you know you could play the pc multiplayer of PT, CT and DA. in fact my friends on discord could give you the multiplayer files if you dont have the pc version. if you do, ask them how to connect with other players by getting an evolve account (not the evolve game, the evolve lan connection thing lol)
Critical Nobody hey bud, I saw this vid in my recommendations, clicked on it and enjoyed it, do you know if the original splinter cell on ps3 HdD version has those xbox exclusive missions.
if u are getting the game STAY ABSOLUTELY AWAY from ps3 version like the plague its got less frames than a slideshow and lots of things like the jba rooftop are completely removed.
So I have just found this channel through my recommended and I will say you saved me from purchasing the god awful Pandora tomorrow ps3 port. I thank you and I also want to say you deserve many more subs and have subscribed to enjoy more of your content.
My personal favorite line from Sam is from Chaos Theory. There's an objective to bomb a crashed American jet but there's an optional objective to drag the unconscious pilots to safety before you do so. However, time is of the essence so Lambert urges you to blow it without dragging the pilots and if you start carrying them anyway, Lambert starts rushing you. If you ignore him and grab the second pilot, Lambert tells him "You don't exist, Fisher. You can't get a medal for this." And Fisher simply responds with "Medals won't help me sleep at night."
It's funny. A few years ago, Ubisoft montreal made a contest to win a drone. The question was what would you do with a drone? something original. I said that i would use it to spy on them and finally get some answer about a new splinter cell (After blacklist) and i won. your comment reminded me of that. scontent.fyhu2-1.fna.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/10513352_838884289477847_2561893134530223758_n.jpg?_nc_cat=105&_nc_oc=AQkmrZY052UM_nOS4KTTAPBgu8uXlPILk6T4QKGPDDEYGvQCBh9VLaSDyXETWUteQm8&_nc_ht=scontent.fyhu2-1.fna&oh=f4206cdc114cdde19ff7c610cc8f4b9e&oe=5DB6A6D1
I've always been hesitant to make a video on the Splinter Cell series, mainly because I didn't grow up with it. Now, it's because there's already an excellent video on it. This was expertly paced and presented with enough detail to satisfy without ever dragging; the humor's subtle but effective and served as a nice breather for a video that's nearly an hour. That G4 rant had me in stitches. Phenomenal work, hope to see more work in the future.
Fisher: "Don't tell me...three alarms and the mission is over?" Lambert: "Of course not. This is no video game, Fisher." Best dialog ever, brings back some nostalgia :D
Funny. I remember hearing a line where lambert says: you don’t exist Fisher, you won’t get a medal for that Fisher: a medal won’t help me sleep at night. I think it happens when you save the second pilot in chaos theory. My memory is kinda janky tbh
I really hope the remake has the predator type thermal vision instead of the bright pink radar that blacklist used. Always hurt my eyes. Much preferred the early games blue screen with thermal vision.
Sam - "Lambert, now that I am holding 50 million bucks, I think it's time to talk about that raise again" Lambert - "Hmm, 25 cents per hour and not a penny more." Sam - "Deal."
My favorite line is when you're in the submarine and overhear a conversation. I don't remember anything from it other than it ended with one of the guard saying "sweet dreams" in a weird and funny way.
Michael Ironside is Sam Fischer. Such a perfect voice for the character we grew up with. Sam's funny sarcasm and one liner made the series even better, just like Garrett in Thief
I wish developers would bring that back instead of making every line of dialogue grimdark edgy or Wheaton esque quippy. The funny thing is that I know real spec ops people who told me they'd joke around all the time
something like that today would be seen as revolutionary and oh so edgy in todays gaming world, sadly more and more companies/developers are taking the easy money paved with peoples micro transaction money to even think about doing something as interesting as that for a game today
@@lucaszambrano8453 Yup. That's the beauty of 'Murica for you. The amount they make from micro transactions is unbelievable compared to just sale of games/dlcs. Won't be going away anytime soon (probably ever) sadly :(
@@brandonducks I totally disagree. the version of PS2 seems to me far superior to that of xbox (ignoring the graphics that was not such a great leap) and from the first level if I remember correctly, we could see the villain of the game while in xbox it seemed to be something totally alien to the rest of the game In addition many great things like the introduction of the trust system was omitted by a more permissive one (I miss the guy who hated Washington but was a protected witness and if you killed him or not affected the trust of both organizations). All this without mentioning the lack of the sound meter making the stealth less tactical in my experience. For me, without a doubt, the worst part was that each faction had its own level of confidence in xbox while in ps2 the trust meter is shared and if you gain confidence in one you lose confidence in the other. Sorry if i write someting wrong. Still learing English. Eddited:when i said Xbox version i'm talking about 360.
It's actually kinda cool how there's no definitive version of Double Agent. We don't normally get such significant differences between versions anymore.
Good one. No offense but they should have stuck to classic Splinter Cell theme rather than a 3rd person shooter theme in Conviction. That's where they messed up Big Time.
