This is a collection of every Metal Gear Solid series fact that I have released thus far. In celebration of the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection releasing soon, I wanted to refresh some videos in the series. Enjoy!
First of all, the fact it happened in the past can't be changed. And second, there are still rules, even in a war. One rule is to not harm non-participants/civilians.
Here's a weird fact everybody gets kinda wrong about MGS3 that I spent way too much time researching: So many people claim that Volgin's phrase "kuwabara kuwabara" means "mulberry field" and it's a protective, superstitious chant designed to protect a person from lightning because according to legend, mulberry trees don't get struck by lightning. When I first heard this I thought "Okay, that's cool... but what legend are they referring to?" And researching this became a nightmare. Some people claim it originates from a 9th century Japanese aristocrat called Sugawara no Michizane who admittedly, had a very interesting life... but people claim he ruled over a land called 'Kuwabara' and was exiled after a whole bunch of political conflict. After dying, his spirit was said to throw lightning bolts at those who wronged him as part of his vengeance except he never struck Kuwabara (his home turf) and so people began saying "Kuwabara, Kuwabara" in hopes that Michizane would be hesitant to lightning strike them. This is all well and good... but I can't find any evidence that Sugawara no Michizane actually ruled over a land called Kuwabara except for uncorroborated claims. But it gets weirder still because there is a famous writer in Japan called Moku Jōya who is famous for writing about Japanese culture and he wrote a book called "Japan and things Japanese" which explains the origin differently. He claims that Kuwabara was a village in the Izumi province of the Osaka prefecture (which technically does still exist today although Google maps just sends you to a random bus stop) and that... a bolt of lightning fell into a well in the village and the villagers managed to capture it. They basically negotiated with this bolt of lightning and said they would release it if it promised to never strike the village of Kuwabara again. During research, there were also a bunch of people who claimed that a historical figure known as "Mr Kuwabara" was famously afraid of lightning... or something... I dunno, it gets really weird the deeper you look into it. The bottom line is that it doesn't seem like anybody really knows for sure. The idea that a village known as Kuwabara became impervious to lightning is why people think Mulberry trees have something to do with the legend (because thats what the translation says) but this doesn't seem to be the case. It'd be like if you went to a village called "Daffodil" and you found out that nobody ever got sick there and so you assume that daffodils prevent people from getting sick... somehow. Even if they don't grow daffodils in "Daffodil". There is no evidence that Kuwabara was famous for its Mulberry trees... it might have just been named that for arbitrary reasons or reasons that became outdated as time went on. I spent way too much time on this but I do know that... guess what... Mulberry trees aren't immune to lightning... because why would they be? I even found a video of one being struck by lightning lol.
this is some genuinely valuable research, dude. though it comes up inconclusive, this is very telling on the many iterations of Japanese folk tales. especially that there are iterations on this particular one.
@@tom_k_cook I'm being serious when I say this is just the tip of the iceberg. This rabbit hole runs deep and I found a whole bunch of other theories that have no official sources. I tried to condense my findings as best I could but I'm not kidding when I say this was simultaneously fascinating and frustrating lol. The reason I began looking into it is because so many videos on RUclips made the exact same claim of "according to legend..." and never specified what legend, like we were supposed to take it at face value like source: trust me bro. When you actually look into it, it's crazy haha.
I'm after doing some research myself and it turns out that mulberry trees are only native to west Asia, China and the Eastern United States....but there are mulberry trees on a Japanese island that are highly regarded for the wood quality
cool research friend. seems to me like one of those urban legends or little stories the kids like to spread around, while the origins might be true, its been spread around so much and other groups of kids have added their own flair to the story that, over time, its true origins become forgotten, but what remains is the ritual or the legend itself

In the opening tanker area of MGS2, one of the dog tags you can get off a guard is for Jean-Luc Cougar, protagonist of "poor's man's Metal Gear solid" shooter WinBack: Covert Operations on the N64 & later PS2. Cool nod to a fabulous game, one of my childhood favorites.
15:29 Another fun detail is if you've eaten spoiled food, you can spin Snake around until he pukes to "cure" the food poisoning. I'm pretty sure guards and dogs will react to the puke puddle if they find it too.
I have come to notice no one ever mentions when shaking Ocelot for items the first time you encounter him in MGS3, he drops 1 item, and only 1 item. A single 'Mouse trap'... Kojima is letting it be known right out of the gate.. Ocelot is the rat.

