- No matter how old we are, be it a child in grade school, or a middle aged adult in the work force, at any given time, we can all fall prey to a bully. This is not as much a message about an abusive employer as it is a message to my son about bullies.

I wish I had watched this before applying. I had just quit with my post office. We are about 20-21 people understaffed, I’m still well within my 90 days and 90% of the days I’ve worked I’ve worked well past 8-9-10 pm. I couldn’t stand working at the post office.

Some individuals that work for the Postal Service in Houston, TX are not conscientious to be there on time. So a lot of people wait and wait for the outside window to pick up packages which aren't fair at all. If they have a set of hours people should be there at that time and not make the public to wait.

Yep, i was a carrier and a clerk. I worked in different states, in offices and plants. It's ALL horrible, the management treats their employees like their enemy.
I truly think this mentality is postal wide! 4 yrs to go and I intend on doing a BLISTERING RUclips video about my experiences at the Lynchburg PO, this will def be yet ANOTHER eye opener!

Spot On !!!! I worked as a PSE and the only day the Post Master or Clerk Supervisor was even remotely interested in my well being was the day I walked in and quit. They truly were surprised I was quitting and that was the day I realized those people had no clue at all how badly they treated people regardless how many times concerns were brought to their attention. I saw people injured on the job that did not report it because nothing would be done about it. I saw unsafe working conditions that were ignored. I saw employees verbally abuse by other employees. I myself was verbally abused by an employee and witnessed by several other employees just for doing my job properly and nothing was even mentioned about it. I know a Union Rep was threatened by one of carrier supervisors if she filed a grievance, things would get very difficult for all the carriers. I saw favoritism run amuck mainly by higher seniority employees who didn't perform their jobs because there was no supervision around during the back shifts and if you brought it to the supervisor's attention you would be singled out as a snitch and nothing would be done about it anyway. Call-offs, people coming in late and the lack of team work were common place. I worked with a lot of good dedicated USPS employees who did not deserve to be treated the way they were. The USPS needs a big management enigma and I to this day I still marvel that the mail actually gets delivered as efficiently as it does.

USPS is so cheap. Honestly if it took them 12-14 days to ship my ebay package I'd be cool with it. USPS should probably extend their delivery times. Im pretty sure most of the semis and mail trucks leave half full anyways.
Dont worry, Amazon will make them go extinct soon enough. While Amazon has UPS, FEDEX, and USPS fighting for contracts, they are building their network to eventally introduce their own mail service.
Apparently USPS has the rights to mail boxes/ slots but money talks and Amazon has tons of influence everywhere. They have newer vehicles and actually call off or back their workers when weather gets bad.
Meanwhile, hurricane or blizzard hits, USPS be like nope everyone come in.

Respect for you. I quit 10 years ago as a 27 years old making 24/hr after 5 years because of so much harassment, discrimination, favoritism and they treat you like you're just a number. Many of my friends and some relatives didn't understood but I didn't care. I'm making less but I'm way happier.

I worked for the post office for 5 years, I was a regular for 2, I quit last week. I realized my body cannot keep up, they want us to work 12 hours, 6 days a week, with overtime and mandating us to come in on our days off. This is no longer a career that you can possibly make it to retirement. The seniors are being forced to take early retirement, and even after you convert into a regular, you're still treated like a CCA. You have no life outside of work, and whatever time you do accumulate, you just want to rest. The post office is not what it used to be. My advice for anyone considering applying, DON'T. Find something else.

You get your foot in the door and keep a good attendance record for 2 to 4 years. Transfer into maintenance. Chill. Everybody goes through the post office the same way for 2 to 4 years. After 3 years as a regular you get 104 hours of sick leave and 160 hours of annual leave. What place gives 264 hours of leave a year after 3 years? I personally have over 1500 hours of sick leave in over 20 years. Used over 700 hours in my career. I get 208 hours now (after 15 years). They also give an additional 104 hours of wounded warrior sick leave for 30% disabled vets.

I think the advancements in technology make ordering/buying things so much easier than 30 years ago. Thus, more shipments, more bills, equalling more mail. Life is so fast paced now, and every company want money, money, money.
Should have done 3 more years to qualify for the pension or 4 years more so that you can never be laid off.
I've been at the USPS for the last 8 years.... bruh, other than the financials, it is probably the most miserable job that I've ever had. I'm grateful for the benefits, the pay, but the mental stress..... bruh! 🤦🏿♂️

@@stars8924 y’all, I was a RCA for a little while, then a CCA for a year and a half, then a regular city carrier for 4 years. I was good at the job, and some days I didn’t mind it, but overall, it was a terrible job in the sense that management is ALWAYS up your crack about when and where you are at, have been, gonna be at, etc(not the rural carriers though because their pay is based off route evaluation as opposed to hourly).
The hours you work when you are an assistant are draining, but you go regular they get a LITTLE more consistent. My knees, back, and feet always hurt, I would always be looking at the weather for the next day to see what kind of crap id be dealing with, let me just say again that management was exhausting in their ineptitude, union sucks, pay sucks, and the job sucks. 😂

Yes i was a T.E ( before they changed to CCA) i seen ppl working for 6 years and still never made it to be a permanent employee. So i decided i couldn't wait 6 years or more for benefits so had to look for a better job.