@@kenneth_blah_blah_blah9228 Conviction wasn’t a horrible game but omitting stealth really was a poor idea. Stealth is a key part to Splinter Cell’s identity.
@@ElTigre12024 it did have stealth. Just not navy seals behind enemy lines kind of stealth. More like misdirection than stealth I guess, but it was important to trick enemies into thinking you're somewhere you're not. I like it as a different kind of stealth. Action stealth LOL
Just in case anyone didn't know... *All mainline console Splinter Cell games featured in this video are now backwards compatible on Xbox One.* I shit you not. If you got original Xbox, 360 discs or downloads you can play the following: Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow Chaos Theory Double Agent V2 Double Agent V1 Conviction Blacklist All are X Enhanced as well. The first four games originally released on Original Xbox can be downloaded for $15 and Double Agent V1 through Blacklist go for $20 I think. Just thought I'd let people know who want to get on this series.
I have the original games/disc for the real xbox (one). Love all the check points. Need them to replay again to Perfection. Well the best I can do anyway.
I can not begin to describe how disappointed I am by the lack of a Splinter Cell announcement at E3 2018. The whole reason I made this video was because of how excited I was about a new entry...Maybe next year I guess
AMAZING video ... cheered me up immensely after todays disappointment. ... My gut feeling is SC WILL return, there is no way they would bring Ironside back JUST for that brief DLC cameo ... and in a recent interview he gave about Ghost Recon I got the vibe he was doing much more as Sam in the future. Very possible they only recently started working on the game ... I'll come back here one year from now and hopefully we can celebrate then!
I know how you feel. I was hoping for a new game in the franchise too. And this is coming from someone who became a fan of the franchise only last year!
Chaos Theory left such an impression on me, the music was incredible, Amon Tobin's incredible soundtrack design brought something to that game a long with the refined stealth system and story that just made for such a memorable experience. Game is always gonna be in my heart and I am not ashamed to admit I get nostalgic as hell every time I think back on it or hear El Cargo on Toonami commercials lol
might be the best game score ever made, this imo literally reinvented "spy music" for movies and games, moving it away from James Bond adjacent stylings and into it's current state
A complex game considering the time of release, just like MGS3. I played this game on the PS2, had a good experience, but not something extraordinary. I still think Pandora is the best Splinter Cell, I don't get it the chaos theory love, lol Maybe if I played on a powerful PC at the time, the experience would be better. But honestly, I played CT recently and the gameplay is there, identical to the PS2 version, only the visuals are better. And in 2017, the chaos theory visuals means nothing, let's be honest lol the gameplay remains cool tho, too slow and robotic sometimes, but cool.
Me and my buddy 100% stealthed every co-op mission to perfection in Chaos Theory and it took us hours to master the patterns and strategies, It was the best summer ever.
I cant play stealth games with friends any more it just seems no one can do it anymore because i was live streaming metal gear phantom pain in the middle of the base and my friend was watching hes probably only like 12 or 13 and hes like i probably couldnt handle a stealth game since its so tince and thats when i realized omg its been so long since this modern generation had a stealth game kids legit cant handle it, i play alot of stealth games and crack under pressure when in a shoot out but this gen cracks under pressure from stealth its almost like its switched!
I never understood this, I always found killing to be more fun in these games. I know that sounds kinda psychopath-y, but I think you know what I mean lol. The knife kills and hiding the bodies just made the game more fun imo. I still took all those secret routes, and did 100% stealth in terms of no alarms, but it was so fun taking out targets in Chaos Theory.
My proudest gaming achievement was a 100% ghost run of Chaos Theory. Not only did I not kill anyone. I didn't even interact with people at all. Apart from that single guy on top of the lighthouse, and the guy on the boat, but those were unavoidable. No windows/doors/light/etc broken, no tarps cut, no spy gadgets left behind, no shots fired (no bullet holes or cases), etc, etc. It was literally as close to a truly perfect ghost run as possible. I went in, left zero evidence that I was there, and left. And yes...the bath house still haunts my dreams, especially that room with the night vision soldiers.
I'd love to see Sam as a new Lambert, giving orders and guiding the player, still with his sarcastic and excellent performance by Ironside. Maybe he could get back in action for the final mission
Chaos Theory is truly a masterpiece. One thing that was also great about Chaos Theory was the soundtrack. Amon Tobin made some brilliant music for this game and there is also a remixed version of the soundtrack that somehow sounds even MORE amazing
Absolutely. I was massively into Tobin before CT came out and I'd made a playlist of his 'sneaky' songs to listen to when I played Pandora Tomorrow. It's like Ubisoft read my mind.
It's my favorite OST of all time! It actually inspired me to learn how to make electronic music, which I did for about a decade after hearing it. And Tobin is still my favorite musician of all time.
Being 12 and loving Splinter Cell, I learned to walk as quietly as possible. I still catch myself walking on the balls of my feet 20 years later. Fucking wild man. Not gonna lie though, I would still love to buy some night vision goggles.
