Solid iceberg video! I saw your comment on my latest iceberg and thought I'd snoop around your channel when I found this, and man it's great! Keep it up man!
Bro thank you for using my clip for the sorrow!!! I remember recording it when I was in High school! I remember when I saw him I couldn’t find anyone else showing that he was in the game, so I naturally just recorded it and posted it to show the kids at school I wasn’t lying!
I remember renting Metal Gear Solid and not having Meryls codec frequency, so I went to Walmart and asked to look at the CD case. Wrote it down on some receipt paper they gave me, went home, and wrote it in sharpie on the actual CD. You're welcome, whoever that helped.
Legend. Had that case in parents attic. Bought the digital version on presale and rather than Google like I should have, I landed to homestead at stupid o'clock to root in attic at even more stupid o clock. When the angry siblings realised what I was up to 2 helped me look. And 1 searched for alcohol food and espresso coffee, to get a marathon session going that every 15mins someone got tagged in. God to give up the spot in middle of a boss was frustrating.
As a kid playing MGS, I would always get the "bad ending" since i wasn't good enough to beat the torture scene. But playing as an adult, i had to submit on purpose because i actually prefer that ending. I love the emotion that David Hayter gets out of the monologue he does "...I sold your soul to save my own!" makes me tear up every time.
There's a neat secret codec call that you only get by fulfilling these conditions during the torture sequence: -Win the first round of torture -Have codec call in the cell -Lose second round of torture -Have codec call in the cell Like you, I wasn't good enough to stand the torture when I was a kid, but when I finally could beat all rounds by myself, I used the codec after every round to see if something changed. Then I failed the second round on purpose and had a codec call. I was surprised, because the call starts with "Enclosure" playing and then Snake starts talking about how worthless he is for giving up. It then transitions to the talk about Big Boss, like usual.
Plus I just love everything about the last scene as Snake and Otacon ride away together. It was the beginning of the ultimate "bromance" and honestly is just one of the most satisfying endings I've ever seen.
little correction: kojima is still mentioned in master collection, his name and the nametag "A Hideo Kojima Game" are still present mgs1-mgs3 whenever you boot up a game and check it's logo (mgs2, mgs3). And the nametag "A Hideo Kojima Game" is still present in the opening credits of mgs1-mgs3. Honestly man, we should just let go of all of these konami controversies. It's almost 2024, it's been nearly 10 years since all of this happened. Half of the "we love cashgrab" konami management was thrown out of the studio after survive became a flop, and ever since 2019 konami has been planning a return to the gaming industry. Tbh, it's going... ehh... quite mid for them, but i hope this is only a hiccup for something greater for us metal gear fans in the future (master collection with mgr, portable ops, the great spin-offs and mgs4? hell yeah!)
The addition of Venom Snake actually works well for Metal Gear 1 and 2 from a story point of view. Since Big Boss would've kind of had to have been outside of Outer Heaven to send in Solid Snake to begin with in MG1, I would imagine the real Big Boss is out there openly handling FOXHOUND and you talk to him for the first half or so of the game, but then as Big Boss switches frequency partway through the game it probably shifts over to Venom Snake on the radio allowing for Big Boss to escape off to Zanzibar Land as Solid Snake is getting more likely to succeed.
@@WesDoesGames you didn't even cover all the times we know that happened, he originally wanted Raiden to have a character trait of eating pigeon poop and once again had to be talked out of it
I think the reason so many people have a hard time believing Huey is guilty is because Huey is effectively Otacon and Otacon is great and a bro so we want the same to be true for Huey because it's hard to believe someone who reminds us so much of Otacon would be a horrible person.
Which makes Otacon all the more greater, a dude so cool - you even try to redeem his absolutely iredeemable shitbag of a Dad, despite Otacon himself talking down about his father on multiple occasions. Yet Otacon is still so cool - you subconciously can't believe he could have a close relative Who is this awful.
