This whole video felt like a friend made it specifically for me to show me through the process and I mean that in the best way possible. Amazing video, thank you!

the way youve broken done everything is so much less scary! been punch needling for a bit and moving on to tufting and this is giving me more hope as a new tufter!
Wow! This was literally the most helpful video all in one that I have watched. I have been trying to tuft for four months now and it never turns out right! Turns out the scissors on my tufting gun are not closing at all, my fabric isn't right and I am only using one strand of yarn in my tufting gun.. Thank you so much for this video! Your rug looks amazing!
All the repair parts can be ordered quickly and cheaply from the factory in Shandong, China. They are very knowledgeable and helpful and can tell you what to anticipate as far as maintenance and even a few improvements! Thanks for a great video. That was a lot of fun and made me want to get a gun to make rugs for my grandkids and maybe try my hand at turning child’s crayon pictures into custom rugs for their room. I used to lay/repair carpet and there is a heavier pro gun that is not nearly so much fun to use. But at those shops you can find special carpet knap scissors that give perfectly level cuts when you find minor imperfections. Also, in the 70’s we used gunny sacks from the local feed store to make rug patches for professional carpet repairs. It holds up and stretches roughly the same as the jute backing on most carpets.

Ok, so the "embroidery fabric" you were looking at is called Aida, and it was created & is used specifically for cross-stitch. Hand-embroidery is traditionally done on linen (or any even-weave fabric). Traditional hooked rugs are also done on a variety of evenweave fabrics, including monk's cloth, linen, burlap, or rug warp. I assume a rug tufting gun would also work on those fabrics, typically at 12 or 13 thread count. Just don't try to use *aida* for anything but cross-stitch. It's a weird, stiff fabric!
@Shop Last. I've been doing more rug hooking since posting this comment & learned some new stuff that made me think of what I said & worry if it was correct! Monk's cloth is similar to Aida in that it's a "basketweave" fabric, and Monk's cloth IS used for rugs! But looking at the video again, I'm still sure that was Aida. Monk's cloth looks similar, but wouldn't be so stiff. I think the one you called "Monk's cloth" in this video might have actually been "Rug Warp"? But I'm still not an expert on fabrics & every time I learn something new, I realize how many times I've been wrong! The white lines are a feature you'll see on Monk's cloth frequently, but it seemed to be single threads woven, instead of a 3x3 pattern like with monk's cloth and aida 🤔
Love your result! Very inspiring and now I am asking myself how much did this entire project cost? Gun and frame including . BTW great channel! Best regards from Berlin!
Such a helpful video mate! Got my rug gun coming this Friday and was a little nervous for diving right into it but now I feel I’m ready!! You’re the man!
This is so nice! Although I have a really big frame, I have yet to brave a really but rug. I might try to make one. Also, I keep forgetting to mirror my image when I transfer it onto the fabric. Lol
I’ll let you in on a secret! I forgot to mirror mine too😂 and going big is a commitment, but I just did it for a few hours everyday and and that worked for me! :)
your a genius, the only thing that would make it better would be a closer view and different aways of transfering the design to the fabrics.great job mate
This video was amazingly helpful, informative, and fun to watch. usually I always fast forward but I watched the whole thing! Thank you so much for taking the time out to make this for us. I've had my tufting kit in the box for months and I've been daunted to start. The only thing I don't have are the sheep shearshehehehrworchestershire's so I was wondering if clippers would work as I've seen in other videos? I also don't have those either LOL but they'd be way cheaper as I'm completely new to this. anyways thank you again!!!!
Wow that you so much!! I’m glad the video was useful for you!:) I think clippers can work, but they were much more difficult to use that the sheerers. But if the sheerers are going to be something that hold you back from making one I would say just use what ever you can get:)
This really help me out because yesterday actually making my first rug and it really didn’t go good it was to the point that I was a little discouraged to try again but with this video it gave me a little bit more willpower to try again:)
You’re so talented! The carpet is gorgeous! I hope I can ask, how much time does something this size take to make by hand and how many rolls of yarn do you go through for a project this size? No doubt your cat loves the carpet! 💕 Awesome video!
Thank you so much! Of course you can ask! I'll always encourage questions on this channel! This rug took me probably 15 hours to do. That being said, I did it wrong for like 85% of it by only using one source of yarn at a time. I bet I could remake this rug in probably under 5 hours. I think I used a total of like 8-10 rolls of yarn for this one!
@@shop_last It’s a pretty moderately large carpet, so 15 hours might be nice! The first of any projects always takes a bit more time, no doubt, but who’s in a rush? It’s helpful knowing how much time it takes through a project this size, to see the end of the road, so we don’t give up midway & get discouraged thinking we’ll never finish it. Stay Brave Tufters! 💪Keep on Tufting! 😊
Just make sure the 'Monks Cloth' you're buying is for tufting! Monks Cloth from a craft store (Michael's/Joann's) can be more rigid and more susceptible to ripping than true tufting fabric!
Thank you Andrew!! That is so kind of you! I’m glad you felt inspired! You should definitely give it a shot, it’s a lot of fun once you know how to do it right😂
First of all let me just say....THIS RUG LOOKS AMAZING! Its so mosaic and artistic in all the ways I am missing in my life right now. I wish you were my neighbor I would bug you all the time! Im officially inspired ! thank you soo much!!!!!
Great video and rug is amazing!🤯🤯🤯 I just ran across the tufting machine and omg another expense for me but I’m so in love!Appreciate you sharing all of your hard work!💜💜💜💜
It has held up very well! They only this that's not perfect is having a cat that likes to tear it up lol! But i just use the sheerer's and clean it back up haha!
This is really awesome and helpful! I was thinking about getting into tufting myself and this is a huge help. Could you link the original art/artist? Super curious about it since the design is awesome.
Thank you so much!! I am so glad to hear that! I am the original artist☺️ I based the design off of a photo of a sculpture that I learned about in college:) I’d be happy to send it to you if you want to use it:)
Thank you for this amazing video. I feel so much more confident to start my first project! One more question: What is the estimated amount of yarn per square meter? Is there any kind of calculation based on the yarn thickness? Thank you so much!
Your video is really inspiring and I would love to get involved in tufting rugs. In my country here is no such technology or materials for this art . Could you tell me exactly what time does it take to tuft one square? and which is the best yarn to use?
This whole video felt like a friend made it specifically for me to show me through the process and I mean that in the best way possible. Amazing video, thank you!