I was a PSE and I am in complete agree with you. My second best day with the USPS was the day they hired me and best day was the day I walked in 4 hours before my shift and QUIT.

Yep - they will work you like a dog, stress you out and make you feel like crap when it all gets to you. I loved my customers, I loved being out delivering, but all the BS of office politics and "protocol" made me hate that job. People don't understand why I left.

I went to work at the U.S.P.S after 9 years in the Army, having served in Korea, Vietnam and Germany. After working for about 5 months I finally had to quit for many of the same reasons you stated in your post. Enjoy your life, love and protect your family. Thank you for your posts.

I started about a month ago and am putting in my 2 weeks in on my next work day. I’m also a vet, (recently separated) and I’ve had to reschedule my VA Appointment 3 times because the of the schedule changes. I’ve expressed that these appointments are important and are incredibly difficult to move around, they don’t care at all. Every word you said was spot on, especially the no access scanning. I didn’t eat dinner with my wife for a week, i was away enough in the military and thought getting out and moving home we’d have more family time.

I delivered for 8 years. Treated like crap and doom and gloom every morning from the postmaster. It’s a shame because I really enjoyed seeing everyone on my route. But I’m glad I’m out of there.

Kevin, I've been retired for several years now, and during my 30-year career I had both male and female immediate supervisors. It was my experience that females exhibited the least supervisory skills, were the least empathetic and were the absolute worst at human relations. In fact, they could be down right hateful and mean! Perhaps a lot of them felt as though they had something to prove? As a younger woman, and a protective mother of two small children, I naively thought that if women ran the world, there would be no more wars. I now know that is not true. Without citing any particular life experiences, I have found that women can be the most vicious and dehumanizing individuals of our species.
All but one of mine were women . Most were the least competent and most vindictive.

Thats funny that you say that. I have interviewed with the Post Office with two women, over the last year and a half and just recently with a man, the man just hired me with in 3 days after 1.5 years of me trying to get a job with the post office. I interviewed great for all of them, I took the test twice and I have a high score. I retook it to make it to make my score higher, and the women I interviewed with the first time took so much time hiring that she had to repost the position I applied for bc she let the time go between the post and hiring someone for it so she had to repost it. I have 3 people at her specific site that said, why are you waiting to hire her? We need the help! Hire her! She will work like a horse she needs this job, I even have prior experience in a post office hub. But, she never has hired me. The other lady in her 30 years of being with the post office and 10 years of being a postmaster had never interviewed before. How is that possible? She said she had her supervisors hire for her but they weren't available so we were the first people she had ever interviewed. Still, I was not hired with my experience and good scores. The next interview I had was a week ago. One Week ago. That guy jumped quickly to hire me. The emails to do my drug test and my background check immediately flooded my email and after my interview I was also thinking to myself, was this a sex issue? I didn't want to think that, but thats what it felt like. But your post makes so much more sense! Bc that woman is soooo lazy! Even her employees tell me she sits on stuff but she also says that Post Masters literally sit at their desks on conferences getting chewed out left and right about not being able to meet deadlines. And they get yelled at even if they do meet deadlines. All day, everyday, bc the union is on them, and if they don't meet certain deadlines those people in charge of that yell at them. Then I started to feel sorry for her. But, I can see if you slack in any way you get behind, your supervisor position lags behind, the people who work for you that you can't supervise correctly also get lost and can't be directed properly. If you are understaffed, which lately, looking on the career's page there are a lot of openings! Everywhere! I wouldn't doubt that every single town's postal service is short staffed. Things come full circle. A group is only as good as their leader. What are the higher ups doing if all they do all day long is call their post masters and chew them up? Don't they have other things to do? I know the post masters do. But they can't do it bc they can't breathe to do it. They probably get tired of getting chewed on but they need to ignore that and do their jobs more proficiently. Maybe the chewing will go away. I dunno. I start to work tomorrow as an RCA. I also have to try and transfer eventually from RCA to CCA which in itself is hard bc you have to literally quit your job as RCA to get a CCA job once you're hired its great but you can lose your job in the time that it takes for you to quit the RCA position and go to a CCA position if someone with military experience applies for that position. Which sucks. SO I have to worry about that too.

Things were different 20 years ago, as Amazon and other big name companies either did not exist or were not as big, and people were not easily able to order boohucles of stuff.
Knew it. I retired from the Post Office. I started at a facility.. DC area. They would rather pay overtime than hire enough people.

