Please take care of the rust in the joint by the chassis leg and front strut tower joints. 👍
Yeah I wish they do that, looks like surface rust, nothing a wire wheel cant handle but tackle it now so it doesn't get worse..
There are a million places where surface rust is present on this chassis. We'd love to get every last spot but simply dont have the time to completely overhaul the chassis. It would take a week to do that and no one will watch us clean rust for 20 minutes in an episode.
yes, the rust needs to be cleaned up. The sti is gonna get manhandled once this is complete.
@@speedacademy I understand of course. But defiantly in the near future please take care of that rust spot on the inside fender because it will gradually get worse, doesn't look like its urgently needed now
Speed Academy you would be surprised what we will watch especially in lockdown 👍
Up to you guys but as a Mitsubishi mechanic in Australia I use a little copper grease on the pads and pins to stop binding. Just when heat comes into the pad thats when binding can happen. Anyway great content as always and be safe. Any other pointers I'm happy to help as watching you guys helps me =) sending love from Australia.
Love the videos guys. Great sign of a well put together video is I don’t check to see how long is left. Love the build.
I think you installed the outer tie rod incorrectly...probably make the bump steer worse...those are usually inverted
Thanks for the pointer! YOu're right, they are upside down.
@@speedacademy But the taper on the knuckle won't fit the inverted tie rod. I think those bump steer correction tie rods are for a CT9A chassis where the tie rod is installed under the knuckle.
The rust removal on the hub face is very important as it will affect the runout of the disc!
I got my calipers done by detective coating a few years ago! The guy is amazing man seriously good choice on who you selected!
Love that service loop/strain relief detail on the Ohm harness... definitely stealing that.
The EVO is getting there, looking forward to new content
Keep safe guys!
Cheers from Portugal
Your fancy pants brake pad shims are to keep heat transfer down from pad/rotor interface getting into the brake piston and thus the brake fluid... if they work at all; not that goofy answer you gave. Really enjoy your channel.
Getting close, cannot wait to see how these two builds pan out in comparison
Those brakes look awesome! I look forward to the "self isolated" content. You guys are setting a good example by doing that.
No theyre not. Herd immunity. Look it up. Still going to friends shop to work in my car..only 3 of us really. But its been long enough we know none of us have it. Not going to stop what keeps me sane.
If you read (and believe) in aurora bearings white paper on rod end boots, they don't necessarily keep water and dirt out but they do a good job of keeping water and dirt in.
I end up buying a few thousand in bearings each year for the kits I make (SSB Designs) and use an affordable teflon bearing for all locations so they're cheap to replace. In 5 years now I haven't had a single one needing to be replaced from any customer or my own car. So Im pretty convinced covering boots just aren't needed and may be detrimental.
I have stop tech pads on my Audi they are great!! While I had them installed my parking brake cable insulation broke down and actually held the parking brake on while I was driving causing the rotors and the brake pads to heat up to glowing red hot. If it hadn't been for these pads my car would have definitely caught fire. So shout out to Stoptech I'm never putting a different type of pads on my car again.
i love this build! i just started a very long project myself and when i feel overwhelmed i always think about what you both have accomplished on this channel. keep up the great work!
Dave those calipers look great Justin did an awesome job
Love how this car is turning out! I actually had to fabricate a shim to use Evo8 shocks in my 6. Good to see something available for that. Love how that harness looks, wish I could afford something like that for my rebuild. Stay safe and keep up the good work guys!
yes of course its going to beat a STi , if that turbo's too small for the top end...swap it out, like you were going to do...
1 Ralliart bushes are the best but some are not available anymore. 2 Kiggly oil reducer in the head stops all the oil sitting in the head but in the sump. 3 Check in the diff before you put in the drive shaft for a Torsion diff. 4 Brembo calipers hold to much heat fit Alcon 6 pots and Carbontec pads 8s or 10s.
I think the pad shims keep the caliper (and therefore the fluid) cooler, since it separates the caliper from the pad. I don't think pad fade will be improved.
I've used those pads for dual duty, love them for the price! Decent bite and decent heat tolerance while still being quiet. They would squeal for a few hundred miles after every track day, but would go back to normal afterwards.
Guys!!! That’s awesome that you used Detective coating he does great work!
That MAP sensor should be re-positioned to prevent moisture 'sitting' in the sensor. Best practice is a constant fall into the manifold. Keep up the good work!
I’m an STI guy but man do I love this build. I never thought I needed an Evo 6.
Hope you guys keep putting out content during this time, this build is coming out awesome.
Hey! May want to consider relocating that oil filter. Looks like a vulnerable area especially when hitting burms at the track! I'm sure theres many remote relocation kits around
Mind blown this video only has 40k views!!! You guys deserve more views!!!
I tried to get one of those OHMs harnesses but chatting to sales staff I was met with a surprising amount of resistance.
i've been wondering how I want to redo the underbody on mine for quite some time now. This video really helped me decide which sections are being done
Thanks again for another great video. You guys deserve way more subs than you have.
Just recently installed my Evo 9 Harness from OHM racing
Absolutely love this build series. Great frigging job fellas. Stay safe up there.
That rust near the wheel well... 😂😂 I can't help but noticing it.. Can we just paint it please... 😂😂😂
Be safe, stay healthy. Love what you are doing!
Ti shims do not keep the pads cool, they protect the pistons/seals/fluid from heat from the pad.
In fact, theoretically reducing the ability of the pistons, fluid, and caliper body to absorb heat from the pads would increase the operational pad temperature. LOL, not a problem really, it fixes more than it stresses, but a fun bit of data none the less.
Love the video. Definitely makes me wanna get an old an evo
Prior to installing a new brake disk on the hub it should be cleaned from any rust, a this will cause vibrations Deutung braking.
