4 x 14mm bolts hold that front reo to the chassis for the front bar under car. Undo the 4 bolts and the reo comes off with the front bar in one go without the need to remove all the stuff/intercooler :)
Exactly was going to say the same thing. Much easier to remove the front bumper with the reinforcement bar attached, getting to those four bolts is a pain but much easier that way. U compare it to how simple the VII-IX are as thats a five minute job. They really over engineered the CP9As.
Yes, was the same on the Evo2 i had, some minor bolts under the headlights and around the front guards, then the four bolts up through the chassis rails.
You haven't yet broken into the hydraulic part of the AYC system there. The 2 drain plugs you opened on the rear diff are the rear diff oil and the ayc clutch bath. The ayc clutch bath uses the same type of fluid as the hydraulic system, but is seperate/not pressurised. So you have 1) Rear diff oil 2) AYC clutch bath 3) AYC pressurised/hydraulic fluid. Hope that makes sense
@@speedacademy you'll almost certainly need a new AYC pump. Check out Harry Hockly motorsport in the UK they are very highly regarded for pump refurbs. Get some HEL braided lines for the pump to the diff aswell 👌
In my state if you have your wipers on the headlights must be on as well. Someone must have done a mod to help with their laziness of turning the lights on lol
I'm thinking it's a day time running light modifications to pass inspection. You need day time running lights in Canada. But in Japan you don't. Every import I've owned has had that added to pass initial inspection. Now I'm not sure why that would involve the wiper blades but possibly the lights are tied into that mechanism for power.
in sweden all cars must have auto turning on low beams. I had a imported merc that did not have this feature. Always forgot about it and drove around without lights. Should be standard everywhere
Ahh dissimilar metals ruining threads. Brembo repair with time-sert.... way more secure than heli-coil, Used em on cylinder heads, diesel injectors, and... Man i love this Evo series! Also for all the people watching but who aren't subbed you're missing out on some really killer content!! Hands down this is one of the best automotive channels on youtube they do things right and clean and most of all they keep it light and fun along the way. Keep up the awesome job guys!
You guys are very detail oriented. Which is a good thing in an engine build. And why I proudly subscribe. Your biggest hurdle is going to be having faith in your abilities and trusting the process lol. Dig in. You got this!
been here since the FRS build n still to this day the was the ultimate build/race series. i have gone back and re-watched it. i know you guys dont have the time to do that again. for those that have not seen it they do a supercharged FRS build then race it in this week long race were they had to travel to different racetracks each day and enter 2 events each day to get points. it has a time attack part then an autocross. they have to use the FRS to go from race track to race track n the only tools they can have is what the FRS can carry. F-ing EPIC!
When a RUclips channel buys someone's old project, I always wonder if the previous owner watches and doesn't comment when they see their half-assery or bad modding exposed...
The easy way to remove the Front Bumper is with the Bumper Bar still attached. it is held to the car by two bolts on each side in the chassis legs. Once you pull those and the other clips and bolts holding the bumper to the car the bumper would have come free with the bumper bar attached.
Don't need them on street Evo's. O.E is perfectly fine. Especially if you have big cams, no balance shafts the 4x stock engine mounts transfer less harshness and vibrations. Track or strip duties you may want something a little more substantial but with a 400+wkw(600whp evo on American dyno's) streeter they are more tolerable.
@@DStead2239 I have hard rubber mounts by Hardrace in one car and by Tomioka Racing in another (alternating daily drivers) and they're not noticeable after warmup. The cars do have a vibration at about 1100 to 1500 rpm which is where idle is when cold for about 5 minutes, then they settle to factory NVH and I'm never reminded that they're there.
the lights and wiper motor are probably wired together so that when the wipers are on the lights are on (the car assumes its raining so lights on for safety). i wish more cars had this and with modern ecu tech, it really should be as easy as pie to do it. i have automatic headlight and automatic wipers on my car but the two systems don't talk to each other which is mind boggling. the amount of people i see driving in pouring rain without lights on is high. doesn't necessarily help you see but it certainly helps me see you driving at me.

