So glad this build could be resurrected! Gotta say that already that engine bay is one of the cleanest I’ve ever seen on the channel…sure that the new intake is going to take it to a new EVOLUTION in JDM builds 😂. Also shoutout to DP who is the king of the tuner double entendres!!!
My builds are period correct nostalgia builds and in the late 1990s we were absolutely deleting our cats on turbo cars. Therefore that specific smell is very much a necessity on my 1990 MR2 Turbo build. Sit in the car and give it a few revs and you have that nice turbo Toyota over rich smell to transport you back.
MAN I'M SO GLAD THAT YOU REALY BRING THIS BACK! THE STI KILLER BUILD. THIS WAS THE FIRST BUILD THAT I SUBSCRIBE AND ALWAYS WATCH YOU GUYS, WAY BACK 2019. THIS IS MY FAVORITE BUILD AND THE CHANNEL OF DEVIN NIEMELA.
Pete and Dave, this build was randomly suggested and introduced me to the channel in 2020, shortly after lockdown. Glad to see it back to the front of the line and progress being made. Keep up the good work!
When assembling the engine if you put thicker oil in the oil pump itself before bolting it on that will help with priming a lot. I usually put everything together and put the timing belt on last so I can run a drill on the oil pump until all the lifters push oil, then put the timing belt on and don't habe to worry about it.
I have also seen people loading them up with vaseline, which I think also works well. Some pumps also have a passage close to the pump gears where you can gravity fill the pump with oil. Finally you can remove the spark plugs for a bit more cranking speed! But in the end I do like that Jegs pressure bottle, good solution too!
Such a neat chassis and beautiful build overall. Can't get enough of the Artec mani - such quality and simplicity. Even more exciting is they have one for the KA24DE. 😁
Great content guys!! So I just found out today the distilled water is just a better than tap. What should be used is deionized water. I've been using distilled for a long time. Came across a video of a company that specializes in cleaning motorsports cooling systems. They said deionized water is the water to use. I looked it up and found it to be true... hope this helps. Keep the vids coming!!
When vacuum filling cooling systems you don't necessarily have to fill the line before hand, but you should crack the ball valve slowly as opposed to just opening it fully.
I need a time machine for next week. =) Your videos have always been an inspiration for me to work on my cars in the garage. I recently bought a super clean NB1 Miata, so wish me luck.
We JUST had the same problem with a evo 8 engine not wanting to prime . i tried the compressed air didnt give me good numbers but didnt setup the air pressure system like you did . the fix was when the engine is upside down oil pan off pour assembly lube into the pick up hole and give it some turns until she takes it and keeep adding , i used about half the bottle . then put oil into the oil filter and screw it on . i had a cup of oil on the pick up tube and spun the oil pump until i started reading oil pressure on my gauge connected to a battery . had to refill the cup of oil a few times . and oil got everywhere but the motor was primed and safe
Trakmotive CV axles, highly affordable... tho for the ford 8.8, I have a job this winter that will be loading them up to a 206'000 psi tensile load... the original 365000km axles made it thru only one winter season expending two sets of tire chains in the process. 50 bucks each last year they were 900 bucks with importation tariffs but those seem to have been dropped.
Hi, I watched your video and it's really very informative and interesting, you're doing great work, keep it up guys, I enjoy it, love to to see your next vids 😊❤❤❤❤
I noticed the catalytic converter was installed naked. No heat shields or wraps. Would it benefit with a simple heat wrap around it? Keeps the floorboard cooler, and helps keep the heat in making it more efficient for catalytic converter things.
You two boys sound like the Canuck equivalent of OzzyMan when you discover a leak during a first start. Your accents ratcheted up to 11/10 Maple syrups. 😂
@speedacademy wow. I really appreciate the response. I had no idea some would prefer to not have a strong blow off noise and such. It does make sense. Every single one of your modifications are so carefully considered.

