Any FedEx ground drivers here? This blows my mind. If I was being watched by a camera I'd been fired ages ago. Bulk head doors open, checking scanner while driving, backing at higher speeds. There's 0 micromanagement here. I guess I got so used to it.

This is basically a show for the camera. Telematics has a few issues, for instance when you hand you keys to a part timer upon returning to the building in the PM. If the part time employee pulls your car out of the building with the bulk head door open and you (the driver) haven't punched out yet, then telematics books that distance against the driver. The Wig headed dude did actually give a warning that he was going to hop out of the package car before exiting....most sups don't. That can be an alarming distraction as you are beginning to back.

The biggest enhancement to package car over the decades that I drove were the conversion to the original DIAD from paper and the addition of the EDD system. Telematics and ORION never enhanced service to the customer or safety. ORION , if anything made customer service worse and Telematics would often have a package car driver on the defensive about an issue that wasn't broken. Like a pickup that was actually located about a mile from where Telematics, GPS and ORION said it was located. Hang in there I'm still proud of my former company.

My first week I didn't buckle my seat belt on my residential stops and got dinged 68 times. My supe laughed at me and told me not to let it happen again. The next day I completed 120 stops with my seat belt on. I think they knew what was up lol.
They told us all the time that you only use ONE hand to put the seatbelt on while the other hand is starting the car. These guys are using all kinds of hands to put on the seatbelt on.

Everyday management puts drivers in the office even if you are a veteran they don't care. Everything you do they watch you till you get 3 strikes then you are suspended and possible 72 notice of termination or go to arbitration to get your job back. Plus backs and legs aches for so many years you age fast and the stress .. good luck
When I started there as a pkg. car driver we used paper. Drove 28 years, about to lose my pension in 5 years. Central States ran out of money. Think they will hire me back? Hell I'm 74 with high blood pressure, an were a coloscopie bag an have heart problems. Maybe morning sort hope to see you guys out there. LOL
bryan1282 not anymore. I work for UPS and they are in the process of transitioning to automatic. You will still see manuals with some package cars and all semis.
A dying breed, even have power steering and lower steps these days. For recertification I find the one manual truck left, because I know the guys certifying me can't drive them.
Ups is way to strict,I work at fedex on weekends,I dont shut the truck off at every stop,I dont shut the bulk head door,and I'll be dammed if I'm going to put the seat belt on when i have 10.stops on one street

No, its low paying back breaking work. If you get lucky you might get to be a driver within 8 years or a full time combo position in 12 to 13 years. If you can afford to be a part time employee for that long and you don't mind being overworked and underappreciated, then here's the job for you. Jk go to school, use your brain, not your body.
Every time I smash past the ups drivers in my FedEx truck with my bulkhead open and my seatbelt off in those tight residential areas they just ignore me. Wonder why
