In this rant i explain why i hated working at UPS as a Driver. I started in 1995 as a preloader. I switched shifts a few times while waiting for a driver position to open up. In the years leading up to becoming a full time UPS driver, i worked also on the local sort, car wash and was a Saturday Air Driver. After approx 6 six years of part time work i gained enough seniority to become full time. This rant is one of many glimpses inside the reality of working for UPS. There is way more to it and also every building runs different. Some people love working for UPS and i totally understand that. I also use to love it until all of the crackdowns on telematics , orion system etc. Please check us out on my main channel if you want full live shows or more content.

LMAO! This has become total hilarity..it’s so polarizing how blatant it is by the differences in responses that the trolls that talk crap are the ones that have the most miserable lives in the world but are stuck..in debt..no way out..not smart enough to replace a terrible job..I have had the best laughs of my life at this thread..to the people to know and admit the reality..you are the ones capable of leaving and making more money with less hours..I did it..it’s very easy. I’m home every single day. I leave my family maybe 10 hours a week now working for myself and blow the UPS money out of the water..

You are pretty smart. Everybody doesn’t have the skills to run their own business. However, did making good $$$ for UPS put you in position to walk away? I saved a lot of $$$ being in medical sales and that made it easy to walk away and start my own business. But that can get you too,. My brother owns three athletic training facilities and he is lucky to be home by 9PM. Anyway, sounds like you found your path.

@@Biggdoom344 of course UPS helped! I never once said they didn’t pay good for a brainless job. There is a cost associated with it. The divorce rates, body damage, stress, time away from kids all wears on people. Now like I’ve said many times, every building is different. My building was a delivery building. The revenue was made on deliveries vs pickups. So they stomped out heads into the ground every day possible. Thanks for checking out the video and best wishes on your journey 🙏🏼

@@TheTommyBernhardPodcast oh yeah, I know. A good friend works for fedex and it took a major toll on his body. He started out loading planes, then delivery driver Pre GPS, then he got a job in a fedex store but took a huge pay cut because he messed up his knees, back, was getting hooked on pain killers. My son is a nurse and I know he doesn’t like it much. I just tell him…do what you gotta do to get to doing what you want. Great video though. Good luck to you.

I've been a ups driver for 5 years now. Everything he says is true. And yes you have to work inside the warehouse first. It was brutal. The reason why I'm still here is because of the pay. SO true enough u may have to buss your ass for about a year or 2 but its an investment for a better life .. it will eventually iron out to a regular work schedule like any other job once u become a Full-time driver with seniority

However if u go over they will be all over u and try telling them it’s too much. Busting ur ass is part of the job I don’t have a problem with that. I do have a problem with unrealistic expectations and then get questioned as if I’m stealing time because I’m working safely. As soon as I start I want to be done and they act as if I want to be in the truck. Every Monday, my day off I have been asked to work and I took most of those OT hours. So u know. The 22.4 contract was influenced by Amazon. Not the union. The union said to hire more full time drivers. Ups decided to hire u scabs at a less rate even though ur doing the same job. As far as 9.5 lol i tell them in morning don't expect me making 9.5, I'm gonna have late air if i don't get help. Lol the trick is, well now idk, but then it was give them sh*t right back. As far as the union, lol they are crooks too. They wheel and deal with ups so i how these ups employees now don't fall for that bs. I don’t work for UPS so I’m sure many that work there feel like him. However, I know people in all types of professions and if you make decent to great money, you’ll put in the work. Real Estate or Insurance..100% commission, long hours, weekends and nights. Stock broker, financial planner, same but worse because your income is based on one big thing you don’t control…financial markets. School teacher..dealing with budget cuts, belligerent kids and Karen’s all day. They get a lot of time off but need it. However until you have about ten years and a master’s degree under your belt, you’ll barely make above minimum wage. Fitness industry..as a manager 10 hour days, weekends, holidays and very high stress. As a former fitness manager, 60k is realistic but you’ll literally live at the gym, so do personal trainers that if you are booked out, plan on 12 hour days and you’ll barely make 50k. Work life balance is a theory. My first job was as a military officer. Up at 5AM and lucky to get home 12 hours later. Frequent deployments and potential combat missions create havoc on the family. Most NCOs have at least two marriages and I saw guys on wife 4 or 5. I probably made as a Lieutenant less than an Uber driver. You are also on 24 hour call. I did that for seven years. Thought things would get better as I moved up the ranks…it doesn’t. My next job was medical sales. Hard to get into, great $$$, but extremely high pressure, large territories that require frequent travel. I flew so much I can still name most of the airport tags..ORD…Chicago..lax..Los Angeles, MSY…New Orleans…you get the picture. To cope almost everyone has a Vice…gambling..eating…drinking..porn..and about 80% of the married ones have a Rocky ride at home. I quit because I was becoming an alcoholic. Literally going through a bottle of vodka a week. That wasn’t including the beer, bourbon and wine. The job consumes you. I left out I was becoming a pathological liar. I consistently made six figures but wasn’t happy. LE, you know the deal about being a cop or Any of the federal agencies..DEA, CIA, FBI, ICE. Those jobs divorce rate is like 80% and oh yeah, extremely dangerous. Forget having a life. So my point isn’t to contradict the message, my point is that most good jobs will suck the bone marrow out of you. I won’t bother going into hospitality industry, lawyers, doctors and even nurses who make great money, but there is a reason for the nursing shortage. They will work the s out of you..10-12 hour shifts and consistent exposure to all types of germs. Find the job you can manage and roll with it, but in most cases the grass is greener on the other side of the fence because when you get there, you discover they used more manure.