Taking away the HUD makes sense in certain situation, but not in other. It made sense for Sam to not have a HUD in the JBA or jail segments, but when he's fully equipped, he should have both sound and light meters.
I hate HUD. but I can understand that in a game like this, some people would definitely want more than just their actual instincts. It should be an option that can be turned on and off in every game for instance, Uncharted 4 did it perfectly
all other mission in double agent(version1) is in daylight so no need of hud but in the other double agent there are more night mission in version 1 had only 1 night mission with Sam fully equipped
JohnHunt The storyline in PS2 version was still make sense. Enrica put Sam's sanity back after he lost (presume)his daughter but Third Echelon took Enrica out before she could escape with Sam.
Same for conviction. I almost cried when I had to shoot my buddy that I had randomly met online and with whom we played 6 hours non stop to complete the campaign 😢
Chaos Theory was something that changed my life forever. I have fully completed it about 15 times (I wish it was an overstatement) and loved every bit of it... except that mission in Japan where there is a steam room and a bomb and some guys with IR goggles chasing you. After playing the game I truly believed I was a spy and would sneak out of my house to go out in the dark lurking around the nearby area to eavesdrop on neighbors walking their dogs. I also went to look at a nearby military base with one of my BB guns for a recon. So much nostalgia. This game is basically the essence of my childhood...
Beating Chaos Theory 15 times isn't so bad compared to me beating Ratchet and Clank 2 about 50 times. Wish I was kidding, but that game was my drug as a kid
I really like your video but dude you forgot to mention the soundtrack in Chaos Theory made by Amon Tobin. A masterpiece of a game soundtrack. It really added a lot to the game.
Couldn't agree more. You have to acknowledge someone with Tobin's musical imagination, it truly is a gift. How does he come up with these scores, I have no idea. But he's a genius.
+Lionel Hutz Along with a few other tracks, like the one from the end of the airfield mission and the combat music from the Iraq mission right after that.
I got the soundtrack to the game when i brought the game on disc way back when lol and I still have it. All you need to hear is "El Cargo" to know Chaos Theory is the best game in the series
Chaos Theory's soundtrack is simply one of the best ever made. Amon Tobin's eerie, break-beat laden aggressive tracks fit the action well, and the stealth loops felt perfectly like spy material. I was even inspired to make a drum & bass track out of Theme From Battery, one of my favorites. Cheers! soundcloud.com/outrospectre/the-third-echelon
"Friends don't let friends buy bad games." I 100% agree. I recently stopped one if my friends from buying the Gollum game. He's a big LOTR fan and waited ages for the game but I stopped him bc he was going to spend his own money on it
Oh no… I watched Charlie (moistcritikal) play some of gollum and it looked so bad and not even like oh that’s pretty bad but still fun, it was just BAD.
Splinter Cell: Conviction is exactly like Hitman Absolution. I LOVE them but they do not feel like they belong in their respective franchises and are the black sheep of their series.
@@TG-ge1oh Conviction came first, in 2010. Absolution was released in 2012. Both of them were my forays into those respective franchises. I was very late to the party!
It’s not perfect and is pretty unforgiving. But once you get used to it, it’s actually pretty good at times. And I personally prefer the voice acting for Lambert in this one.
That was the first one i got too. I think I was 11 maybe. It’s Teen rating helped me parents get it. As a kid I only ever could get to the 3rd level. I replayed it again 5 or 6 years ago and was unable to pass the train mission. It’s a tough game
Always been a fan of these games (along with MGS), that offer something other than violence as a solution. The other thing worth mentioning is the soundtrack from Chaos Theory: a truly great soundtrack - and it has gone on to be used in other TV shows and adverts.
Man, I've never seen a better review of a video game - specially Splinter Cell. Says a lot about you being a real fan of the series. I didn't even realize I was watching an hour-long video. You definitely earned a sub!
@@theresarayner5726 Check out the Hitman series, and Metal Gear Solid, as well as the Assassin's Creed series which has a lot of stealth gameplay as well.
@Josh Glover I've played one assassins creed game and four hitman games, I see hitman and assassins creed more as a hide in plain sight type of stealth but they're both still good games, but thanks for suggesting them though and I'll be sure to check out metal gear solid
@Theresa Rayner Definitely check out Thief: The Dark Project, Thief 2: The Metal Age and even Thief 3: Deadly Shadows. The grandfather of the stealth genre and still incredible games today.
When I entered this video, I had Conviction as my favorite, but now I see that Chaos Theory it's far superior as a stealth game. But I still love Conviction, since it's the closest thing we ever got to a John Wick game, even though I understand that Conviction is not what people expect from a Splinter Cell game
I love Chaos Theory, easily my most favorite of the series. But I’ll be honest, Conviction is my second favorite, I really enjoyed the heck out of it. (Ubi Shanghai’s Pandora Tomorrow and Double Agent didn’t hit it for me really)
If you wanna real John Wick game check the first Watch_Dogs and Payday 2 with mods (it's the closest to John Wick simulator you will ever get, espesially with some skill builds and weapon mods + there is a link somewhere for a free pencil melee - enjoy).
