Leonard knows what happened. In previous interview Leonard set it up to fight him while he knew Duran had gone up to 190+ pounds and wasn’t in shape for that fight. They forced the money on Duran to take the fight o. Short notice. That’s the fact. Plus Duran wanted ask for a rematch right after the fight and Leonard didn’t accept until they were both done.
Yes they paid Durans manager and extra 2 million if made the fight on a certain date. Duran couldn’t be ready in time and Leonard knew it. Arcel tried to move the date but King said he would ruin Arcel if Duran didn’t fight. So Duran said I will retire . Freddie Brown told Duran if he didn’t fight King was going to ruin Arcel. Duran asked Freddie can u get me ready and Freddy said no not enough time. Eleta brought in a doctor and they gave Durand shots to lose weight Duran was shiiting 5 to 6 times a day and he could only eat tomatoes and lettuce. In the dressing room he ate before the fight and his stomach wasn’t used to having that much food. Around the 5 th round he started to get cramps real bad. Then you take into consideration Leonard was prime and ready and Duran just wasn’t. When Duran said about a week later he wanted a rematch Leonard refused because he knew Duran would be ready this time and would be more motivated then ever. It’s sad but boxing is a dirty business, and Durans manager selling him out just shows that they where together for almost 16 years

Duran wasn't prepared for the 2nd figh(his own fault). Duran was still in the fight, it was close. What did Leonard do other than run around and showboat?
Ray Leonard from the ‘No Mas’ fight is the best performance in boxing history. He took one of the greatest fighters in history in his prime (Duran was 29) and made him look like a complete amateur. People look at the showboating, but he was dominant in every phase in that fight.
Roberto Duran was SET UP by King and Duran's Management on the 2nd fight..From the start of the 1st Fight Duran, Media played 2nd Fiddle to Leonard..Boxing Dirty Game tactics were played on Duran..Leonard was a Great Fighter beaten by an Smaller,Slower,Older Duran..Both are Legends..Canelo,Mayweather enjoyed such Protection..
I watched this and it’s not the whole truth. Leonard knew what happened. I like Leonard but this only part of it. Duran said he should have just went the distance and took the lost but everything that went on before the fight and the fact Duran couldn’t fight the way he wanted to frustrated him and he just said screw this shit. He should have never quit and he knows it. I think he redeemed himself later on by fighting Hagler and winning two world titles.
I have smelled a rat on this 2nd fight from the night it happened. After a tremendous weight cut, Duran ate a ton of food after the weigh in. He was literrally sick to his stomach and could not go on. He was fighting fine in the fight and not hurt in any way. If you have ever gorged on food and then boxed you would know how sick Duran felt. Let's remember Roberto Duran was the best lightweight ever. He was a fun guy and partier, after he went up in weight class to beat Ray there was nothing for him to prove. So he celebrated. A lot. Duran was shafted very badly in the first fight regarding prizemoney. watching the fight, you will notice Duran is fighting and attempting to fight while Ray is running. Regardless of hearsay, neither guy was dominating and Ray didn't make Duran quit. Duran won the championship many years prior at a lower weight class. He would win more titles at much higher weight classes just on guts and skill. But he was a lightweight in the early 1970s and beat SRL to the punch in their first and only real fight in 1980. The second fight ended due to sickness and both fighters were well beyond their years in 1989 when Ray would not stand and fight and Duran was too old to chase him all night.
@@kelvinbrown8131 Watch the fight my friend. Duran was not getting manhandled like the press said. Anytime SRL and Duran would actually engage it's competitive. Duran needs no excuses, he beat SRL coming up 2 weight classes and 12 pounds. Study your history. Duran has a better career, more popular than SRL in his own country, and beat the brakes of Iran Barkley and Davey Moore after this fight. Both guys are legends
Duran was only down 2 points on 2 cards and 1 point on the other cards. Duran was set up and Duran knew it going into the fight. Duran was betrayed by his manager Eleta.
And Sugar ray beat him twice after that and knocked out Tommy hit man hearns in his prime 32-0 30kos in the 14th rd and Heat man hearns knocked Duran out flat and the ref didn't bother counting and he beat Binetez by ko and Benitez beat Duran to. Sugar beat all of them. 4 of the great fighters beat Duran.🥊🥊
He didn't make him quit at all he got fed up of chasing you around the ring Cos you wouldn't stand and fight it was same with the hagler fight running don't win fights thats why hagler was robbed.
Well, in the 1st Duran fight he went toe - to - toe and lost, in fight #2 he chickened out from that and won. If he had some class he would give Duran more credit.
