I need to learn how digitally customize & resize images the way you do. I'm not overly techy so I just wind up eyeballing & winging it, at the most drawing grid by hand over a printed image. Often I will imagine something out of my head and then freehand it. Been going back and watching your video's from before I discovered your channel, each video is like a fun gift to open.
Thank you Emily! Painting a full room of carpet sounds bold! Are you thinking something graphic or something more solid? I’m super intrigued! Keep me posted!
You're such a talented artist! I love your style. Thank you for such inspirational videos and for showing us that all upcycling proceses are imperfect and we have to be flexible at times. Looking forward to your next video!
Found your channel this week and was a little surprised to see so few views and comments! So just wanted to say thank you for the well made, inspiring, instructional and entertaining videos. Keep up the good work. R
Hey there! I’m so happy you found me and that you’re enjoying my content! I try to stay true to the projects that I really believe in… which isn’t always the best way to play the RUclips algorithm and get views 😂 So feel free to share my channel with anyone you think would love it too! Glad you have you here ❤️
I love that thought! Definitely depends on the type of rug. More plushy rugs are tough since they become super stiff with paint. But low pile rugs and natural fibers like jute are perfect for painting since they are already pretty stiff. You could also experiment with mixing your paint with a fabric medium to soften it. I do this all the time on fabric but have never tried it on a rug. Let me know how it goes!
AMWESOME!!!! I'm going to do the same in my 37 ft 5th wheel. I kept thinking this could be done due to the paint chemistry. Wondering about adding a softener for fabrics? Anyway, THANKS!
You used latex paint and not fabric paint. How does that wear and what do the rug feel like? I found this very soft white bathmat at IKEA that I'd love to paint with from grays and yellow. Since the rug is very soft, I'm not sure what kind of paint to use. What would you recommend? Thanks and your work is really, really, well done (as are the videos). Thanks in advance!
Hey thanks Peter! I have used latex paint on rugs in the past and had them hold up fairly well! When I paint fabric (like clothes) I usually mix acrylics with a textile medium that essentially turns the paint into fabric paint. However there is a still some stiffness when the paint dries since it bonds the fibers together. For your bath mat, I might recommend painting with dye since it allows the fabric to maintain its original texture. I used this technique in my Yeezy Gap jacket video. Depends on the design you’re going for… but I think you wanna keep that bath mat nice and soft!
Bonjour de France ! Je vais peindre de façon géométrique sur un paillasson comme vous l'avez si bien fait ❤ et l'offrir à mon fils pour son appartement. Bravo !❤
Looks great! You have inspired me to do something with plain beige carpet. Can you please tell me what kind of tape did you use that sticks to the carpet? Thanks
Hey there! I used blue painter’s tape! Should stick well enough to help you out without leaving any residue on the carpet. I’d still advise using a small brush and detailing along the edges since it might bleed a little under the tape - if you want clean lines! Let me know how it goes 🙌🏻👍🏻
Hey Dana! I hope you can save your rug! It has kind of a furry high like texture? That might be kind of tricky because you don’t want it to become too stiff! I might suggest either watering down your paint a lot or experimenting with dye. I painted with dye on my GAP/Yeezy/Balenciaga denim jacket (check out that video for reference) and I think that might work for your abstract paintings - it might keep the rug softer than with paint! Just a thought…
I don’t have a video for that rug unfortunately 😭 But I used the same grid technique that I used in this video… just with a smaller brush and more detail 👍🏻
I bought a wool rug this weekend which is much too plain. Truthfully, i have a similar affliction for personalising my stuff. Your results are really impressive!! My results usually yell … “a practise one first would have been a good idea!” Could you add your thoughts about the types of paints to use, please? Were they all acrylic paints? Someone in the comments did mention fabric paints? Any thoughts on materials to help with cleaning and maintenance of newly painted rugs? I did hear you mention latex for your kitchen rug and standard interior household emulsions for the door matt? A list of materials with suggestions, brush ideas and recommendations in the description would be wonderful. I really do appreciate your attention to detail and top aesthetic. ⭐️ Also see a great opportunity for materials sponsorship. Not because i have any products to sponsor but in addition to my customisation gene I seem to need a huge range of materials, which i love trying out, and usually cost a fortune! I,m also one of those RUclipsrs who follows the links to buy the products … if i am tempted by them. Did the 1” daubing brush survive? Good job on both rugs 👏 #RUGpainting #genius
Hey Jan! Thanks so much for watching and sharing your thoughts! Yeah for my rugs, I went with latex paints this time since the colors will match my house paint and because I find that quality acrylics that I use for painting on canvas and leather would be kinda expensive when covering large areas like this. I wasn’t super worried about keeping the rugs soft in this video since they were both quite rough to begin with. And the old wood grain rug I mentioned in the video was a cheap acrylic rug… so similar situation. However, if you’re painting a wool rug, I would definitely consider either watering down your paint a lot, using a fabric paint, adding a textile medium to your chosen paint (I’ve done this on fabric), or some combination of these techniques. I’ve also seen people add fabric softener to their paint when painting rugs… I haven’t tested that myself. I think it just depends on the specificity of color and price point you want. I would avoid using craft paint since the colors often down have too much pigmentation to start and can fade easily. And yes, I’m definitely wanting to move into sponsorship and testing products here on YT! But right now, I’m just trying to balance all the projects for my house with everything else in my life haha.
You said you have to customize everything. I am the same way and I once read it's because I was born in the Chinese year of the goat and this is a trait of people who are goats. So check and see if you were born in a goat year!
A moiré would be the LAST thing I would think of for a pattern on that rug, but WOW, it worked out, especially against that checkerboard floor. Also thanks for the tip of not diluting the paint until you get it onto the rug, that is so much easier and easy to get a hard crisp edge. Not even ONE of your DYI's is a stupid idea, they are all ingenious. YOU really should be number #1. Alas, the ones with the fake and obnoxious personalities seem to be. You MAY be a little harder to follow for some people? Thanks.
I like Your Think out side of the Box Talent and Creativity. YOU saved me a Ton of $$$$. I was ready to Throw away 4 Area Rugs. Beautiful 👍
Aw thanks! I’m glad you found this and can save your rugs!
If you dilute you're paint with fabric softener... Its easily absorbed by fabrics and blends seamlessly by touch...
Love the idea!🤘
So Glad I found another creative soul !😍
Thanks Dina! Glad you found me! Thanks for watching!
Love love love the painted wood grain on jute rug. It’s organic, a lil abstract but still looks like wood grain…chefs kiss!
Thank you! I love how it ended up working with all the natural wood in my kitchen… ties together but gives more of a modern edge!
I’m beyond impressed with your creativity. Great job
Great! I really like how the Jute rug came out. Congratulations! Painting mine. It’s discolored. Thank You.
First time to see you. Obsessed. I was going to bed, but I guess now I’m painting. Yeeeeaahhh!
Haha I love it! Enjoy your painting!
I paint rugs all of the time and I'm addicted to it. So fun!!
That’s awesome Mandy! I love it too 🙌🏻
Hi hope you will doing good...what colour do you use normally for carpet painting.
Those turned out so well! I'm especially partial to the geometric abstract door mat. Beautiful.
Thanks so much! 😊
Astonishing!! I coudn't imagine how it torned out in the end!
It was definitely a big transformation! Thanks for watching!
Love the geometric pattern ❤️😊
Just found your channel and I'm obsessed with this rug! Love your style!
Thanks Hayley! So glad you found me! Happy to have you here ❤️
Your completed house is going to look so incredible!
Thanks Jo! It may take awhile… but I think it’s gonna be a huge transformation!
I really love these! great job! I spray painted the fibre mat that came with the house and it's held up pretty well over the last 2.5 years
Thanks Kelsey! Yeah painted rugs can last awhile!

