Pretty sure it was the same with the assassination of Dallas Tahl in Pandora Tommorow which I first played on Xbox then PS 2, where the Xbox version held no sway but the in the PS2 version if you didn't kill her you got at best 99% depending on how well you finished the mission. Its happened multiple times before when a studio had to play some form of backpedaling when evidence of an actual future game leaked.
I downloaded a mod that makes the firearms all more realistic with one hit kills and a heavier lethality, and omg it breaths so much new life into the game that I got addicted to playing it and actually preferred playing this version of Blacklist so much that I wonder why it wasn't built from the ground up to be this way, I figured they figured it'd be "too easy" but they could easily fix this by making your health system and stealth just as unforgiving, but yeah, using a makarov and taking soldiers down with one or two shots to the chest is so satisfying, and 3 of them oblivious to your presence suddenly being mowed down with you emptying your 8 rounds from your Makarov is so realistic and cinematic feeling, the loud sound design is so much fun, and of course, now going loud and killing a platoon sized group of enemies is much more attractive. I found the default "6 body shots to take one standard guard down" and "Every pistol besides the final upgraded one being nerfed" always forced you to play the game one way and that was the slasher-movie stealth "wait in cover/shadows and melee or gadget takedown the enemies" and using your silencer-only weapons was just a gameplay loop that got boring fast, since the game wasn't Chaos Theory, where it was designed to be played this way but also with incredible mission design and unforgiving consequences to "going loud". Now with this "realistic firearms" mod (I think it's something that like that, if you go to Nexus page on blacklist, it's one of the few mods that exist for the game) it completely breaths new life into the game and make you want to actually go loud, and mixing it up now feels fun and energized, stealth feels less restrictive since your weapons don't need to rely on headshots, although enemy armor and helmets are still effective, you still feel like a badass putting your AK74U on single fire only and mowing down 20 guards who are trying to out flank you. I fucking love this mod and it makes me not even wanna go back to the old way of playing Blacklist. Highly recommend playing it, it's a simple drag and drop into the default folder I believe and works fine with ubisoft connect I believe.
I basically grew up with the series, loved everyone of them, if there wasn’t a change in gameplay I think it would have fallen flat years ago. I’m patiently waiting for another installment, hopefully with Michael Ironside!
well, I mean, it DID fall flat - following the original triliogy, the sales and critical reception have been downhill, if not necessarily in a general sense, then in a "we spent X and only got back Y" sense.
Think you’ll be happy with the news of a remake, although since Michael Ironside didn’t return for the Sam Fisher cameo in siege I doubt he will for the remake.

