    Jnr doesn't use one style. In recent years he's perfected both stances and different guards and if you watch him closely, he will use the classic high guard just as often as his dads philly shell.. He really is genius in the ring say what you will but even Leonard or in fact ANY welterweight ANY era would have serious trouble with Jnr, he is no easy fight like his dad was. Anyone who says otherwise is a hater.

      I'm not so sure, Hearns had trouble finding Leonard at times and nobody is going to argue that Floyd is a better defensive boxer then Leonard.

    • @TJE.13
      @TJE.13 9 лет назад +15

      ***** I've seen both fights.. Leonard changed his game plan then what happened? Im not saying Floyd would definitely beat either of them but I do think both fights would be competitive at the least. Hagler is too big for Floyd so he wouldn't even fight him lol.. But personally I think Floyd would've beaten Duran.

    • @TJE.13
      @TJE.13 9 лет назад +17

      ***** I think Floyd is the best defensive boxer of all time. Leonard, Hearns and Duran all had better offensive styles but it would be interesting to see how they would've dealt with Floyd's craftyness. The reason I say I think Floyd would've beaten Duran is that Duran's style was the basic Mexican formula which Floyd has ALWAYS looked impressive against even since the amateurs. Leonard frustrated him into quitting by using is legs and pot shotting and if there's one thing Floyd is good at its exactly that... However both Leonard and Hearns were bigger and better pure boxers then Duran, both would be a much harder fight for him.

    • @Jiron127
      @Jiron127 9 лет назад +4

      +Elpapa Delarubia Floyd jr beats duran 7-5, in a competitive, but boring fight. Now jcc sr would've been a tougher fight for floyd jr than duran. He along w/hearns are style nightmares for floyd jr essentially. Hearns would've been a nightmare matchup for floyd. Too tall w/too much speed and overall activity. He'd put floyd to sleep or tko him by the 10th or 11th. floyd jr vs srl is kind of a toss up. Leonard was naturally bigger, but not really the better boxer. I peg srl to win on points 6/10 times by a 7-5 margin most likely. If floyd was to beat srl the other 4 times, it would be by a larger margin. More like 8-4 or even 9-3 floyd. The dudes skill level was much better than srl. No ko or tko. Floyd easily beats benitez 9-3 in decent fight.

      Fighting men coming off losses for *NAME RECOGNITION* is not the same as fighting those same men when they are *winning, confident and are world champions.* That's what Pacquiao did.
      Padding one's record with 40 straight fights against men no one but locals have ever heard of is NOT the way of a legend.
      Using catchweights to gain unfair advantages in all of one's most significant fights is not worthy of a world champion. Especially when that fighter had been making the welterweight size on fight night since 4 divisions prior.
      Pacquiao has fought less world champions than Floyd, has captured less world championships than Floyd, and has been beaten exponentially more times than Floyd against D,C & B-level fighters.
      Floyd has a made everyone he's faced look amateurish. His skills are so superior to his opponents that people call him "boring" because there is such a lack of drama and anticipation because he is always in control and imposing his will.
      Even Pacquiao fans admit that Pacquiao has been in wars .. which only goes to show that the man is limited and must exchange and be reckless in order to win. Some may argue that his style is more exciting, but excitement has never been the measure of greatness or even the measure of what is more preferable.
      If it were, then Mayweather wouldn't have more people willing to pay more money consistently to watch his fights over Pacquiao's. If I disliked a man and found him boring, I wouldn't pay $70 to watch him when I could watch Pacquiao for $40 .. even if I wanted to see him lose. No one wants to see anyone lose _THAT_ badly.
      Pacquiao has never unified a division. Pacquiao has only had 4 championships in his 8 divisions. The others were vacant/interim titles. Pacquiao has been knocked out seveeral times. Pacquiao has been outpointed. And for the last half decade before fighting Mayweather, Pacquiao was content to have smaller men come up from lightweight and super lightweight as his sole source of competition.
      Pacquiao _was_ great in his first 4 divisions, but after that, it became about what he could get away with trying to pass for legitimate to build his brand.
      At a certain point, it became about Pacquiao fighting his stablemates, who had a common promoter, which made it easier for Team Pacquiao to get them to accept weight manipulation clauses and target them coming off losses.
      True story.

      @KissDaRipples ......l believe Leonard had a way better chin for starters. FMJ when he runs into adversity he whines and looks to the ref to bail him out. Leonard sucked it up and got busy getting after his opponent. Your best defense is a good offense. Leonard has better power and combinations. Mayweather is a 1-2 guy. You don't win boxing matches against great fighters on defense. You have to fire back and go into the lion's den. Mayweather lacks the heart when it gets tough I believe....and once Leonard stung him and found the range FMJ would go the same way his father did. Leonard was a better stand up movement boxer too, and his close in defense isn't bad either. But mostly Leonard won't quit when it gets tough, FMJ can't beat Leonard in the heart department.

    I bet you that if this fight were to happen today people would call it boring and disappointing just like did the Pacquiao fight. Manny and Leonard are both guys who are most effective with their flurries on the inside, so I see Floyd staying away from Ray just like he did with Manny. Another thing to remember is that Leonard was actually far behind on the scorecards against Hearns, a guy who also stayed on the outside and kept Ray at bay. Because that fight was 14 rounds Hearns got tired and Leonard was able to get the KO in the end. If it wasn't for that late KO Ray would have lost that fight. This is a strong indication that a fight against Floyd would not go so easy, considering that Floyd is also more defensively sound than Hearns...