It doesn't help that Kaz clearly isn't interested in hearing what Huey has to say unless it is a confession and is willing to torture him as long as it takes to hear what he wants.
but miller was the traitor. hes why he lies "i cant believe we ever bought that cover story" even tho in PW he tells big boss straight up he knew the entire time at the end of the game. Brainwashing V and blowing up Motherbase was apart of that plan. GZ was actually V being brainwashed. We dont play as Big boss in GZ. Its insane. and the game gets even crazier. huey is def not a good guy but he was the scape goat. 56:08 Miller says what when you rescue him? "no use for me" hes not talking bout you. Skull Face. Why do you think he wants revenge on Skull Face? Miller and Skull Face teamed up. Miller played us like a fiddle this entire time. "I knew of paz and his true identity all along" and you brought them from colombia? "guilty as charged" MGS V GZ "Cant believe we ever bought that cover story" oh btw i meant huey was innocent to a point. not COMPLEETLY innocent. i mean he helped build salehenathropus for skull face even if he was help prisoner. so thats why i say what i did.
Another cool thing about Snake Vs Monkey is that Ape Escape 3 returned the favor. If you beat AE3 (which I did), you can buy a mini game titled Mesal [sic] Gear Solid, which is a quite fleshed-out homage to Metal Gear, but with everyone including Snake being a Pipo Monkey.
As a kid I was so bad at the button mashing section of MGS1, the Meryl dying ending was the only ending I knew for years. I think I cried when I finally managed to save her life years later.
This is probably one of the best edited icebergs I’ve ever seen. Most people just use the iceberg as a quick easy long video that they just talk and go down a list with some background footage for a quick upload. Also I played the 3DS version of snake eater it was great I highly enjoyed being able to crouch
My favorite theory for MGSV is from PythonSelkan, where Ishmael is actually just a figment of Venom’s psyche. Basically, Ishmael is just Venom’s instincts as a soldier and involuntary movements, which is why Ishmael isn’t seen after throwing the silencer and stops moving in the ambulance when the horn is shot. Ishmael is all that is left of The Medic after undergoing hypnogogia and psychotherapy.
And the fact that when he gives you the handgun and tells you he will shot the guy on the left and you the guy on the right he doesn't even fire his weapon
I'm genuinely surprised there were fun little easter eggs and secrets I didn't know about all these years being in the metal gear fandom. What a joy this was to watch and great job!
You can get Meryl's codec number without looking on the back of the jewelcase. If you select and unselect the disk item you get over and over again the next time you.check your codec numbers Meryls will be there.
@@shaunslaughter2589 I think a lot of people did because so many other outlets published the same information. Seems like a case of collective misremembering; or more likely, people didn't remember it to begin with because they never saw it. Anyone remember the running gag where Ghandi was a war monger in the Civilization franchise due to a coding error in the early games? It did not become widespread news until decades later that the origin of that gag was also false.
I like to think that Chico became Jungle Evil, a boss Solid Snake faces in Zanzibar Land due to Chico telling Snake in a videotape that he wanted to be an explorer or hunter of rare species (I don't remember exactly which one).
Another thing about the Moby Dick thing, Queequeg is also a thing in Moby Dick, only briefly is it seen in the Phantom Pain but they are another helicopter pilot that makes his first appearance when you find and fight Sahalenthropus for the first time. (As of typing this, it is also a star wars character apparently.)
@@WesDoesGames The son of a South sea chieftain apparently. The first principal character encountered by the narrator, Ishmael. Only briefly seen in MGSV.
The "message from the parasites" I thought was because its very subtly hinted that Miller is the person who betrayed mother base in ground zeros. When I was first playing the game, I was sure Miller was the traitor and then that message solidified it for me. Huey is a weasel but I don't think he would betray snake
While it does make sense, i can hardly believe that Miller was working with Skull Face to tear down his own base. Because of his own demise and quest for revenge in Phantom Pain.
@@Noctuam734You can hear a voice that suspiciously sounds like Miller's actor on one of the collectible tapes in GZ. Remember, Huey doesn't admit to being in on Skullface's plan despite the torture and multiple truth serum injections. Sure, he helped the "inspection" team aboard, but he may have been just another victim of the ruse. His only real crime against Venom is keeping the location of OKB Zero secret until the end of Chapter 1, so a lie by omission. Kaz basically pins the blame for the GZ attack on him, because there is nobody left to say otherwise.
Great video, but I do have to mention something that people seem to easily miss... In MGS4, Ocelot out-right admits that the whole arm possession is pure fake. I think it's him telling you during the last fight with him, or actually Big Boss tells you at the end of MGS4... The long and sort of it was, Ocelot went under hypnotism so he would act out the whole thing, in order to throw the Patriots. I can't exactly tell you WHY they went with that plan, probably to sell the whole Liquid coming back and trying to take over idea, hiding Ocelot as a BB fanboy who's there to release him in the first place... I see a lot of people seem to ignore or forget this part of the lore.