I like the stop tech 309's! we have the same exact front caliper in the GenCoupes as Evos and Sti's (heck same part number for the pads; 309.1001) and those were fantastic in the street, autox and like up to 10 laps in a the my local "F1 track", before I have to cool down the engine Temps lol. prefer them over anything HAWK makes!
Great stuff, guys. One of my favorite channels! Keep it up!!
Loving the progress. All the best....stay safe
those titanium shim actually put more heat in your pads, the reduce the amount of heat going into your fluid
I love everything you guys have done, minus the drive flanges. I would’ve loved to have seen the rust cleaned off them. A little wd40 and a wire brush would’ve gone a long way.
I would love to restore it every inch of that beauty, if I live close to you :) little sanding and sprey it is easy to do c'mon !! @14:41
OHM Racing makes solid products
Gonna be interesting to see what you think of the inverted tie rods. On lowered hondas they suck unless your reeeeeeeeeeally low
That EVO 6 looks like it is going to be strong guys!
Stay safe! Thanks for all the content.
This is lookin pretty sweet. I'm about to get that brake kit too 👍
Man that Evo is almost done!! How long did OHM Racing take on the wiring harness? Month or 2?
The body of that tie rod is deeper because it's aluminum. Have to make up for the softer threads.
Nice! Love the series. Thank's guys.
Stay safe guys 🙋♂️👍 from Ireland
I have used those tie rods, and I'm sure your are going to go back to oem rod ends. The hard race quality is phenomenal, but the behaviour of the car changes in a way were its less predictable on the track, and tbh it induces weird feedback a places were you woulndt excpect to. Sorry for the spelling, from Quebec haahah
Sébastien Pannitti so what other solution to help with bump steer ?
What kind of weight saving did you got with the new harness ? is that including fuxe box ? or only engine harness ?
Should paint the trans to match the engine block!
Loving the High Performance Academy sweat shirt
I noticed you guys never use rotor screws... is it because of all the rust in Canadia? 🤔
Part 14? This is starting to look like a Rocky movie series! :D
Stay safe and healthy!
Fire in the hole! Horsepower in the hole actually.
Anyone else get nervous with DP swinging that strut around that fender? haha
love these videos. Best channel on youtube for sure!!!
Great job boys!
Great video guys, Thanks
This is good, i wish the engune bay is painted😁
Loving the series! ❤️
Just checked ohm racing wiring harness. It's $1,000!!!
I can’t wait to see this go
So wpuld super pro be better then whiteline?
I have a honda accord 1985 model can u tell which suspension i can put into it
Awesome videos always. I anxiously wait to see a new episode pop up and when it does I'm sure it's the same rush meth addicts get when they see a tiger. This and project Binky will cause me withdrawals when complete.
Where’s the FD?
good stuff... keep it up
Where can i get the shims for the struts ? 🤤
I needed this
How's this man getting a shape up with the quarantine?! We need answers!! Haha
Build a focus st
No superpro products for S2000 :(
Anyone else us the stoptech sport slotted rotors and feel brake pedal vibration from the slots? Never had this issue until I swapped to said rotors.
I have the issue on my Touareg because apparently you need to do a periodic hard braking to keep them from building up deposits in the slots.
@@speedacademy thanks pete or dave. Maybe after this quarantine mess is over with, a track day should help rid the problem.
You know... I do respect that we need to have certain safety measures in the US... but damnit.... why don't we get the cool shit here?!?!?
Nice!!
Where is the 2jz bmw?
This will be my furst car
We should let Mitsubishi bring back the EVO
Yes it will beat the Sti Petee Boy
I have a Evo 4 dat I buy an I put it in a ck2 it was front wheel now it's a 4wheel I got a lot of licks I I watch dis from start to finish I wish could do my own de same help me plz an in Trinidad I wish u could come here an bring me back
Not sure how much hear rejection you will get from a thin titanium shim, any specs on that?
Yeah Mate Well, they won’t see any desired results because they’re expecting it to keep down pad temperature when in reality it’s intended to help combat the heat transfer of the pads into the pistons in turn heating up the fluid. How effective these plates will be at doing that job? No idea 🤷♂️
@@TofumanFC3S that's what I thought, surely it's to stop the brake fluid from boiling thanks tofuboy
Finally!!!
Hello everybody
6th like for the evo 6
EVO OVER THE STI ANY DAY BRUH!
Evo > sti...lol
Nice project. Just for the love of god just wash your hands and DO NOT use gloves when in public and make your self a mask....from a fellow car guy and healthcare worker from the states.
Noice!
I sometimes wonder how long these episodes would be without the product placement?
Wooooooo
Let’s go
At least treat the rust with a brush in rust converter like kurust if you don't have the time. These cars don't survive rust very well and you have spent all this time. #listentothe people👂
Sooo the “guy” refurbished recoated and rebuilt your rear calipers... but failed to install new bleeding valves? And kept the old rusty ones? Guys.. I didn’t think of you as ones that are cutting any corners...
Almost 3k on a wiring harness just to blow the motor 10 mins into light dyno pulls. Fucking dumb.
Rust equals no good
Who is waiting m3 build like me 🤣
🙄
We've got another video coming soon but more fixing of issues :( No dyno planned yet.
Feels like this is turning into a series of advertising...
These are getting more and more like a rolling advert, can we have a bit more old school speed academy please
Care to explain what you'd like to see more of?
No really more but less of the stopping to talk about products for 3 minutes it kills the flow of the video, basically every time I see DP with something new in his hand I know to skip a few minutes😆Never felt the need to do that with older build vids. I’m aware you guys need sponsors to make content happen but can’t you get by just saying ‘we fit this because it good, link in the description’? Maybe it’s just me, anyhow keep it up and please build a Lotus😁