I am living in Malaysia, no problem with postal service here, and the workers get more holidays off than any other country because of all the different races here, each having their own holidays. Maybe if they paid more, and had decent hours people would work for the post office.

I escaped from the USPS 12 yrs ago, after 25 yrs of employment. Everything in this video is absolutely true, unfortunately. I had a stroke and they accused me of stealing a dog from my route. They asked me for my keys and I went straight to my Dr who handed me my retirement notice. When I gave them the paperwork they threw a tantrum and cleared their desk all over the office. So grateful to be out of that horrible place.

I have been bullied growing up and I learned as an adult how to stand up to bullies. My son has been bullied and I was able to help my son turn things around. One bully changed into a friend, another was a friend who didn't understand boundaries and my son cut ties and was freed from the bully/friend. There are many ways of dealing with bullies and it is good to remember that.

There are many jobs with many unreasonable demands,hours and problems- and where you are treated much as a slave(try working as a Nurses aide). And many jobs where having a Union means very little. Anyhow, there is also a saying that we have to work at our passion, so work is more bearable. It's important that you recognised this, and I hope you move on from all your bad work experiences.

Im also a Vet and started working as a CCA and my 1st month into the job, I was involved in an accident with a reckless driver. Now I'm being harassed and expected to work as if nothing happened. The same day of the accident they wanted me to finish my route and unload my truck. I've held my ground and voiced my rights and now they are trying to get rid of me. I've had supervisors call me and yell at me and talk down to me. I've never been mistreated and disrespected in any other job the way I have with the USPS. Thank you for your video. I think my time has come to give them the middle finger. Their practices are beyond unethical but I salute all the men and women who get up everyday to put up with this level of bullshit. Fantastic story. I'm 53 and currently looking for a job after working 32 years corporate and being laid off. I know my mailman well for 20+ years. He knows my situation and I asked him does the USPS have any job openings? He just looked at me and said trust me you don't want to work there! Your video just clarified that. Thank you.
I'm 55 and started working at the USPS last year when I was 54 after working almost 31 years at the Internal Revenue Service which was more of laid back office work. The USPS is not only strenuous, it's also stressful because people in the plant are like high school students running in clicks this includes management at time. You're like me having a lot of years of work experience but too young to retire. I just want you to be aware of what you're getting into.

UPS uses the post office to deliver their packages many times. I have tried to track my UPS shipments and eventually find out that it was handed off to the post office.

The Amazon/USPS contract will actually be what finally breaks USPS and I will celebrate the day when they are done.
In the news just days ago, USPS wants 9-12% increase from Amazon while Amazon just purchased 20,000 Sprinter vans to do their own delivery. The writing is on the wall, Amazon is not happy with the performance of USPS and frankly, USPS oversold themselves and their poor employees.

I noticed that Amazon is making their own deliveries in my area, as well (Tampa Bay area) - I couldn't understand why..., now I know. I noticed those big white vans too, but didn't know what they were called, just knew they weren't the USPS....
Those Amazon delivery guys are the worst I've ever seen though. They need lots more training and experience. They don't show up and lie to say they did. They lie and say they can't find your home, they don't do proper tracking.. so many problems. That was last year mostly so maybe they have improved a lot because I and many more people complained so much that they may have improved. Most everything I've gotten since though has be with either UPS, USPS or FedEx. I get lots of packages from Amazon. Maybe some of those were their own service recently and I didn't notice because items showed up fine.

The problem faces is that the work pool is incompetent no matter what. The same people that the Post Office hires Amazon will as well. Last year their employees were returning to homes stealing packages, peeing on front porches someone actually took a crap in someones bushes.

I did a holiday position at the Post awhile back. They treat everyone like slaves. You work 10-12 hour days six days a week. I had to work through food poisoning and they also refused to pay me one of my checks. I had to contact the Senators Office in order to get paid. It was one of the worst jobs i’ve Ever had.

I retired from the USPS 20 years agp after 20 years of service as a rural carrier. My daughter just retired from there after 35+ years as a Post Master. Her experience was much different from mine. I loved my job. My daughter was under horrible stress. The job discription has changed. So sorry for your experience.

It USED TO be a good job, 20 years ago. But today, USPS is running the business, "short-staffed", to deliver both mail, AND, Amazon packages. So, for example, a service that requires 60 people, to "get the job done", is now being handled, by only 40 people! Imagine the stress-level of those people! It wasn't like this, years ago.
I knew someone who spent years there as well. He complained how large amounts of money were taken from usps to fund the general government fund and so pay raises we hurt. I totally sympathize. I'm not sure if it still goes on.
It's unfortunate they have to push those employees that way then when they go off no wonder they call them "going postal"

I'm X p.o. letter carrier, 28 years. I know what you say is true. I dream nightmares even after I retired 13 years ago. Sometime I'd get home and cry because of the treatment from my supervisors. It use to be a good job. Not so any more. Thanks for video.
I did 16 years at the postal service as a letter carrier and I hated every moment of it. I got tired of hearing that I was sorry and no good and that I was under worked and overpaid. I too got the chance to leave and took it! I like you was happy to get away from incompetent management and all the hostility there. No more having to deal with the weather, no more seeing drive by shootings, no breakins of my vehicle on check/foodstamp day, no more dogs, spying by management. I felt like I was paroled after i left. Yes it was difficult to find a job making what I made as a carrier, yes I lost all the paid holidays and 5 weeks of vacation. I am happier now than i ever was working at the Post Office. Happy for you man!