I think people ignore it because it's absurd. Like the Patriots can read his thoughts so he needs to be hypnotized? Wouldn't they notice him seeing a hypnotist for several weeks at a time?
rlly enjoyed how you pieced together this iceberg video, the editing gave some sort of classified information vibe that we weren't supposed to know, kind of how the overall franchise feels with all of its very in depth lore and the overall theorising around very obscure topics or plot points. crazy how even after the series has been well over concluded, we can still feel like there's something yet to be dug out, that phantom pain will keep on lingering
I can never relate to the people who were upset about the twist in MGSV. I feel like these are the same people were upset that Raiden was the protagonist in MGS2. You can just never do anything fun in this series without stepping on these people's toes. I think the way MGSV loops back to the original Metal Gear is great, and I had a fun time in the Raiden arc too.
Regarding the Meryl codec frequency, I used to rent Metal Gear Solid from Hollywood Video, and the rental boxes they provided for their games had an insert with that game's basic controls and occasionally they would have hints. The hint they included was Meryl's codec frequency.
Awesome video. I really appreciated your slightly more grounded take on the iceberg meme format. Most iceberg videos act as if every goofy topic has to be taken as gospel, and it's refreshing hearing someone be slightly more critical of the fan conspiracy BS icebergs are often rife with.
Because Chico was conceptualized as having a role in the game I like to think the idea has been that he is alive at least even he ended up not getting implemented in the game. However I don’t quite understand what he would want revenge against boss for? Chico could’ve been interesting to me if he was sort of like MGSVs cyber ninja- not literally but just has the same sort of interaction with boss that Snake has with Grey Fox, an assassin who both helps and hinders the protagonist, for a long while no one can tell who’s side he is really on before finding out the mysterious figure has a intégrele link to our protagonists past
Big Boss was pretty much responsible for all of the terrible stuff that happened in Chico's life from Peace Walker onwards. With all the best intentions (the worst things are done) Big Boss dragged a young boy into a life of never ending war and hardship even if merely by association, this life would cost him everyone he knew and loved. Poor kid's gotta have some crazy PTSD
@@DjDolHaus86 I can see why they originally wanted him in the game- with all the themes surrounding child soldiers he would’ve been the perfect ugly painting of the future of the child soldiers.
If anything, the amazing thing that I found out in MSGV Ground Zero was there were already hints as to you are in fact NOT playing as Big Boss at the get go cause during one of the conversation that Kaz was having with Big Boss as he was sneaking around to find Paz and Chico was him mentioning that he could not believe that Paz was a double Agent (something along the line but I can't really remember what he said exactly) but he in fact revealed to Big Boss that he knew from the start during the ending of Peace Walker. So the theory is, you are playing as Venom Snake in his version of the incident since they can imprint false memories on to people and possibly also why David Hayter was not asked to return to voice Big Boss is to avoid the big reveal and also this is all remember by the Medic so this is played back in his head even through some of the things are played on cassette tapes at the end of the Phantom Pain
I think Kaz is simply playing that he just found out about Paz being a spy when he actually knew much earlier. To reveal that he knew about it already would reveal he had worked with Cypher, which I believe he was keeping a secret at that point
this is literally the best executed iceberg video i’ve ever watched. your asides were entertaining, informative, and often hilarious. your writing is very natural and easy to follow. such polish is hard to find on a niche video about a video game. your voice work is engaging and follows the beats of your script perfectly. your sources are well-integrated. your clip selection and general editing elevates the script perfectly. your audio and sound engineering belies its medium with its quality. 10/10 will watch again while falling asleep
Great video. As a die hard Metal Gear fan this was very enjoyable! On a side note, I thought the Venom snake twist at the end of Phantom Pain was mind blowingly good, I'll never forget that moment.
I thought the game ended before that mission and stopped playing. A week later I saw an article on it and got found out that way, I still went back to the game anyway to see it. Oh well
One point against Chico being Quiet is that, besides English (which she cant safely speak) Quiet only knows Dine and can communicate w Code Talker. If she were Chico (who is Cuban) she would know Spanish aswell and could talk with Ocelot.