Yeah, I think it peaked with chaos theory but I have a soft spot for conviction due to the personal nature of the story for sam. And having him move fast and light and do the panther style gameplay made sense with the narrative. I just wish it had returned to form after that.
I’ve come back to this video Atleast 9 times, along with the hitman video. Both are my absolute guilty pleasures when I wanna watch the games I mainly played in my childhood. Always great stuff man.
Splinter Cell Chaos Theory is not just a stealth game, it is THE stealth game. Reply to F4CU R3TR0: That would be fantastic, I want that, but will probably will never get. As of now, splinter cell is in a pit of despair, I know Sam Fisher is in R6 but that does not add to his character ark so that doesn’t count. If Ubisoft would stop focusing of stupid ass packs and season passes and actually focus on what makes a game fun and replayable, we could get that.
@@MrR3TR0 I'd rather see new games. Call it Splinter Cell Origins and have it take place between Splinter Cell and Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow. Give it a really good plot and make it play like Splinter Cell Blacklist (without Mark & Execute) and have non linear levels like Splinter Cell Chaos Theory.
Game Shock well, how about this: Half of the plot is between the first game and Pandora Tomorrow, with the old team and the old controls. The other half is in the present, with the blacklist team and controls
@@MrR3TR0 I'd rather have a prequel game set between Splinter Cell and Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow and another game set a year after Splinter Cell Blacklist.
Useless fact of the day - "Axe" body spray is called "Lynx" in England. The copy rights of the product name "Axe" is already owned by another company in England so a different name had to be used in that country.
victortheripper In the original release, AXE had a lot of presence in the game. Billboards and such. Same with a mobile phone carrier that I think no longer exists. Their logo was something like a weird 4-pointed orange blob with a dot/head. AXE even had a neon sign perched a rooftop that you ziplined from to reach an adjacent building. Edit: It was Cingular.
same lol. I remember seeing nokia and a surge vending machine in the first game, i think in the remastered version they changed it to a coke machine because surge was no longer a company later on.
What they should've done with the series, as Ironsides is getting older and can't do mocap or whatever, is to make Sam the new Lambert and have him mentor and command a new, younger splinter cell. Like they did with Dieter in Rainbow 6.
Saw the community post, I wanted to say this video was really well done and I enjoy coming back to rewatch it! Also, I'd like to see your opinion on the cut splinter cell levels that were found and playable like Severonickel and the XBOX version of Nuclear Power Plant that are both playable on XEMU, which is an emulator for the original xbox. (Although, the emulation isn't very accurate) Turns out that there was supposed to be much more story to NPP from cut levels like Severonickel (Shortened to Kola Cell), Mining Town (Not found yet), and Shipyard (Shortened to the Vselka DLC missions) than when you initially covered it in your PS2 versions review which is why the story didn't make sense initially when doing the extraction.
I just hope splinter cell returns to its stealth based gameplay of chaos theory. I don't like that it makes combat so easy now because it used to be that 'you can do combat but it's not worth the loads of trouble'
Highest difficulty and without marked executes = HELLA FUN. Conviction was absolute great if you didnt play with markers. The Level design was on of the bests if not the best. Blacklist was very fun aswell but not the same as the ones before imo. I still enjoyed every SC and id play them again any time
Same here man, I miss the way splintercell was.... the real splintercell before conviction, which conviction was a good game just not splintercell. I have my own video that I put together think you just might enjoy. See if we agree? ruclips.net/video/cxwmUqP8nwc/видео.html
I think blacklist did a great job giving the player the option for both. Of course, you could armor up, play on normal or lower and go guns blazing, but on realistic and perfectionist, its either insanely difficult or straight up the wrong option. I think the "modern" approach blacklist took can be improved on, for sure, but i think that direction is perfectly fine and just as good.
@@samfisher9661 In the beginning of the game its not Splinter Cell, its Hisham Hamza. Splinter Cells are not only Fisher after the first game. After the successfulness of said project was proven, NSA decided to recruit some more. But, the ones who know this fact are Fisher and his team. So, Splinter Cells other than Sam dont know that there are other Splinter Cell. The agent whom Fisher killed was one of them. They were given a mission to burn Fisher off and kill everyone from the JBA, but since Fisher already killed everyone (Except the girl) he managed to shoot the girl only.
Just hit me...isn't the Sam's daughter "death" plot and him going undercover in prison similar to Ethan Hunt's "dead" wife plot in Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol?
I hope they revive this series soon. Something that captures the essence of Chaos Theory; stealth focused, doesn’t give you too much power over enemies. Also… Spies vs Mercs!