@@mickyunit no, because I knew my contract and was a problem for them I have had problems getting any work with the federal government or even carrier or clerk related work. I was a good carrier, fast casing time, high level of accuracy on delivery and never missed a Express mail time. I was even the rep for the customer connect program. My boss didn't want me to quit because I was one of their pack mules.

I used to work at Applebee's restaurant and every night I would come home all stressed out. I used to get off of work late and then go back very early the next day. The day that I quit it felt that a burden had been lifted off my shoulders.

I worked 80 hours a week and often doing the work of 2 or 3 supervisors. In the beginning the post master told me that he would reward me with my permanent supervisor position when it opened up. When the opportunity became open he hired someone else. Then he became a bully. He still wanted me to do the work of multiple people in 10 hours or less a day. He would scream at me on the phone, "you can't work over 10 hours!" "Why are you still there?" "You need to get a life!" I haven't worked in 2 years. I have PTSD, my knees and back are shot! I can't get myself to go back!

I left the Post Office 13 years ago. Carrying mail is slavery. They treat human beings like garbage. I used to start dozing off driving home, and my joints would stiffen up where it was difficult to get out of the car. They kept us on the streets after dark, too, in single digit weather, ice, walking up on dark porches, with people’s dogs running around. CONGRATULATIONS on getting out!
I was told by someone a mail carrier, there was a literal GPS type device tracking his time.
as he scanned from start of walk route and back. he was age 63, weighs 145 maybe, and hustled 9 miles a day walked rapidly w a 25 pound pouch.
He came home, and passed out in the chair daily like clockwork.
The odd parts was the animal type tracking they use against him for excuse to intimidate him for performance.
Ash qelon - Where you see bar codes on a customer mail box - they have to scan that by a certain time each day, & there are several on each rt., incl. before & after lunch break. I also passed out end of each day. At that time (in Cinci/N Ky) I had only Sunday off, which was used to rest and wash uniforms. No social life. My daughter said I was like a disabled person at night. It’s all true. I got yelled at for going to the damn bathroom before taking mail to the street.

I’ve had rough days as a CCA (I’m four months in now) and I’ve wondered why am I doing this? The pay is great for the small town I’m in but I could have only one day in a week to work and another week it could be four. But I’m always to be available and on call. Seriously the work life balance is sour. And making bills meet with a unpredictable check is hard too. I’ve been placed on routes that I’ve never even knew existed in my city but expected to be as quick as a regular. I was trained to not make shortcuts but unofficially encouraged to skip houses when it’s just a nonprofit or a flyer.
But yes I’ve had some days that has been difficult to just smile.
I was placed on a suspension because I threw out the marriage mail. Havent been working for 2 months. I grabbed my unemployment and I left. Sometimes I miss it but I know deep in my heart that place wasnt for me. Terrible scummy people, vile downrighr miserable with life. Im sorry I sound so bitter but I gave two years of ny life to this job just so I get treated like crap at the end. Never again.

I only stuck it out for 33 years because of the pension I would be able to retire in 30 years and age 55. I really think I am suffering from Postal PSTD. They all worked hard to support their families. My husband had a 60# object fall on him while delivering mail and is now on disability retirement. He cannot stand longer than 15 minutes without debilitating back pain. He wad treated with extreme disrespect during his 22 years as a carrier.

I too have received the emails that there was no access for my package delivery. Ha! At least now I understand why.
At the same time, the USPS doesn't own a fleet of airplanes. Virtually all of their overnight deliveries travel on a FedEx, UPS or common carrier flight. In fact, the USPS is reportedly FedEx's biggest customer.
My bestie works for USPS, she says the same thing. No respect, abusive management, overworked. She calls me a couple times a week in tears. She's been there for almost 4 years and just can't take it anymore. God bless you for making this video. Sending it to her right now!

I just started working for the post office and on the third day I thought, no it's not worth it. I called to tell I quit. Never regret it. Reason bad management, terrible supervisor.. I'm not going to submit myself to those working conditions. There is Amazon much better.