@@JrJVintage1956if we are playing Pussie. I guess that how u considered a win, who act like a bitch gets to act like a Pussie. Duran wasn’t going to waste his time with a chicken duck
Well Ray, u didnt kick his ass 2nd fight nor did u make him quit. You knew duran was close to 200lbs and partying, so you forced a quick rematch. Durans handlers accepted without talking to duran. He took diuretics and had nothing left. So dont act like u made the same Duran from the 1st fight quit ! You only rematches Hearns when u thought he was shot. You agreed to fight hagler only when you thought he lost a step and had to have conditions in ur favor. Afyer u beat hearns in 81, you went 5-2 and 1, a draw that shoulda made u 5-3 post 81. Pathetic!!!
Duran was SCARED. That’s the only reason somebody quits a fight. He was losing and he knew from the FIRST fight how strong Leanord was in the championship rounds..Ray was going to knock him out!
Duran was down 2 points in the fight. Duran was set up by his own manager Eleta. Leonard’s people knew Duran was partying and was also in a bad way his wife was talking about leaving him, his father tried to come back in his life , and his close friend was killed . Duran went into a depression and drank, did drugs and ate like hell ( which Duran did in between fights). Eleta was talking to Leonard’s people and King and they gave him a date for the fight and Eleta said that’s not enough time for Duran to get ready. King told Eleta if you get Duran in the ring on that date you will get 2 million for yourself for making the fight. Eleta went to Duran and said Leonard wanted a rematch. Duran said sure , but Eleta didn’t tell Duran the date. Later on when Duran found out the date he flipped he said I can’t get ready by then. Arcel went to Eleta and said change the date. Eleta said he can’t. Arcel met with King and Leonard’s people and Kingbtold Arcel either u get Duran in the ring on that date or I will sue the both of you and I will personally wreck you Arcel. When Arcel told Duran they couldn’t change the date you have to fight. Duran said f it I will just retire and then come back and fight Leonard. Freddie Brown talked to Duran and told him King was going to ruin Arcel. Duran loved Arcel and said Freddie can u get me ready and in shape for the fight. Freddie told him no it’s not enough time you will be too weak. Well Duran was eating lettuce and tomatoes once a day. Eleta brought in a doctor and they gave Duran drugs that caused him to shed the weight but he was shitting 5 to 6 times a day. Duran was over the weight 1 day before the fight and had to lose a god amount so they gave him another drug and that did the trick but it caused severe stomach cramps. Duran was hurting bad in between rounds and told Arcel he was in a lot of pain in his stomach. Duran got frustrated because he couldn’t do anything and he wasn’t healthy. We know the outcome. After the fight Duran retired but after he got home and realized what he did and his loyal fans hated him Duran wanted a rematch. Leonard said no Duran offered to fight winner take all , but Leonard said no. Duran then made his final offer I will fight for nothing and Leonard said no. Now this was told to me by Freddie Browns nephew. When Duran quit I was pissed and didn’t want to hear anything about it. Then I heard this and it makes sense because when Duran came back Arcel was still training him because he knew Duran was set up and shouldn’t have fought that night.
Well u can say what ever u want but Leonard was asked a week later would you give Duran a rematch and Leonard said no. That was on live TV. I don’t care u believe what I wrote or not.
Ray did not make him quit. He quit because he was out of shape. He wanted to fight him and fair and square. He didn’t get to fight him again until they both were old.
I never seen so many so called boxing fans defend a quitter and make so many excuses 4 a dude who got destroyed by M Hagler Sugar Ray and let’s not forget The Hitman Hearns almost killed him in the ring Facts💯
It’s not an excuse those are the facts. Hearns did knock out Duran he had like a 6 inch height advantage and 11 inch advantage. The Hagler fight was even through 12 and Hagler at his natural weight of 160 won the last three rounds. Hearns got destroyed by Barkley twice and Duran beat Barkley. Stop the hate and
Hagler didn’t destroy him. Hearns caught Duran and hurt him then KO him . Duran didn’t quit in either fights and he was hurt by Hearns bad. Duran took Hagler the 15 round distance when Hagler was in his prime. Hearns got KO by Barkley and also lost a decision to Barkley. Duran dropped Barkley in rout to a decision .
I don't remember it as heroic. Duran -his fault- had ballooned to ...200lbs?! Sugar side had a lot of sponsorships at a stake after losing the title and came up with a smart "business" move: let's recover the title ASAP!! They put money on the table and an overweight Duran accepted it. Cramps? No doubt!
Love sugar ray, but Marvin was bull like, that said in every sugar ray fight u could not take your eyes off him, hearns too was fabulous, even at 10 I could understand why these were a golden generation 🇬🇧👍

I still can't understand why Duran's people accepted the fight so soon after the first. Whatever...
Look sugar vs marcos geraldo this guy bet ray.