This is the total truth about UPS. Everybody has a different story but if you value personal time with your family and are not addicted to money this probably will not be the job for you. I was a full time driver for a number of years and the straw that broke the camels back was when they were on me about my times( we had one of the worst snow storms in years in 1993) and I was getting in late nights with no accidents and was told that I would have to make a decision between my job and my family. Many will not believe this but I don't care - it was so ridiculous for anybody to say that it made it too easy for me to just give them two weeks notice and leave but that is exactly what I did and would do it all over again if put to the test. I have never worked for anybody that just because they pay you big bucks it gives them the right to treat you like crap. If you truly want to be a UPS driver you are going to do it but don't get caught up in the job so much that don't allow for a life for yourself - you can't go back and get the time back. Best of luck to anyone that drives for them.

A big thumbs up for the clip... and a big thumbs down for the courier companies who treat their workers less as people, and more as numbers. If you get time, Tommy (and others), there's a great movie on this which you and other couriers will be able to relate to called 'Sorry We Missed You' (2019). You may recall I mentioned this in one of your lives a couple of weeks ago. Well worth the watch. Highlights the harsh reality faced by couriers, and the toll on their family etc. - this movie is based on the North East of England, but it's relatable to anyone who has worked in the courier business.

We didn’t start until 9am at the earliest. So just working a 9.5 day we punched out at 7:30 and home 8-8:15. Also UPS takes work off drivers they know cannot handle it and put it on drivers next them that won’t break. It’s a tough decision to get stuck on the money vs having a normal life. One delay in your scheduled working flights and your ride home is gone. All those pilots you see at the gate are trying to commute home space available. I don’t care if I work ten hours a day and could get to sleep in my own bed. Enjoy your twelve bucks an hour and don’t complain! like everything in this world someone else has it way worse always. A career is someone who is able to move up the ranks, a job is an hourly employee that depends on the company..

@@TommyBernhardPodcastHighlights disagree with career. A career is something you stay at for a long time reaping the benefits not moving up the ranks. I could work at company A for years, and don’t want to move up into management and am happy and become professional at my job. That is a career. Now my wife started at the bottom of the company she works at and now 30 years later is a director of the company. She made that company her career. I left my aviation career to finish off a career in UPS as a driver. Why? Home every night, money over 40 an hour in a few short years, free medical for the entire family even as a part timer. For the young people a pension. If you have your own business it’s much longer hours and normally 7 days a week.

Dude! Quit whining. I've been a UPS driver for 30 years and have 3 kids, did I miss out on some things? yes, but your the Man of the house, or your supposed to be. Your failing to mention to everyone the amount of vacation time UPS dirvers get, I get 9 weeks a year and since we start picking vactions in March by seniority, that means you could take one week a month up to November, not to mention you get 9 sick days, if you can't plan around that, I don't know what to say. where else are you going to find a job that pays six figures with only a high school diploma? Your blamming the company for trying to make money the smartest way possible? Wouldn't you if you had your own company? Good thing you quit, doesn't sound like it's a job you can handle.

It is exhausting... Wake up at 630... Get to the warehouse at 730-8 to sort your truck (which is unpaid) and work nonstop for 10-12 hours pending on the time of year/route/ and knowledge of the area... Im a cover driver and I never, ever can get a route done (scratch) the first several days of being put on a new route but they expect you to like you're Superman... Plus, the time for each stop is unrealistic because it doesn't take into account traffic, bulk stops, climbing stairs, a customer stopping to ask a question... Plus the new DIADs they just recently got suck and freeze up everyday, guaranteed... So for me to get my routes done I skip lunch (but still have to record one) and get there early to organize my truck ( because half the preload just don't care)... So all in all I'm working about 8 hours a week unpaid just to alleviate stress from my supervisors who are watching you with telematics everyday... They'll give you an area where driveways are 100 yards long and then get upset if you back up too much... So the next day you walk off a lot of the driveways, but guess what; the next you'll get told you took too long... I guess they expect you to teleport across driveways
