- As local stations reran the CBS run after its cancellation, it was decided to order new episodes for them, thus reviving the show. Though this fact isn't specifically mentioned, Jack Barry mentions they're introducing a lot of new stations.

I loved watching this and Tic Tac Dough back to back as a kid.
My grandfather, God rest his soul, would watch the joker's wild every night after PM Magazine.
I did myself on Fridays.
Oh the memories of this show. I loved it then and this is such a treat to watch it again.

Both of which were created and produced by Barry/Enright. In my opinion, that team is second only to Goodson/Todman in terms of the quantity and quality of games produced.
Actually, they're equal in quality, but I believe G/T simply produced more shows.
I would watch this with my grandmother. She'd be playing solitaire at the same time. Miss my "Nanny"🙏💕

This was the first of the syndicated run of the “Joker’s Wild” in 1977, and it continued right up until 1986. Jack Barry hosted the show from 1977 until he passed away in 1984, and then it was replaced by Bill Cullen for three years until the show ended in 1986.

LOL Jack Berry could totally not count! He paid that dude $775 instead of $625 in the 2nd round of Face the Devil! I loved this show as a little kid, but I wasn't fast enough with the basic math as a 6 year old to catch that mistake, but I DO remember this episode!
He got an extra $100 because Jack gave him $775 instead of $675. What a deal!
It's amazing how unpolished the presentation is. It was very much livened up in the 2nd syndicated season with the new theme and musical cues.
And more lights.
And the audience was more lively, too.

the Host and creator of the joker's wild Jack Barry in my opinion is one of the three kings of great game show creators, and they are Jack Barry, Mark Goodson, and Merv Griffin!

I think 21 could've been as well if that show had sold in 1982.

The Newlywed Game, which aired on ABC from 1966-1974 also premiered on this day in Syndication, but can be seen on KTLA Channel 5 in Los Angeles at that time.

Used to watch this as a kid before bedtime before i knew about Jeopardy; compared to having to spell world capital names backwards that you've never heard of off the top of your head, these multiple-choice questions are pretty easy.

I loved the Joker’s Wild when Jim Peck and Bill Cullen hosted, but in my opinion the show died when Jack Barry died.

Glenn Nemhauser may have been the winner in this episode but sadly, according to IMDB, this was his only notable appearance on TV or film.
If he has risked the money and won a trip to Africa it may have changed his life so his acting career took off.
I remember this in the afternoons after school, then later on when it aired in the evenings along with Tic Tac Dough. My mom did not care for this show because of the host. She'd lived through the 1958 quiz show scandals and felt Jack Barry should never have been allowed to get back into television. I didn't care though.
Glad they dumped the multiple choice questions after the first few weeks (a holdover from late in the CBS run)...every question had a 2/3 chance of being answered correctly!

I do guess it was the first syndicated episode that was taped at CBS Television City.
The show moved to Chris Craft Studios for the syndicated version.

I sometimes watched this show when I was a kid. I always thought it seemed rigged. Then years later I found out the host was involved with the game show scandal in the 50's.

You can tell they had been out of action for a while - the production in places here was an absolute mess, to the point where I'm surprised Barry was even prepared to put his name to it.

Yes indeed, Jack not only hosted but also produced TV game shows, often with Dan Enright.
I remember commercial breaks where the women used to run on to the stage in just their underwear and tickle each other for two minutes and then run off stage giggling and they would do that every commercial break.
Interestingly enough those segments were directed by Jack Barry himself. They also had the ones where two girls would wrestle in a large vat of jello.
@@blanchelincoln I always thought the bras and panties themselves were edible and that eating them "ON AIR" would have been deemed unacceptable by the viewers, but how could such a tasteful and appropriate display be judged as questionable....it makes no sense.

The guy won $675.00 in second game. Overpaid by $100. Scorekeeper just as inept. Meke Me Laugh and original Gong Show were better show. Jeopardy was King. (and still is)

@@witherblaze I didnt make that comparison just stating my own preference. I think the original poster was saying Ed Sullivan was monotonous and stiff & apparently jack struck them as ??? IDK more energetic or 3 dimensional. Sullivan was in black and white. Jokers was in color. Could play a part.