This was great! Man, I miss metal gear so bad. I really hope they find someone to make more Metal gear games someday. Hopefully they remake all the games at some point too.
Thank you for not fluffing your video by using basic plot points as entries in the first two tiers, and using legitimate Easter eggs that many people aren’t aware of
There's a subtle time skip in the middle of the scene where Venom is looking in the mirror, indicated by the light color changing. The patch on his uniform also changes I believe
@@Randy.BobandyYou can also see the DD emblem on the wall change to an Outer Heaven logo, blew my mind when I saw it on youtube years after playing the game, because my brain just kind of shut down by that point in the game
Great iceberg man! I've been fan of the series for almost 17 years now and didn't expect to learn anything new, but there were actually a few things I didn't know :)
I never get tired of MGS videos. I became a fan as a little kid watching my dad play the first one on PS1, then when I got a little older, he bought me a PS2 along with MGS2&3 and I’ve loved the games for over 20 years. These games are super amazing but partly the reason I love them is because of my dad. Thanks for your video! I love hearing about this facts and conspiracies and what you think of them as well. You did a great job covering so much.
50:57 It’s explained at the end of Metal Gear Solid 4 that Ocelot used hypnotic suggestion to become Liquid’s mental doppelgänger, though it’s not entirely impossible that he’s a psychic considering he might be The Sorrow’s son.
Remember the guy in the tape that said "just give her the shot already? That was most likely Miller. In the very least, voiced by the same actor. Then there's also Codetalker who gave Venom the warning "Eyes on Kazuhira". Which gives the idea that Miller was working with Skull Face up until just hours before the events of Ground Zeroes. Unfortunately I got nothing else on that topic.
I remember the rumors about Chico being Quiet. A good piece of evidence that supported it that you didn't mention is how soldiers who felt guilt resorted to self mutilation, like the Eye and the Finger from Ground Zeroes. Fans at the time thought Chico could have resorted to that because of the guilt of him being forced to... do things to Paz.
I just thought it was a meme and found it funny. I don't think it was ever actually onto anything or meant to be taken seriously. Like Miller being the sunglasses
Great video! I was a massive MGS fan over 10 years ago and haven't really gone back to it since. This popped up in the ol' algorithm randomly and I ended up watching to the end. Appreciate the good work! All the best with future videos.
Yo this was awesomely edited, and researched. You even taught me some things I didn't know! (Seriously the Liquid Ocelot thing seems so freaking obvious now, Especially since I already knew The Sorrow was (probably) his father. why didn't I realize it sooner?)
Man, I'm Brazilian and I love Kojima's game franchise and I feel like this iceberg made me understand a lot more about the game! Thank you very much I loved it❤
I was so grateful for that skateboarding bonus game. Healed my depression, especially when I learned the Christ Air trick! I always found it stunning. I also loved Pro Skater 3 but never owned it
1:01:05 I never interpreted Huey taking Emma in the pool with him as just Huey not wanting to die alone. I always thought it was obvious Huey was trying to hurt Hal as deep as possible and he knew how close Hal and Emma were.
I think the Miller working for Cypher is the ground zero stuff. His voice being in the interrogation part with paz and chico. Plus the way he inaccurately states the night of meeting paz in ground zeros and how he fell for her student gag. He knew all along that she was with Cypher at the end of pw. Downes liked a tweet about it or something. Love mgs lore!
Wait a minute! You never addressed that Pliskin Guy! When do we get to see him again? Why did he look like Snake? Could he have been a 4th twin? Quadruplets?
Submitting the torture and finishing the game gave a unique item I think it was the stealth mode to equip, amd resisting the torture gave you inf bullets as long as you have it equipped but both cannot be equipped at the same time.
Yep that's right ^,^ It could be the opposite way around but yeah you do get either Steath Camo or Infinite Bandana for NG+ depending on how you react to the torture. It was all about the Dog Tags in MGS2 and shooting those little Waka-Waka frog fellas in Snake Eater. Then the Statues you'd find after beating bosses including the frogs, with non leathal weapons iirc.
Watching these videos makes me lament not being introduced to metal gear when I was younger. Only learned about this series when it was already on its last legs.