      @GenMusic856 8 лет назад +4

      Good thoughts but two big differences
      1) Reach
      2) Power
      ht reach
      Hearns 6'1" 78"
      SRL 5'10" 74"
      Floyd 5'8" 72"
      El Radar 5'10" 70"
      Duran 5'7" 66"
      Floyd doesn't have the freakishly long 78" reach to be able to play a cat and mouse game with SRL, who is just as athletically gifted as him with KO power in either hand. In contrast, Floyd would have serious issues keeping Hearns or SRL off of him for 12 rounds because of their height, reach and ability to box as well as brawl. Don't see him making it past 8 against either of those two to be honest.
      Floyd chances would be better against Duran (who I believe he would be able to earn a tough decision against with reach and foot movement) or Benitez in terms of stylistic matchup (Benitez would be tough though).

    Sugar Ray Leonard is my childhood hero.
    He had something extra in his spirit.
    Regarding him vs Floyd Jr, I have no idea who wins. Sugar was susceptible to getting hit with right hand leads (see Floyd Sr, Duran, Hearns). Floyd's defense is impeccable.
    However, Sugar could go into deep water and survive. We do not know if Floyd Jr has that in him. Part of that is his supernatural skill. Part of that is his competition. Sugar fought killers and beat them all. Sugar has slightly faster hands than Floyd Jr, plus he is a better combination puncher.
    Again, no idea who wins this fight, but I would love to see it.

    If Mosley at 37 got to him twice, then I know this guy at 25 certainly capable, depends on if it's his night or not, still think Pacquiao was unlucky not to get that W

    Kevin P I'm trying to find your comment on the page but it is just not here. I'd gladly reply, but RUclips has been pretty messed up after its latest revamp.
    I see that you've messaged me, but your comment seems to have disappeared. I don't know what the hell RUclips and Google have done.

      Mr. Get It Done You obviously don’t know the facts. I went back on Wikipedia and looked at the boxers you mentioned, except for Hagler, because Leonard came out of retirement and moved up to middleweight to fight Hagler. In fact, Leonard only fought one fight in 5 years, and still had the balls to fight a great champion like Hagler. First off Pryor. Pryor was scheduled to fight Leonard but Pryor wanted more money. So Pryor called it off. A few years later Pryor was set up to fight Leonard again, but Leonard got a detached retina against Roger Stafford, and had to retire.
      Next off, Donald Curry. By the time Curry was ready to fight for a championship in 1983, Leonard was already retired. In fact Curry won the title vacated by Leonard. Then Curry lost a title fight, right before Leonard came out of retirement to fight Hagler. And get this, he sued Leonard and his manager, for talking him out of moving up to middleweight. He claims that they convinced him to stay at a lower weight, so Leonard could fight Hagler, instead of Curry fighting Hagler. So after that he hated Leonard, it get this. His next fight he lost with Leonard at the fight as a boxing analyst, despite his protests. So that ended Curry’s chance.
      Okay Mike McCallum I don’t even remember. Looking at his fights, he wasn’t in Leonard’s weight class, in the early part of his career. By the time they could have fought, Leonard was retired. They possibly could have fought after Hagler , bought Leonard retired for a short period, and came out of retirement to fight Lelonde instead, because he was a light heavyweight champion. Leonard had a lot to gain by being champion in another weight class, plus it made for a better crowd draw, fighting a great white hope champion. That gave him his 5th weight division title. After that McCallum lost, so Leonard fought a bigger fight with Hearns again. You see, it’s also about money. Don’t you know that. Why fight a tough fighter, who the casual fan doesn’t care about, when you can fight another tough fighter, who will make you way more money, and will be a bigger fight.
      As for Michael Nunn who is bigger and much younger than Leonard, there was only a small window where they could of fought. I remember Nunn was considered a boring fighter, and wasn’t a good draw, so there wasn’t a good reason for Leonard to fight him. Instead he fought a similar opponent, but lighter in weight in Terry Norris.The young Norris destroyed Leonard, but it went the distance. Leonard retired after that. He would have lost to Michael Nunn also, because Leonard was past his prime. Leonard is more natural as a light middleweight, or even a welterweight when he was younger. Yet he had the balls to move up to light heavyweight and fight Donny Lelonde who was no chump. He was the WBC World Light Heavyweight Champion, and already defended his title twice. He also had a very good knockout ratio, and only had 2 losses in his career at the time. Leonard fought a tough fight at knocked Lelonde out cold in the late rounds.
      So I proved your wrong. Leonard didn’t duck anyone. Unfortunate circumstances is the reason why Leonard didn’t get to fight Pryor(although he had his chance), McCallum, and Curry. As for Nunn, it never materialized, and I’m glad. Leonard easily would have lost, and not because Nunn is better. If they were close to the same age, and Leonard could have fought him in 1981-1982 Leonard would most likely beat him as a super welterweight. Maybe after Hagler he could have beat him, but probably not. By the time 1986 rolled around Leonard wouldn’t be able to beat a good fighter with speed. Hagler was also getting old by 1986, and wasn’t that fast. Speed wasn’t Hagler’s forte anyway. Hope you appreciate the time I took to write all this, and get the facts. Look it up for yourself, if you want.

      @@nitro_001newman2 he openly admitted to waiting until Hagler looked beatable to fight him in a Hagler documentary.. same thing happened with Duran.. he said he wanted to catch him while he was out of shape, which means he's not at his best smh that was Duran's fault for not being prepared but it dont take away from the reason why Leonard thought he needed to fight him out of shape...he retired as more champions were arriving and would pop up when an opening arrived of someone looking beatable in his eyes..