I can still fondly remember the day I picked up DOOM 3 and Chaos Theory for my Xbox. They were both so mind blowing it was near impossible to play just one of them for an extended period of time. Great times.
@@Progger11 Because outsiders always ruin everything. Better were the days when nerds were made fun of for the things we liked (never thought I would say that, but that represents the times we now live in).
Awesome documentary. All the Splinter Cell Games are now backwards compatible with Xbox One. Chaos Theory looks amazing on the Xbox One it's one the finest wines in gaming
Double Agent V2 was my first introduction to the series and has a place in my heart, but after playing them all, I did enjoy Chaos Theory a lot and Blacklist is a guilty pleasure of mine, specially the cutscenes and villain
100% agree with this, specially now that MGS is done and Dishonored is on (I hope) a temporary hiatus, only Hitman and Deus Ex (although not so well as of late) are left to carry the torch for triple A stealth driven experiences. Sure there are great stealth hybrids, like Ghost Recon Wildlands that merge stealth and action gameplay well enough that it creates an interesting dynamic between the two. There just aren't enough fully stealth driven games anymore, and this trend could potentially mean now would be the perfect timing to reboot the franchise. I wish Ubisoft could pull a reboot as great as the one Santa Monica did with God of War, a boy can dream... BOY! Chaos Theory was my first stealth game back in the PS2 era, so I was spoiled with one of the greatest games of the genre and I was none the wiser hahaha :D
@@SimpleArt93 I want a new Deus Ex badly, shame they put the series on ice after meddling with Mankind Divided. Still, with all its problems, it still puts most AAA games to shame.
@@joshuak5798 Yeah that's the thing, Mankind Divided is just like Wildlands, they have their quirks, but overall they provide pretty unique experiences for those willing to look past the reviews and minor criticism. That's for sure, I just replayed Chaos Theory (which actually is the only one Splinter Cell I really played), and daaamn I enjoyed it. For a 2005 game it's still amazing compared to recent games in all aspects : graphics, AI, gameplay, ambience and scenario... this game is pure gold :D
I watched both; can confirm they're both breathtaking 😍👌 Thank you so much for making them, I'm actually playing Double Agent V2 for the first time because of you two! 👏 Fantastic so far!
I can't imagine how much work went into this. Thank you for a great Splinter Cell retrospective! I got the feels seeing the early games again. I played the original after playing the demo on a CD ROM disc included in PC Gamer magazine. That's a long time ago. Great gaming memories from a great title. I hope Michael Ironside appreciates how many fans loved his voice acting fleshing out one of the greatest American action characters. Bravo!
Critical Nobody's video got me into this series and made me play through the entire series. Nick930's video made me want to play through the series again. Damn both videos are incredibly well done!
god damn if this is not the best way to spend my night, with some snacks and a good cold beer, you my man... you're just making it perfect, also, how can you not see what a true fan of Splinter Cell you really are. I'm glad I've found your video.
I first watched the history of 007, that video I believe was over an hour, now this one I watched start to finish, anybody who can gain the attention of RUclips viewers for more than 10 minutes is doing a great job.
I love them all, I still revisit them often. Chaos Theory was the best, but I liked the multiplayer from PT the absolute best. Double Agent was fun, but was probably my least favorite of the series. I played SC 1 through dozens and dozens of times, and I am one of those people that achieved the 100% marks in every gameplay style, and mission. Splinter Cell has been my all time favorite franchise, and I hope they make another. Conviction is still probably my go to for just logging in and filling my SC fix. Deniable Ops is still fun. Blacklist sucked me in for hours, and made me not quit until I unlocked, and mastered EVERYTHING. Im going to go play some more SC now.
I love all your videos, but this one is really close to my heart! Splinter Cell is probably my favorite game series of all time and I think you have made a great dedication to the series right here. I really hope we see another entry for this epic franchise soon. However I can see how developers might be frightened. There hasn't been a real failure in the main games and that is really difficult to live up to. Nonetheless I really hope we get another one.
This is one of the most impressive videos I’ve watched based around a games entire franchise. Your hard work and passion shines bright. You’ve gained a sub from me. Great work!
Watched the whole thing. I loved them all but Chaos Theory gave me goosebumps of nostalgia. Conviction was a favorite too, I felt the anger that Fisher had with going after his daughter. Gave you that "Let's go take them down" type of attitude. Thanks for the good trip down memory lane!
All the Splinter Cell games have been good. It's been a high standard. I even really liked Double Agent. The scrapes he kept getting out of were thrilling. Remember JBA 2? Where you sneak into Emil's office, only for Emil to walk in on you? So quickly dart under the table and empty his safe whilst his back is turned. Then Fisher sneaks into Erica's quarters just as she walks in. I remember it fondly. Stealth done right.
You managed to keep an exiting documentary about a stealth game for more than an hour. Awesome work, really enjoyed it. I am Downloading black list to play it again after 5 years. It is crazy how we hadn’t heard anything about a sequel for so long.