The End has the most possible ways to fight that I have seen in any game. You can kill him early in the chair with a sniper, use your clock to outlive him, snipe it out with him using glints to spot him, you can chase him down using his bird and footprints to find him, and with the hunt and chase version you can kill him or "freeze" him with the shotgun to get his cammo. The Ends fight amazed me as a kid, I used to keep a save just before his fight just to try stuff.
Two things... Code Talker might've been trying to tell Venom about Kaz's burger industry. And i can't believe you left out the earliest warning of Huey's bastardry. He doesn't believe in Santa and mocks Big Boss for his belief.
Great Video! In my country (Brazil) games like Metal Gear are know, but don't sell well due to the history being gigantic and most of the population doesn't know how to speak or read english, but Metal Gear Solid V Phantom Pain was subtitled in portuguese, and was the most sold game of the franchise on Brazil. Also, this saga is as important to me as it is for my father, he had an Sega Genesis (Megadrive) an Sega Saturn that didn't turn on, and an PS2, the first game he rented was Metal Gear Solid 2 Sons of Liberty, he was so into the game, the realism, the details that he talked to the person who rented to buy the game, making it the first game he had on the Sony PS2, and this game being one of the first games that i saw he playing. along with GTA San Andreas (wich was responsible for one of my first words "GTA"), Resident Evil 4, and this game made part of my growth. The Metal Gear saga, Skyrim, Fallout New Vegas, and Halo Reach on the Xbox Live was the reason i learned English. Hugs from Brazil!!!
Ocelot wasnt a conduit for liquids soul, he put himself through psychotherapy and hypno therapy to change his personality to that of liquids , similar methods were used on venom snake when he was in his coma .
Also on the topic of Portable Ops: that game needs more love. Yes the controls are shitty, yes recruitment is tedious, but otherwise I love the story. I think it needs a remake too, with an expanded story that accommodates the new lore introduced in Peace Walker, 4, and V.
Portable Ops but with Peace Walker HD controls and graphics would be hella fun. Wish Sony never gave up on the handheld, but I guess they just weren't selling enough units.
@@Sean-sn9ld The PSP actually did well enough, it was the Vita that PlayStation abandoned before it had a chance to really prove itself. That console didn’t even get its own title, just a port of the HD Collection
@@morsecode980 Oh yeah you're spot on there, I meant to say "handheld market" lol 😆 But yeah around the time the vita came out I had a lot going on IRL so wasn't really paying much attention to the video game world and by the time I was again the Vita was already basically dedz :( I was thinking of picking one up like last year or something but I think I read somewhere that they stopped all the online services so couldn't even play with my friends back home ( I moved overseas as a teen) Have you got one/had one in the past? If so do you think it's worth getting one just for the games? I like to play my psp and DS Lite when I'm on long train trips or taking the ferry back home or something like that. Vita deffo LOOKS cool. But not sure if it's worth the investment or if I'd be better off just saving a bit extra and get a switch. Breath of the Wild looks amazing
@@Sean-sn9ld Yeah I have a 1000 (the fat one with the OLED screen.) It’s not completely dead, you can still access the PS Store to purchase games and whatnot but you can only add money to your account via the PS website or a PS4/5 now. Most people get them to hack/home brew, except for me 😂 I’m easy to please because the Vita has a Call of Duty that surprisingly still has active servers. It’s kinda nostalgic because it’s basically Black Ops 1 multiplayer shrunk down. Besides that, most people play the Vita for its Japanese indie games. If you want AAA experiences it’s pretty limited unfortunately. There’s CoD, Uncharted, Killzone, Assassin’s Creed, MGS HD Collection, and Minecraft (also with still somewhat active online,) but that’s kinda it. One PSP game I highly recommend playing on Vita though is the port of Battlefront 2. Natively, the framerate’s pretty choppy, but on Vita it’s buttery smooth as if you were playing on PS2. That and MGS Portable Ops because the second stick makes a world of difference.
Really great video! The Ocelot quadruple double stuffed Oreo agent made me laugh. Also I was just gonna point out that we technically first hear of Huey as Granin’s American colleague in mgs3. But of course that’s not really a major detail to the Huey section
I was always confused if that reference in Granin's office was retconned or not. I vaguely remember it first being Otacon's grandpa, then later changed to Huey.