Knowing they usually take old prototypes from the pre war U.S such as the X-01 becoming the advanced power armor then on the same series of armor was the mk.3 or the armor in 3 and the hell fire armor. So a large war machine like liberty prime could be retrofitted and be more advanced than when the Brotherhood used him.
Hell yeah man! Knew you'd drop one of these collection vids since the new mgs collection is coming out. Since I was a little kid Metal Gear Solid was my favorite franchise Long before I ever experienced fallout, or any Bethesda games
The twin snakes had great voice acting. I can’t help but notice that fox wasn’t mentioned in this. I feel like this is more a case of someone falling so I love with the original that any deviation, even a good one, is seen as heresy

Every dialogue difference between MGS1 and twin snakes is the biggest case for the appropriate amount of poetic freedom in translation I've ever seen in my life. Every single adaptation in MGS1 original elevates the dialogue.
27:00 if you've ever played the demo version of metal gear solid on the Pizza Hut demo disc then you remember that Sean Barker was also credited on there as well.
I dont actually know how many game overs it takes for Ocelot to change his tune as even with my subpar skills at this game i don't get more than 2 or 3 game overs on the fight also let me just say i love that mask its so cool
One “Easter egg” or hidden function of the Codec screen in MGS2 I literally never hear anyone talk about is that pressing one bumper makes Raiden’s internal monologue audible to the positive, and the other makes Raiden think negatively… So when Campbell is talking Raiden will either say “yeah right.” “That’s crazy.” “I don’t believe this!” Or press the other bumper and he’s like “hm yeah…” “I guess so” “that makes sense.” And when Rose contacts you sometimes it’s like “you’re so lovely” and crap like that.
It seems to have no practical purpose in gameplay, I haven’t played through the game pressing the “positive” reaction bumper the whole time to go along with Campbell and the Patriots Ai and the S3 plan… having a more “sheeple” mentality. But who would want to go along with GWs crazy shyte? So idk if it does anything to any later cutscenes. It does however give you a little window into Raiden’s internal thoughts, but also lets you choose which mindset he embodies.
I have a fun fact for you, I am sure you gathered by my screenname that I am a fan of Metal Gear, one time I played MGS1 for 24 hours straight to see if they actually did anything knowing how many secrets there were in the game, sadly there is nothing for the 24hrs I guess they assumed no one would be as insane as I am.
23 years later and MGS (especially MGS2) ::STILL:: manages to surprise me. It’s little special details like rare interactions between guards sneaking up on eachother is what makes this a series like no other. Details anyone else that isn’t Kojima & Co. could never imagine. MGS was my favorite series ever. But KojiPro not making it just isn’t the same. But good luck to the next developer.

😮 i remember on old game cheat websites in 1999, seeing guides that said to shoot the mantos statues to easily beat him, but they never mentioned the codec convo part, and i spent lots of time failing to shoot the statues up, so much that i thought it was a hoax up until seeing this video
It's a mixture of two things, modification of the cutscenes, and the gameplay additions. The cutscenes were changed to make them nore like action movies, which made them feel less real, less grounded, and less genuine. It felt a lot more goofy in comparison. Next, the game was made with the PS1 version's controls and limitations in mind, but it wasn't really changed to fit the gameplay additions of MGS2's engine, meaning a lot of the gameplay got trivialized, especially certain bosses.
Beat the hell out of almost every single metal gear solid game aside from the GameCube version. I really need to go back and play through the GameCube version since it was the one version I always wanted when MGS2 came out. "Imagine if they redid part 1 but with MGS2 graphics" I'd always say to myself and yet they did lol.
I don't know what i did for thiis to happen but not just 1 person was i. there underwear everyone was, any idea how tf that happened, only ever once my very first play through
Shalashaska is a far more skilled than your average genome soldiers which is why Grey fox switches up his sword grip he only does this when fighting ocelot or snake but I've been a fan of metal gear since I was a kid plus Meryl is a lying about that psycho therapy to destroy her interest in men bc she fell for snake after like 1 phone call either snake is the rizz god or she just easy but this rabbit hole is worth exploring it's not fair how they did Kojima at the end
jheeze I know you gotta fill an hour but the first 5 minutes the clips just run on too long, instead of highlighting the parts that change, you seem to just show the entire cutscene start to end

There is a legit use for making snake vomit in MGS3, if you eat poison or spoiled food you can cure him by doing that.