I worked one December when I was a part time worker and they can work you any hours and for long periods of time. They had me working 21 days straight and was going to make me work another 7 days, 10 hours a day!! I broke down crying, it was too much. They finally let me have a couple days off. So I know what you are talking about!!!!
Privatization of services won't solve the problem. Private companies are guilty of doing exactly what you've described except there is no union to go to bat. It's this whole performance metric you keep referring to. The goal of today's company is to satisfy shareholders and look good on paper even though it's a lie. They don't care if the crush the employees underfoot while they're at it.
I worked for FedEx for five years and your statement couldn't be further from the truth in my experience. Big Corporations have found that happy employees are more productive than disgruntled personnel and they try and make that happen. Caveat is you have to produce otherwise you are out. Government agencies couldn't care less about your wellbeing or your productivity.

I have 30 years in logistics, transportation and supply chain management. I have worked customer service, dispatch and now accounting. I have seen the process from beginning to end. Fed Ex has a different culture and an established niche. But for 3pl and consolidators it's very dig eat dog.
Bill Hodges - If you only worked for FedEx for five years then you probably didn't have the chance to experience their inferior health plan or looked into how to retire. FedEx is a for-profit corporation and, therefore, they don't want retirees. They want young, fit, short term employees like yourself that don't think about their long term financial security.
This is certainly true in the Auto industry and Tier suppliers. The suppliers are forced to give cost saving to their biggest customers every year, while trying to lower their own costs every year to meet those demands. It's unsustainable.

I was with the USPS for almost a year a gave a 3 month notice before I quit because they were starting us on Sundays which I do not believe in.
23:30 - 23:41 was my everyday reality. It got to a point where I would work two full routes and be floated around after that. My hard work was rewarded with more expectations and no pay increase. I worked 6 days a week. My record was waking up at 4:30am (arriving around 6am) and not getting home until 1am the next day and then I WAS REPRIMANDED for getting back too late when I had to start my next shift a few hours later. I was made to feel 2 inches tall on the day I saved their butts from an entire route not being delivered. The RCs got the credit while I (a mere assistant) was threatened.
I never complained once until they told me that the USPS and it’s workers would be working 7 days a week(Sundays) with no exemptions.
I told them 3 months in advance that the day they scheduled me for Sunday would be my last day. They went 2 months without scheduling me on a Sunday. When I didn’t show up, they floated me for a few more weeks as I trained new ACs (assistant carriers). My last day came and I have lived happily ever after :) My wife and I now work at home in the best job I have ever had.

People come in expecting us to do everything with a smile for them, and are shocked when we hand them the tools, point out the pens, and have them do it themselves. All while a line is going out the door, people get steamed, WITH a supervisor and manager breathing down your neck because they want you to do other things while there is a line out the door. Trust me, at least as a carrier you can CHOOSE not to deal with this. Window clerks have no choice.
I lasted almost 8 yrs . I appreciate the small pension and the benefits but after a yr of retirement I am still healing my nervous system . It could be such a great job , it's such a shame how badly they treat their employees. The most aggressive abusive employees are promted into management. It is a culture of bullying.

When I was younger, I had a job where I worked 363 days out of 365 days in one particular year. I averaged 75-80 hours of work a week-- every week-- and worked 120 hours in a week twice. I am also a veteran, like the creator of these videos. Unlike the creator, I do not suffer PTSD and cannot offer a comment on the significance and effects of PTSD. Working 16 days straight, for me, would not be any kind of a problem. Nonetheless, the USPS is a dysfunctional organization and is rotting from its head, as does a fish.
Dam you beat my USPS record of 112 hours. 16 hours x 7 days . They post this to all Mailhandler in month of December to work up too 112 hours if you like.

THANK YOU. Not only for the explanation of "no access" but also for doing your best under terrible circumstances. I also quit my job after 15 years due to abuse from management and they always think people are too scared to actually walk out the door. Since my house/mailbox is about 12 feet from the curb with no obstructions I always wondered why about half of my parcels (mostly Amazon) were marked "No Access" on the USPS tracking website. One time I called my local post office and the woman I spoke to told me very clearly "That tracking info don't mean shit." I've also given up on subscribing to magazines because they would be marked "Undeliverable" 3 or more months in a row and the publisher would then suspend my subscription. I figured it was because magazines were heavier than letters so the carrier would leave them in the truck. Now I have a better understanding of the situation.
I worked for the post office for a year and got hurt on the job. I was ridiculed by my supervisor and manager for getting surgery instead of waiting until peak season was over. Putting in my notice was the best decision I ever made.

I really like this guy. Not only is he very inspirational for having a dream to live off the grid and then going out and doing it but I also have the utmost respect for him for serving his country in the military. It's this way everywhere in the usps system , my dad was a mail carrier in wichita , Kansas for 20 years and it was the exact same way , they treated them like crap , threatened his job many times due to him getting hurt , so it's not just where your at in my opinion . I just left after a 15 year career. I walked away 100%. I loved my route and my customers. The rest was so bad that it was wearing on my metal health and all the amazon 150 plus parcels a day is destroying my body. When your station manager tells you that you have to choose between your career and your child, when my child got sick. After 15 years I chose my child and my own mental health. My mother retired 4 years ago after 34 years, why because of the managment. If you take a sick day that you earn they put discipline against you in your file, they do not care of you provide a doctor's note. Everything he is saying has weight to it.

