    Hats off to those boys. They were set a quite unfair challenge here, and carried it out while still smiling. That's one dangerous, dirty and tough job there, for which they hardly had any tools at hand. I was kinda expecting Mike Rowe from TV turning up to say "Even I said no to this one!".

      Do not worry, capital in the West is efficient and will exploit everyone. Fair Labor Standards Act, which governs child labor, makes exceptions to child labor laws for small farms and allows hires as young as 12 for larger ones.

    Respect for what they did under difficult conditions even if they did chip a corner off of one of the new linings. One thing I believe was wrong.
    I have never known of new linings to be fitted without being bonded in place by epoxy or such like and I was trained as a heavy plant fitter 54 years ago.
    Maybe they consider it a waste of time on those machines with in the field repairs but it is why the previous set broke up in pieces.
    I was shocked how young they were but then again I started just after my 15th birthday and we didn't have state of the art tools in the UK then either.

    • @caddyrack

      In the USA and Canada many pick up trucks and taxi cab used a riveted set of brake shoes. We called them heavy duty linings. In the 70's it was common like a loaf of bread. Also brake pads were the same, riveted (heavy duty) bonded (standard). Hope this clarifies your query. Cheers

    • @Ralf1erudd
      @Ralf1erudd Год назад

      @@caddyrack I don't have a query. I was trying to clarify how it should be done as it was in the 1930's to vehicles then. Bonding and rivets as taught by my father and my 71 year old boss who I had the privilege of working with when I as 15. Call it belt and braces if you like. It stops the shoes falling apart after a quick fix!
      Hope that helps you understand why the shoes broke up in the first place. Slightest movement they start to break up.