I'm here late but just wanted to say I found it so funny when you mentioned meryls codec being a headache for renting the game, because as soon as you started talking about it I instantly was transported back to my brother and I screaming at the TV because we had no idea how to find her codec due to the game coming in just a regular old videoshop case. Eventually my dad had to call the store for us and the store owner had kept the OG case so he was able to tell my dad it down the phone. Core gaming memory that just couldn't happen in todays world.
In regards to Miller working for Cypher the whole time, I think this is a sound theory. I think one doesn’t choose not to work for Cypher anymore, so like it or not, Miller was a Patriots pawn. Also, he spent a considerable amount of time in FOXHOUND, an American (cypher) special forces group, training their agents. When Big Boss defects in the 90’s, Miller stays with FOXHOUND and helps Campbell train and support field agents. Miller is a lifelong company man.
Miller willingly worked with Cypher in secret until the end of Peace Walker. From then until the end of The Phantom Pain he was out for revenge against Cypher, but when he finds out the true plans of what the real Big Boss was up to, he felt he was betrayed because of all the hell he went through just to find out it was all for nothing. The post credit scene at the end of Phantom Pain explains it all. Miller was so pissed off at Big Boss that he decided to work with Cypher again to train his clones and Venom to get back at them. Sure, he’s killed by Liquid, but ultimately, he won because the young man he trained (Solid Snake) puts an end to everything.
This is a pretty excellent summary. The theory I've heard pitched originally was that Miller never stopped working for Cypher after Peace Walker. I guess he does end up going back to work for them indirectly later on, but during Phantom Pain at very least he's definitely not on their side.
Watching this a year after you dropped it, and Delta is coming out next year. I’m currently at the 21:13 mark, and with the knowledge we have now you hit the nail on the head with Jodi Benson!
Fun fact about the guy savage minigame, in your memory card, MGS3 saves are a bouquet of white flowers, if you check your memory card right before going into your save to the minigame the flowers are red, so if you want a guy savage save to load at anytime you can always tell
Great video. Metal gear has been my favorite series ever due to its wild story and insane concepts. After all these years we are still trying to decode it all !!! 😂
48:02 Yuji Horii's "Portopia Renzoku Satsujin Jiken" (The Portopia Serial Murder Case) NEC PC-6001 cassette tape data loader sound found by dataminers included in Metal Gear Solid V The Phantom Pain's Episode 46 Truth The Man Who Sold The World ending cutscene has been removed/changed with the original Hideo Kojima's "Metal Gear" game for the MSX by Konami because it was a clue... not a mistake... Another reason why a lot of fans thought Chico would become Quiet was from one of the tapes you receive in Ground Zeros. It was the recording from the torture session and you heard Paz telling a whimpering Chico to "be quiet."
it's the second iceberg I've tried to follow in my life and this time I haven't dropped out on like 5th minute, so I guess it's great)) also I've knew most of the facts but it was still an interesting ride, so thanks for the video!^^

12:05 An additional point: all the Beauties try to grab you suggestively, usually hugging and caressing you. If you lay on the floor (or on the beds in the Laughing Beauty arena,) they’ll straddle you, and when you try to wiggle yourself free, they um…make certain noises, especially Laughing Beauty on the bed. It’s really weird, and in my opinion completely takes away from the actual fights, which are already not that great since they just reuse assets from previous bosses.

I think you're right about all of that
its really silly how many times a fun fact is "Kojima wanted to do something weird and dumb but thank god his staff talked him out of it"
Well put
@@WesDoesGames you didn't even cover all the times we know that happened, he originally wanted Raiden to have a character trait of eating pigeon poop and once again had to be talked out of it
Oh god..
Well, in a world after Death Stranding, we can clearly see what happens when they DON'T talk him out of these things...
@@beetheimmortal yeah, we get a Package simulator with the air of Oscar bait movie and a budget to match
Like others mentioned, I think Huey being a jerk heightens Otacons arc. He's overcoming the sins of the father
Otacon pretty much tells us in MGS2 his dad was morally bankrupt so I don’t see why anyone would have trouble hating Huey.
but miller was the traitor. hes why he lies "i cant believe we ever bought that cover story" even tho in PW he tells big boss straight up he knew the entire time at the end of the game.
"I knew of paz and his true identity all along"
and you brought them from colombia?
"guilty as charged"
MGS V GZ "Cant believe we ever bought that cover story"
oh btw i meant huey was innocent to a point. not COMPLEETLY innocent. i mean he helped build salehenathropus for skull face even if he was help prisoner. so thats why i say what i did.
