    Hey Blase, if a client wanted a video for, say, their website, but also wanted clips for Instagram from that, would you still film everything at 24fps? Or would the instagram angle convince you to shoot at 30 for that project? How would you handle a situation like that? thanks!

    • @blasepivovar

    Mine arrived yesterday (after 11 months the waiting list and still 600 cameras down on that list, I bought a used one X100VI). I've worked through a couple of set-up vids, and your's is great. One suggestion I have is locking in a base C Standard set of settings before trying to enter custom recipes. That way you can always revert. Of course, this is my first FF, and frankly, I find all the settings and modes intimidating after the Canon DSLR experience. So I might not fully comprehend the effects of what I just suggested. Some concepts are till fuzzy. Like are there a set of base features and settings that apply to all modes (no mode, C1, D2, and simulations)? If I just turn the camera on in manual and start shooting, what mode is that (since there is a standard mode in simulations) Also, if I set Flash Manual anywhere, I can't find any control to adjust the Flash strength without going into the menu. Am I missing something basic? I wouldn't mind a "take it out of the box and start shooting" video. Then, I could start building into the really complex menu settings and nomenclature. Another suggestion is always resetting the Camera to Factory Setting and then updating the Firmware before setting anything else up. This is particularly true if you bought used, but you never know if a QC person at FF or a clerk in a store switched some setting that will bedevil you until you eventually find it.

    • @blasepivovar
      @blasepivovar 19 часов назад

      Thanks Rick. Some features apply to all modes. Others not. Hard to explain in the comments. As far as shooting in manual, the mode depends on your drive setting and your simulation based on whatever you set it as. Not sure on your flash question. Good call about factory resetting after buying used. Great idea!

    Thanks for the detailed breakdown of everything, its really helpful! But I would like to ask, if the VM40 receiver is plugged into Camera(operated by DP), and im the Boom guy who holding the VM40, may I ask how do I monitoring audio in real time with headphone? Do I have to use a long cable headphone and monitoring from the receiver? Or is there any easier way to do it? Because Im standing a quite far distance from the DP, and DP couldn't multitasking to monitoring the audio and record video at the same time. So I tried the Comica APP and monitor it with mobile phone, but I couldn't listen any sound from the mobile phone(even there is a "phone spearker monitoring" option), any advise?

    • @blasepivovar
      @blasepivovar 2 дня назад

      Great question and perhaps the common downside of these budget products - they solve one issue but then create others. You can monitor via the 1/8" output on the mic itself but in my testing seemed much too quiet to be able to hear it properly as there is no independent control of the level coming from that port. I think it's more designed to be used by someone operating a camera and monitoring audio at the same time but with the added benefit of internal recording in the event of interfering / clipping. That is great feedback and think their next model would be wise to include a dedicated headphone out with level control on the mic itself or the ability to send it to two receivers at once

I'm still lacking in things like lenses, lights and audio and am finding it hard to attract higher-paying clients without the tools to provide solutions and deliver the highest quality video. Thanks, subscribed!

    • @blasepivovar
      @blasepivovar 5 дней назад

      Ooo yeah I hear you! For me just started really simple. 1 cam, 1 lens, simple audio kit, 1 light. You can land plenty of work early on with that setup and can get great looking projects in your portfolio. Gear investments happen when they are "needed" and when I have a project already under contract and a deposit paid. That way you can buy gear here and there as specific projects land. It's a slow build for sure but keeps you moving forward without the excuse of not having enough gear to make something great. Hope that helps!

    awesome video! I have a question and that is that I have built up and secured everything around my business so far but I am at the position (recently completely self-employed and no longer part-time) where I now lack customers. I have one customer who is my main customer, but I suspect that if I set my low prices to normal, he will leave me. How do you gain customers and get orders, of course by word of mouth and through recommendations, but apart from that, do you have any tips on how to get customers?

    • @blasepivovar
      @blasepivovar 8 дней назад

      I'd love to do a video on this someday! I wish I had an easy trick but for the most part for me it's: do good work, post about it online where your clients are (instagram, linkedin, etc), and then repeat. The more people that see you doing good work (clients and friends/family) consistently, will inevitably lead to word of mouth referrals over time. It's not quick or overnight but a way to think about it. As far as raising prices, I just always think about supply and demand. If I have too much work, my prices are too low. If I have too little work, I may be overpriced or not delivering what clients would want. I know none of that is super crazy new but would love to do a video on it sometime! Thanks for the suggestion!