Love them both
That doormat looks amazing!
Thank you so much!
I'm going to try that.
Yay! Let me know how it goes!
Wow. So creative!
Those rugs turned out beautifully! I’m wrestling with the idea of painting bits of our wall to wall carpet, which is how I found your video.
Thank you Emily! Painting a full room of carpet sounds bold! Are you thinking something graphic or something more solid? I’m super intrigued! Keep me posted!

I find your videos sooo inspiring. Your channel deserves every like and sub💫
Aw thank you so much Jan! I’m so happy to have you here! I really appreciate you watching and leaving such a happy thought ❤️
Your videos are great 😊
The doormat looks so good. This is making me wonder whether I can just slap a coat of paint on my huge living room rug instead of throwing it out

Doormat slay the house down boots...interior mat...looking to start a fire...i think its combustible.

@@REISSUED Thank you very much
I so totally get that desire to customise/do everything on your own because you can't find what you're looking for!!
😅
Hi Andrew! Can you tell me what computer program you used to lay out that grid? I am loving exploring your videos!!
Hey there! I tend to do everything in Keynote - the Apple equivalent to PowerPoint. I just find it quick and user friendly to move stuff around 🙌🏻
Great video can I paint a fury rug I do abstract paintings. I almost threw it away and I thought maybe I can paint it. Any tips?

Curious If You Have A Video For The Older Grey + White Rug You Did? Love This Btw 🤍
I don’t have a video for that rug unfortunately 😭 But I used the same grid technique that I used in this video… just with a smaller brush and more detail 👍🏻
What paint do you use? I loved your video, thank you ❤
Das sieht so toll aus und ich liebe die Farbzusammenstellung. Würde sich auch gut in meinem Zuhause machen 😂❤
Is the rug washable after?
I have done some spot cleaning and vacuuming on it post painting!

Can I use normal paint for Walls?😊
And you are so cute x
Haha thanks 😜

Haha I’ll check and see!
Is that oil paint?
I think Andrew may have said 'latex'. I believe most paint he used was wall paint. Oil can take quite a long time to dry.
But what will you do when you need to wash it