They actually confirmed it was Jodi Benson voiced Eva this week.
Called it 🙌🏻
Can’t wait for the remake.
It was cool to finally put that mystery to bed!
I’ve been studying metal gear for the last four years and I still didn’t know about a couple of these! Especially Eva’s voice actress that is wild.
Me too. I always assumed it was someone in particular, not just ???
Another cool thing about Snake Vs Monkey is that Ape Escape 3 returned the favor. If you beat AE3 (which I did), you can buy a mini game titled Mesal [sic] Gear Solid, which is a quite fleshed-out homage to Metal Gear, but with everyone including Snake being a Pipo Monkey.
That sounds adorable
Pineapples are grenades. 10/10.
If anyone's wondering what the pun is with "Mesal Gear Solid", in Japanese it's called "Mesaru Gear Solid" and Saru is Japanense for Monkey ^.^
Maybe I should give it another try
Thanks, I appreciate your kind words
@@WesDoesGamesThe crouch walk has been modded into Snake Eater on the PC. It's not perfect, but something interesting.
It also explains why Ishmael has both of his blue eyes and doesn’t use CQC against Quiet while Venom just watches.
I mean that was probably the fake out for mission 0 but we already have the truth mission that clearly explains everything.
@@justaguy1253clearly.
And the fact that when he gives you the handgun and tells you he will shot the guy on the left and you the guy on the right he doesn't even fire his weapon
The fault lies with you Ishmael!
I'm genuinely surprised there were fun little easter eggs and secrets I didn't know about all these years being in the metal gear fandom. What a joy this was to watch and great job!
Glad you enjoyed!
That was very enjoyable. I will definitely watch the retrospectives when you release them.
Awesome, thank you!
You can get Meryl's codec number without looking on the back of the jewelcase. If you select and unselect the disk item you get over and over again the next time you.check your codec numbers Meryls will be there.
Woah, I've never heard that before, I'll have to test that :O
As a kid, I thought this was the only way to get it!
@WesDoesGames it definitely works
Still learning new MGS Eastereggs 25 years later. Mind blowing
Who's that?
@@WesDoesGames The son of a South sea chieftain apparently. The first principal character encountered by the narrator, Ishmael. Only briefly seen in MGSV.
The "message from the parasites" I thought was because its very subtly hinted that Miller is the person who betrayed mother base in ground zeros. When I was first playing the game, I was sure Miller was the traitor and then that message solidified it for me. Huey is a weasel but I don't think he would betray snake
I think there's some intentional ambiguity with both of them. Huey is a weasel, but Miller doth protest too much
While it does make sense, i can hardly believe that Miller was working with Skull Face to tear down his own base.
Only 6 minutes in, and this is by far the most well-edited iceberg video I've ever seen. Props!
Hey, who's the female character on the video's thumbnail?
@@ronaldB2846 Quiet
Thanks for the kind words!
I enjoyed the twist and the connection back to the beginning. A full fox engine remake of Metal Gear with more fleshed out dialogue would be amazing
in the 2015 game awards Mark Hammil says "Metal Gear Solids" because the paper said Metal Gear Solid5 and he thought it was an s at the end
Or hinting at a sequel...! (AlienS, PredatorS, Silent HillS, etc)
😂
Regarding the Meryl codec frequency, I used to rent Metal Gear Solid from Hollywood Video, and the rental boxes they provided for their games had an insert with that game's basic controls and occasionally they would have hints. The hint they included was Meryl's codec frequency.
Awesome video. I really appreciated your slightly more grounded take on the iceberg meme format. Most iceberg videos act as if every goofy topic has to be taken as gospel, and it's refreshing hearing someone be slightly more critical of the fan conspiracy BS icebergs are often rife with.
True, the iceburg people who take everything super seriously annoy me.
Glad to hear it!
@WesDoesGames He revealed that he knew that Paz was Cypher all along at the end of Peace Walker, so nah.
this is literally the best executed iceberg video i’ve ever watched. your asides were entertaining, informative, and often hilarious. your writing is very natural and easy to follow. such polish is hard to find on a niche video about a video game. your voice work is engaging and follows the beats of your script perfectly. your sources are well-integrated. your clip selection and general editing elevates the script perfectly. your audio and sound engineering belies its medium with its quality.