Your opinion of chaos theory is, in fact, my own. I've literally bought it on every platform it has released on. Even the Nintendo DS. Terrible version of the game, but cool cuz it was like some version of my favorite game from another dimension. You even played the shit out of the bank heist mission. The coop was great I need more missions
Hey man, great retrospective, and I know I'm pretty late, but in Splinter Cell: Blacklist you mention that to get the best stealth gear, you have to play through missions made for it without having it. I feel like that's a great thing, since you basically have to prove that you aren't incompetent without the gear. Someone has probably pointed this out before but it scratched my brain the wrong way and I thought I'd give my thoughts on it. Again, great video, I am enjoying binging your catalogue as I've just recently found out about you.
I repeat the game after I finished it the first time because that way I can start with the best stealth suit upgrades and I also like the design of that best stealth suit, the one with the feathers like design in it.
absolutely agree. I do not understand the criticism that you don't get the best stuff from the get go. that's like basically every game. nearly every action game has some sort of progression.
My favourite is Chaos Theory as well. The addition of the knife was unreal. Also, I thought Double agent had some of the best moments and mechanics (trust metre 360 version) IMO. Shanghai Hotel and parachute jump levels were awesome.
This was a well put together video, I forgot that it was damn near an hour. Ubisoft should definitely consider either retiring Sam or telling another agent's story if they even give a shit about the franchise anymore (not showing anything at E3 is worrying) I'm definitely down for one last installment with Sam though, so long as they get Michael Ironside to voice him.
That's incredible, I've never really been drawn to this series although I do remember playing it on Xbox when it first came out. The one that I've played the most (I've played the original, conviction, and the last one) is blacklist. Thought it was a decent game but I never completed it. I don't even remember how, but I have a copy of chaos theory for ps2, so I'm going to give it a shot.
Let him face his most dangerous and compelling villain yet. Then, when the job is done, and he's realised he's too old for this shit, we see him sit down on a gorgeous, sunset beach in his Hawaiian shirt... Before we realise as he looks over his shoulder, it's the same place from pandora tomorrow. Just renovated and modernised. I don't want him to just kill some dude and roll to credits. Like in ghost recon, he's the last stealth hero left in gaming, and we need to give him the biggest sendoff of all time, as well as respecting and remembering the stealth action genre of the past.
I really do hope they give Sam a good send off, as well as a ode to Tom Clancy for everything hes done. I practically grew up with tom clancy games and then I went to the military myself and we were still playing them. You've never seen real competition til you've seen marines vs seals going at it in Rainbow 6
@@lionelhutz3142 No we're not. The agility and manoeuvrability of the player character makes for some slick and satisfying gameplay despite the age of Sam Fisher. I don't care if his fictional age is 100. I'm willing to suspend some disbelief in a video game as long as the gameplay itself is good.
@Greig91 Some older people are in very good shape. If some 50 somethings can run marathons, it's not too unbelievable for Sam to be as athletic as he is.
replace "most people are going to prefer it" with "scotch has an acquired taste with strong loyalty from those who like it" and your analogy would be more on point also you couldve added in how light beer is generally thought to be shallow in taste but refreshing and accessible, whereas scotch is for those who want to commit to the experience hi, I drink a lot
I have played Chaos Theory so many times I can ghost through it. I call it a 200% stealth run because you can get 100% knocking out guards and I see that as a no-no. Best stealth game ever!
... wow, the equipment upgrade system in Blacklist makes absolutely zero sense whatsoever. Sam Fisher is an intelligence and field operative that works for a specialized group within the NSA, why would he not automatically be issued with the best state of the art equipment the NSA had to offer? Last time I checked being a spy or a field operative, even for blackops, probably doesn't pay well.... its a service job, you are technically in "the service" like the military or law enforcement, you get paid a salary that's honestly not very high. Its not like Hitman who works for an independent international assassination firm. That actually makes sense because, well.. he's a contractor... he works for himself by proxy of an agency that gives him contracts to fulfill, so all his gear and methodology is completely at his own financial disposal. That just doesn't make sense AT ALL for Sam Fisher.
I love Sam as a character the way that he always wants to help people and how he’s ok with himself dying to save someone but will never let anyone who doesn’t have to die, die like how he stops to help brigs and when he was dying he yelled at brigs to keep going and ignore him
That introduction hit really close to home. When I was I kid, we used to do that with my friends as well. We used to try going across town without anyone seeing us. It was fun as hell.
Splinter Cell Logic: Government: "Sam do this mission for us again" Sam: "No way! I got a daughter to look after!" Government: "uhh uhh...sorry your daughter is dead!!" Sam: "Noo!!! I guess I have no choice but to do your mission!" Sam's IQ = 50
I never intended to watch this video, it just auto-played after something else I was watching that was entirely unrelated. I ended up watching the entire thing, taking me on a massive and unexpected nostalgia trip! I've played and love all the splinter cell games, so really appreciated how much you do as well. Thanks a lot for a very well made trip down memory lane.
And some 3 years after this video Ubisoft FINALLY says they're actually working on a new game lol Chaos Theory has always been my favorite. My brother and I spent countless hours in the co-op trying to climb on top of the rocket in the Silo mission to see if we could launch ourselves into orbit. And I spent probably twice as much time in the campaign playing mind games on all the bad guys 😂
@@riftsalty7562 the joke is that after FC3 almost all their games are open world games, with skill trees, lame side activities and collectibles. I’m just burned out on that formula. I want them to keep SC a mission based game with well crafted encounters etc.