This was a really well conceived deep dive into the franchise. The editing matching the narration must have taken ages, great job, you can be very proud of this.
well put together video! Splinter Cell is a classic game. When I had the bonus mission on Ghost Recon Wildlands, I kinda freaked out with excitement. Brings back my childhood with these games. Awesome!
This is like a documentary that shoulda been on G4TV or something.... amazing work man, Splinter cell holds a special place in my heart, Thank you for your hard work 👍👍👍
My favourites were the very first Splinter Cell game and Conviction. I feel like I'm the only person who actually really liked the monochrome effect to show when you were in the shadows in Conviction. Although I loved the original night vision goggles too, once I had played Conviction I actually found it hard to readjust to the green and fuzzy vision in the first game. Great video for a great franchise!
This was an extremely ambitious and well realized video. From the second this popped up in my feed I knew I needed to put aside an hour and 16 minutes in my day. Congrats on this! Definitely made me want to go back and play some old school spy vs. mercs.
You have a perfect voice for this type of review, I could listen to you review the splinter cell serious for hours and hours haha! Awesome review man!!
Thanks for this awesome video, it brought me right back to all my experiences of this awesome series. I really hope that there will be a new Splinter Cell some day.
3 best stealth games IMO, Metal Gear Solid 3, Hitman: The World of Assassination Trilogy, Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory. Would love to try the classic Thief games sometime but I don't have a PC at the moment.
What a great video! I am a fellow Splinter Cell fan, and my favourite is actually Conviction(dont be angry plz) I am also thinking of making a video, regarding the Soundtrack of the Splinter Cell franchise. Long Live Splinter Cell, lets hope the Best for the new one!
This is a really well conceived and constructed essay. Nice editing too on the narration and game-play of the various installments of the SC series. Huge amount of work went into this, so thank you very much for your efforts, I really enjoyed it.
I absolutely loved playing blacklist. It truly felt like a modern interpretation of Chaos Theory. If it had Ironsides, it would have been damn-near perfect.
Fantastic doc, Nick, huge congrats. Really well-integrated commentary and visuals, not as easy as it looks and the quality of the writing is high. I've played through all the PC iterations except Double Agent and loved them all, wasting many hours in map recon to compete effectively in Chaos Theory's Spy vs Merc mode. I am even considering re-installing Blacklist, which I enjoyed but found that the scripted missions, such as the final face-off with the villain were over-linear, tedious and unavoidable. Thanks again for the excellent work.
Oh sh!t i got a heart from Nick, my girlfriend will definitely f*ck me tonight cause... Ya know... Nothing is more attractive than a man got hearted by Nick
I swear if Ubisoft makes another Splinter Cell with an online requirement, an EPIC STORE EXCLUSIVE and remove the basic roots of the series.......... But seriously, great video as always Nick.
Chaos Theory is my favorite game I ever played. I spent the whole day shoveling driveways in a snowstorm to buy it. We need a complete stealth focused remake to honor how great it really was.
Chaos Theory is my favorite Splinter Cell title, for the Campaign, Coop, definitely the Multiplayer. But I enjoyed Conviction, and I loved Blacklist as well. I think Blacklist did a decent job kind of fusing the two styles of old and new. Splinter Cell is easily my favorite Tom Clancy game and I've been patiently waiting for a new one for far to long.
I didn't expect to watch the entire video... But I did! Great Jon. I hope the remake can capture the greatness of the first Splinter Cell while keeping in mind that people's gameplay style has evolved over the years.
I kind of wish they went with the Rouge Sam on the run in Washington D.C version of Splinter Cell: Conviction. I like how they tried to turn him into a highly trained version of Richard Kimbell from The Fugitive flipping tables and being improvisational. I like how they stripped him of his gun, suit and gear. While I don't hate the version we got, I think this version that they dropped could have had real potential to revolutionize not only Splinter Cell but 3rd person action games at the time. This was the Gears of War era. Every game had to be super bombastic so to have a game where you'd be expected to be smart and only fight when your back was against a wall would have been a breath of fresh air. Also who doesn't like bearded Sam doing sick body slams in a cafe? *I still want it!*
Though that 1 area looks cool, I think that the mechanic would have been hard to implement for multiple levels without getting stale. Would every area be a big "bubble" with a crowd? I mean, you'd need it to be like that for the huge importance placed on NPCs. Idk. Maybe if they made a single "city", gta style, and had the character need to wait for events, time of day, influence events through his actions with multiple storylines, etc., which now that I think of it sounds cool, but would not be at all a Splinter Cell game. It would be more like some kind of mafia, or, poltical influencer, hacker game (maybe like a Mr. Robot (tv show from amazon)), but not a rogue spy game. Idk.
There hasn't been a new Splinter Cell game since Blacklist, but the series continued on by two novels: "Blacklist: Aftermath" written by Peter Telep, and "Firewall" written by James Swallow.
I love the objective review you have Conviction specifically. Personally not my fave for reasons you explained, I’ve always forgotten how general fans may have seen the game. (Ironically, I’ve played Conviction more than Double Agent and the first combined).
I grew up watching my dad play Splinter Cell when I was younger and he doesn't really play video games. Splinter Cell means a lot to me as I have so many memories of watching him play and figuring out levels together when it was WAY past my bedtime 😂. I recently went to play the first one and it's still really fun, I hope they make a new one for UE5, the lighting, graphics, ai, etc. would be crazy
My favorite game, been waiting for this since it was announced, great work and way to get me itching for a new splinter cell, after playing through the old ones.
And now, Siege has Sam Fisher, or "Zero". Being recruited for Team Rainbow and the first operative of the "Rainbow Operation Staff". Speculation is Sam is trying to get away from something or hide something. He seems ruthless and unforgiving, the most iconic thing from him in Siege for me is his reveal lines. "You should know better than to write me off." "Consider this a teaching moment." It's so cool to have such an icon in a game I've loved for years. Your video makes me wanna play some of those games along with the cool sounding mechanics, Siege just can't have balanced stealth without it not feeling like stealth.
i wish i could go back to the days when hitman 2, splinter cell 1 and vice city was out. these 3 games brings back memories. i remember i used to turn the lights off when i used to play splinter cell

@@markleonard. but he did come back during both Ghost Recon games Wildlands & Breakpoint…there’s hope haha
No, the gameplay changes are largely what caused the fall. The series probably would've done better if it stayed mostly similar.

