    Hagler took his best shots ! This guy was phenomenal and ruthless in the ring and he fought aaron Pryor at 18 years old another dangerous fighter ! Man that era had some killers back then !

    Tommy Hearns. My favorite fighter of all time. Back in the day in Detroit we called him the Cobra because of that left hand of his. He would just snipe guys with that jab and drop that right hand behind and man whew! That was the end of the fight. Then Ring magazine put him on the cover. They dressed him up in an old fashioned ganster pin stripe suit and gave him a Tommy gun for the photo shoot. Then overnight he became the Hit Man Thomas Hearns!!! What a champion. I idolized that man when I was a kid. Went to his training camp in northern Michigan when I was 8 years old and watched him work the heavy bag with Manny Stewart.

      Leonard was still behind on all the cards at the time of the stoppage and it was arguably an early stoppage . If they fought 10 times I think Hearns wins 7, especially if Hearns doesn't weigh in underweight like he did in the first fight.

      Yup, I watched Hearns stone Pipino Cuevas with My Step Dad back in the day and he became my favorite fighter. Still is to this day. Dude left it all in the ring every time out, kill or be killed. Never a boring Tommy Hearns fight.....Right hand he stopped Duran with was the hardest punch I've ever seen landed, in a fight between two Hall of Famers. Looked like Duran ran into a downed power line and 2000 volts.

    Sugar Ray Leonard is the better fighter P4P, but I think Tommy Hearns is simply a match-up nightmare for Floyd. His length, use of his jab, as well as the threat of his powerful overhand right is enough to beat Floyd.
    Floyd was said to have the hardest time against southpaws and body punchers and Tommy is neither, but I truly believe him to have the right boxer-puncher skills to beat Floyd. The only potential downfall for Hearns is his suspect chin, but Hearns got TKO'd by SRL in the 14th round (not w/in 12), beat Roberto Duran in 2, and also beat a prime Pipino Cuevas (who beat 11 of his 12 opponents by knockout) in 2 rounds, so I don't think Hearns would have a problem with Floyd's power.

    • @Alex-trl
      @Alex-trl 2 года назад

      With Hearns you need to have enough punching power to earn his respect. If you let him dominate the fight and get too confident its game over. Floyd doesn't have that, it would be very hard for him to survive 15 rounds

    • @kawaiiafangirl
      @kawaiiafangirl 2 года назад

      @@Alex-trl That's how I see it. I never saw Floyd having to take it inside and brawl in order to win (the way Leonard did against Hearns) once he got to Welterweight. I see Floyd trying to stay outside of Hearns' range in order to box and counter but Hearns' length would be too troublesome for Floyd.

    Leonard was a far better boxer than Hearns, and had better movement, and Ray
    also defeated Hagler, who dominated Hearns, and knocked him out cold. Leonard
    was by far the best welterweight to ever set foot in a boxing ring. He also had
    knockout power in both hands.

    • @eranliber5993
      @eranliber5993 Год назад

      Leonard was a slightly better boxer but that wasnt evident (and couldnt ever be evident) between them. Styles make fights - and in two fights (actually also when they were younger and sparring at kronk gym), tommy outboxed ray MASTERFULLY in every round that wasnt a slugfest. Actually you can absolutely make a case for hearns skills: can you name a boxer that never been outboxed in his career? Hearns is one name. And he fought imo in the golden age of boxing. Outboxing a prime undefeated young super technical champion like virgil hill at 175lbs (wayyyyy away from his original weight) where tommy didnt have the reach advantage he always had before, (ofcourse hill was also quicker) hill defended his title 11 times before... Ray leonard is not one of them. Was outboxed on several fights (most past his prime - but again, hearns was over his prime when he owned hill at 175).
      Even ray with his sublime skills could not defeat tommy by outboxing him. Against tommy - you brawl with courage or you lose. The way i see it - tommy hearns, as respected as he is, still underated. Not mccallum or benitez underated, but still underated. People dont give him respect or remember his INSANE boxing skills. His power came only when he turned pro... in the amateurs he had 10 percent ko ratio.... maybe less, but he won 95 percent of his fights. He was a monster boxer.

Nooo! That's not gonna work against Floyd! This IS boxing! You gotta outbox Floyd to beat him.

      I've only seen highlights of Floyd JR, but everyone I've seen fight him, they play offense.
      If someone took the approach of defense, and let Floyd come to you, I think he'd really struggle with that. Because he use to defending and catching people that way. Let him come to you, let him hit you, and then take your shots.
      But at Mike Tyson once said. Everyone has a plan until they get hit.

