You are an absolute legend my friend. Having spend 6 hours on your youtube today I just want to sit down and have a beer with you. It was more helpful than any other channel I have watched in the last couple of weeks. Cheers man, super grateful!
Thank you for taking the time to make this video! It was a lot of info but shooting video has so many layers. I am very new so thank you for all the details.
Thanks for a thorough guide on XT-5! I’ve set it up for photography with custom emulations. Don’t plan on shooting professional video as I have other dedicated cameras to do the job but I’ve been experimenting with IBIS/IS and I have to say I’m keeping these settings as “off” as for experienced handheld shooter, IBIS delay and the forcing of my image feels counter intuitive to me, and I found that it often mistakes slow camera movement and overcorrects, and it causes aberration that can’t be fixed in post. As for a hybrid it shoots great looking footage in 6.2K 10bit internal for anyone who doesn’t invest in atomos systems. 4K 8 bit resulted in some banding artefacts in my case, expectedly.
Nice video. I already have set my XT5 almost the same. I use my C7 for settings to transfer those clips directly to my phone and post it on social media. It's CC a with a bit more contrast, saturation, 1080, h264 ✌🏻
@@blasepivovar I have just re-watched this actually. One important setting you may have missed is in the Power Management page. Pretty much everyone (most importantly Pal2Tech) recommends you set the Performance to Boost. This is what give most people performance issues, including AF problems.
@@blasepivovar btw i know you mentioned this in the video, is 360 mbps overkill for youtube videos? Been doing h.265 360 mbps all along and havent tried 200 haha
That wokred perfectly! One last question if you dont mind. My auto focus is fine when im wider but doesnt work very well when i step in closer to the subjects. Any tips?
I was thinking of adjusting all these features on my X-T5 and I have seen your awesome video. Thank you so much for it! I will also buy your Luts. They look perfect Blase, thanks!
My go to is the Sigma Art 18-35 EF with the Fringer EF-FX PRO II adapter. The Tamron 17-70 X Mount is also a good all around option. If you are just needing one prime lens for those styles of videos and are on a budget, I would consider the SIRUI Sniper series and either the 16mm or 23mm just depending on focal length preference. Hope that helps.
This would be so much more useful if you explained why you choose certain settings. Why turn peripheral light correction off? Many of us dont even know what that means and could learn a lot. Thanks
Totally hear that. With the video already being at 18min tried to skip over ones that I don't view as important. That said, Fuji explains every setting on their site for every camera (including odd ones like peripheral light correction) so that might be a helpful reference if you are still curious about what certain settings do. I usually just google "peripheral light correction fuji" and it will take you right to the page in the manual that explains what it does. Here is the entire manual for the XT5 if helpful: fujifilm-dsc.com/en/manual/x-t5/index.html
Hi, was wondering what SD card you would recommend. I’m looking at the sandisk v90. Can estimate the recording time available at 128 and 256 GB with your given settings? Cheers and great video!
Depends on what settings you are using but for me I only use 200mpbs LONG GOP, 422 10bit and have no issues with just a UHS-I, V30 card. I currently use the Sandisk Extreme Pro UHS-I, V30 card and have been trying out a UHS-II v60 card from Sabrent as well with no issues. When filming in 200mpbs you can expect 5hrs 22min on a 512gb card - 2hrs 40min on 256gb - 1hr 20min on 128gb. Hope the helps!
Hey Blase. Love the channel. I was curious if you could make a video about what NDs you use. I would love to shoot f/1.2 in direct sunlight (I do a lot of outdoor stuff) but with the minimum iso being 1250 for f-log, all my strongest polarizing NDs cause really intense vignetting (and I typically can’t even tell it’s happening on the camera monitor until I edit) I love how tiny the polarzing NDs are on my camera vs a matte box for travel and stealth. And they also don’t break the bank. And I don’t have to carry a bunch of fixed NDs for all my different lenses and have to switch them as the sun changes or I shoot at different angles. Did you find a solution to this? Or are all these requests too good to be true?
Hey Tyler! Yeah I get asked about ND's a lot. I haven't made a video as I haven't found a solution that I really love. That said, I do currently use the Nisi Swift True Color VND. I still get some color shift despite what reviews online claim. For best image quality, it seems like fixed ND's might be the move, but not the most convenient if doing run and gun. For that, I've been using Farewells m2 magnetic fixed ND's. I personally don't love either solution but they get the job done when I need ND. Hope that helps.
Bro, I want to ask, how to adjust the ISO aperture and SS settings in photo mode so that when you switch to video mode, the ISO aperture and SS don't change, how do you do it... the problem is that the X-H1 fits even when you move to photo/video mode, the ISO aperture and SS settings remains the same. If the X-t5 switches to video aperture mode, etc. it changes again
You can preview the Rec709 image with the flog view assist but the file is still recorded as flog 2 and is transmitted to a monitor as such. Does that answer your question?
@@blasepivovar Thanks! But is it possible to see the image with a Rec709 overlay on the XT-5 screen while recording ? I cannot find a setting in camera... On my Atomos I would install a LUT, but I want to use my Fuji without the external monitor. With Canon cameras you have a so-called "View-Assist", that I am trying to find in the Fuji settings, but I am unable to find it. I went through the whole manual. Thanks again! To clarify: I want record in LOG but see a rec709 picture on the XT-5 screen.
@@klowkowks Yep! Just go to Setup - Screen Set Up - Page 2 - Flog View Assist - Switch to ON. I assign this to the down arrow as a custom button for quicker toggling on/off. Hope that helps!
How do I go about maintaining recorded videos in 4K while using a monitor on the Xt5 since it doesn’t support 4k hdmi cables for screen monitors? Is upscaling an alternative?
Not sure if I am understanding exactly what you mean but my external monitors all are able to accept a 4K signal from the XT5 even though their displays are 1080p. I use the Andycine A6plus V2 as well as the Feelworld F5 PRO X
