      @BIGHAMZA 8 лет назад +12

      BMWhips If you think standing walking pushing pulling bending squatting working in freezing cold and extreme heat and rainstorms and snowstorms isn't hard work then you need to get on board and try it yourself. Satchels of mail can weigh 50 pounds and most mail carriers have to lug that around for 8 hours or more while holding 2 and sometimes 3 bundles of mail in one hand. Shit isn't easy dude. And you have to remember who moved, who died, who's on vacation, names of residents etc.

    I have actually worked next to this young lady, and let me say she is a positive, upbeat employee who works very hard and cares very much about doing a good job. We work at different stations now, but I loved working next to her! She once suffered injury, and her attitude about it was that she hated being injured and unable to do her job, and was doing all she could to recover and resume full duty as soon as she possibly could. Deide you're a sweetheart and the USPS is blessed to have you!!

    As a carrier, these small acts of kindness really go a long way in making my day and encouraging me to want to do a better job for you: 1) On a really hot day, finding a cold bottle of water waiting for me in your mailbox is a wonderful treat 2) ensure that your box is easily accessable and opens and closes easily 3) We are on a tight schedule, please refrain from having us wait for you or engaging in conversation 4) Clean out your box regularly; spiders & wasps love to hide in there. Thank you!

      Bobby Murphy What's a scan point

    • @JediMasterBaiter
      @JediMasterBaiter 7 лет назад +2

      A scan point is a barcode attached to a mailbox that must be scanned in order for management to gauge the time it takes a carrier to do a route.
      Do note, however, that scanners now have GPS, so management can see a carrier's location at a given time.

    Some mail carriers still walk their routes in 2015. Inside city limits mostly where many residents have the older style mail boxes by their doors and even old mail slots in the door.

  • @briannwo1900
    @briannwo1900 9 лет назад +30

    Mail carriers don't "clock in" at my post office. You get 8 hours to do your route. Finish early go home and get paid 8 hours. Finish late you work extra but get paid for 8 hours.

    • @buckeye-pe6df
      @buckeye-pe6df 5 лет назад +9

      That's illegal...they have to be paid for hours worked. I seriously doubt the USPS is doing this

    • @overnightdelivery
      @overnightdelivery 5 лет назад +3

      Matt Jenkins It's not illegal and part of the contract. You are paid based on an Evaluated time for the day. If it's rated for 8 Hours and it takes you 11, you still get paid for 8 that day. On the flip side if you get it done in 6, you still get paid for 8. If you go over 12 hours for the day, then you get time and a half overtime. Postmasters try to make sure this does not happen. However if you go over 40 hours for the week, then you get paid for all the hours that you worked. That is for substitute non-career carriers that get paid by the hour.

    • @overnightdelivery
      @overnightdelivery 5 лет назад +3

      Matt Jenkins And this is for Rural Carriers (RCA)only. City Carriers are usually on the clock and get paid for every minute they are there. So if your fast it's a good deal and if your slow you kinda get screwed as an RCA.

    The carrier job is decent, if you can get out on the street on-time. In my office, mail was NEVER up early. years back, the volume was insane. I left in 2001. An average day, say a Wednesday, would have 9 to 12 feet of letter size to case, plus another 15 feet or more of flats to case. Then a good 12 feet of dps Mondays or a day after any holiday, pushed that amount up.
    Parcels were never too crazy back then, except around holiday time.
    Accountable mail was a lot usually, because I had a town hall on my route. My town was real big on writing as many tickets to people as possible. Hence the certified, return receipt volume.
    I had 520 stops, both residential and business. Oh yeah, Christmas was very profitable. Lol

I mean the frozen winter is dreadful, and I pretty much hate all dogs at this point, but it is by far my favorite job I've worked, and I've done a lot in the past ten years of working.

      +Seth Moore Hi Seth, I was a new CCA as well and yes I loved the job. The best part was being out doors and the friendly people had the chance to meet while I delivered. Although I delivered at a good pace it was not good enough and sorry to say I have been terminated. Always remember it's good to be efficient as long as the quality it there as well. Good Luck at your new CCA position.

    • @deborahs102

      I applied on line then they emailed me my drug screening after this I waited and got another email for a orientation and a job interview the same day as orientation given to me by a Post Master. Then I received a email to come back in for the Live Scan which was there at the main hub as well on the same day we bidded on the Post Office by Test Scores who ever got the highest test score got to pick the Post Office they preferred to work out of as long as it was available then after we were assigned out Post Office we got a scheduled date for Postal Academy which consist of one week a 40 hour week you are payed for it... and one scheduled day of Certifying you to drive the LLV Postal Vehicle then you call your assigned post office for your schedule...for me their was no schedule ever even though I was promised one and they were short a mail vehicle. I delivered 15 Loops 318 houses a all walking route and completed it in 7 hours got down to six but Post Master said to do it in 4 hours...it was impossible I delivered as fast as I could and there was no time for lunch, break, or the restroom...thank goodness I did not have to use the restroom Lol! My hours were cut severely and in the end I was only getting 8 to 13 hours in the week then down to one 2 and a half hour day because he cut the routs and wanted me to deliver in 2 and a halft hours ..sorry Impossible!!! I was Terminated on my 62 day did not make probation. Reason for termination was Deliverying the mail too slow and short a mail vehicle. .. I did Love the job even delivered in the rain too. If you need 40 hours of work to support your family I suggest you think hard before excepting this Job ...I thought I was going to work 40 hours plus but look what happened to me ... there is a lot or favoritism played in the post office. Good Luck to you and God Bless You