10/10 will watch again while falling asleep
Wow, I'm gonna need to hire you as my hype guy for future videos, lol. Thanks so much for the feedback, that's all really encouraging to hear
Great video. As a die hard Metal Gear fan this was very enjoyable! On a side note, I thought the Venom snake twist at the end of Phantom Pain was mind blowingly good, I'll never forget that moment.
It definitely stuck with me too
I thought the game ended before that mission and stopped playing. A week later I saw an article on it and got found out that way, I still went back to the game anyway to see it. Oh well
The Guy Savage easter egg makes me wonder why guy savage was never an actual video game as it seems like it'd be kinda fun.
One point against Chico being Quiet is that, besides English (which she cant safely speak) Quiet only knows Dine and can communicate w Code Talker. If she were Chico (who is Cuban) she would know Spanish aswell and could talk with Ocelot.
Loved this, thank you so much for putting it together 🖤

This was great! Man, I miss metal gear so bad. I really hope they find someone to make more Metal gear games someday. Hopefully they remake all the games at some point too.
I think how well Snake Eater Delta does will determine that. Hopefully it doesn't become a Phantom Menace 3d situation
Thank you for not fluffing your video by using basic plot points as entries in the first two tiers, and using legitimate Easter eggs that many people aren’t aware of
I don't understand how the MSX tape adds up because that scene takes place 11 years before the first Metal Gear.
There's a subtle time skip in the middle of the scene where Venom is looking in the mirror, indicated by the light color changing. The patch on his uniform also changes I believe

I'll have to listen to that!
Inspecting the MO disc enough times will give you Meryl's codec number as a failsafe for not having the game case
I think that makes a lot of sense
@@WesDoesGames It really does! But from what I remember Kojima just giggled at it and denied it lol
That was the most logical fan theory I have ever seen for an MGS game and still honestly find it annoying that it wasn't the official explanation
I just thought it was a meme and found it funny. I don't think it was ever actually onto anything or meant to be taken seriously. Like Miller being the sunglasses

1:01:05 I never interpreted Huey taking Emma in the pool with him as just Huey not wanting to die alone. I always thought it was obvious Huey was trying to hurt Hal as deep as possible and he knew how close Hal and Emma were.
That's a good reading of the scene, I hadn't thought of that
I think the Miller working for Cypher is the ground zero stuff. His voice being in the interrogation part with paz and chico. Plus the way he inaccurately states the night of meeting paz in ground zeros and how he fell for her student gag. He knew all along that she was with Cypher at the end of pw. What a year to be an MGS fan! And a Peter Griffin fan too apparently

Also on the topic of Portable Ops: that game needs more love. Yes the controls are shitty, yes recruitment is tedious, but otherwise I love the story. I think it needs a remake too, with an expanded story that accommodates the new lore introduced in Peace Walker, 4, and V.

I thought it was referencing him embesling GMP for his fast-food chain.

13:50 I think you underestimate the hardcore gamers that were willing to to...Toggle. Through. EVERY. SINGLE. FREQUENCY...until the truth was found!
25:47 I actually would never had known the series if it wasnt for the 3DS demo, then months later my parents bought me the game
Great video. Metal gear has been my favorite series ever due to its wild story and insane concepts. After all these years we are still trying to decode it all !!! 😂
Couldn't agree more!
Be aware of this fact.
What
Another reason why a lot of fans thought Chico would become Quiet was from one of the tapes you receive in Ground Zeros. It was the recording from the torture session and you heard Paz telling a whimpering Chico to "be quiet."
Lol that's funny but seems like a stretch even for me
No
If you dont shower and quiet is your buddy, she'll take a shower with you instead
it's the second iceberg I've tried to follow in my life and this time I haven't dropped out on like 5th minute, so I guess it's great))
also I've knew most of the facts but it was still an interesting ride, so thanks for the video!^^
I'm glad I kept your attention for not necessarily more but at least five minutes 😊
@@WesDoesGames actually, I've watched your MGS iceberg right till the end so you can be proud of yourself, I guess^^))
Also, I've followed your channel after this one video so it was indeed not so bad, i.e. it was good enough))

Yeah I was always terrified of them catching me. Also, I first read your comment as "The Beatles" and that lead me to some weird thoughts