    Tommy had given coaches of Mayweather opponents a good point obviously they never saw this video! Floyd Mayweather used to win some of his fights on counter-punching but Tommy Hearns just gave you a scenario if you keep him Out Of Reach then he can't counterpunch if you're scoring he cannot counterpunch from a distance cuz you can't punch was not there to hit

      From what I understand it's purely a "motor control" thing with his speech, caused by boxing yes, but his mind seems as sharp as ever. I.e. it's a speech impediment that gives a false impression of his mental faculties, least I hope so. Gave us so many exciting fights but I do remember wishing he would call it a day at the end of his career.

      Not only would Ray & Tommy beat Mayweather, so would Alexis Arguello, Aaron Pryor, at jr welterweight if he dared to try jr. Middleweight in that era John Mugabi, Julian Jackson, Terry Norris, even Pernell Whitiker. Lightweights Julio Cesar Chavez, even his uncle Roger at lightweight would give him fits.
      The talent pool in the 80s lightweight to Jr. Middleweight was so much deeper than when he fought it's no comparison. If he fought in his dad's era no way he's undefeated.

    One of the fab 4 or magnificent 5 if you include Wilfred Benitez, these guys all fought each other in their respective prime! Shame about fighters today!! Waiting for fighters to get old and shopworn before fighting them! Mayweather made a career from that! Pacqiau Oscar Mosley all well past their prime! These guys were different breed.. as for hearns vs mayweather lol 😂 that’s funny! It’s not even competitive! Hearns never ever had problems with technical boxers, because he was so tall and had great left jab and excellent technical skills himself! At 6”2 he was as tall as most heavyweights! At 147,154,160 even 168 in his prime nobody beats him in today’s era! I think floyd would be an easy fight for him, he had problems with brawlers if anything! Technical boxers he handled easily, leonard Benitez hill he outboxed all of these guys

    Mr Hearns is legend..When it came to boxing no one could out box him..He was tall and he would keep them at the end of that jab,,,He out boxed Learnard and Bentize..Floyd never fought a men like Hearns..Hearns was better then Floyd simply put..Just like,I was looking at some tuff on boxing some fans said may their souls rest in peace some boxing fans said if Jack Dempsey and Louis would had came along at the same time Dempsey would beat Louis....Louis was heavyweight champion for like 10 years ..Had like 20 something TITTLE defense clean out the Heavyweight division in his time he beat men like Max Bear,boxer like Walcott who was a slick boxer,Ezard Charles..Dempsey didn't have that kind of competition...And he never fought Harry Willes who was considered to be the one of the best boxer ever to not get a chance to fight for the world tittle..And Oh Louis was one of the hardest hitting heavyweights of all time..Louis would have beat him....

      Leonard KOd 5 reigning World Champs n yer talking like he was cherry picking.
      Prime Hearns.
      Prime Kalule
      Prime Duran.
      LaLonde wasn't an all time great n was a bit weight drained but still he was a legit reigning World Champ who was way bigger than Leonard who was never any bigger than a full sized WW.
      Hagler was reigning World champ who had cleaned out his division n was considered p4p one of the best if not the best in the world when Leonard rolled off the couch n beat him.
      1987 Hagler might have been a smidgen more worn than 1983-86 Hagler but he was still great.
      Leonard was medically retired with an eye injury n had been living the high life before he came back to face Hagler in an all time great fight.
      An active prime Leonard might even have stopped Hagler over 15 rds. I doubt it but he was a shadow of himself before retirement n was clearly having stamina issues from the 6th onwards. Think about it. He was gassed but done 6 further rounds with a Hagler that smelled blood in the water.
      If thats not great then nothing is.
      If Sugar Ray Leonard isnt in your top 5 all time list then yer either a hater, are new to the sport or just don't kno what yer looking at while yer looking at it.
      I have AlI & Sugar Ray Robinson top 2 even though They're before my time but their effect n influence on the boxers who followed them since then & up until this day with Usyk n Tyson Fury paying homage to Ali with their style, they're undeniably great.
      But what Ive seen in my time ?
      Sugar Ray Leonards the best.
      That puts him in my top 3 all time list.
      Closely behind him is Roy Jones Jr.
      Then everyone else can be talked about n debated but make no mistake about it, Leonard is for real one of the greatest of All time, when it came down to shining brightest on the biggest occasion theres been nobody better, the mans a winner.
