this woman and God bless all the truckers out there❤
Okay I LOVED this! Beautiful attitude, beautiful family, and beautiful woman! She will be very successful in life.
Be honest.
Excellent story!!! Thank y’all so much for covering this!!! 🙌🏾🙌🏾
I LOVED THIS!!!!! She is so inspirational, a breath of fresh air, and a realistic picture of those trying to chase their dreams. Not the American dream. Their dream. And I hope her social media continues to rise so she can put it into her business ventures.
❤❤❤❤
Three years ago thanks to Clarissa I got on that DMV Genie and got that Class A. One of the best moves made in my life.
Oh wow ❤❤❤ congratulations. Itstruckerslifebaby

She took her life in her hands, what a wonderful woman
No she didn't lol the husband helps a lot it's 50/50 cause without him she can't work leaving the kids home
I love her energy. People could learn from this and they should...
What an inspiring woman! Her passion for trucking is contagious.

One of the best trucking videos I’ve ever watched. Makes me wanna go back OTR lol. Keep doing your thang sister. Get that number up from 8%
Wow thank you that mean alot To me

This is amazing! I love her! She's an inspiration.
God bless her and her family. Trucking life is not easy but we need this type personality on the road and in this world. Tfs
Hogan allows children to ride as well
Love heading her complain how everyone sucks at driving its honestly a pure joy
wishing her luck in the business
I love her point of view of her job. She is truly passionate about her job and I love her upbeat attitude about everything that comes as an attachment to the job.
Great outlook and glad she loves it. She said she made $50k at her previous job. Now she works 365/24/7 and after expenses, she makes $24k more. Doesn't seem worth it to me, but as long as she's happy
Im actually curious to know the take home after taxes
@@AfroKingExplorer pretty much the same as she was making as a company driver lol
That's the whole reason I haven't jumped into o/o. My current job I make more than that as a company driver and I'm home every day. It's long hours but it's worth it. Crude oil for those interested.
@@AfroKingExplorer $4500 around there
Yeah I was trying to understand the numbers lol….but she’s also supplementing her income with social media?
You are just what I needed. About to get into trucking. I'm a special needs school bus driver. About to get class A. I love your energy and you have a beautiful family. Keep giving us the T honey! Blessings
Truck drivers are so crucial to keep our Walmarts and grocery stores stocked. Sadly it is a very lonely life, being away from their partner for extended periods of time.
All you do is go to the nearest RR yard and pick-up your load, it's not like Walmart is driving that sht across the country.. GOH, One Intermodal train carries over 280 loads (trucks off the road)... Man please..
I like how she thinks about the people getting the things she's delivering. 🙂
That’s how you know she’s excellent, she doesn’t just think about the money she thinks about the impact of what she’s doing. 😊
smart thinking, letting dad stay at home with their 2 sons. They are growing up with a father AND a mother equally.
Love this and what a different type of success story outside your typical white collar profession. More power to you sister! You are a superhero. (:
And thats with her being a truck owner. This video just goes to show how exploited truck drivers are in America.