    Nice product. I found the Zhiyun Molus 200 to be a better choice for portability and output, since in max mode is about as bright as this one. It's also smaller and has BT too via the app. Have you considered it? In my country they goes for the same price of 289€

    • @blasepivovar
      @blasepivovar 8 дней назад

      Yep i've owned the G300 previously so have experience with their lights! Awesome compact light. For me it's all about investing in a product line which limits my choices to Aputure/Amaran, Nanlite or Godox. As far the zhiyun light, I did not love having the power ballast and the max mode is also at a fixed temp of 4300K if I am not mistaken which I don't find super helpful. That said, it's a perfect great light just not the one for me!

    • @riccardotosatto3264
      @riccardotosatto3264 8 дней назад

      @@blasepivovar I totally agree with you but the difference between a 200w and 300w is about 0.58 stops of light, so for many not a big deal since nowdays ISO capabilities are extremely clean on the higher values. In your experience how many time did you really need 300w of power? I think for many controlled sets 200w is enough. My concern is about the other light Zhyiun provides. Take the Molus X100 and Molus X60 RGB both capable of being used via battery or USB-C so way more portable than the Nanlite ecosystem in this case. I don't know these are my only considerations am I missing something? Thanks for sharing your POV and also the fact that 90% of YTBERS are marketing collaborators to the light companies.. that is so true. Nanlite to me is the best and most used by professionals like Mark Bone ecosystem but is very expensive and not battery capable.

    so earlier i tried to video (its also nighttime btw) in manual mode with std film simulation and dr at 400 image quality is raw.. raw recording is lossless compressed.. now when shooting footage the footage was clear i can see everything the image is great and didnt event use a full gb when recording for about a minute.. then i switched to custom c1 which is setup in flog 2.. however the image was very dark even after turning the aperture down from 2.0 to 1.4 it still dark and image quality quite grainy but even worse it used 3.6 gb after just 13 seconds of recording ( but could have something to do with it recording in pro res 422 as my vfx editor says it works best for him) i would like to hear peoples opinion i can even send the video.. what can you recomend as you know i am trying to film at night so trying to get good image in flog 2 while trying to save memory as im supposed to be shooting my own musiv video tomorrow night.. any info hmu asap

      Yeah sounds like you have a lot going on there. For a great mix of image quality, file size and an image that is easy to grade I'd go: H265, 422, LongGOP, 200 mbps, classic chrome, -2 highlights, -2 shadows, -4 sharpness, turn off all noise reduction.

    Dude I can relate. I was shooting on an s1h & eva1 but sold them off for a pair of red Komodos. I love the Komodos but here I am wanting a mirrorless camera that can pair well with them lol I have a gh7 but I’m wanting to ditch mft for good and only shoot with my ef lenses and the xh2s stands out to me for its open gate and 14 stops of DR. S5ii doesn’t have the IQ that I loved from my s1h so that’s why I’m not going to stick with lumix until an s1h ii comes out and can see what that offers. Nikon doesn’t have a camera today that I want and canon is super expensive lol Sony, everyone around me shoots Sony so that’s why I went with red to be different and I think that’s why I’m wanting to check out Fuji as well. Plus I have an xs20 as my dad cam and even that camera impresses me with its IQ.

    usually there's battery adapters that allow you to run a power cable directly through the battery pack using a battery shaped adapter thing. The xt50 has a little flap on the battery door that looks just big enough for that to work, the M50 also does this, I used the adapter regularly

    *Update! Someone brought to my attention that as of Resolve 19.1.2, users may have issues using older templates / presets as shown in this video. That said, my new preferred method for creating presets for titles is actually using Power Bins! To do this, create a title using the Text effect in the edit page. After you like how it is looking, simply drag it to your ‘Power Bins’ where you can create a custom folder called Titles. From there, you can then drag this on to any timeline in the future, in any project. Seems to be easier for my workflow so feel free to try it out for yourself.
