    The Post Office tried to break me on my 3 month probation period. They didn't understand I was like Forest Gump. I ran, ran, ran and ran some more. Best days to deliver mail, were days when no one went outside because of the weather. Dog's don't like to go outside when it's raining. And less people to talk and answer their questions.

Sometimes it it even comes down to physical or medical disabilities. When I was 18-26 I could work an 18 hour shift and be ready to go the next day. People also forgot key things like DIET and Stretching. You walk that much everyday etc if you’re tired you should be drinking plenty of water and eat big ass meals when you can so your body can recover. Everyone’s body gets weaker and slower as they age but things like exercise, diet, stretching, etc help slow down that process.

    --When I started, it was called TE (temporary employee). They worked us 10-12 hours a day, six days a week, including Sundays, never knowing when you'll be off so you could never plan anything. Not a single bit of training. Threw you on a case you'd never seen and expected you to case mail like the regular on that route, and then acted surprised when you couldn't.
    --Brand new to the city and no idea where anything was, and they'd just load you up and say "go". Same thing - "Why aren't you flying through the route"? If you asked where somewhere was, they would get mad that you didn't automatically know the city, even though you'd never even been there before.
    --Actually had a postmaster say mail volume doesn't affect your street time. Say what? I never heard a post office full of carriers all bust out laughing at the same time like we did.
    --Worked in a city that is home to a major university, 40,000 students and their mail, and management would do route inspections over the summer, when the students and their mail were home on break. Then, when school started again and 40,000 students were back along with their huge mail volume, management would pretend to be shocked that your numbers and times weren't the same as when they inspected you.
    --God help you if you got hurt on the job. It was bad enough that management hated you for it, but there were carriers who made a daily effort to belittle you for being on limited duty, as if you were enjoying it or faking an injury (how do you fake something that requires surgery?). I hate those carriers to this day, and wish them the worst.
    --I was a TE for about 1-1/2 years before making it to career status, and it wasn't fun. No training, constant stress from management for not magically knowing everything about the job from day one, with zero input from anyone. It was 100% learning on the fly. Never cased mail? Never carried mail? Nobody cared...just do it, and be as good as someone who's done it for 20 years.
    --The office I worked in could never have survived if it weren't for a strong union. I have nothing but praise for the union officers we had, who kept management in check on a daily basis. Making it to career status didn't mean the games from management ended, but the union kept them in check. Without a strong union, you'd be lucky to have any CCAs even staying through their first 90 days.

    29 years and I love what I get to do everyday. I do a lot of shadowing now it's funny to hear at the end of the day " I did know it was this hard". I love to shadow on those difficult days , heavy volume and some type of weather situation makes for a day of reality, the new CCA kind of gets and idea of what the job entails. Hang in there it is worth it.😊
    One thing in the video that I didn't agree with is that it's harder now. I certainly don't recall that. I remember 14 days straight working on some holidays delivering in the dark sometimes 2 routes a day, crazy volume. The only harder part is that the CCA's are working to make it to career employees with benefits, we came in as part time flexible employees(PTF) with full benefits
    The hard part is probably taking all that crap from management and not having those benefits yet.jmo😊

    Been a CCA for a year and a half. I started 2 months before consolidated casing hit. It was some tough shit. Going from 6.5hr long routes to 8 hours on the street was a damn good gut check.
    It's not a job for the faint of heart. It's very mundane and boring a lot of the time, but this job's no pushover. You will work anywhere upwards of 60 hours a week, every week, you might get an off day after 15 days straight of working, maybe, we had a CCA from our office up to 21 days straight with no day off. You're out in the heat, the cold, the monsoons, the wind. It's hard. When the rain's blowing from every direction and there's 4 inch deep rivers running down the street, your ass will be out there clutching your soaked mail marching from house to house. And you'd damn well better be back before the truck leaves. They don't care if it's 100 degrees outside, you'd best hit all those damned MSPs or there's gonna be Hell to pay. You'll have dogs try to attack you. You'll have dogs successfully attack you. You'll have people scream in your face and threaten you if you defend yourself from their dog. You'll have some rude ass customers. The management will actively work against you. They are not on your side. You have to be able to handle that if you're going to make it. It ain't all sunny days driving around in a truck all day.
    Pay's pretty good though.

    When I worked it was called a Transitional Carrier. We got parts of routes all over the city and were expected to learn them on the fly (no GPS back then). I was the only transitional to join the union. Unfortunately back then the union career carriers didn't like the transitionals. I was literally stopped by my Post Master from buying postal fowl weather apparel. I had a one year contract and when that year was up if I wanted to become career I had to start over, from the testing. I had waited 3 years after testing to get the job and was offered the transitional job working 7 days a week with a 1.30 hour commute one way or work 2 hours a day for 90 days commuting 5 total hours a day. I chose the transitional for the money. Thinking back I wish I had taken the career and stuck it out to get to career carrier. The job stress is management! Not the customers, not the physical aspect, you even get used to the weather.

If you let something somebody says get to you, how are you going to provide the best customer service to your customers you possibly can? How are you going to deal with a customer who gets on you? If a customer gets mad about something and goes off on you, as a member of the United States Postal Service you don't react in the same way. You defeat bad behavior with kindness. You have to remain calm and collected under fire. That's what it is all about.

