- Watch this video before going out, and buying a new controller, thinking that it's broken, because it won't connect. Unfortunately, I've seen this a bunch of times now, and I decided to put a short video together showing the issue. When in safe mode, you are forced to connect your controller with a USB cable. There are cables out there that are "Charge Only", and will not let you sync the controller to your PS4. Before getting upset, make sure your connectors are clean, and make sure you have a good "Data" USB cable.

I've tried quite literally 30 cables so i don't know how they build a cable that doesn't work for data transfer. In those 30 cables half of them are new out the box
If you've tried that many cables... then you may indeed have a bad USB port in the controller.
But what if it charges with any other cable

You helped me save my PS4 when it wouldn't boot up! I had to try a number of cables in safe mode for my controller before I got lucky and found one that wasn't charge only. After wards the reinstallation process went very smooth!

I would strongly recommend belkin or anker cords that are braided and I tend to find braided cords last alot longer then not non braided cords.
I tend to agree with that. The one I use when I'm normally working at the bench (the white one in the video) is a braided cable.

Idk what im doing wrong but ive tried 5 different cables that used to work before and now just charge the controller. Something wierd is that when i press the button it blinks white for a millisecond and goes back to charging, but nothing happens on the screen. Ive tried this on 3 different controllers so im just guessing its the console (this worked like 2 weeks ago so idk what made it glich out)

Thank you. Thought the PS4 was goosed. I was trying loads of connectors but couldn’t get the controller to connect. Used the cable for my Fire-stick following you’re advice on cables and automatically it worked. Safe mode menu appeared and I was able to update and get rid of the frozen error screen

I don't have many cables available to me and unfortunately I can't pay for new cables right now, so I'm working with what I have for now, and so far none of the different fixes I've tried have worked for me
If they require a specific cable they need to provide it. Spent hours trying to connect a new controller that didn’t come with a cord. Ludacris. The fire stick USB one finally worked.
It's not really a specific cord.... it just needs to be a full USB data cord. And, the one it originally came with did work.
This comment is what made me shoot straight to my Fire Stick after using over 10 random cords. Worked like a charm. Thanks for the comment!
I tried several different usb cables, and on a blog a guy said to change the hdmi port that was connected. I don't know what the relationship is, but it worked perfectly, my controller started working again in safe mode using the same cable that came with the console 8 years ago. I hope it helps

You should be able to plug it into your pc and see it work. If not, there could be an issue with the controller itself.

My controller won't let me use the dpad to navigate or choose anything in safemode except option 7
The the PS4 thinks the OS is corrupt. OR... the harddrive is dead. Either way, you will have to reinstall your OS. (Sorry) you will know quickly if the HHD is dead, as it will hang as it tries to install. You can watch my video on installing a new HDD, and it will walk you through the install process.
I just now got a problem with my USB cable to try and rebuild my database for my PS4 cuz my 2 terabyte hard drive has stopped working but it was working for me yesterday but it just stopped working today so I don't know what to do should i get a new external hard drive or usb cable or a new ps4 cuz this is a first for me
my ps4 randomly just turned off last night the usb port was fine last night I’ve tried so many different cables and different controllers but I’m stuck in safe mode and it says connect the DualShock 4 using the USB cable and then press the PS button. My ps4 has had no issues for ages but now I can’t get it to work

You mostly right. It's in fact the port on the PlayStation that's not receiving data.

I am having thsi problem but i knoe the cord isnt charge only cause i often use it to move my controllers between my playstations and i tried to do a software uodate and when the ps4 restarted it came back in safe mode amd when i tried to plug in my control it charged but it wouldn't turn in while connected tobthe cord

Hey I have a problem, I’m taking out my old ps4 to use it again. However, when I try to update a game for example and leave my ps4 alone the ps4 light turns white and my ps4 controller light is off and when I press the home button it blinks white, and won’t connect. Then I’d have to unplug my power cord from my ps4 and it will work again, but eventually it will turn back off after I stop using it and won’t reconnect unless I unplug the power cord almost as it were freezing. I’m starting to think this is more of a ps4 problem then a controller problem. What should I do?

So as a repair guy did you charge the customer or charge him less because it was an easier fix?
I just charged him for a software reinstall. (30 min labor) In my shop, I generally don't charge for diagnostic, and I told him up front that it was probably just a bad USB cable since I knew the controller was working, and charging before he swapped the hard drive. Thanks for watching.

what if i tried everything? if i tried different joysticks, different cables, to restart joystick everything i have seen but still doesnt work?
You could have a bad USB port.... but that normally isn't the issue.
Can you buy another ps4 charger to get the same results?
I had the data cable, which worked before on the ps4 pro, and worked to transfer data bw phone and computer so I thought foe sure it couldn't be the problem. Tried another data cable (brand new but a duplicate of the first one) and it didn't work. Tried a couple pletely different brand and it worked. Sometimes it can work on everything else but for whatever reason just won't do what you need it to.
Troubleshoot with some other data cables, not all cords are wired the same!!

You could have a damaged port in the controller. but... I would still try to find a new , tight fitting cable, and give it another go.

My ps put itself in safe mode because of something with the system update 11.50 it says I need to download it on a usb and put it in the ps4 but when i try to connect my contorler to click ok it does not connect the same controller with the same wire does connect to mt brothers ps4 what do I need to do to fix this?

Try resetting the controller. But, you may have a bad bluetooth chip in your PS4
What does it mean if your ps4 controller doe not comnect to any devices even through Bluetooth?
The controller itself could have gone bad. But that's not very common.

This didn’t work I tried using a whole bunch of different cables and nothing happened besides it took me to a screen that said to plug in a USB but even when I press the PS button other controller it just keeps blinking
Unfortunately, You may have a dead Bluetooth unit in the PS4. But I would pop the shell open, and make sure the antenna are connected properly, and not shorted some how.

Hello right I have a ps4 Pro.. About 1 year brand new..... Its furiously 🥵 gone Into safe mode today. And I have tried everything possible to fix it and I'm having no luck what so ever and im abso fuming about it..... Please help me... I've tried so many diffrent things I've youtubed so many vidoes and googled diffrent things
I would start with going into safe mode (hold the power button until you hear the second beep) Then, either rebuild the database, or reinstall the software. (You will have to put the OS on a memory stick, as shown in my ps4 HDD video) If that crashes or hangs, then the hard drive has gone bad, and will need to be replaced.
@@PghGameFix I've tried to put the update onto my USB... But the ps4 does say it doesn't support the format or something like that Im so radged about this situation, 🤒I don't know what to do.. I don't know how I'm ment to change the format on my USB

hey recently the new update for ps4 gave me a error code, I wasn't able to connect the controller I tried 5 different controllers and not a single one worked. I eventually got it in safe mode and I plugged the controller into the USB and it blinks but wont connect I tried many different ways and different wires for the USB and still have no luck. I will continue to try different ways but I highly doubt they will work since I cant even connect the controller but, if possible is there any way I could send my ps4 to you so you could take a look at it yourself. I'm young and can't really afford another ps4
That's a new one on me. I know there was a recent update that would have the optical drives fail. Do you remember the error code? I would like to look it up.
I went through 5 cables before I found the right one.
