I absolutely love how this is 6+ days instead of straight into totoro and that you show your trials and errors instead of making it look so easy. You make it look achievable as long as the person is willing to put in the work not that "Its so easy. If you don't get it the first time then there's something wrong with you."
The type of fabric makes a huge difference in your punch needle experience! A really tight woven fabric doesn't leave a lot of room for the needle to punch through. Also the angle is inportant. The needle should be straight up and down. You did an excellent job with what you did! Also, there are special hoops you can get that really can lock the fabric in place so the fabric doesn't slip. I'm inspired and totally going to do something on a tote now too!
Okay, so some tips: • Leave your project loomed until you're COMPLETELY done, including gluing. • Don't try to trim until you've glued because you risk pulling out yarn. • An electric razor is going to be infinitely easier and bat for your hand health than trying to cut every loop with those huge chunky scissors. If you like the look, do try latch hook at some point! You have much more control, but it does take forever.
@@RCakr something you can do if you are having issues with an electric razor, is cut the loops with scissors initially, and then go back over it with the electric razor for a more even cut. This makes the razor not have to work as hard to cut through the loops in the yarn and can provide a more uniform cut
If a razor doesn't work, then using small precision scissors can atleast give you more control. The chonky ones she was using make it quite hard to cut neatly in my experience.
Is it possible to do this kind of punch needling on clothing that would be washed in a washing machine? I'd love to try it on a sweatshirt for my toddler... but sooner or later it would have to be washed.
I bought a punch needle around 4 yrs ago and it’s still in its original packaging. RUclips suggesting this video to me is a sign. And even better, I know what to expect: not perfection during the first go ❤
I love the honesty of this! I’ve also realized a lot of crafts look easier on social media than they actually are - I took up knitting in 2021 and I remember it taking me months to actually feel like I was smoothly knitting without frustration and lots of mistakes. On top of that, it takes even more weeks/months of course to get to actual finished wearable garments. The short videos can make it seem so quick and easy to pick up, so I appreciate you being honest about how long it took you! Tbh I thought punch needling looked easy haha but this sets up realistic expectations. I would love to see more realistic learning how to do XYZ videos from you :)
I'm so glad you enjoyed the video haha. There's nothing wrong with the ~aesthetic~ videos, but for newbies like me the crafts really do tend to be harder than they look haha. And I'm definitely planning to make more of this type of video in the future! 😊
Well, social media mostly show you a good part. Like the best outcome u can get. It doesn't show the amount of time u cursed at yourself because u keep doing the same fucking mistake, the amount of time u tried to do something decent and it did not work and u just want to scream because of it. But thats literally how you learn; by doing an okay thing first and gradually learn from your mistakes. Don't let social media fools you. Try, do mistakes, do better.
Try machine knitting - it's fun and you get garments to wear that don't take weeks to make. Best of all, because stitch making is much faster you feel freer to create your own designs.
OMG this Totoro is so adorable!! Also, here's a tip for any hobby you need to draw on fabric: you can use a frixion pen, and make it dissapear with an iron when you are done.
Hello ! Nice job ! I like your Totoro ! If I can give you a few tips : - "match" the yarn thickness with the fabric hole size (if you use a canva with big holes it's better with thick yarn / small holes -> smaller yarn). Also, make sure your fabric is really tight (almost like a drum). - your needle needs to be straight (90° angle with the fabric), and the hole the needle should face towards the direction you are going. - push the needle as far as you can go (the plastic part after the needle should touch the fabric), then when you go to make another loop try to keep the needle as close to the fabric as possible (in the video I can see you pull it sometimes too far and that causes the loop to be pulled from your canva). - when trimming the loops: use thiner scissors so you can be more precise I hope this helps (and that me English was understandable because I am not an English speaker) :) Good luck with your other projects but with what I've seen here I am sure you will do wonderful things :)
Really appreciate you showing your own growth a progress of trying a new hobby. For all us out here that get upset when we aren’t instantly good at something.
I don't even like punch needle designs but still watched all the video because learning from previous projects is priceless. You described exactly what each mistake taught you and the result was a great quality video. Wish yt had more like these.
So glad I randomly came across this video! I bought a punch needle last month and I had so much trouble with the stitches coming out that I gave up and kept it aside. Your video makes me want to give it another shot so thanks!! 🥰
I never really comment anything on youtube videos but this video made me cry. I was into punch needling earlier this year, but I stopped after upgrading to a punch needle that can be resized. I originally got a starter kit that came with a fixed-size punch needle, and for some reason, the new one just doesn't work. The yarn won't stay in place, and I didn't have anyone to ask for help. Plus, being a student, I couldn't really afford to buy more yarn just to experiment, so I ended up quitting. Watching you and seeing how it is normal to struggle a little at first really motivates me to start punch needling again, Thank you for this video you gain a smol little subscriber
I LOVE your attitude about the process. I tend to troubleshoot just like you did, but I tend to beat myself up for the mistakes or for not being better than I am right out the gate. This was so inspiring. Thank you for sharing. I am less scared to start a project I have been putting off.

This is such a helpful video to a viewer because you included the little mistakes and things you learned throughout the process. I have always wanted to pick up this craft, and after watching this video I think I might!

Aww thank you so much! It really means a lot to me that people enjoy watching my videos :)
This was such a fun video to watch and I learned so much from you. Your tote bags turned out so adorable. It was really helpful watching your journey in learning how to punch needle.
the crying hello kitty was kinda funny 😂😂 i really wanna learn punch needling now i didn't even know about it before 😍 as someone who like textures i might like this. Also, I think hair cutting scissors would be much better because they're long/slim and pointy.
I love your positivity throughout the attempts!
oh my GODDD it looks adorable
Wow this was such a great video! I just recently bought a punch needle to work with. I haven't used it yet and I learned so much from your experience that I wasn't aware of. So thank you! Now I have a better understanding of how to approach the whole thing. I also didn't realize a smaller weight yarn is better. I can't wait to try it now.
Wow ❤ Totoro looks super duper cute & fluffy. I'll surely gonna try this.
You should try crocheting next!! It’s super fun and easy. I loved this video ❤

Its relieving to see how you share your failed attempts as well❤ Looks great❤🎉 Cant wait to try myself
Wow your progress made me happy. Now I want to try this new hobby