That was a career position from day one! Yes you had your 90 probation but after that it was all good. I never saw PTF’s quit like I see CCA’s quit and I don’t blame them benefits suck and pay sucks! let’s get PTF’s back again and you will see the turnover rate change big time bc they have something to stick around for

    The job itself is easy, but they will work you until you drop dead. Not having a set schedule, and not knowing when you will have a day off is totally wrong. I was working literally 12 days in a row, clocking in at 8 and leaving at 6 every day. And not once, at my time there, was I able to take my lunch. I also found out I wouldn’t make regular for almost 5-6 years. The pay is nice, but it’s not worth it. Keep your sanity and work someplace else

    • @thmth7711
      @thmth7711 4 года назад +7

      I went through the same bullshit when I first hired on. You do have time to take your lunch and your breaks. Take them, if anything is said at all make two phone calls, one to the union and the other to the Labor Board and give the name of the supervisor or the postmaster that has discouraged you from taking either. They will get away with anything they can to make themselves look better and meet their own goals. Your postmaster will bonus if you make time, the better they do, the bigger the bonus and them doing better means they will push you harder. It's against the law if you don't take your lunch, so take the lunch, take every min of the lunch and take your breaks, every second of the break. Not doing it isn't going to fix the problems, enough has to be enough with this chronic shit that is rampid through the majority of the offices. The post office is not above the law and they rely on scare tactics and the belief that you want your job bad enough that you wont turn them in. You're not going to get a bonus for pushing yourself beyond your capabilities and your postmaster isn't going to share their bonus at the end of the year with you, the one that they make off you busting your ass and not taking your allotted lunch and breaks. Take the breaks and take the lunch, they take it from your check and they are not willing to give you 1 min that doesn't belong to you on your check, don't feel like you owe them anything. This should be a class action lawsuit against the damn post office because it's going on all over the country and it's being turned a blind eye to. It's not your responsibility that management can't hire enough people or the post office won't pay for enough carriers and are trying to wear you out and get rid of you before you make regular.

    I keep seeing videos that everyone says the same thing about management and it makes me wonder if possibly some leadership were prior military and they’re conditioned to giving orders and pushing limits or if it’s because it is such a good career, and maybe they had it bad themselves thence it continued to stay within them so they in turn punish those after them in order to get the career as they were treated. I have no idea why everywhere all over the United States/ all the videos from everywhere have the exact same culture pattern minus the few with no complaints regarding supervisors and management treating other human beings in degrading ways it sounds.. when it’s the ultimate service aside from military->-> to get the citizens what they need. • @NEMO-NEMO
      @NEMO-NEMO 4 года назад +5

      Mustafa Lang it’s s long standing federal entity that was allowed to run its business anyway they wanted to. In the beginning there was no such thing as these CCA, ect. Folks got hired bc they needed a carrier or window person and you got the job. People were properly managed on a day by day shadow and minimum touching of mail, until you understood your route and the difficulties associated with every street. Same thing for the window. As years progressed, many folks who had enough time in the company, and who could retire from their duties decided not to retire but keep going PAST THEIR 70s! Making their years in the company a whopping 30, 40, 50, even 60 years as an employee. The USPS is now mandated to cover the pensions of these individuals up to 10 years in advance. Thus making sure that you take care of all those older folks who should hv stepped aside and retired at the time they reached 65 or correct time of service. So all the monies that are running in the millions to Pre fund these pensions leaves the USPS with little to nothing to run their business. The USPS should hv placed a top ceiling of age and service time in their contracts so that folks moved along and allowed the business to grow. Today you hv these old timers and middle men 15+ years running each office bc they hv become a “family” of sorts. Seeing each other everyday of those many years and developing a kind of protective barrier to any new comers. This family including supervisors and PM. makes all decisions as you who stays and gets welcomed into the group and who goes regardless of anything. These old time employees protect their turf at all times and they all stick together bc let’s face it where else are they going to find work when you hv been in one industry for well over 25+ years. They don’t hv code of ethics classes, they still think it’s 1978, so are the trucks. They hv no idea about discrimination, racism, verbal abuse, physical abuse, belittlement, slander, lies, bullying or the new laws that govern hostile work environment. If you hv choices about where to work, plz re think the USPS.

      Mustafa Lang I’ve thought about that same question myself and the only thing I can see is that Congress and the House hv mandated that they cover these pensions for these old old retires 10 years ahead of schedule BECAUSE, it’s only a matter of time before the USPS simply has to stop running its business due to lack of funds. It’s on a survival plan and I think that there hv been plenty of terminated employees who hv successfully taken the USPS to court and won but those numbers are never reported in the media. I’m one of them.

It's literally impossible to foster a friendly, free work environment while everyone is paralyzed by fear and self-preservation. There's also the repetitive nature of the job, which is notorious for being harmful for mental health. UPS but you will be stuck as a package loader for 2+ years before you can be a driver and you will most likely only work like 20 hours a week during that period. From what I've heard. Also bigger packages which leads to people destroying their backs and knees.

    Sounds like a black hole of mental stress and the ungrateful management there to perpetuate it. I can't believe this video was actual honest about it?! Wow

    Can anyone explain why USPS management are so abusive?

  • @jaztez3540
    @jaztez3540 2 года назад +1

    I do not recommend it unless the office you apply for has good reviews. I worked from 9AM to 8:30PM 14 days straight with no days off and every day I will be change to a diferentes route, no time to get use to it just work work and be fast if not you will get a call from supervisors.
    Management needs training people skills and yes you loose weight, that is the only good thing I can say about it.

      As a regular you know your own route and no need for gps since you know where to park. Also know where are the hidden mailboxes. I guess experience is on your side as compared to CCA's.

    Postal service goin under due to the fact postal management focuses on saving time and money, not allowing carriers to perform a quality job hence the reason why packages get damaged or “lost” especially with the CCA program smh.