I don't know how Leonard could feel good about this win, Duran quit because he sold out. People applauding this bullshit is stupid.
Please Sugar Ray Leonard, beat Benitez, Duran, Hagler and Hearns, who else can say that fixed please
I think he redeemed himself later on by fighting Hagler and winning two world titles.
oh stop it, Duran sold out that night, stomach cramps my ass, he had gotten the biggest payday of his career that night, took the money, and ran..
Excuse he quit
@@kelvinbrown8131 Watch the fight my friend. Duran was not getting manhandled like the press said. Anytime SRL and Duran would actually engage it's competitive. Duran needs no excuses, he beat SRL coming up 2 weight classes and 12 pounds. Study your history. Duran has a better career, more popular than SRL in his own country, and beat the brakes of Iran Barkley and Davey Moore after this fight. Both guys are legends
@@kingtyomama6564 what fight was you watching
Duran was only down 2 points on 2 cards and 1 point on the other cards. Duran was set up and Duran knew it going into the fight. Duran was betrayed by his manager Eleta.
Duran disgraced the sport and stole 8 million. Next argument.
Big deal, when they were both tip top Duran beat the shit out of him
And Sugar ray beat him twice after that and knocked out Tommy hit man hearns in his prime 32-0 30kos in the 14th rd and Heat man hearns knocked Duran out flat and the ref didn't bother counting and he beat Binetez by ko and Benitez beat Duran to. Sugar beat all of them. 4 of the great fighters beat Duran.🥊🥊
He was a dancer
Shut up Duran Quit
Duran barely won matter of fact the judges won for him stop it bruh
Leonard got pummeled by feather-fisted Camacho. In meantime, Hagler - a true champion, was never off his feet
and SRL beat Hagler, so. . .
If he made him quit then why didnt Duran quit in 3rd fight? Ray too busy running from a 38 year old former Lightweight.
Make it make sense you just talking nonsense
You couldn't beat Roberto Duran with your fists so you clowned around and made him quit Ann Hagler beat you easy😂
He didn't make him quit at all he got fed up of chasing you around the ring Cos you wouldn't stand and fight it was same with the hagler fight running don't win fights thats why hagler was robbed.
Ran around the ring like a coward
Well, in the 1st Duran fight he went toe - to - toe and lost, in fight #2 he chickened out from that and won.
If he had some class he would give Duran more credit.
in fight 2 Duran , the great hands of stone, showed his miniature heart... he didn't want to be humiliated any longer.
@@JrJVintage1956humiliated?
Nice try
@@JrJVintage1956if we are playing Pussie. I guess that how u considered a win, who act like a bitch gets to act like a Pussie. Duran wasn’t going to waste his time with a chicken duck
He quit!
@@kelvinbrown8131 he didn’t quit he ain’t no bitch
Pathetic!!!
He quit!
And Duran went on to lose against Benitez, Hagler, Hearns, Pazienza, and Camacho. And some guy named Kirkland Lang.
Duran was SCARED. That’s the only reason somebody quits a fight. He was losing and he knew from the FIRST fight how strong Leanord was in the championship rounds..Ray was going to knock him out!
Why would he be scared of some of he already beat ? Duran wasn’t in good enough shape the fight was rig so Leonard could win.
He wasn’t scared at all. He was out of shape. It was still a close fight because Duran was only losing 2 rounds on the score cards
@@charlesharsha6527 You wrote a boring book, filled with nothing but hearsay and lame excuses.
Well u can say what ever u want but Leonard was asked a week later would you give Duran a rematch and Leonard said no. That was on live TV. I don’t care u believe what I wrote or not.
they set duran up, leonard was great but thats a puss move imo🤷♂️
Ray did not make him quit. He quit because he was out of shape. He wanted to fight him and fair and square. He didn’t get to fight him again until they both were old.
Duran was a great fighter Ray was good but! NOT great even trainer Ray Arcel said it!!!
I never seen so many so called boxing fans defend a quitter and make so many excuses 4 a dude who got destroyed by M Hagler Sugar Ray and let’s not forget The Hitman Hearns almost killed him in the ring Facts💯
Facts
He didnt know the meaning of quit. I think he had diarea or something he was too embarrassed to say
Stop the hate and
Like I said excuses
Cramps? No doubt!
Duran didn’t except it his manager Eleta did and for a certain date , which Eleta got an extra 2 million
FFFFFFFFFFFF LEONARD
That fight was fixed
Duran was a way smaller man can’t you a lot bigger couldn’t punch it out with him😮
Love sugar ray, but Marvin was bull like, that said in every sugar ray fight u could not take your eyes off him, hearns too was fabulous, even at 10 I could understand why these were a golden generation 🇬🇧👍