By the way, do you know the song in the intro? It is a banger.
I can still fondly remember the day I picked up DOOM 3 and Chaos Theory for my Xbox. They were both so mind blowing it was near impossible to play just one of them for an extended period of time. Great times.
Ah, yes, the good old days when games were made for video game fans.
I miss the days when games where made for the gamers, and they listened to feed back. Unlike now where they only listen to RUclipsrs, and streamers.
@@tjjordan4207 Why the gatekeeping?
Blacklist is a nice mix of new and old gameplay elements. They found a nice middle ground then never made another game which is the way it goes.
God damn, this is the perfect upload. If there's one thing i want it's a new Splinter Cell in the vein of Chaos Theory. C'mon Ubisoft.
Here's hoping this E3 gives us not one but two or three returns to the stealth genre from any franchise, I'll take anything at this point hahaha
@@SimpleArt93 honestly same mate - just no more of this multiplayer stuff, give me something solid with good direction. God imagine mercs v spies now.
Conviction and Blacklist are the best Mission Impossible games I've ever played.
I enjoyed playing both those games especially conviction
I think it's safe to say my video on the subject comes across as grade school CliffsNotes in comparison to this
I have deep respect for your own project and the care and effort you put into it. Glad you enjoyed my own version :)
I watched both; can confirm they're both breathtaking 😍👌 Thank you so much for making them, I'm actually playing Double Agent V2 for the first time because of you two! 👏 Fantastic so far!
I have watched both. Both quality
No way. Both of your videos rock.
Both. Both is good.
Bravo!
Aww man, I just finished watching CriticalNobody's video!
...welp, here goes another hour.
Same here
Critical Nobody's video got me into this series and made me play through the entire series. Nick930's video made me want to play through the series again. Damn both videos are incredibly well done!
@@thegamingpesant2880 i watched so many history of splinter cell videos that i decided to try it myself and i can say i do not regret it
god damn if this is not the best way to spend my night, with some snacks and a good cold beer, you my man... you're just making it perfect, also, how can you not see what a true fan of Splinter Cell you really are.
I'm glad I've found your video.
This is going straight into Ubisoft's vault. They should felicitate you for this. Great video and I being a Splinter cell fan, loved it.
Can feel the splinter cell love in your words. Really hope there is a new one someday
Loved this documentary. Thank you for your quality work!
You managed to keep an exiting documentary about a stealth game for more than an hour. Awesome work, really enjoyed it. I am Downloading black list to play it again after 5 years. It is crazy how we hadn’t heard anything about a sequel for so long.
Was waiting for a history of Splinter Cell since I've seen history of Tomb Raider. Great video.
To this day, I still have the urge to replay Blacklist.

Trash why play blacklist when you can play chaos theory
@@SolorioV1Because blacklist is a good game and not everyone has an opinion like yours
@@Batonaz No dummy, not everyone had the privilege to play Peak Splinter Cell like me 😎👌. Everyone will agree atleast the majority that Chaos Theory was Peak Sam Fisher with ACTUAL STEALTH.

Suddenly feeling the urge to play splinter cell. Thanks for all your hard work man. Some of my favorite multiplayer memories was spy vs mercs