Please make the switch to speed density so you eliminate your MAF sensor. Cleans up the engine bay nicely and won't throw you into limp mode should you ever blow off an intercooler pipe.
The wiper motor circuit provides 12V at cranking as well as engine on, to trigger a relay and keep it triggered when your starting a car. I use this same trigger source for an aftermarket electric fan I swapped in place of a manual one. I bet that harness you found was a 'city light' setup or aftermarket HID or LED harness.
After this series get an Evo X and you can have a series where it goes head to head with the 6 and the STI. You'll enjoy the X, the front bumper can be taken off in 2 min, and the engine makes more jam than the 4G and EJ
I could be wrong, but I believe the headlights will be triggered on whenever the wiper circuit is on if they were off to function as an additional safety feature during rain conditions. I used to drive a ford ranger ute for work i think it was a 2017 model it did exactly that when you used the wipers and the lights would turn off if the wipers were turned off. At least that's what i think, but I could be very wrong.
15:00 normally the front dam(bumper) of most mitsubishi lancers/evo, you have to remove it together with the bumper bracket which is held on the chassis with 2 bolts on each side(accessed from the bottom of the chassis). But then you took the longer route which is a normal thing when dismantling things.
I had oem engine mounts in my dc5; using an ingalls torque damper worked great for throttle response without being to harsh like poly mounts would be. Great video.
With regards to the 75%, I wouldn't pay much attention to that number. As long as your views are a relative consistent fraction of your subscriptions you can rest assured your core audience is watching most of your videos. trigger relay for the headlights is a way of getting around the DRL requirements in canada. I had something similar done in my RHD mr2 when I got it here in montreal
im,subscribed since you guys was building the.... K24 swapped 240sx... i really love that combination waiting for the season 2 when you guys puts some boost..
That relay could be a wire to headlight wipers. Some old school Japanese cars used to have them. I’m not sure if Evos ever did but it’s a possibility that it did and the previous owner just didn’t remove the wiring for it
Also, leave the bumper bracket on and just unbolt the four bolts from the chassis rails and the bumper comes off in one piece... you don’t need to remove the intercooler etc...
A crossover series with Turbo Tom would work here fellas - he knows his way around a Mitsu. Not that you don't, but it would be fun to see Tom lending a hand. Cheers.
I don’t remember if you posted where you got the car from, but some states have a law that states that if you have your wipers on you have to have your headlights on at the same time. The previous owner may have added a relay to turn the headlights on while using the wipers, being that Evo’s are pretty much a target for traffic patrol.
Instead of using a helicoil for the caliper thread repair use a time-sert. In my opinion it is much more of a solid thread repair. I used them on my brembos on my 06 sti after the bolts broke in the calipers
Looks like a mod (or maybe a weird Mitsubishi wiring job) to make sure the lights come on when the wipers do. In a large part of the US you need your headlights on when the wipers are on.
Could be wrong, but some cars are designed to turn on the exterior lights if you turn the wipers to intermittent or full on. Sorta like a DRL thing. The idea being "If it's bad enough you need to leave the wipers on, you should probably have your headlights on. If for nothing else, so that other driver's can see you in their mirrors."
Front bar takes 5mins to remove, you actually removed the front bar skin off the reinforcement bar. There are two bolts underneath each front rail, then 2 bolts where there front guard meets the front bar and then it slides out as a complete unit with the front reo still attached.

You dont take the bumper off the metal support. You just under the two bolts in each chassis rail and take the bumper off while still attached to the metal cross member.
Unfortunately the 2 piece downpipes as you called them don't flow as well. But if that car was using the MAF like stock then boost leaks are ultra no bueno.
Ralliart style solid rubber mount.. but only use 1 for crossmember...and 1 for the engine side... Dont use on all 4mounts... It would be a little on stiffer side if compared on just 2 solid mount+2 oem mount combo
Why not just fill the motor mounts with window weld? It does increase nvh but compared to aftermarket mounts, it's much less harsh and can be done for under $20

Davids correct. A lot of unnecessary removal. That bumper support rail comes off with the bar and its a super quick easy job. Same like evo 3

Ralliart or cusco, and get a tubular north south bar from ROSSSPORT in the uk
