I could listen to David Hayter narrate a whole documentary all by himself, and in fact I think I need that in my life.
Hayter*
@@vladv5126 lmao, didn't notice autocorrect did me dirty, thanks
gotta be AI but I still agree
He'd be an amazing nature documentary narrator, like Planet Earth.
@@Omahamaho No it's not
David Hayter will always be the real Solid Snake.
His name is in the title and you still typed it wrong lol
@@annarenfold438 😂
When was he not Solid Snake?
Right? Oscar Issac is a great actor, but he's no Solid Snake.
NO! THAT IS NOT SOLID SNAKE!!
If you know. You know.
There's something special about David Hayter reading lost documents.
it's like listening to an old friend
That guy... Always keeps you waiting
😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

Never meet your heroes.
Okay I kinda love the revolver detail though. Looking at it from the perspective that young Ocelot would twirl his revolvers for a comically long time, while with age he learned to tone down his need to make a spectacle of showing off his revolvers
Revolverrrr
“Let me show you why they call me revolver…”
**runs in a circle**
7:01 huh. I always thought he was eating a ration or something but they couldn't animate the item in his hand. It totally looks like he's shoving something invisible into his face and then his health goes up.
Yeah, that's what happening. That drawing was a result of someone trying to prove me wrong and Nihsimura forgetting the purpose of the animation. After I pointed out that Snake's hand clips through his face and the ration noise plays repeatedly, she changed her mind.
Me too
I always saw it as he was sniffing some smelling salts, bringing his focus back to full, and therefore his health.
imagine a "new Super Mario Bros details - ft. Charles Martinet"
That would be insane
I wouldn't watch it cause he sounds awful
I met him in Vancouver a couple months ago along with Hayter, he was really nice.
It would be funny if he sounded like Paarthunax instead of Mario lol
Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes-Yes-Yes-Yes-Yes-Yes-Yes-Yes-Yes-Yes-Yes-Yes!
Getting to hear Snake say "quiet quitting!" was the highlight of my day. Wonderful job as always, Hayter
David Hayter is such a boss.
Ayyoooo
A Big Boss even ;)
a big boss..kinda
He is, in fact, Big Boss!
BOSS?!
0:10 Oh so THAT’S why he’s the Diaper Chief! He didn’t have enough TP!
Snake. Have you ever heard of the Diaper Chief?
Oh God, it is slowly becoming canon
I hoped someone said this
nOOOOO
The enemy of the Diaper Chief... the TP Guard
Metal Gear..... David you are SNAKE, the man, the myth, the legend 🐍😎
Back in 2017, I sent David Hayter some fan mail.
He sent me back a super nice letter with his autograph. It wasn't a template, he talked about what I wrote in detail and it was great!!
Super nice guy!!
Oh, what did you tell him? :D
He replyed me on Tweeter. Can't agree more. He deserves more love and praise.
Kept ya waiting huh
yellow 13
@neringalukoseviciute1787 Now here's something worthy of praise!
Still learning things about this game 25 years later. The 7th shell Vulcan Raven bit I'd never heard before 4:47
I discovered it but didn't know then that it was a secret..was just like huh?..,that's not the usual vid..😅
Things I never knew I wanted: hearing David Hayter say "nuthuts".
Great work as always DYKG! A couple of things here were truly fascinating as a lifelong MGS fan.
Hey, it's Max! :)
But does David know where the sphincter is?
Well I want to hear him talk about the Diaper Chief.
Great facts and loved being it narrated by David.
Thanks DYKG!
2:49 "Quiet Quitting" - so perfect
The wolves peeing on the box is in the American strategy guides. I also remember on GameFAQs people insisting each other to use the trick for Hard and Extreme difficulty modes.
I love that there are still things about this game that I didn't know, even almost 30 years later.
Also, amazing that David Hayter is the one narrating this!
"That TP Guard Tidbit" might be my new favourite David Hayter lines
MGS1 is the most aesthetically good looking and sounding PS1 games ever
Eeeeaaaasily
Happy to hear Hayter back for another MGS DYKG video :)
Pretty dope video. I'm also glad there was a spoiler warning at 14:00 regarding Policenauts. I just started playing the English-patched rom of this yesterday, so kudos for the heads-up. Much appreciated! 👌🏿
this also makes sense for Ocelot's character though! When he was the leader of the ocelot unit, he was a lot more cocky and reckless (which naked snake reprimands him for), and the needlessly long gun twirling is a great way of implying that
10:14 :Funiculars have a pair of counter-balanced carriages while this thing has a single platform.
The way Hayter is saying some of these lines has me rolling
Funny the same chime with darpa chief seen early is used in MGS2 with the President
Met David Hayter during a game festival in Chile. He was super nice and even recorded a video for a friend of mine. Another time when I applied for a job in the german film industry I had a chance to talk to him via Skype and recorded the conversation to show it to my future employer. I got the job thanks to Solid Snake. Absolute legend.
I’m so glad there’s more videos of my favorite series ever
I grew up playing MGS 2 on PS2. I was in Middle School, and barely understood the complexity. I played about a year ago and realized, I still don't comprehend all of it. 😂
It's a video game kidgirl, there is no complexity
@@ramrodbldm9876 So a shadow government with secret factions and groups like foxconn or shadow Moses isn't complex for an 11 year old?