Great Video!!! I was bullied when I was a kid. I was small and skinny so some folks decided to bully me. Then as you get older you become more violent towards others who try and push you around. I am also a retired Postal worker and retired last year in January. That place is nothing but a joke. Our supervisor or stupidvisor as we call them are extremely unprofessional. I worked as a USPS Letter Carrier for 12 years, and even with that much time in, one day I decided it wasn't worth enduring any more frustration in that kind of dysfunctional scenario. The unions seemed like they were working for the management, and the workers were divided against each other, and you don't learn a thing on that job that can give you an advantage in the world outside of the USPS. The whole job is designed to crush your spirit. Leaving was the best move of my life and I haven't had any problem finding work (good paying work) since. Leave if you can!
I also saved my mind body and soul, moving on after 15 years.

There is life after the post office hell. I'm in a much more flexible and fulfilling job now.
I left after 18 years. Make sure you contact HR when you hit MRA or older, if you worked 10 years or more, to get your deferred retirement benefit.

I think the problem might be postage rates are fixed to cpi inflation. Thus if they raise postage rates, they have to admit cpi is doctored. Thus to make up they make postal workers work like dogs. Also a lot of mail is now sent electronically, yet you still have to go to each mailbox. Hope they boost rates by 50%.

I'm retired 6 years from the USPS in December. After a short beginning stint as a window clerk, I got into maintenance, which is one of the best jobs in the PO IMHO. Except maybe carriers, there are no jobs where people actually have to work hard in the PO. The pay is good, the benefits are good, and it's a great place to retire from. It is however a chicken shit place to work. Anybody can become a supervisor. All you have to do is put in for the position and be willing to kiss lots of backside and screw everybody else over. Qualifications aren't part of the equation. We had supervisors in maintenance who were custodians before moving up. They were supervising technicians who went to hundreds of hours of tech school training and they had ZERO maintenance experience or training. Mismanagement is rampant all through out the PO, and that equates to monumental inefficiency and waste. The vast majority of supervisors rule through threats and intimidation, so most of the workforce is disgruntled most of the time. So, why did I stay for a full retirement? After a certain point in your working life, if you are lucky, you finally realize that employment isn't about the ride, it's about the final destination. I retired with a monthly Social Security check, a monthly retirement check, a great health care plan, and thanks to Uncle Sam's generous matching funds, several hundred thousand dollars in my Thrift Savings retirement account. Did working for the USPS suck? Yes it did. Was it worth it? Hell yes!
@@howardfortyfive9676 Don't know about smart! Fortunate might be a better description. The Government had started the Thrift Savings Program the same year I started with the PO. A friend who was a financial adviser looked it over and told me I would be a fool not to join up, as it was one of the most generous plans available at the time. Of course I joined, smart move number one. Sick leave was another hide in plain sight gold mine. You were encouraged to accrue it and there was no limit to how much you could save up. I decided to hang on to mine and at retirement, as a FERS employee, I was given credit for 50% of the total which added 6 months to my retirement eligibility time. Federal employees who were in the military also have the option of "buying" their time in service and adding it to their eligibility time, so I did that too. Basically, I worked 26 years but retired with 31 years of service. That's why I said the job sucked, but the benefits made staying worth it in the long run.
I'm a city carrier and the work is very hard when you don't have a lot of senority to acquire an eight hour route
@@KnowledgeSeeker78491 I used to say that the two most miserable jobs in the PO were Letter Carriers and Window Clerks because, to the general public, those two entities ARE the PO. Everything bad that happens to a customer's mail is their fault even when they had absolutely nothing to to with it. As far as physical labor, the two hardest are Carrier and Dock Mail Handler at a Distribution Center, in that order. And for Carriers, it doesn't really matter if it's a walking route or a mounted route. Walking is physically more demanding, but being stuck in an LLV all day is no picnic either. No AC in the summer, and 2 wheel drive in the winter so you spend more time getting stuck than going when it snows. And the general public doesn't even understand that when new neighborhoods are built, the PO doesn't add more carriers to cover them, they just make the routes bigger. Hang in there KS78. One other great benefit of the PO is that you have the option of transferring to a different job if Carrier is not your thing. You are really only limited by what you are willing to apply for. If you have any kind of background in maintenance, or even if you are just good with your hands when it comes to fixing things, consider giving the maintenance test a shot. Sign up for all of them, MPE, ET, AMO, and building side maintenance. Whatever you do, if you decide to stick with the PO as a career, sock as much as you can into the TSP. If you are not at 5%, get there soon, and plan to jump it up to the max as soon as you are eligible. And don't blow through your sick leave, no matter how tempting it is. Make it your goal to hit 2080 hours. That's a full year's worth of sick leave that you could take off with full pay if a medical emergency struck in your later years. I can't even begin to count all the people I knew of during my career who got desperately sick and were begging other workers to donate annual leave to them because they had blown all their sick leave as fast as it was put on their pay stub. If you don't use it before you retire, so what. I traded mine back to the PO for an extra 6 months worth of accredited working time towards my retirement. If you were in the military, buy your time back. The longer you wait, the more it costs. You can set it up and set the automatic payments to whatever suits your budget, so it's pretty painless. The PO really is a great place to retire from if you play it right.
I carried mail for 28 years. I fell on an icy/snowy day and broke my arm. They actually wrote me up for breaking my arm because they said I shouldn't have walked up the driveway. Well it was snowing out so there wasn't anywhere I could walk that wasn't covered in snow. Of course my union won that one easily. I moved to be closer to my dad as he was getting older and needed assistance. I transferred to a job at a processing plant as a custodian. It was closer to my home. I was treated horribly by management and other employees. I was even spit on as I walked by a mail handler one day. I reported it but nothing happened to her as the only witness was her friend and she was a "good" employee. I didn't even know these women or why this happened to me. This caused me to go on ereassign and put in for other jobs. I ended up with a window clerk job 10 minutes from my home. I have 2 female bosses that act crazy most days. They are the most useless humans on the planet. I think one is manic and not medicated. The customers are rude and I'm yelled at daily for stuff I have nothing to do with. One of my coworkers (the lead clerk) is the biggest asshole I've ever met. He makes up rules and the supervisors are okay with it because they are afraid of him. I get along well with the other clerks but they all hate working there too. I refuse to do any overtime because of how I'm treated. I am 54 with 35 years service. I can retire in 2 years but the pension is not very much and I'm too young to use my thrift savings plan. I'm looking for a job now so that maybe with the pension and health care I can leave and make enough to live on until I can get my TSP and SS. I hate everyday there.
@@lisa9867 Don't forget to check out State jobs. You can transfer your federal time into a State job so that you don't lose any. Personally, as close as you are, I would just check out the PO jobs listing every day and look for a place to ride out the last few years. You'll probably get treated like shit no matter where you go because that's the PO way, but there are some jobs that are relatively painless.
I am currently a postal employee, I’ve been a full time regular carrier for about two years, and I’m considering resignation. I don’t get nearly as much time with my kids as I would like, and have virtually no free time at all.
I am so glad that my kids are adults now. I couldn't imagine working for the USPS when my kids were small. My wife is more understanding about the job because of the money needs but the hours are not family friendly.