easily my favorite series on the channel, always appreciate the time and effort you put in for these thanks for posting
mate what a thorough and comprehensive video on an awesome series! really well done my dude you have got yourself a new sub :)
Just a min late and already few comments are there
Your channel is growing fast. Good work man
This was a really well conceived deep dive into the franchise.
The editing matching the narration must have taken ages, great job, you can be very proud of this.
Loving the 60fps footage, makes the old games look like new
They still look and play great! (Except pandora multi... thats rough)
@@Nick930 Yeah, I noticed the choppiness of that mode. I've also heard that widescreen support doesn't work with multiplayer so it stretches.
well put together video! Splinter Cell is a classic game. When I had the bonus mission on Ghost Recon Wildlands, I kinda freaked out with excitement. Brings back my childhood with these games. Awesome!
This is like a documentary that shoulda been on G4TV or something.... amazing work man, Splinter cell holds a special place in my heart, Thank you for your hard work 👍👍👍
Looks like Sam is finally getting that gadget launcher in Siege
Great friggin upload! Thanks for the hard work you put into this
My favourites were the very first Splinter Cell game and Conviction. I feel like I'm the only person who actually really liked the monochrome effect to show when you were in the shadows in Conviction. Although I loved the original night vision goggles too, once I had played Conviction I actually found it hard to readjust to the green and fuzzy vision in the first game. Great video for a great franchise!
I’m getting Critical nobody flashbacks!!!
Seriously though, great video!
Lmao I having that too. his video was awesome just like this
This was an extremely ambitious and well realized video. From the second this popped up in my feed I knew I needed to put aside an hour and 16 minutes in my day. Congrats on this! Definitely made me want to go back and play some old school spy vs. mercs.
Really appreciating your effort you put into this video. Great work and foremost besides being full of interesting information, fun to watch.
You have a perfect voice for this type of review, I could listen to you review the splinter cell serious for hours and hours haha! Awesome review man!!
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it!
Fantastic analysis Nick, top notch as per the yoush. You've done a service to my favorite franchise mate, great strolling down memory lane... 🤩🤩🤩
Thanks for this awesome video, it brought me right back to all my experiences of this awesome series.
I really hope that there will be a new Splinter Cell some day.
What a fantastic presentation. Great work mate!
I honestly can't believe how Chaos Theory still looks in 2019. I still remember when it came out being stunned by the graphics.
Jose A. Ramirez Moya it was and is pretty amazing. I remember playing it back in high school haha
YES!!! After you ended your 100 games stream with CT I was begging for this video!!!
3 best stealth games IMO, Metal Gear Solid 3, Hitman: The World of Assassination Trilogy, Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory. Would love to try the classic Thief games sometime but I don't have a PC at the moment.
What a great video!
I am a fellow Splinter Cell fan, and my favourite is actually Conviction(dont be angry plz)
I am also thinking of making a video, regarding the Soundtrack of the Splinter Cell franchise.
Long Live Splinter Cell, lets hope the Best for the new one!
One of my favorite RUclips videos ever. Great job. Damn I miss Splinter Cell!
Great job man🙌 that bring back memories 👍🏻
Thanks again for the excellent work.
still my all time favourite stealth series, loved the first 3 splinter cell, even double agent on PS2, not the xbox 360 and ps3 version
These history videos are so informative, indepth, and well produced! Keep up the great work!
I was going to have dinner with my girlfriend but Nick uploaded a video so...ya know 😁
Oh sh!t i got a heart from Nick, my girlfriend will definitely f*ck me tonight cause... Ya know... Nothing is more attractive than a man got hearted by Nick
Ah good ol' Nick930. Pissing off girlfriends since 2007 😂😂😂

One of the best protagonists in video games... the series definitely needs a return
I would kill for a chaos theory remaster
I would kill for a whole series remaster
@@christianrashotte1605 Oh yeah so would I!
It would be cool if Ubisoft made another and had a cameo of nomad or a ghost

Wait! An Splinter cell video with all the games on it? Subcribed!
Watched it till the end. Keep up the great work man!
I swear if Ubisoft makes another Splinter Cell with an online requirement, an EPIC STORE EXCLUSIVE and remove the basic roots of the series..........
But seriously, great video as always Nick.
Have Ubi put anything on the Epic store? I figured they'd stay far away from it given the fact that they have their own launcher/storefront.

Chaos Theory is my favorite Splinter Cell title, for the Campaign, Coop, definitely the Multiplayer. But I enjoyed Conviction, and I loved Blacklist as well. Holy shit that first game had amazing lighting
Thank you for recognizing the achievement that was the Amon Tobin Chaos Theory Soundtrack. That's an underrated gem right there.
I actually really loved Double Agent. I always like the idea of putting a beloved protagonist in that "nothing left to lose" mindset
Here in 2024 still waiting for a new Splinter Cell..
By modern Ubisoft? Good Lord PLEASE NO.
Idk.
@@lelsewherelelsewhere9435 yeah it would just be assassins creed at that point. wouldn't be splinter cell.
"You should know better than to write me off."
"Consider this a teaching moment."
It's so cool to have such an icon in a game I've loved for years. Your video makes me wanna play some of those games along with the cool sounding mechanics, Siege just can't have balanced stealth without it not feeling like stealth.
Amazing work. Loved watching this.
i wish i could go back to the days when hitman 2, splinter cell 1 and vice city was out. these 3 games brings back memories. i remember i used to turn the lights off when i used to play splinter cell