Nothing wrong with hi flows cats man. Barely restrict and running cleaner, all good in my book!
Agreed and better than Captain Planet kicking you in the dick.... re mighty car mods 😂

I absolutley love the look of this gen evo. Its simple but gorgeous. This ones a keeper guys. Also that exhaust is fire
“She’s a squirter” should be the theme of next Speed Academy merch drop 😂❤ Loved the episode, great work on fabricating IC piping 👌
That manifold and hot side is a thing of beauty. Nothing is more impressive than well designed and engineered parts like those.
I have to say. That was the perfect ad placement, right as you zoomed in on the instrument cluster, boom, back to back ads

It's a teating mcsmong?
You did a bang-up job on that lower intercooler pipe, for doing it yourself!
Always love seeing a Pete fabrication montage

Convenient timing. I was just rewatching you guy's Evo 6 build series.
I forgot how far the Evo’s already come compared to how you first got it! Great work as always 💪🏻🇨🇦
4g63 for the win!! Can’t wait to see this evo done again!

You had me at Squirter
To prime it you could have put a drill on the oil pump pully before you put the timing belt on and primed it that way. Then put the timing belt.
Looking good guys, Love how honest the videos are
15:00 Appreciated that!
Glad to see this build back up and running. I have to say I'm not fan of the way the exhaust tip is pointing at the ground
That manifold looks so well built on the up close camera shots
When vacuum filling cooling systems you don't necessarily have to fill the line before hand, but you should crack the ball valve slowly as opposed to just opening it fully.
That song when you were welding had some definite FF7 influence for sure kinda cool
I need a time machine for next week. =)

Good luck!
Thank you! Finally back.
I love that exhaust manifold
EVOs are like Tinder girls, just full of surprises and often have crazy problems
Never related to a comment so much
You forgot to mention a ton of fun lol
@@pl-boostcreepif it doesn’t get you jail time 😂
Yall.... 😂😂😂😂
You guys are the best. Best channel on RUclips
Finally Evo is back on🎉
I had that same bolt hole leak oil on my engine also when I built it, Noticed it after the first break in drive.
Yes! Can't wait to see the next one!
Can’t wait to see the artec intake
awesome, Always wondered what happened to the Evo.

the fix was when the engine is upside down oil pan off pour assembly lube into the pick up hole and give it some turns until she takes it and keeep adding , i used about half the bottle .
then put oil into the oil filter and screw it on .
i had a cup of oil on the pick up tube and spun the oil pump until i started reading oil pressure on my gauge connected to a battery . had to refill the cup of oil a few times . and oil got everywhere but the motor was primed and safe
One more oil leak and you'd make wake up some BMW build memories :) Great series.
BMWs leak? Never :D
Wow that thing sounds good!
I'm no expert but I gotta say Pete's fabricafion work has gotten pretty damn good.
Enjoyed this video. Can't wait to see what it can do
Am i going to be able seeing this vehicle in sema show this year??? so excited for the build.
You said to keep you honest... you really need to invest in a backfill purge setup when welding the thin SS tubing.
Very true it is on the list of things to get.
How does Pete not have PTSD at this point? 😂
Don't have t wait for the intake reveal. watching this a week late 😁
I do enjoy cars that are more down to earth... this is more realistic than, say a supra or a skyline. Funny thing is, they are just as much fun! 😊
thank you. Very interesting! There is the same video about EvoХ? Удачи Вам ребята
Sick. Seems close to radiatior
Car looks good sounds really good ! Keep it up the good work

