Was thinking that too! Maybe hang on wall as part of decor until need to use. Reason thought of this is because have excessive vintage cast iron trivets which love but honestly don’t need that many so became decor. Love all the repurpose of items, do as much as can but have a small two bedroom house with husband’s hobbies(hunt/fish/reload) that take over. Need my own shack but other hobbies of garden/chicken take up 1/3 of yard. But hey need these to be sane! Keep giving 💡, will figure it out😂
Art Deco and M. C. Escher... two of my favorite things! Mixing some orange with the blue paint will desaturate it to a color you might like better. A great use of those Hobby Lobby wood frames!
Hey Diane! I thought the same thing with mixing orange and blue which is part of why I bought these colors… but it ended up looking very purple! I guess the heavy red content in the orange shade made it shift to a more purple tone
Your projects are so inspiring, I wish I could do half of the projects you do. For the paint keep a bottle of white and black. Mix in a little of the black with your paint for a darker/mirkier look. Use white if you want a more pastel or lighter look. Hope that helps. Thanks for the inspiration!
Your folks are stars Andrew, interested to see how the painted tile stands up to the heat, I love that design, meant in the nicest possible way, it reminds me of some of the art work in 'Samurai Jack', and those vintage tiles are stunning, I'm so happy for you that you found a use for them. And the penny tile one, cutting the tiles to fit was the best call in my opinion, it would have looked amateurish if you had left the gap. Something to file away for future reference, I have a trivet made from wine corks laid on their sides and glued into a frame.
Practical and creative DIY projects are always awesome! Bummer about the face tile cracking, but I really appreciate you being open about it. Transparency is key! Looking forward to the kitchen refresh video.
Nice group of trivets Andrew. Do you have a hobby size air brush? You could use painter's tape to mask the surface, exacto cut and air brush them for a more uniform finish possibly. (I'm thinking of the blue/white tiles maybe the orange/brown as well) Cheers. P.S. A hobby air brush would really come in handy on the myriad of projects you engage in. IMHO
The patterned tiles from the restore look like they are inlays from the Lane Cosmopolitan line. Excellent MCM find (the Cosmopolitan line is quite expensive)!
These look great and what a good way to use up these frames and old tiles. I have used some small white tiles I had lying around for coasters, just added some felt to the bottom of them. Did try and paint them but I wasn't very good at it 🙈 I recently bought 2 lovely larger brown speckled tiles from the Restore for 10p each (~13cents). They have one rounded edge so left them as is, popped some felt on the bottom, and have them in my kitchen. One as a trivet and the other on the windowsill with my washing up liquid bottle and hand soap bottle on it. 🤎
Another awesome project from you and your parents. Although I had trouble watching your dad cut those tiny round tiles with the wet saw. I was watching with squinted eyes and holding my breath. I don’t know anything about tools but I can only assume that if it could cut through tiles it could cut through fingers and hands?! I also think that should the worst had happened you wouldn’t have shown it but it still made me nervous to watch 😂
Yeah I was nervous watching too! But apparently the blade is not actually sharp and grinds the tile to cut it… so my dad actually touched the blade to show that it’s not actually that dangerous! Of course I wouldn’t just stick run my finger through there… but it’s not as scary as it looks!
@@REISSUED I am glad to know that. After posting my comment and thinking about it later I realised that whilst you may not spell it out, you and your parents have always used and or worn safety gear so I probably should have realised that it must’ve been safe to do so.
I think that using large rectangular Hobby Lobby art frame to create trays could work! Using small mozaic on the bottom, keeping the edges quite high and even adding handles on the side to carry the tray. Perfect for a teacup and snacks, or a plate and a glass.
Loved the 3d in blue at the start but still watching . Appreciate the honesty when things don’t work out like with the face tile. She’s a beauty and you’ll find another way to bring her to life. Aaah my friend, such beautiful results! I was really digging the blue 3d tiles but maybe they didn’t look as good to you in person? Nevertheless, another inspirational video. Thank you ❤
this is such an approachable project that even i think i can do! i do admin for an architecture firm and we always have extra and leftover tile samples we get rid of. (i totally got given one of those inspirational signs as a gift that i donated lol) Ps - had to google what trivet was, so now i know! :D Ps Ps - the hand painted one is my fav :D
Maybe some kind of primer or sealer on the brown tiles to make the surface less absorbtive? (Is that a word??) Anyway, as usual I love this project. You do the most interesting videos.
When you buy paint, ANY paint, get a black and a white. They can be mixed together to lighten, darken, or „ murk up“ any color. I think in your case I’d have added a bit of orange to the blue, to see what happens. Although it might not have worked well with that paint (as it dried very quickly), usually there’s some base (paint thinner, denatured alcohol, linseed oil) which can be added to thin the paint a tad.
For future reference: you could literally desaturate paint, ESPECIALLY complimentary colors, by mixing them with each other. i e add a little orange to desaturate the blue and vice versa
Am I missing something? If you put a hot pan down that’s slightly larger than the tile, won’t it burn the wood frame? I love the way they look and I am thinking about making some, but I wonder if that ends up being a problem when you go to use them?
7 min in and i still dk what trivets are xD the face tile could have definitely been glued back together tho very pretty. could also be used to cast a copy out of some type polymer clay or smn

