    ABOUT THIS EPISODE

    This is the epitome of making it "your own". There is a paint called DIY that is clay based and it literally dyes the fabric, leather, wool, velvet, whatever and it just needs to be very watered down. Colors are gorgeous. You, my dear, did a MAGNIFICENT job of using what you have. It is amazing, bright, maximalist, - just like you!! Keep up the great work!

      The key is lots of fabric softener/water and sanding! I’ll be honest, I was impatient and my fabric softener ran out, so I threw caution to the wind because I didn’t know if it would work at all. And I only did one coat of the color (again, impatience). So I didn’t sand the top coat. It’s stiffer because of that.

      Lots of fabric softener and sanding in between coats!!!! Other people have some great tutorials. For me, once I ran out of fabric softener, my doubt and impatience made me throw cushion to the wind, so it is definitely stiffer than it could have been.

      I meant to mention on camera that the colors look soooo bold on camera. I couldn’t get the color correction well. The yellow/orange really overpowers on screen but in real life it’s a little more subdued.

    Have to say, I kind of doubted this would work, was worried for your peacock. But the peacock's life is now sunny. And the rug will probably get less crispy over time ... wonder if combing the pile when you need some mindfulness would help ;-)

    Looks great. But I’m wondering (hoping) that they make some paint that one can use that still leaves your carpet reasonably soft to the bare foot or when you lay on it - not too harsh finish. You’ve taught me the techniques well though, thank you. Especially the massaging in bit. And thinning it enough so it seeps in . Never would have thought of fabric softener.

    • @LaughCryDIY
      @LaughCryDIY  Год назад +1

      I hear there are some more specific fabric dyes, which surely work better. But it’s an idea for now.

    I have a low pile rug that's beige. It doesn't have any pictures or pattern on it. It's just all one color. I'd like to make it more of a bluish gray. Would you use the white on it first and then put color or just go straight for the color? The color I'm wanting to go to would be a little darker than the existing color, if that makes sense.

    • @LaughCryDIY
      @LaughCryDIY  Год назад

      I would just go straight on, BUT if you’re just doing one color and not doing a specific pattern like I did, I would use this technique www.ritdye.com/2016/02/18/sweet-paul-overdyed-rug/.

      2) I used behr paint. However, my viewers highly recommend this clay-based paint from diypaint.co/collections/diy-paint, which you can water down. If I did it again, I would use something like that.