Next time for the oil pressure, remove the spark plug the starter will turn the engine faster then build oil pressure faster.
less load on the bottom end bearings as well !
Hi, I watched your video and it's really very informative and interesting, you're doing great work, keep it up guys, I enjoy it, love to to see your next vids 😊❤❤❤❤
Im really curious about these artec manifold. Wish you could have had a comparison. Shame the evo blew up previously.
I’ve been waiting a long time for this video 👌
Nice job guys!
I noticed the catalytic converter was installed naked. No heat shields or wraps. Would it benefit with a simple heat wrap around it? Keeps the floorboard cooler, and helps keep the heat in making it more efficient for catalytic converter things.
No pain no gain
Nice , I’d buy the old turbo manifold
Pete is a cheat code👾
I bet they will be using the new artec evo intake
Hg is “Inches of Mercury”. It’s a typical unit of measurement for vacuum in industrial applications.
Good job!
Holy crap running without the crank pulley is a chance to take... Iirc there's nothing holding on the cam belt pulley when the crank pulley is off 😅
Not on this engine. There is bolt that holds the sprocket on the crank
@@speedacademy jup and a pretty big one^^
Hey what slim fan did you guys use!? I want the same one, it looks amazing.
My favorite gen Evo....get it to mint please 🙏 😋 ❤
Finally got the video

Hope you got a better tuner.
Hmmm I wonder if that's a Gruppe M intake... I just bought one for my 97 M3 😁
Awesome to see 2 great Aussie companies joining in 🇦🇺 4g the world 😂
Was the coating on the exhaust manifold done locally?
Yes, Stripping Tech did it in Cambridge
@@speedacademy 🙏. I'll check them out
Should have put a small boltt with sealer on it or a plug
As a Subaru wackjob…..that’s a sweet looking Evo. 👌🏾
Artec intake incoming? ❤
Is it the group A intake box.? Rallytech
Had 4 DSM’s and the 4G63 are great, all the supporting components break. Mine were always breaking.
ARTEC Carbon Evo Intake ?
Wouldnt the pipe touch the radiator when in load as all engine mounts have some type of flex
i have an evo 3 here in the states, does that Canadian company make an exhaust for the evo 3??
Install a kigley oil pressure regulator in the head that's a must
Filled the cw system, but there is no water pump? 🤔
nice evo
What is that silver foil on the oil pan?
Good way to heat up the radiator
I have an Airlift. What method do you use to prefill the feed hose with water?
more evo content pls
Worried me a bit welding that stainless IC pipe without back purging, given the sugaring inside could get into the intake track.
The oil pump needs to be packed with Vaseline. I've built tons of 4g63 and see oil pressure within 3 seconds on first start.
Interesting
@RenntatoRacing fills the void so it prevents cavitation, and it will suck up oil instantly.
This can’t be safe. 😂 Does the Vaseline just melt??
@@TML34 it's oil based should be fine. Makes a lot of sense actually
@@TML34 also should change oil after first heat cycle anyway
Looks like a valve cover bolt is missing on that lower right side.
I think SA got a channel GR Corolla, will they be posting any videos?
Good content.
Yall need a period correct sti to compete with this, maybe a 99 V7 ej207 coupe??
Noticed you guys never added any fuel pressure regulator or anything of the sort are those things really necessary for a build at this level?
Not really. With the big fuel pump and large size injectors, even with a droppin fuel pressure injectors are well within their capacity to compensate.
The engine mounts have to be rock solid, or the wastegate will hit the radiator.
Ehhhhh, it’s fine! 😂
In the UK that gold foil is called W⚓️ tape
Next time you are trying to build oil pressure on a brand new engine, remove the spark plugs. Removes all the load from the bearings.
We did that just didnt show it
Interesting, wouldn’t have guessed, sounded like the starter was fighting compression. Good move though
What is the point of recirculating the waste gate? Errr i wish i understood that stuff
An open wastegate is very loud and dumps exhaust gas underneath the vehicle. The recirc is quiet and puts it back into the exhaust system
@speedacademy wow. I really appreciate the response. I had no idea some would prefer to not have a strong blow off noise and such. It does make sense.
Every single one of your modifications are so carefully considered.
Evo one step closer to battling a little Corolla maybe?
"The old finger thing" LOL
Group A carbon airbox from Rallytech
Man I want to buy an evo 6 now😂
Would have been nice to see the log when it blew up.