Thanks for your service. It's so criminal the way vets are treated in this country. I too worked for the USPS for 15 years and saw all the same harrassment, ineptitude and the dysfunctional business plan that you and the commenters describe. Fortunately I was able to leave in 1998 with enough money from savings and a house sale to retire. Just barely got out with my sanity and before I would have needed multiple surgeries from my body breaking down from the overwork and repetitive motion. Amazing how fast my body recovered after leaving. Positive I'd be dead by now if I didn't get out when I did. Little seems to have changed since then, except that now many businesses, ie: Amazon treat their employees the same way. It will only get worse as courts continue to rule in favor of big money and against the workforce. As long as they can make an extra penny, the employee is just an expendable tool. I don't agree that privatization is the total answer because... see Amazon above. Employees will still be abused. The problem is much bigger than just the USPS. It lies with Big Money and Corporate America running the country and almost having free reign to bully and abuse. Betting they will also start abusing customers once a few big corporations take over industries, cutting back consumer choices.

Money is the root of all evil. When a usps employee retires, they do not, in too many cases, repost or rehire for that job. This is called attrition and is a major problem. Also, having to "prefund retirement" (pay Congress, who has already spent what usps paid them) for employees not even hired yet, has cut deeply into the pockets of the usps. The usps used to be a "cash cow" for Congress, as any excess from breaking even, went to Congress. They are and have been beating the path of the usps toward privatization for a long time. So, whoever is running that game MUST be going to come out on top themselves, money wise, at least

This is a requirement that NO other business, organization or branch of government is forced to pay into. THAT is why the USPS can't afford to hire the employees that are needed NOW. The only reason the postal service is required to pre-fund the retirement of kids that are still in school is to force privatization. I can understand why this guy thinks privatization is the answer, but privatization would mean sending a one ounce envelope would cost in the five- to ten-dollar range. That's just not reasonable for the average American. But it sure would make rich UPS and FedEx stockholders MUCH richer!