''How long do you think it will take them to find the Frenchman?'' ''What do you mean Frenchman? We are all Frenchmen here'' ''I mean the FRENCH Frenchman'' Never gets old
Conviction may be the worst one, but it has the greatest moment in the series. When he shows up to the NSA and the chick is like "may I help you Mr...?" "Fisher, I used to work here" or something like that
Honestly Double Agent was the worst for me, I had the PC version which was broken as fuck (bugs, crashes, upgrades didn't unlock), I actually quite love Conviction, it's either my second or third fav SC game
Louis Kelemen i don’t know man, DA was the best for me. I kinda get that most people saw as a downgrade from chaos theory since most people played it on ps3 and 360 which was a complete downgrade from the ps2 version. But seriously though that grimy depressed atmosphere was so captivating!
The online gameplay for Double Agent felt far more enjoyable than the rest of the games. Conviction was a fucking joke (especially compared to Blacklist).
This is the third time I've watched this video, I am a huge Splinter Cell fan. I also recommend reading the books, at least the first few. The first book was the only book I ever read in a day..... It was awesome! Thanks for the awesome content Critical Nobody!!
First off, HOLY HELL thanks to everyone that watched this video. It's so cool to see it getting any kind of traction and helps ease the sting of Sam Fisher being completely absent from E3 this year. Really gives me hope for the future of this channel and my content
@Critical Nobody This is my first time checking out your channel and I have to say great job on this awesome...but asleep franchise. But how come you didn't review any of the handheld Splinter Cell games? I mean aren't they.... ( puts on shades) Essential?!? 😆🤣🤣
yep : Spy VS Mercs is still playable as of today. Just search for Super Bunnyhop vidéo called "Retro Review: Spies vs. Mercs 2005 (And how to play it today!)" ! ;)
Did you know that there are two versions of double agent? I had both for the original xbox and 360. The original xbox version is so much better and has coop
My first of the series was Chaos Theory, I remember this trailer with Sam sneaking around in the rain, looked fantastic. I replayed the first one more recently and it absolutely holds up really well, if only all almost 20 year old games help up nearly as well.
29:40 Im so glad you pulled this up because I played the ps2 version and the ending was amazing and the fact that coop was in parallel to the story and the two splintercells sam kills at the end are the coop cells
Yeah the 2 versions of Double Agent really confused me and my friend when I had the pc version and he had the ps2 version. We started talking about our games having no idea what the other was talking about.
I don't like Double Agents SPY VS SPY THAT IS SO BLAND WHY YOU GOD DAMN DEVELOPERS WHY DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND GENIUS LIKE SPY'S VS MERCS AAAAAAAAAAAAAQAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAQQ
just shoot a few lights in consumption, site f,private property, the special force Hq or even hackers' den, that still wont do much. It's mainly because there's unbreakable lights and you can see a shit ton of it in the background if you're in a military camp, prison, urban area. You won't get that dark wild area vibe in blacklist since you're mostly in places where people live/lived.
My Top 3 are: 3rd: the first Splinter Cell (because for what it was when released: new and awesome) 2nd: Black List ( I don`t care about the lore changes, it`s a fine game) 1st: Chaos Theory (no brainer)
ah man how can you have Blacklist so low?? I know it doesn't have Ironside but the Gameplay caters to both stealth and action. And the motion capture in that game is the best of any game out there.
RandomCommenterGuy Don’t get me wrong, I shouldn’t say I did not like its gameplay, just the game as a whole left me almost bitter. To agree with Critical Nobody, the character is not Sam Fisher. They would have earned a lot of good will points from me if they had the balls to make this another Splinter Cell agent, but the shoehorn of this new voice actor with all different mannerisms really killed the character of Sam Fisher for me. A character I hold within my all time greats. Secondly, though the gameplay is fun, It’s blended mechanics of either stealth or action (or a mix of both) felt a bit too fake to me. The Sam Fisher in the first 4 games moved so realistically, he had tangible weight and his actions, though slower, felt more real. This “Sam Fisher” glides around the place. He’s a top of the line hitman and a ninja combined. The original Fisher felt like a highly skilled guys guy who was calculating his next move within his own limits. Blacklist Fisher moves as if fate is clearing the area for him. The mechanics are just too off for my personal taste. Some say the faster more dynamic movement in Blacklist are just modern approaches to what gamers could expect to play like, but now that Blacklist has been out for years, it really does feel more artificial compared to the weightier more deliberate movements/patterns of the Ironside Splinter Cell games (Minus Conviction which is why I loathe that game). Conviction made Sam into Jason Bourne/Ethan Hunt who mostly sneaks around. I firmly believe that action elements should be the last spectrum of play styles developed for a Splinter Cell, even if it means losing Blacklist fans. If you try to cater to all playing demographics for a game, than not one of those systems is great. Since Splinter Cell is for stealth espionage, I say leave the action for Ghost Recon/Rainbow Six. I’d take the gameplay mechanics and pace of the missions (include direct combat mechanics) in the first 4 Splinter Cell games over a similar design than that of Blacklist. Any day.
