The defense really wanted to MUTE the voices of the victim's families,so that their statements wouldn't impact the jury's decision.

It had to be heartbreaking to hear the details of that horrible day & to hear the results of the autopsies & then have to deal with these defense attorneys treating them like they're being violent because they're expressing their feelings towards the monster that shot their child/children..

Yes - sadly, too many dumb people on RUclips who watch a 2 minute clip of a trial that took weeks feel qualified to judge this judge's behavior based on those two minutes. Really speaks to the level of stupidity of this country. Had they WATCHED the entire trial - like I did - they'd know this judge dealt with the defense teams unwanted and unethical outbursts for WEEKS - refusing to listen to her, interrupting, blurting out stuff, talking down to her - an objection would be over-ruled and they'd refuse to drop it. How many times should she need to tell them to sit downs and shut up? Clearly 10 or 15 wasn't enough.
This judge did nothing wrong - the defense team abused her, and she was simply trying to NOT turn the courtroom into a circus. Guarantee this is political - or the SC feels she's conservative or to tough on murderers and criminals, so they want her gone.
I am appalled and disgusted by the Defense Attorneys lack of Humanity, Professionalism and Selfish lack of regard for the families. The Judge was a true advocate and those defense attorneys should have received contempt charges. Fire Them!

She is very respected. She is a 1,000 times better and well respected in my book, than district judge Aileen Cannon who is easily intimidated.
Why did she not have these lawyers removed from the court permanently? They’ve violated about every single court decorum and yet, they’re still there, getting away with it all. This is going to set a precedent for lawyers being able to do whatever they want without consequences.
She didn’t because then there would be grounds for a mistrial. I’m sure there were a hundred and one times she wanted to hold them in contempt but she knew it could potentially harm the case. Which in all honesty, given that he didn’t get the death penalty I wouldn’t mind if he had to be re-tried 🤷♂️

After hearing the victims impact statements I understand. If the judge had made rulings against the defense team the defense team would have wiggled their way into a mistrial.

I watched the entire trial - the defense attorneys should be disbarred - they turned the court room into a 3 ring circus...after weeks of their CONSTANT interruptions, shouting out garbage, refusing to sit down - the judge UNDERSTANDABLY lost her patience with them. She told the fat guy to sit down 10 times - and he continued blathering on and on. The goal of the defense was to cause MAJOR problems in the courtroom, and they did.

If you don’t agree with what the judge is saying, then you take it to the next level going the legal route. You just don’t blatantly sit up in court and disrespect the judge! There’s a process to follow if you disagree with the judge and it’s a process that you must respect! That goes for both sides!

This is every argument I've ever had with my 13 year old students. How many time should you be asked to sit down to actually do what the higher authority in the rooms tells you? And asking for a recess at the end ... I could put my worst behaved student up there and it would sound the same.

She’s been removed from the case for hugging the prosecution team. Unbelievably naive for a judge to let her emotions influence a case
This video and the comment section should be a case study in social studies of how people express opinions without having proper background. Today a State Panel determined that the judge should be publicly reprimanded for her behavior, she did not follow court decorum and judicial procedures. She also resigned. 99% of people commenting here saw a 5 minute clip and drew conclusions based on emotions and not facts.

Losers watch this clip and type something like "I hate that judge!" and "she should be ashamed!"... when IN FACT, if you watched the ENTIRE case like I did, you'd realize the defense team was the problem - they were CONSTANTLY screaming stuff, interrupting, objection over-ruled and they refused to sit down and would keep blathering on despite the judge ruling. It is actually very sad that non of the defense have any respect for this judge and I believe are running all over her because she’s a younger female. Screw your head on and try to think clearly and listen to what was actually said. Defender Weekes was simply objecting to the children of defense attorneys being referenced. He wants to tone that down. And Weekes noted that the prosecution attorneys did not have to endure *their children* being referenced. That's all he said. Defender Weekes said absolutely nothing about the children that were killed.

I don’t think a judge or defense counsel should be behaving like this. The judge IMO should’ve scolded them in chambers or in writing. You have to at least show a sense of impartiality and show that you can compose yourself when needed. Her anger should’ve been spent mostly on NC.

On July 28, 2023 the Florida Supreme Court issued an a public reprimand to her for her poor judicial demeanor. They specifically cited this incident among several others. The FL Supreme Court expects better.
