My Honest Opinion after 3 Years as a Foreigner Living in the Philippines.

- Опубликовано: 2 апр 2023
- Foreigners can live in the Philippines for 3 years without leaving on a Tourist Visa. You just need to renew every 2 or 6 months for a maximum of 3 years before needing to leave the country. What is the big attraction to living in the Philippines? What does the Philippine have that other countries don't have? Why live or retire to the Philippines? Why choose a big Asian city such as Cebu city rather than live in the province? How do people/retirees spend their time? Retiring in Asia, how would you spend your remaining time on earth?
Low cost of living, diversity, culture, weather, food, scenery, long visas entice foreigners to live in the Philippines. Filipinos are welcome and warm people. Filipinos are often regarded as the most friendliest nation in Asia and nicest people in the world. English is widely spoken throughout the country. The Philippines is included in the top ten English speaking countries in the world. The majority of Filipinos are highly proficient in English, so it is very easy to strike up a conversation and make new friends, but so last century. When you're there you feel like you're stuck in an 80s/90s time warp with the old skool music blaring out and the outdated infrastructure.
Cebu is a vibrant Asian city and favorite travel destination in Asia. Cebu has the best of both world - combining the city life of shopping malls and nightlife with beaches and paradise islands. The Philippines should be on everyone’s bucket list with its beautiful white sand beaches, fabulous idyllic islands, turquoise sea and stunning scenery. The Philippines is a traveller’s paradise and regularly included in top ten favorite places to visit in Asia and affordable, favorite world holiday destination.
Many foreigners/expats choose the Philippines as the best country to retire in Asia and live in paradise. The Philippines is one of the cheapest countries to live in the world with its low cost of living and all year sunshine. Retiring in the Philippines is affordable on a budget of around $520 pcm.

I am not much for being a social tart with the other expats...I never found a group of friendly expats...Unlike you, I didn't do as much traveling in the country but hope that one day when I return God willing, I will be able to get around more.

I bet you do, seriously I worked with Philipinos in the middle east both male and female, generally found them to be hard working, very friendly and great for social parties. It was only the Saudies with their victorian attiude that spoilt things.
thats strange, i was in the philippines for over 10 days and i traveled everywhere, you mean you just sat in your room all the time? wow, seems like a YOU problem
I thought you could stay as long as you want if after 3 years you leave the Philippines and come back.

Well Baguio is designed for its walkways and 18 Celsius weather. Sometimes 12 degrees.
It seems like the majority of expats spend their time in Cebu. I spent most of my time on Luzon. In Pangasinan, the province didn’t have good internet connection. But, Manila did have reliable internet. There are plenty of beach cities around Luzon. I like the beaches, but I am also interested in some mountain cities where it is cooler.
Contemplating Luzon next, although not as far as the chilly north which I won't be able to tolerate. Which places would you recommend visiting?

I love condo living too! I spent 2 months living in Robinson's Place, a hi-rise condo in Manila and it was great. I had an incredible view out the balcony. There was a huge mall downstairs with everything I needed plus a grocery store. One con though was quite a bit of air pollution. I'll try a condo in Cebu next.
Okay, so I'm contemplating condo life in BGC. Your balcony sounds appealing! We can compare notes.
@@BiggWorldCinema BGC is very nice! But expensive too. You should get a lot of YT views from there.
Gary, Cebu is a joke as far as quality of condos. They are on average smaller, cheaply built and lower quality fixtures compared to what you see in Manila. Internet is pretty terrible in Cebu City... even in the acclaimed "IT Park".
If you avoid Cebu City and head to MACTAN you'll roll the dice and possibly get a decent place in Mactan Newtown. However, I lived in 3 units there and all of them had me leaving due to the massive cockroach problem. I live in Makati now and it's a much better standard of living.

Good video and insights. It is hard to find decent beaches anywhere near any major cities. The only exception I know of after years of living in the country is Davao. Samal island is very, very close by and has great beaches.
Hey mate,
I'm planning my first trip to the Philippines and have Daveo in mind. It looks pretty casual ans less tourists like and not too far from a few surf beaches I'd like to check out. Can you recommend any part of Daveo to stay?

@@climber222 Davao is definitely pretty casual compared with the Manila area or even Cebu city. Not a lot of foreigners there so you will stand out bit people are pretty nice there anyway. Be sure and get to Samal island. It is expensive to stay there, but many just do a day trip. I prefer staying somewhere central where you can walk to malls and restaurants. The Oyo chain has many good hotels there. Oyo 604 Chateau Cinco is one of my favorite places to stay.

You're ok mate. Rikay and Bianca says hello 😂😂 Good video. Your very first girl-friend in Mindano was never going to meet up to your expectations. May I ask you a rhetorical question, What happened to the girl who you lived with for 4 months and then dated on and off? She was a good catch I think. She worked, so obviously she was educated to a certain standard. She contributed financially hey presto she was the jackpot I am telling you. My guess is she had severe "Tampo" issues. From my experience, when a filipina shows you Tampo ( gets angry ) it is because you may have irritated them in one way or the other and they do not understand or do not agree. Always remember filipinas are loving and affectionate. Secret solution for Tampo is (give her a hug) give her some reassurance and let her know that you still love her. Problem solved.
I have raised TWO daughters, with younger being very difficult, like here dad was. Dreaded Tampo is just a cultural conditioning.
When daughter said: "You have insulted/upset me, I replied. NO, I can't, YOU did it to yourself. If I would say insults to you in German, just could not get upset. You MUST understand the words and then trigger the learned behavior, YOURSELF."
Also after a BIG fight, I just bear hugged her and said: "NO matter what I said to you, when you managed to make me blow up, I WILL ALWAYS be there for you". Rough road, but we made it.
They have both turned to be fine, smart, educated ladies with good jobs.
I'm just schocked that 99% of all hotels and businesses offer unsecured wifi.. I could be a millionare in 1 year with some hacking skills if i wasn't honest. They don't seem to be bothered by it.