@@ramrodbldm9876
Is that even your own idea? Or just something someone else told you?
This is wonderful! Thanks for getting David to narrate. He's the greatest!
7:20 I always thought it was Snake running his hand over his face showing his weariness from stress during the mission.
Oh David. You know its a party when you seaweed.
The work you guys do is amazing, treating these games like theyre art deserving of being documented, because they are.
Hearing David was a treat.
And a dig to Kojima @8:29!? Nice.
lol it’s probably just a funny fact more than a dig
We have per bom in DS, so is just kojima
The Codec static being the game's code pasted as an image is a clever trick that was also used in the Metroid Prime games with the visor
I always assumed that the 'hug the wall to see the DARPA chief/Octacon' was just something you're supposed to find as part the main path of the game. At this point you've been taught to hug walls like crazy. I found this the very first time I entered the room. Feels odd that it's supposed to be an Easter egg.
The sound of waves detail is insane. Holy smokes.
I can't wait to meet the legendary Solid Snake soon at a convention
the parachute thing blew me away. i been replaying mgs on and off for over 20 years and ive never knew about that
Got damn, this is really cool and interesting! Thank you, Mr. Hayter, and everyone else involved!
2:13 That ultrapolished detail, amazing and rare still to this day
Can't believe they got David Hayter himself to narrate this.
I think it's an AI
@@taylortait1 looking at how David Hayter retweeted the video, big chance it's actually him.
"Kept you waiting, huh?"
There's a deep mening with dark and flight in MGS. When Snake enter the base, it's night. When he leaves, it's day. It's a typical storytelling that struggle is alwaya dark and releath is day.
I think Ocelot twirling his guns longer in MGS3 suited better because he was young. He's still cocky as an older man but does everything with more purpose.
We live in a world where Kojima gets to have all the pee and poop-jokes he want, but not a moment where Otacon gets to be a delightful nerd about snowmobiles. Truly, the darkest timeline.
Though Revolver being less ostenatious about his thwirling as an older man than he was as a little kitten is one of those funny moments where circumstantial events create a form of character development. He learned not to be THAT much of a show-off! Good for him.
I always thought the bit with the cyber ninja was so cool!
the atmosphere with that creepy mumbling, so freakin' cool, I think that whole bit would translate to film really well..
Only a couple of these were new to me as I have religiously played MGS1 since even before its release as I had the demo from PlayStation Magazine. It does amaze me that I still learn new details from these types of videos.
David Hayter narrating MGS videos is top tier.
I always thought the animation when your life increases was supposed to be Snake eating a ration. Great video!
I was lucky enough to meet David Hayter at Comic Con last year. Such a great guy who will do anything for his fans.
Thank you, David (& dykg), by embracing your legacy, everyone can continue to dream & enjoy timeless memories.
12:01 This is an interesting point that happened with DMC3, as well. The original game was all shifted up one difficulty level in the US release, which is why Cerberus was notoriously difficult. The Special Edition rebalanced it back to the original settings and added Very Hard for the previous Hard mode.
13:08 This idea was put into Twin Snakes, where Otacon slips and tumbles down the slope. Man, the more we learn about Kojima it seems like Metal Gear was legendary in spite of him, not because of him.

Am glad Hayter was in this video n glad DYKG is still around. Some of these secrets or EE I found out thx to my older brother.
Fun fact, MGS Integral was released outside Japan - but only on PC. The VR missions did get released separately on Playstation, and obviously Integral has seen many re-releases since then (on PSP, PS3, and PS4 to name only a few) but during the game's "contemporary" period, the combined release was only ever on NTSC-J Playstation and later Windows.
I still have my copy of that version of the game, but getting it to run on modern PCs is a pain in the arse. Without a lot of tinkering, you can't get it to play with hardware 3D rendering on modern systems, and that means you can only use software rendering. A modern CPU will be able to maintain maximum framerate without any problems, unlike CPUs of the time, but the game won't let you set a resolution higher than 640x480 if it's in software mode.
He’s back
This’s so AMAZING hearing the one, the only, the LEGEND David Hayter, Solid Snake himself give facts about Metal Gear Solid, it’s an AMAZING moment in itself! 😌😁 Thank you David Hayter!👏🏻🔥❤️
Lots of interesting info! And all narrated by THE SNAKE!? Two thumbs up 👍🏼 👍🏼
Snake regenerates by clenching his fist?
I always thought he was eating a ration.
7:26
I always thought Snake was taking a super-Ration that added to his health. There goes my 26 year head-canon out the window.
Kept me waiting, huh?
I wonder how many of these made it to Twin Snakes. I love that game, and I know I've seen at least a couple of these in the original release with my own eyes.
one of the most legenndary voices in gaming. love all the dykg videos, thankyou!
David Hayter's most famous and iconic role will always be Snake, but damn do I love him in SWTOR too
It is great that David Hayter is narrating this videos, snake narrating unknown facts from the games so awesome, great work.
