    Roberto in his prime Was unstoppable, an animal that struck fear in the hearts of other fighters. Outside the ring He Was a humble and good man I Witnessed it first hand. I remember going to the Main Street Gym in Los Angeles back in the early 80's and watching him tune up for a world title. I Was in a crowd of on lookers, as he Makes His Way into the ring, I step in front of him and give him a manly pat on his chest, for a quick second I thought I Was going to be carried out or at least get One of Those menacing "Charlie Manson" Type killer stares, but no, he just glanced at me and in a humble Manner he nodded his head and gave me a smile!

      FA Barragan Not unstoppable, but yeah he was good.

    • @rolo1955
      @rolo1955 9 лет назад +15

      turtles Not Unstoppable...? Between 1972 and 1978 he destroyed anybody that dared get into the ring with him. Duran established legendary status in the 70's. And as far as your statement "Good Fighter" shows you know nothing about Roberto or the fight game, one does not call a man of this caliber "a good fighter!"
      He was pound for pound one of the greatest fighters that has ever lived.
      Viva "Manos de Piedra!"

    Still, Roberto Duran is my favorite fighter of a time. I remember watching him fight as a kid in 70s. I remember when he was training in Philly to fight Lou Bizzaro he had broke a sparring partners nose. My favorite bout of Roberto's was when be knocked out Ray Lampkin in the fourteenth round.

    To me boxing is the most human of sport. People may call it barbaric and brutal but I don't see another sport where years after retirement men treat each other with the dignity and respect they deserve. I remembered the bitter rivalry between Hearns, Leonard, Duran and Hagler and so to see the respect these men have towards each other today is amazing. The same with the British trio of Chris Eubanks, Nigel Benn and Michael Watson. They pounded the hell out of each other but today they act as if they were brothers. I don't see that in football, cricket, tennis or any other sport.

    • @enzomaidana5369

      i agree, the hate between eubank and benn was real. no promotion bull, so to see them get along the way they do these days its amazing and supports your theory 110%, we dont see this in any other sport, only in boxing.

    I feel bad for Manny because there are 2 major promoting bodies on this era, Top Rank and Golden Boy, and Manny fought all the fighters that Top Rank has to offer. If Manny fights for money and cherrypicks his opponent then he won't be fighting Algieri this november if thats the case because first of all Algieri won't bring huge amount of money on the table and second Algieri doesn't have the credit to be in the ring with Manny, but then again who is still there on Top Rank for Manny to fight? Manny literally retired most of the very good fighters like Morales,Barrera,Margarito,Dela Hoya,Hatton, and soon-to-be-retiring Mosley and Clottey, Cotto and Bradley would proably have few more years. Even though Manny still wins against Marquez on a 2-1-1 score Marquez still knocked him on the 4th fight so basically a Pacquiao vs Marquez 5 would make more sense rather than a Pacquiao vs Alvarado, because as what I've said who is still there for Manny? Manny literally retired most of them.
    I understand Porter signing on Golden Boy rather than Top Rank because Porter was a former sparring parter of Pacquiao and other than Pacquiao dropping Porter twice on the canvas Porter also knows that Manny won't duck him if the time comes that they have to fight and he also knows how very great skills Manny have because they been a sparring Partner for almost 2 years. What confuses me is Why Thurman,Danny Garcia,Brook(?),etc signed with Golden Boy/Al Haymon even though they know that the top fighter on that Promoting Coimpany, Floyd Mayweather, is known for ducking his opponents? So you mean to say that Thurman,Danny,etc signed with GBP because they know they can make noise there knowing Floyd won't fight them? If only Thurman,Danny, and Brook(?) signed with Top Rank then the Manny vs Thurman/Danny/Brook would most probably have already happened, but why can't the Floyd vs Thurman/Danny/Brook happen if Floyd,Thurman,Danny,and Brook are from the same promoting company? And also keep in mind that Thurman is a mandatory for Floyd still why can't the fight happen? Ask yourself,,,

    • @ericastier1646

      +Casey Nichols it's sugar ray who can not get closure for exploiting his money advantage to make a boxing legend accept a fight for money instead of glory, he knew he could not beat him, and settled for a parody and razzmatazz with ray charles singing the national anthem, then dancing like a circus clown. Duran is a proud boxer and made his cash that day, didn't want to have anything to do with a man disgracing boxing with clowning. If he had fought a duran in shape a second time, Duran would have knocked him down. Instead of being a man he lowered himself for apparences to chose a different game : running, clowning and frustrating the opponent (gayweather before the date) . Disgraceful for boxing.

      quenquen411 He's actually a bit more famous for being in the top 10 p4p boxers of every boxing expert in the world's top 10, usually being in the top 5.

      quenquen411 No, he's the guy that came up 2 weight classes at 30 years old and beat the shit out of Leonard and fought 70+ lightweight fights without a loss. He's the reason Leonard isn't shit, because that fool got beat by a lightweight coming up 2 classes to his natural weight and destroying him, he ruined Leonard while Duran fought on for years and expanded his career.

      quenquen411 Nobody gave a shit a 30 year old guy with more than 70 fights got beat, all anyone cared about is a young Leonard got beat by a 30 year old coming up 2 weight classes. That is more humiliating than anything that can happen in boxing and why nobody ranks Leonard above Duran.