@@WaffleStaffel it kind of advances itself but it does require a little bit of guidance on your part. It’s a little bit of both I’d say.
@@shop_last Thank you!
This looks like you had fun doing it. Glad it turned out so well.
It was a lot of fun! Thank you!
Loved your voice over! lol
I’m glad you enjoyed it😂
Not sure why this was a recommended video but it was so satisfying to watch. Super cool piece you made!
Ha thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed it:)
Just make sure the 'Monks Cloth' you're buying is for tufting! Monks Cloth from a craft store (Michael's/Joann's) can be more rigid and more susceptible to ripping than true tufting fabric!
Very true! Thank you for clarifying that👍🏼
This is the BEST rug tutorial ive seen!!!
Thank you so much!! I’m glad to hear that it was useful!:)
Great videos as always! Always inspiring me to learn a new skill! Great result too!
Thank you Andrew!! That is so kind of you! I’m glad you felt inspired! You should definitely give it a shot, it’s a lot of fun once you know how to do it right😂
So helpful and well done. Very cool rug and very helpful video. Also the bit where you overdubbed was hilarious.
nice big piece of work!!!!
may i know what is the material of the clothes?
I think it’s cotton? But it’s just called monks cloth 👍🏼
First of all let me just say....THIS RUG LOOKS AMAZING! Its so mosaic and artistic in all the ways I am missing in my life right now. I wish you were my neighbor I would bug you all the time! Im officially inspired ! thank you soo much!!!!!
wow thank you so so much!! I really appreciate it!!
Incredibly talented and inspiring. I’m learning to sew and hope to learn this skill as well. Great channel ☀️💛
That’s great! And thank you so much! I appreciate it!
Beautiful you just made my day ❤️
Great video and rug is amazing!🤯🤯🤯 I just ran across the tufting machine and omg another expense for me but I’m so in love!Appreciate you sharing all of your hard work!💜💜💜💜
I'm curious how well has the rug held up since you made it?
It has held up very well! They only this that's not perfect is having a cat that likes to tear it up lol! But i just use the sheerer's and clean it back up haha!
Stunning, this rug looks like a million bucks 😊😊😊
Thank you so much!
It's amazing! May I know what kind of fabric you use for the back of the rug?
It used cotton. But I only used that material because it had the rubber beads on it to keep it from slipping
Hi ! Very nice video, what kind of yarn do you use?
Great video, very educative content, just one question! How long did it take you to make this masterpiece?
It took me around 15 hours. But now that I know the right way I could probably do it in under 5.
Only on the explanation of the gun and im already grateful I found this video. really well explained so far :D
Thank you so much!:)
Amazing! gained tons of knowledge thank you very much. May I ask how long did this rug take to complete?
Thank you! I spent 15 hours on this one but now could probably do it in under 5 hours. Plus the glue dry times
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS. NOBODY EVER EXPLAINS HOW TO DO IT. BTW YOU HAVE BEAUTIFUL PLANTS.
You’re welcome! And thank you so much!:) they are my babies😋
@@shop_last That'd be awesome! ^_^ I imagine I'm not the only one who'd be interested in it tbh
Me too 🙌🙏🏻🖤
thank you so much for this video!!! i even took notes for when i start making my rugs, im kinda nervous but this help me a lot, thanks again!!!
I believe in you!!! Thanks for the comment!
Thank you for this amazing video. I feel so much more confident to start my first project! One more question: What is the estimated amount of yarn per square meter? Is there any kind of calculation based on the yarn thickness? Thank you so much!
I love to hear it! I did not to that math honestly:/ but that would be good to know! Maybe ill do that for the next one!
SExiest vid ive seen all week....can't wait to get started !
Thank you! Love to hear it!
Very inspired from this video to try and make my own rugs, this piece is so damn awesome! Btw, what kind of fabric did you use, thank you. 🙏🏼
Thank you so much!! I appreciate the comment:)
I used monks cloth👍🏼
As I was watching you assemble the Frame I said to myself that would make a great room divider.
Totally!
The rug looks amazing! Could you link me the picture that you used I wanna make one for myself! Thanks.
I designed this one myself:) but I’d be more than happy to send you the image if you want to reach out to me on Instagram! @shop_last. 👍🏼
@Abdalla, do you have the design?
The whole video was very informative. I like the explanations about the tools. Thanks for this!
Your video is really inspiring and I would love to get involved in tufting rugs. In my country here is no such technology or materials for this art . Could you tell me exactly what time does it take to tuft one square? and which is the best yarn to use?
That's hard to say. Depends on the speed you're comfortable with.
Wool is better quality but acrylic is much cheaper
Put scrap foam along the tack strips to cover the stabby things. Easy to remove when you need to put the cloth up and then you can add it back after.