All great points. I can't argue any of them. I understand you preferring the calculated movements of the first 4. I did too. As a high energy kid, it strangely taught me patience and a different way to play video games. My first game I ever beat by myself was the first splinter cell so the old splinter cells will always be special to me and the old mechanics. But we all know things can't stay the same. They adapt or die so splinter cell had to evolve. I loved the Bourne movies and the newer splinter cells did emulate that. So for me, I was totally fine with Ubisoft going in that direction. I know man, I'm an OG splinter fan like yourself who played them back in the day. But i can't deny how fun the "ninja" gameplay is to play and execute when done correctly. Thats why I'm happy that they have both options cause I like them both. I know that because of this none of these options will be perfect but it's a compromise we'll have to endure to keep splinter cell alive. I think Blacklist did a good job of letting you choose what Splinter Cell you wanted to be. One that kept action as a last resort or made it the main approach. I understand you saying the movements felt artificial but for me it just made me feel like a master martial artist which i'm ok with. Ubisoft doesn't have an easy job. To meet everyone's preference is impossible. I'm grateful for the old games and talking to people like you about how awesome they were. Also, I'm having a blast with the new ones. I'm excited for the future. Each Splinter cell game has been unique and different from the others in its own way and I don't expect anything less from the new one thats coming. And when it comes out we can have another discussion on how well it lived up to the Splinter Cell name.
Great video. I have all the splinter cell games. I was mostly pissed when Sam's voice changed but I loved every game. Chaos theory was a total 10. I am currently playing through all the games now and experience all the nostalgia I could ever want. Blacklist was the best for fluidity, playstyle and versatility of character movement and options. Panther style is the way to go.
blacklist got solid co-op too. I got a friend, that we were close loooong time ago and we loved games. Now we dont talk much, but when he calls, i know its the time of a year to play some blacklist :D Its guaranted good time :)
Excellently put together video! Well written and recorded and I appreciated all the extra effort you went to in illustrating your points about the different games. As a big fan of the series as well it was a treat to go down memory lane. If you get the chance, I highly recommend checking out my Metal Gear reviews as we have really similar thoughts regarding the stealth genre. Awesome job man!
This video sparked SUCH a nostalgic trip down memory lane for me. It has been basically a decade since I’ve played an SC game, but I was an Uber fan (my first RUclips account was actually “SamFisher147”). I love your video. Got a new subscriber here. Unfortunately, I got rid of all my old consoles and games, now I only have an Xbox one. Thankfully, because of this video, I checked out the Microsoft Store and found all 6 games 70% off and got them all for $35. I never completed Conviction or even played Blacklist, so I look forward to following your footsteps back through this series from start to finish. Still holding onto hope for a 7th and final, proper sendoff for ol’ Sam like you. Thanks for renewing my interest in this incredible series!
Having a new splintercell game with the mechanics/movements of chaos theory would fit so well with improved graphics and other tweaks because Sam is so old it would make sense for his movements to be more heavy/grounded and slow since his age, like in chaos theory or double agent, and you would really need to rely on pure stealth, not flying across ledges like a comic ninja! Really hope they can bring back the feel of chaos theory and double agent!
Pandora Tomorrow was my first splinter cell game and I think to this day it’s one of the best games ever made, and chaos theory was close. I remember when I played it I was young and the scene where the guy gets electrocuted in a bathtub still stuck with me to this day
I love this video. It was over fifty minutes long and didn't seem to drag on or get boring in the least. I'm a Splinter Cell fan and quite enjoyed this video. Great job Critical Nobody!!
The 7th gen version of Double Agent is legit super underrated. It looks and performs great on the Series X and the undercover JBA missions where you can’t knock anyone out are the purest form of stealth and really make you feel like a Double Agent… unlike the undercover missions on the 6th gen version which are literally just regular missions that happen to take place at the JBA HQ.
Matias Bonta The animation itself is terrible right there, that's all. The material just pops out of existence. Was a funny critisicm of the words used at the moment and the clip he showed at that exact moment. No need to attack the OP, ya know.
Out of all those games, my favorite ones are: Chaos Theory, for obvious reasons. Conviciton, because honestly i did not see the game as tatical stealth, given the way it was presented to me. Blacklist, beacuse i love the whole "engage or not, the choice is yours" mechanics that the game have.
Amazing review I loved Pandora tomorrow because of the variety of environments and atmospheric gameplay, the amazing ost theme was perfect for what splinter cell represented, I'll always remember the whole level in a moving train, the stunning dusk at Timor, the gorgeous cloudy dawn in Komodo, the Indonesian Jungle, the beautiful rainy streets of Jakarta.. Chaos theory didn't have that variety nor did I remember its main ost theme but holy cow the gameplay was so RICH, spot on with those details. The true peak of infiltration genre

I never played D A for next gen, but I remember being a kid and thinking sam was uoset about enricas death because she was around his daughters age.

