- Here I have a Sony UBP-X800 Blu-ray DVD that is not reading the CD's this can be fixed by.
1. Checking that your HDMI cable is ok
2. Checking that your DVD is not scratched
3. Opening the DVD player up and cleaning the laser head.
Hope this helps, see you in the next video!

Thanks a lot. With the help of your video, I found a way to open the players inside and found the lens. That was a little tricky. But I had nothing to loose. Now my man is buying isopropanol and I hope I can fix it! 🙂
Mine plays dvds perfectly but it won't read blu rays? It just started doing this about a week ago
Same problem here. It reads DVDs but won't read Blu-ray discs or UHD Blu-ray discs. I am guessing that it will play CDs, but I don't care about that. I want it to play HD and UHD formats.
I purchased a used LG blue ray and when I put a disc in it just said check disk and then I did what you instructed and it works !!!!
I bought several Blu-ray discs from same source and some play and some do not. Is there a way to check on the computer to see if there's data on the disc? Or maybe I should try to play on a recently bought computer to see if it plays there
Hi there I have the same model and it’s only a couple months old, but it will only play dvds and not blue rey, do you have any suggestions?
Did u fix it??? Mines doing this now
Nice Video! Clever Fix! I have no doubt that this would work on most DVD / Blu Ray / CD Players. Some combination of and / or variation of Clean Disc - Check / Replace HDMI Cable / System Reset seems to work in most cases.
My late 90's / early 2000 Sony Discman and Philips portable CD players mostly responded to the 'clean the laser' fix.
In my case: Sony Blu Ray Player (rack mounted), I did the 'Thirty Second Fix':
(more like 3 Mins...)
(You need to have either a can of compressed air, or portable mini-hand-blower, for this to work. I suspect that a hand vacuum with a (CLEAN) blower port would work as well)
1 Eject the current disc inside the player and leave DVD Tray OPEN
2 Unplug power and HDMI Cable
3 Take unit outside or into your garage
4 Make sure that the unit is secure (won't drop or fall)
5 Look on the underside, in my case (Sony 4K UHD Upscale) there was a series of 4-5 vents (presumably for air-flow or cooling.) Locate those vents and...
6 Alternate compressed / FORCED air through that series of vents, and occasionally through the OPEN DVD tray.
7 Do that for approx 30-45 secs.
8 Re-connect your device (HDMI & Power) to TV and test.
REASONING: CLEAR OUT POSSIBLE / PROBABLE DUST CONTAMINATION INSIDE UNIT
May be all that you need to do 👍 : - ]
Excellent info!
Thanks much.
Mine is All Region modified....for $350.
Definitely want to fix it.
I have a Sony BDP-S1700 that is several years old. I placed a disc onto the tray and because I thought it was not completely in the round compartment, I firmly pressed the disc and tray down. When I tried to play the disc, I got "Unable to play this disc". The BDP-S1700 won't play any other discs, so I think maybe because I pressed the disc and tray down, this caused the problem. Any suggestions on how to fix the problem?
Mines only plays dvd now but spits out blu-ray..is it a dirty lens or something else ?
I have the same problem.
I have this same model, and it has the same problem. It has already been cleaned both superficially and much more thoroughly, but the problem persists. It does not read any disk, nor does it access any web application.
I'm here for advice on a problem okay so I got this complete collection of the original animaniacs series on DVD and I put in the disc and about 5 seconds into the first episode My Blu-ray player all of a sudden froze and would not respond to remote commands. I then tried to eject the disc or turn off the player and turn it back on I managed to turn the Blu-ray player back on but there was just a black screen. So then I turned off the surge protector waited 2 minutes and turned it back on and finally got the player to eject the disc. Was it the disc or the player or the HDMI cable because I just used a HDMI cable from my PS4? Thanks any advice would be appreciated.
It has never done this before so I don't know if it's the player or the HDMI cable I used but the disc did not seem to be scratched when I checked. There was this blue smudge but that was part of the artwork I thought and there were some small scratches on the artwork side of the disc but not the back that I know of.
What do you recommend using to clean a DVD with ? Our rental dealer used a liquid and wiped every disc before renting , but would not divulge what he was using on the rag .
Great video, bought a x800m2 from the pawn shop for $140, disc drive didn’t play disc. Long story short, had bought a x800 month’s before for $25 at the pawn shop also, no issues. Ending up switching the disc drives on units, and returned the x800 and got my $140 back lol😅
Dvd works fine but my player won’t recognise playable good discs . Thev play in my other player
My x800 wont open up, that is, it doesnt light, its completely dead. what should i do? try disassemble it and maybe manage to repair it by myself?
Mine stopped reading Blu-ray’s too, just today. …I’m so annoyed right now…jeez 😞
My X800MKII wont read most of the MP4 files. Sometime it reads fine but 9 of 10 times not
Back in the day, there use to be a cd disk that you pop in and its suppose to clean for you instead of having to open the player itself, im wondering if those would work. Has anyone tried it?
I'm having to replace my player once a year. I've tried cleaning them and all. Always fail at 1 year.
Quanti film ti vedi in un anno?
Mines showing (?) And keeps saying can't read disc and the movies are new ... Went from working good lastnight to no longer reading the disc... And I haven't had this one that long either.

Mine will not play DVD but it will play Bluray. When you turn it on it shows everything on the TV but when you use the DVD it won't play but it will play a Bluray. Update is good just can't play DVD. Anyone know the fix to this?

@@NewsonsElectronics The two blue pots on the ROM? So how much adjustment are we talking about, if you can be a little more elaborate. Thank you in advance. Or maybe direct me to a site in which they show all of this.

This model has problems. Sony screwed up this one.

How many times can you say uwt? LOL Get uwt of here!
Mine don’t want updates and won’t open any streaming service but open dvd tray and read but no play
Same here. I’m looking for solutions now, unless you’ve found one already.
If so, please tell me about it.
Okilly dokilly. This is my second response to you in case they show up out of order.
I was able to get my player working by going to settings and and doing a factory reset. Make sure you go to the bottom of the list and select “all” for reset.
During re-initialization DO NOT connect to the internet. Just scroll up to “exit” when it finds network connections that it wants to access.
Also, don’t allow the fast start-up mode. It’s already set at “on”, so toggle to “off” and hit enter.
When you’re back to that screen that can’t do anything, you should now be able to use the enter button on the disk play icon.
Whew! That was a pain in the but to figure out.
Respond to me if it doesn’t work and I’ll try clear up my descriptions.
@@harpodjangorose9696 Thanks for taking the time to post this answer. Was having the exact same issue, and this worked for me!
@@ky2auburn - I live to serve. Glad you got it worked out.