I cannot believe I'm still learning new things from this game
FROM SNAKE HIMSELF NO LESS
I am heartbroken that we were robbed of additional Ocelot gun spinning.
I'm still learning things about this game to this day. Amazing.
Love David for doing these, my goat
Honey flash because he put his hand below his ear, but the model looks like it placed it over the neck, the way that cutie honey activates her powers!! Omg! Love this!
I remember I spent like over an hour changing the codec number one by one calling each one. There are so many different things you can hear
I may be one of the only people here that appreciates David Hayter being the Guyver in the second live action movie adaptation they made, and not only was it better than the first, it was overall a very good movie
Having this presented by Hayter is a treat. Thank you.
I never owned a PS1, i had a PS2 and my first MGS game was snake eater. I never played MGS1 or had the opportunity to. I will forever be grateful for the master collection giving me to opportunity to play metal hear solid 1 for the first time.
I was born and raised in Alaska, and I am part Alaska Native. It was so cool playing MGS1 and hearing all the Alaska references
can't get over the fact that Hayter sounds younger now than when he voiced Snake for the first time almost 30 years ago
Seeing the DARPA chief over the wall was known outside of Japan. I knew about it from some magazine or cheat book.
So was the one with Otacon.
Mei Ling getting mad if you repeatedly call but don't save was also known.
0:49 "Some have never been heard before, except by Japanese fans." The video says it's gonna highlight the 40 most interesting codecs, some of them not previously known outside Japan. It doesn't say none of them were known.
Hearing Hayter say "bog roll" is a treat.
It’s so cool that David does these, he’s so cool man!
David Hayter THE Solid Snake ❤ Love it when he voices this DYK episodes! What a treat! Thanks Guys!
Great to hear the legend himself again. If David Hayter is involved, I know I must watch it!
In MY opinion, Metal Gear Solid 1 is still my favorite in the series! I already knew everything in this fact video! THAT'S how much I love the game! I never get tired of hearing facts about my favorite MGS game! And I never get tired of hearing David Hayter! I'm SO GLAD Konami decided to bring back Hayter to reprise his role in MGS Delta! YOU ARE THE ONE AND ONLY SNAKE! HAYTER! YOU ARE MY CHILDHOOD! THANK YOU!!!
I've posted tons of MGS cheats and secrets on GameFAQs over the last couple of decades. I didn't know about the wave sound effect, though. Interesting detail!
I put David Hayter in the same basket as Mark Hamill. He is an iconic actor and is alway great with his fans and is also takes his character very seriously.
Having Hayter do these is just the best 👏
7:29 I always thought Snake was smoking a cigarette during those parts.
It's crazy to me that it took Kojima leaving Konami for Hayter to come back to the franchise. Granted, MGS Delta isnt using new recordings, but Hayter is involved with the promotion of the game and that's still more than i thought we'd get after MGSV.
After each battle I always thought it was just snake eating a ration.
Apparently that is indeed the case and there was some miscommunication leading to a mistake
I learned recently that Johnny (in the jail section) could give you his cold when you grab him to knock him out. Then when snake got the cold, there are special conversations with the team talking about that cold, to find the medicine.
These are so cool, thank you
I always wondered if the idea of Ninja using the subway stop names was an homage to old Hollywood films that had incorrect or nonsensical foreign language bits added in for effect, way back before audiences were primed to look into those sorts of things.
Was that bandanna fact meant to be in the next part, the part about MGS2?
Because in MGS1, the bandanna is just a texture on Snakes head, it doesnt have the two ends flowing of it until the next game.
10:33 Oddly enough, Valve was in the making of their own shaft inspired by Akira at the same time for Half-Life.
It's interesting to see how far and fast media inspired creativity will travel
I'm amazed by the fact that I almost found all the curiosities and eggs that are told in the video.
11:50 - this happens in a lot of games that get released in America as well
Bare Knuckle 3 (known as Streets of Rage 3 in the US) was much easier than its US counterpart. Like with MGS, Bare Knuckle 3’s hardest difficulty was on par with Streets of Rage 3 on Easy Mode
4:32 - Instructions Unclear, Snake now 200% more Badass
MGS1 is GOAT.
Ahead of its time, GOAT at gameplay, GOAT at boses, GOAT at graphics, GOAT at easter eggs, GOAT at story, GOAT at coolness, GOAT at ambience, and GOAT at boxes
Need a kojima led MGS CGI movie just so we can have hayter as snake for a whole hour plus
That would be great but they have both said they don't want to work with each other anymore.
@@OtakuUnitedStudiosource?
Kojima is over MGS and I don't think he's interested in making films. He also apparently never liked Hayter for Snake. Best bet is a Netflix animated series
David Hayter you're the GOAT, thanks for narrating this, and to DidYouKnowGaming for another great video.❤
Never thought I’d hear David Hayter say “pooping”.
I actually knew a lot of these just from playing the game so much as a kid. Thanks to the devs and thanks to David hayter for making this game so memorable.
It's really cool David's always willing to do this.
Kinda makes me want Ray Chase or Benjamin Diskin to narrate the next Kingdom Hearts video lol
