    When you see them now you can really see the natural size disadvantage Duran had, he was always a blown up lightweight fighting Leonard and Hearns two divisions up and Hagler 4 divisions up, whilst the others grew into other divisions Duran became stocky just to make the fights and cash in. I'd also add by the time Hearns, and Leonard turned pro Duran had been the undisputed World Lightweight Champion for 6 years and with the even larger Hagler turning pro, Duran had been world Lightweight champion for 2 years.

    • @6400az
      @6400az 8 лет назад +5

      +John Maddin Very true, really was a testament Duran got in there an fought haggler, Leonard etc. Eventually it caohg ht up too him with Hearns. Up to that point he'd dodged several bullets.

    • @noahperez2566
      @noahperez2566 8 лет назад +44

      Hagler,...Hearns, and Leonard enjoyed a huge physical advantage over Duran,....one can argue that they may have all weighed the same when they faced each other,....but at only 5`7'' and a natural lightweight at best, Duran had far more to overcome than his contemporaries during that particular era,...that he was able to compete and excel in triumph when he set his mind to it, is a testimony to the incredible talent,gift and mastery he possesed as a boxer,...many casual observers tend to either discount or forget that Duran began his professional career as a featherweight,....then went on to super featherweight in which he could have easily won both undisputed world titles but chose instead...to settle into the lightweight division for which he held the title from1972 till 1979 before vacating to move up first to superlight weight briefly and thereby forfeiting another opportunity for an easy title and instead chose to campaign as a welterweight culminating and wresting the WBC title from Sugar RAY Leonard in a very brutal 15 round slugfest,.....I think at this point every boxing fan pretty much knows his story from this point. His intense partying between fights coupled with last second and very casual attitude towards training to get back into reasonable shape cost his downfall,....even so,...he did have his moments and against all odds,..overcame and went on to win the super welterweight and the middleweight world titles astounding almost everyone,....and again, at a huge physical disadvantage which when you consider his very physical boxing style,...is a big deal. all in all,...this little guy who went from feather weight to super middleweight accomplished quite a bit and which is why he is regularly ranked in the top five greatest fighters of all time

      +Fly High Hearns in rhythm, sticking his long jab out and pot-shoting GGG as he tries to enter is a very distinct possibility in a dream match up. GGG would likely have to enter a world of vicious shots to get set to punch. Hard to believe that these guys were once in the same weight division. Tommy Hearns....nice guy. Always humble & respectful. Most killers aren't that was, especially Duran.

      A little?
      He is really bad,but he will always be a Legend along with Duran Leonard and last but not least Hagler!
      That's the Golden era of boxing when fighters came to fight hard although Leonard was more like Mayweather he still mixed his magical foot work with his tremendous boxing!

    Roberto Duran is one of the greatest fighter's I ever seen in my 48 years of watching the sport.Fighter not boxer but fighter.This guy came to fight each and every time and did not hand pick his opponent and fight guy's who weren't boxer's.Unlike Mayfeather Duran,Hearns,Leonard and Hagler never dodged anyone and Mayfeather would have got his ass beat GOOD if he had fought any of these guys.You think Mayfeather could have run for 12 or 15 round's vs Duran like everyone else he fought ?, "I Don't Think So".One of Duran's best skills was cutting the ring off on you and making you fight and he would have done the same with Mayfeather and "Knock him the fuck out" within 5 or 6 rounds and whip his uncle Roger's ass in the same day.Leonard would give him a boxing lesson and after that fight Mayfeather would have looked like someone put honey on his face and stuck into a Bee hive,Hagler would have broke bone's and Tommy would have put him in a hospital ICU on life support with sever head trauma.These guy's were real fighter's not conman like Mayfeather.

    I'm not a Duran fan but that guy was a beast. He put hands on people at middle weight. He put hands on Hagler and Barkley. No one could go the distance with Marvin at the time and he beat Barkley, the man that beat Hearns twice. Much respect for Duran.
