I wish the DIAD cradles worked on our trucks. I drive in Toledo. We have 125ish trucks in our fleet and 3/4 of the DIAD cradles don't charge or display map nav. When ever we bring it up to management we're told that thr replacement cradles are on back order. They've been on back order for a year now.....
I have always wondered what type of hand truck UPS uses? I imagine it has to work well for heavy packages as well as having the ability to hold multiple packages.
I always wondered this, Is there a software that you put the packages in and it routes them efficiently? Or does someone has to manually schedule the stops on the route?
They I would imagine something similar to Fedex. It’s a app that shows all the stops on a map and has pin drops of each stop. The software will plotted automatically to have a start/first stop to last stop/end day. And it alllows you to use built in navigation to guide you automatically to each stop. After each package is scanned and marked as delivered on the scanner the app will automatically remove that pin/stop off the map
We have a device call a DIAD that have stops/packages for the day program in it. Does the software do it efficiently? I would say 50/50, dispatch people can sometimes rearrange the stops to make it more efficient. Once I know the route, I just do it the way I feel is more efficient
We have what's called ORION and it's a program that lays out our trace for us after all the stops have been uploaded. Some times it's amazing, most times it's a dumpster fire and you're better off just memorizing your entire route and making up the trace as ya go.
@@elexustrades I live in Texas as well. My brother in law is a higher up for ups and has been trying to get me to come drive for him for years. I’m discouraged over the navigation portion. I’m not entirely sure how y’all get around with a gps. Could you make a video over that please.

was this your packet route? if you're finishing a 170 stop route by 4pm you are killing it! most new drivers can't finish that many stops by 4pm. it also depends on the route I don't know about other centers but our start time is 9am pcm then usually out the building by 915am

170 resi stops with no pickups? Piece of cake..... The hardest routes are balancing deliveries w/ pickups... never enough time in the day, especially when you leave at 930am and have to make service.
Oh yeah super easy, I get bumped off so often because of it 🤣 I don’t understand leaving at 9:30, I dislike it when that happens since my area 35 minutes away, I am not going to make 7 10:30 commits
Resi routes are the dream. Just got my first bid route after 2 years of driving. 120-170 stops outside of peak, 250-400 pieces and about 50ish miles. Oh and only 3 scheduled pick ups👌🏼
@@IsolatedEcho1 Yep, resi routes are the best.... And also you don’t have to worry about parking lots, loading docks etc. & the possibility of someone hitting your truck. Just release & go, no signatures unless it’s required. Yes, peak season sucks on resi routes, but management will get you help. Apartments suck because every stop is usually on the 2nd or 3rd floor lol 😂 , but I’d take apartments anyday vs. delivering to businesses & having to wait for signatures etc.
@@poker_18rs92 I’ve done resi routes the last couple peaks. 300ish stops with 500 piece days, but tight neighborhoods. Only real challenge was finding every package for each stop because the shelves were stuffed. Good paychecks to make up for it at least

Do the packages at ups have SID numbers like FedEx? And if so, how do you run your route(s)? In order of package number? Or out of order by what next stop is closest?
The extra pickups will always be the Corporate stick-it-to-you that disgusts me about the delivery industry. Pick up and delivery routes should be separate. Period. If not, then there should be a number-limit policy that is guaranteed for peace of mind of the driver. Even if he never gets close to the limit.
@@IsolatedEcho1 It's the exact OPPOSITE of optimization. It would be fine if they had engineered a system like that properly.. Bulkhead door open? I never heard of it not being okay for leaving the side doors of the package car open. I know in the video I left the bulkhead door open when I went to raise the back door open, but close it after I found the package, just did not show it in the video. Maybe because I am not facing the bulkhead door when closing it may seem that I am leaving it open when exiting with the package. But yeah 3 points of contact is something I need to work on.

I work for USPS. theres a regular UPS driver that delivers pallets to our station on the daily. He always talks about how the work at UPS is less grueling in comparison to working at USPS. And that the pay is much better….I’m low key starting to consider switching to UPS. 👀
Now I’ve only worked at ups but I assumed usps would be easier physically considering you deliver 95% mail. Where as ups delivers boxes that go up to 130lbs.
I just resigned from USPS and now waiting for my date for UPS road test
@@isaacmarin9353 that percentage is definitely off lol. A ton of packages go out each day. At least at my station. But I guess it could be less grueling for some depending on your route, seniority, etc. it’s all perspective! But the pay does look better at ups.
@@snkr_2378 nice! any updates on your road test?
@@lmnopoli never heard anything back and got sick and tired of calling everyday just for them to tell me no availability so I just got in at FedEx Express
Lol unfortunately barely any of ours work either they won’t fix them since we are getting the new ones soon
no hand trucks for the bigger / heavier packages? love the content. thanks.
would have gotten written up for parking on wrong side of street in my day, and also, that was a sweet load compared to what I was used to
I have always wondered what type of hand truck UPS uses?
@@elexustrades they have specific employees at my center that plan routes. Not sure about others.

If you REALLY want to drive move to an area that needs drivers.
Salt lake city utah.

Great job but don’t forget to fold in the mirrors at each stop, remember on roads will pull up randomly.

im a canada post carrier, but we don't have door to door mail anymore so we do all our delivery to community mailboxes
Run that aisle of irregs after your airs and clear it so you can walk.
Must be nice working the suburbs
Do 200 stops in bklyn with pick ups.

Do the packages at ups have SID numbers like FedEx? And if so, how do you run your route(s)? In order of package number? Or out of order by what next stop is closest?
Yeah we have SID (called HIN at UPS). With the new boards we have I run the routes by whatever stop is closest.
The extra pickups will always be the Corporate stick-it-to-you that disgusts me about the delivery industry. Pick up and delivery routes should be separate. Period. If not, then there should be a number-limit policy that is guaranteed for peace of mind of the driver. Even if he never gets close to the limit.
wrong, we can deliver and pickup. not a big deal
@@Meno-iy3lk Just because your satisfied with throwing your time and life away to solely manual labor doesn't mean other people are.
It’s route optimization. If a delivery driver can juggle pick ups with deliveries, why not. Just the name of the game
@@IsolatedEcho1 It's the exact OPPOSITE of optimization. It would be fine if they had engineered a system like that properly.. It’s a lot of work but more than likely you will move up to a FT driver within a year or two, I haven’t heard yet of 22.4 being in that position all 4yrs. Once you move over to a FT you’ll be on that pay scale
Only a 50 cent difference. Plus you'll be FT in 1 year or 2

Sorry but I have to mention...you leave the package car door open, and you don't use the 3 point contact to get out of the truck. My advice to you. Check more often the lifting and lowering rules. Good luck in this career.