      +David “CrazyCatMan” Massey ..The in town routes are called park & loop.Those are usually the ones that are walked. You park on the corner & deliver mailbox to mailbox (which is attached to the front door area) for a block or 2(up one side and back down the other) & then move your truck to the next corner and start all over again. The post office gives most new areas boxes on the street(curbside) that u drive or cluster boxes that are at the end or middle of a street that has maybe 20 or more boxes in 1 large cluster. Then u must go down the block to get ur mail.

    As this young attests, being a letter carrier, is in many ways, a very rewarding job. Most of the carriers in my office are energetic, competent, professionals. Unforunately,the biggest downside to the job is the egregious, unending harassment by management. Nothing will ruin a perfect day faster than seeing my supervisor's car in my rear view mirror, riding my bumper so she can pull me over to tell me that I'm failing to keep time.

      @cigarcatfromwayback...lets380 9 лет назад +2

      Jason Infantry. Not trying to be negative or piss on your dreams, but being a carrier can be tough .... plus, it depends what type of area you're delivering in. I delivered in the Washington DC / Northern Virginia area where I had TONS and TONS of mail with extreme and unnecessary pressure from management to "hurry" and get er' done. Which is impossible! If you're in more of a laid back town or rural area, you may have a better go of it .... if you become a carrier though, my advice to you is to stay away from metropolitan areas .... you'll have WAY less stress ...

    I will probably never get any mail back. When I went to fetch the mail, it was a note from someone saying that they are interested in buying our home.

    "But you can work 80 hours a week if they need you."
    They pay the same right? I would LOVE that. I could care less about working double. haha. I would love raking in the dough. I thought when she said "you don't work full time" she was going to say you work less not more. But it sounds like she says, "You are guaranteed FOUR hours but you can work 80 hours per week." Does she actually say 4 or 40? 40 would make sense. haha. 4 would be way too low.

    She's a real sweetheart. However she did not mention the "other side" of the post office, the clerk side where the work can be very physical but indoors out of the foul weather. I've been a postal clerk down here in Florida for 21 years and have never envied the carriers having to go out in the rain and HEAT! :-)

    I`m a postman in the UK if there are any US posties on here could you tell me if this happens in the US too....on my round there is a house that has a broken letterbox. the cover on the inside of the letterbox is broken and each time I post the mail the cover falls to the hallway floor and makes a very loud noise as it hits the floor..the woman who lives there will not get the letterbox fixed. She was drunk the other day and said she is reporting me because the cover fell again...same in US?

      barbellbender15 Sociology is on the top 8 worst return of investment degrees you can get. This is a field that truly is overworked and underpaid. Switch degrees while you have the chance if you're just in it for the money. www.salary.com/8-college-degrees-with-the-worst-return-on-investment/slide/3/

    Dont forget your collection mail has to be taken back and sorted with your markups . Staying alive great choice. Amazon ! Bills by mail - pay by mail use the mail box rule when posted it's considered delivered dont let them speed your payments electronically.

  • @tracykyrk9044
    @tracykyrk9044 10 лет назад

    Yes it happens here too. I would hold the mail untill she fixes her box and I'd throw away the box cover and let her know I can't deliver to an unsecured mail box or knowing me I'd fix it myself since she is useless and I would be alot easier then dealing with her.

    As a Los Angeles Carrier, I can attest the content is true and honest. I can also validate that, if you take out the BeeGees background music, this video would be no different than the dozens of training videos the Postal Service shows to us.

    Is this the same problem in the USA too...THE SAME PEOPLE GETTING PACKETS EVERYDAY!!!!!..shopping on the internet all the time. I`m amazed by the amount of stuff people get through the mail.. they must have money to burn. It is annoying that the same people have parcels everyday...THEY MUST NEED NEW STUFF EVERY SINGLE DAY!!!!!! At the moment there is no limit to how much a person can buy off the internet.THERE SHOULD BE! Its ridiculous online shopping has destroyed the post...its made it harder.

    How to become a letter Carrier is out of date. The usps has a Web site & you have to apply there for a specific job before talking the exam. You start as a CCA, RCA or PSE these days PTF is almost non existent.

    I have to say, she looks profoundly depressed. I'm not suggesting anything negative about her in any way, but I think she's really saying, "this certainly wasn't my dream, and I'm sure it isn't yours. But it's a tolerable job when many aren't."
