  • Found this on the ground at the recycle place. It doesn't play a thing.
    Will I get it working?

    The first Philips DVD Recorder I had (years back) allowed a code to be input via the remote (which had been published in a magazine) which unlocked the ability to skip all logos and promos of DVDs (as well as making it multi-region). Just inserting the disc, pressing one button and getting straight to the main DVD menu was something so useful (and unique after coming from the days of VHS tapes where it wasn't possible to skip these so easily - especially rental ones which sometimes had up to half an hour of promos, etc); I've not had a player or recorder with this ability since, sadly. I can't even remember which model it was now either.

    • @jimrobinson3875

      Another way to skip to menu was stop stop play worked on alot of DVD players I had.

    That's a great tip to try if my Sony Blu-Ray player stops reading discs (I hope I remember to mark my starting point). So far it's been flawless after 9 years of use.

    Additional Comment: Some players (not just Sony) have a special service menu which can be accessed to higher or lower the tray (or spindle) a little; thus allowing you to try to resolve an issue without the disassembly. It also allows the player to have age ranges set - via parental controls, and more. These are not applicable to every player, however, but I just thought I'd share this for those who didn't know. (The codes or methods to access these service menus can be found via Internet searches). Hope this helps someone down the line.👍

      My s550 has a svc menu but no mechanical options. It says LDTime for BDs as 532, DVDs 248, and audio 44. That seems low for 15yrs.

    I have the BDPS360 model player from new. I like the extra outputs you don't tend to see on newer compact players. In the UK it came bundled with several blu-ray discs as well, I think I bought it from Blockbuster before they closed down.

    I found an S300 on the kerb and got it playing CDs and the menus / intros of DVD and Blu-ray discs. However because i didnt have the remote (and for some reason Sony use a 5-digit code rather than the 4-digit ones that my trusty One for All universal remote spits out) i wasnt able to test it further. I didnt need another Blu-ray deck so i put it on a local free group. Wish people would leave the remotes when they put things on the kerb, as a lot of modern electronics are unusable without them.

    These older BluRay players were excellent in their day as most only had Hdmi sockets the better
    Sony ones had all the outputs you need.
    I have a BDPS550 and 760 both despite their age are better than the modern tiny ones.
    They will once setup correctly play discs that some more recent 4K players refuse to play.

    Another great video! Back in the early 2000s I had a Sony 300 disc DVD carousel changer that stopped playing DVDs. Its long gone now, but I have to wonder if it just needed an adjustment like this or there was some other fault?

    • @soluzaroi
      @soluzaroi 11 месяцев назад

      Per this channel I fixed my 300CD carousel machine with new belts because it barely rotated and under heavier load of cds it wouldnt move. My Laser Disc Player and walkmans however probably need these adjustments my best guess too!

    Here's something I just thought of - The start sequence of reading the disk - Doesn't the disk have to be spinning first in order to be read?? Like I thought after you close the tray - the unit should start the disk spin then read the disk . it just seems like there might be an issue in sequence of instruction that the player is not running properly ??

    • @12voltvids
      @12voltvids  11 месяцев назад +1

      Night shot isn't really infrared. It simply removes the infrared cut filter. The image sensor can then see the full spectrum from near infrared through to uv. Normally the ir cut filter is on to block ir spectrum. I have an ir pass filter. If I put that on then the only light that would pass is ir light. All visible would be blocked.

      Well the format wars was due to disagreements companies. Cd-r/rw, DVD-r/rw /ra.m and BDR/RE. Those were the official disk standards for recordable disks. The + camp and hddvd were attempts by other companies that didn't want to pay royalties for the license to use the official standard. Sony and philips developed cd, Sony/ panasonic dvd-r/rw/ram, Sony bluray. Philips/ toshiba dvd+ and hddvd.

      I have s cheap Sony bd too and Netflix still works on it. I fact that what I usually use it for. I have an older one too but the warning comes up that Netflix is ending on that one this month. I like the new one because when listening to music either off usb or a disk (it plays mp3 from cd, DVD and bd disc) it has random playback where the older one just played in order the tracks recorded. New one is so much better. Use it almost every day to listen to music.