Very well put. It is horrible that companies understaff, reduce product quality, and pinch pennies anywhere they can. They lobby our govt to change laws that will benefit the company, and further restrict workers rights. They expect less people to cover more workload for less pay and benefits. All to ensure CEO's continue giving themselves raises and bonuses. They are more concerned about shareholders than anything.
Been there done that ! Then I got a job in a postal distribution facility . It was worse ! The first thing I was told was "what goes on in this facility stays in this facility" . That confused me at first but after a couple of weeks it made sense . You can tell all the people you want ! They won't believe you . Mail sorting facilities are unbelievable !
I know I quit after one week worked 7 days straight. They kept lying to us about off days! And all other Days!! Overwhelmed us the 1st week!! I couldn't do it neither could others many quit to the first week. I was not gonna do it!!!🤔😐

Thank goodness your wife made it out with out causing harm to herself or any body else!. I was amazed how fatigue would set in and you really had to pay attention on the road. I quit after 4 months of hell at USPS. Plus the horror stories I heard from numerous veteran carriers , if you do get hurt, USPS will make your life miserable

Finally finished the video this morning and saw the reveal. I'm not surprised but I am surprised all at the same time. In our town, we have horrible service at the local office and the counter clerks are pretty rude to customers. There have been many complaints about it over the years but nothing happens. The other day I went to pick up a package and the lady went behind the counter and then came out and said it wasn't there. I said, "your website says it's here, can you look again." She said no and told me to go get a tracking number, which I had to go all the way back home for. When I came back I was helped by a different lady and she went right back and got the package without even needing the tracking number. I usually get very frustrated with all of my experiences there but I hold it inside because I'm a nice guy. After seeing your video, I have a whole new outlook on the people behind the counter and realize that maybe they aren't the problem but their employer is. No wonder the complaints over the years haven't gone anywhere. I'm surprised about this because I served in the Navy for 4 years and can't believe that a government agency would treat their people this way. I didn't even have it this bad when I was on deployment to the Persian Gulf. I'm sorry for your story but even more sorry for the people that still work there. How do we stand up to this? I think I'm going to choose other services as much as possible.
The way we fix problems like this is for us all to refuse to work in those conditions. They wouldn't treat employees that way if anyone they did treat that way just left. Unfortunately in this country there are too many people that are simply too chickenshit to stand up for them self. If my employer tried getting me to put that many hours in I'd find a new job.
This happens in other areas to I live in the San Francisco Bay area in it happens here all the time period with that same excuse

I live in Michigan & we don't have a carrier anymore; our route gets serviced by other carriers after they finish their route for the day. Many of the times I get stacks of mail for other neighbors & now I understand why. They're overworked & ready to drop!! I’ve never been bullied as much as I have working at the post office and I’m not sexist but in my experience most woman supervisors are pretty evil, my grandfather passed and my supervisor Greg told me to take as much time as I needed and wanted to make sure I was doing ok, while my Female supervisor said she doesn’t care as long as I fill out the paper work for the time I need...my female post master once told me without this job what would I offer to this world

Great story! I used to drive a route for fedex and we would deliver smart post bags to the post office. After several days coming and going from the post office those bags would still be sitting there. The USPS is no longer a trusted organization.
MOST of the offices are understaffed. It is being done ON PURPOSE. I don't know why, but it is being run into the ground all over the country. Misdeliveries, lost parcels, damaged packages...the list can go on and on. I get peoples CHECKS in my mailbox, their insurance cards, ALL KINDS of stuff. AND... Amazon doesn't help. It's a mess! Glad you're outta there!

Celeste's Nest it is absolutely awful in Mississippi. I pick up mail for the company I work for and the amount of misboxed mail and lack of employees is so sad at these places. I actually catch shit from my own employer because thy started thinking I’m the one messing with mail... nope, just USPS.

I was beginning to become suspicious when I kept “losing” Amazon packages carried through USPS, so I started down the RUclips rabbit hole and am absolutely appalled by the nefariousness of the service.
As someone who’s only been at the post office 2 years as a MH it hit hard when my wife said she can’t remember she witnessed me smile.
So sorry you had to experiance this. It hurts me to know that vets are not getting the respect they deserve. I've had some of these issues in the past with USPS and knew it had to be something like this. Thank you sir for your service and god bless you and your family.

Oh, and let me add... When I was with them we had benefits the SAME as CONGRESS!! No BS!! The absolute BEST. Today... that benefit package isn't worth the paper it's written on. #NotAFan of USPS.

The benefits are still better than at most private companies.
@@CelestialWoodway Mine cost me almost 400 dollars a month for a single person plan and still have a deductible I have to meet, as well as high co-pays and tiered pharmacy coverage that is based on prescription cost. My best friend works at a local factory and his family medical plan cost him 120 a month for all four of them, has the same deductible, but his copays are half of what mine are and his pharmacy coverage is better. 1500 a year for four people versus 4800 a year for one person, I don't know if we do have better coverage than most anymore.

I did 18 year in when I quit it was 42 . I know exactly what you talk about . all I can said before 1997 was the best job , but after that thing changes.
