    (Corrections listed below)
Hey everyone! Thank you so much for tuning in. This was a huge undertaking, but one that I was happy to do as Metal Gear is a series that is very special to me. I am currently sorting through my backlog of smaller videos now (including a look at Ghost of Tsushima PS5, Aliens Fireteam, etc) but am also in the production phase of another big documentary set to release in October!
If you don't already know what that documentary will be - there's a hint provided in this video in true Metal Gear/Kojima fashion. Enjoy!
    Corrections:
-MGS4 has nearly 10 hours of cutscenes - not 100 hours, must've added an extra 0 in the script and never noticed. Though it certainly feels like 100 hours! :P
-Otacon's father is HUEY Emmerich, not Hal. Misspoke
-Virtuous Mission was 1964, not 1960.

Fun fact: Solid Snake is, quite openly, an homage to Snake Plissken, the protagonist of John Carpenter's Escape From New York. Creator Hideo Kojima has been forthright about the film's influence on his work, and that almost landed him and Konami in court.

Not only that, but the only reason why he didn’t get sued into oblivion is because John Carpenter himself thought it was fine and even went on to praise Kojima for his own creativity.

Snatcher is a mix of Terminator and Blade Runner and there's even a character who looks exactly like Sting does in Blade Runner.

@@uria2001 Most people felt the same way about Raiden, but once you over look that and sink yourself into the story, it's a masterpiece and WAY ahead of its time. It's scary how much was predicted back in 2001 and how it still holds true today. Most people didn't originally like it because the story was too complex and the character switch from Snake to Raiden but opinions changed over the years as people grew more mature and revisited the game and realised how this entry to the franchise was THE defining title that gave MGS it's feel. Whilst I love the first game, MGS2 and MGS3 was the defining style of MGS.

I sat with him and beat the game on extreme in under 3 hours and got every kerotan and unlocked all the camos, EZ gun, Stealth and Infinite facepaint.. He was floored that you could fight The Boss barehanded on extreme and it was easier than with guns.
I also kept arrows in Snake's face after the Fear fight so they were permanently there, and showed him the extra transmitter scene with Eva in the cave.😁

As someone who wasn't able to follow the entirety of the releases and has some understandable gaps in knowledge regarding the Metal Gear lore, your video was a refreshing and reinvigorating jab of information, re-engaging my interest in the game and its elaborate adventure. Metal gear solid, Sons of Liberty, Snake eater, and The Phantom Pain all included hundreds of hours of enjoyment with a story that would build until a crescendo of a tear jerker ending. I adore Metal Gear like I do LOTR. When I want to escape reality into a nostalgic journey for a week every night after work, I watch or play one of them, because they're such deep, vast, detailed, and near perfect fantasy universes to get lost in for different reasons.

It’s Konami’s worthless attempt at a little bit more of a cash grab tailing off MGSV. I often wonder how much more the online experience or additional content may have flourished if the game would have had full post release support for KJP. A reality that will never be unfortunately.

I remember that if you complete all the VR missions in MGS Ghost babel you receive a call revealing that the character used in the VR missions is Jack (Raiden from MGS2). Pretty cool considering that the game was released before MGS2.
Quote: "Your training is complete. Well done. Your combat capability is now undoubtedly beyond that of Solid Snake at the time of Galuade’s fall. Your time is about to come. Get some rest for now....Jack."

One thing I like about Phantom Pain is the amount of effort they have put in the language aspect of the game. Here, Russian soldiers actually speak Russian instead of English with a fake Russian accent. And their Russian is right on the money; done by native speakers. Really adds to the gaming experience.

It's also one of the hints snake isn't who you think he is, in other games Russians would speak in American accents as snake spoke perfect Russian, unless said Russians were actually speaking English, and if so they would speak in a Russian accent. The soldiers in V not speaking English is a hint that this snake doesn't speak Russian

I still believe that MGS3: Snake Eater is Kojima's masterpiece. Yes, MGS1's story and map design are iconic. Yes, MGSV features the best and most innovative gameplay in the series. But MGS3 is it's own beast.
The genius of MGS3 is that despite it being a prequel, Kojima chose to create a story and setting that barely had anything to do with the rest of the series. The story stands on it's own. You can play this game and only this game and understand everything. No outside context is required. It is simply the story of a young and skilled soldier taking on his most difficult mission yet, to kill his mentor, and stop all out nuclear war between the US and Russia. Although there is much more to it than that, Snake Eater also has the simplest story in the series, which I feel is it's greatest strength. You can view this game's story as it's own stand alone Bond-like spy espionage action thriller.

@@Mr_J_n_the_H Yes, brilliant writing. Everytime I do a playthrough of the series, I play in chronological order with mgs3 being first. You can just continue from there and it'll feel natural. The rest of the story builds off of what mgs3 set up.

Arcade machines were hooked on the internet that let you PVP against other people also playing the arcade machine in other parts of Japan, had 3D effect, Voice Com and an aimable gun, may not have been a total metal gear like game but still part of the franchise that I feel could be brought up. I think the arcade game took place around the timeframe of MGS4. I still have my character card! Although useless its still a gem I love.