Your dad's fingers so close to the blade gave me anxiety! That said, the Harper family strikes again! Loved this!
Great housewarming gifts
I love this channel.
All are wall worthy. Just fab my friend.
Love from Canada
Thanks William!

What a fun and inexpensive project with a super lux look!! Love the handmade and vintage quality!! They are totally your style!!
Thanks so much! ❤️
What an awesome idea with the tiles. I'd definitely buy them. 😊
Aw thanks!

@@REISSUED Interesting. Adding green would tone down the red hues but that might muddy it up too much. Experiment!

Love them all.....great job!!!!!

It's so comforting to watch you and I love that your Dad chips in and helps. Beautiful results 💚
I wish you could post everyday I'm always so excited to see what your going to come up with next.
I wish I could too! I just need a full time editor 😘

Good idea! I even think that making a stencil and stamping them would create a better finish… I just didn’t have the time to cut a stencil this time.

That’s awesome! Thanks for the info!
i love the idea and the finished product of these!

Great idea! Very smart to have it under the soap to catch any drips!
Use cut or smashed pieces of tiles and make mosaics in those frames.
A great project, which would also be terrific as housewarming or Christmas gifts.
So cute!
Love how these came out. Great projects👏🏻👏🏻🌸🌸
Thanks Anne!
So happy I found your channel! ❤your projects and your delivery!
Thanks Diane! I’m so glad you found me too! Thanks for watching ❤️

I love the set of three, the rectangular pattern is so striking. I hope your parents got one!
Framing tiles to use as trivets is something that never occurred to me! My trivets are just old square tiles I found.
Clever amd useful project. I like the style you have for your home. It's different and refreshing.
Yes! I did a similar project with white penny tile and a wood cigar box lid. 😃
I like how yours turned out!
Love them all but the one you painted I love the best..if I saw that in a store I would buy it…..
I love those vintage rectangular tiles. I’ve got some old tiles and I was thinking to do something similar. Great video as always ❤❤❤
Yay! I hope you make some trivets and let me know how it goes ❤️
Love these, great job!
Thanks Debby!
What if you use an etching paste to make the design then go in with an enamel paint or stain? Idk if it’ll work, but that’s what I would try.
Interesting idea!

Giving you props for trying to use the livingroom tiles. :) They turned out beautifully!

I like the blue tiles ok! I think with some finesse and a different shade of blue they would have been great. Thanks for watching!
They turned out amazing! ❤
(You could even do a series and sell them along with your painting/artwork!)
Cute! ❤ I want to try this
Hey Gabby! Do it! And let me know how it goes ❤️

Good thought! I think it actually worked out ok and helped the paint really bond to the tiles.

Haha seriously
🌟💛🙂👍🙏
Great projects Andrew! Out of curiosity, what’s your astrological sign?
Libra! Birthday coming up next month!
Isn’t it great to work with and learn from your Dad?