Too badass!
Sam Fisher used to be such a great character, hate how they butchered him Blacklist
Great just fucking great!
@@journey95far49 Michael ironside was Sam Fisher the character died when they replaced him.
Makes you wonder if Ironside got to give any input to the script.
Real reason why we don't get new Splinter Cell is because Sam Fisher infriltrated Ubisoft and destroyed anything that could be traced down to him.
So he destroyed his own game
Holy shit thats one plot twist
It's funny. A few years ago, Ubisoft montreal made a contest to win a drone. The question was what would you do with a drone? something original. I said that i would use it to spy on them and finally get some answer about a new splinter cell (After blacklist) and i won. your comment reminded me of that.

Kirschi_ and the original Xbox version is just as good as the Xbox 360 one!

And in 2017, the chaos theory visuals means nothing, let's be honest lol the gameplay remains cool tho, too slow and robotic sometimes, but cool.
tasty rememberberries? Blacklist is the jam highest difficulty terrorist hunt INTENSE
I am full of passiom when playing chaos theory
I can CLEARLY tell? You cannot assume that I clearly tell, that is not identical to what you mean.
Me and my buddy 100% stealthed every co-op mission to perfection in Chaos Theory and it took us hours to master the patterns and strategies, It was the best summer ever.
Lucky my buddy would just bash in the door with me on the other side. That being said it was great playing this game with a friend.
My brother and I bonded over chaos theory like never before.
It was wonderful
I cant play stealth games with friends any more it just seems no one can do it anymore because i was live streaming metal gear phantom pain in the middle of the base and my friend was watching hes probably only like 12 or 13 and hes like i probably couldnt handle a stealth game since its so tince and thats when i realized omg its been so long since this modern generation had a stealth game kids legit cant handle it, i play alot of stealth games and crack under pressure when in a shoot out but this gen cracks under pressure from stealth its almost like its switched!
Anybody remember Bob and Steve? Good times.

It should be an option that can be turned on and off in every game
for instance, Uncharted 4 did it perfectly
all other mission in double agent(version1) is in daylight so no need of hud but in the other double agent there are more night mission in version 1 had only 1 night mission with Sam fully equipped
That's what I hated about Double Agent on PS3/360, it had all day missions. The PS2 version was definitely better.

Chaos Theory was something that changed my life forever. I have fully completed it about 15 times (I wish it was an overstatement) and loved every bit of it... except that mission in Japan where there is a steam room and a bomb and some guys with IR goggles chasing you.

Couldn't agree more. You have to acknowledge someone with Tobin's musical imagination, it truly is a gift. How does he come up with these scores, I have no idea. But he's a genius.
Tobin also did the menu music and White House mission music in Conviction. It really stands out.

Splinter Cell: Conviction is exactly like Hitman Absolution. I LOVE them but they do not feel like they belong in their respective franchises and are the black sheep of their series.
You can add Thief 4 to that list.
Also both of them were the 5th in their series
Wait, I thought Absolution was like Conviction. Which one came first?
I liked both those games even though I understand all their flaws and why people dislike them
@@TG-ge1oh Conviction came first, in 2010. Absolution was released in 2012. Both of them were my forays into those respective franchises. I was very late to the party!
Pandora tomorrow was the first stealth game I’ve ever played and it’s still one of my favorite genres to this day
It’s not perfect and is pretty unforgiving. But once you get used to it, it’s actually pretty good at times. And I personally prefer the voice acting for Lambert in this one.

It truly is one of the Splinter Cells ever made
Always been a fan of these games (along with MGS), that offer something other than violence as a solution.

Chaos Theory was that shizzzzzzz..., probably the best stealth game ever created.
Are there any other good stealth games or is it just splinter cell?

When I entered this video, I had Conviction as my favorite, but now I see that Chaos Theory it's far superior as a stealth game. But I still love Conviction, since it's the closest thing we ever got to a John Wick game, even though I understand that Conviction is not what people expect from a Splinter Cell game
I love Chaos Theory, easily my most favorite of the series. But I’ll be honest, Conviction is my second favorite, I really enjoyed the heck out of it. (Ubi Shanghai’s Pandora Tomorrow and Double Agent didn’t hit it for me really)
I adored Conviction and my best friend and I lost it at the co-op twist.
Still have to try Chaos Theory.
If you wanna real John Wick game check the first Watch_Dogs and Payday 2 with mods (it's the closest to John Wick simulator you will ever get, espesially with some skill builds and weapon mods + there is a link somewhere for a free pencil melee - enjoy).
It's my canon ending
Yeah, I think it peaked with chaos theory but I have a soft spot for conviction due to the personal nature of the story for sam. And having him move fast and light and do the panther style gameplay made sense with the narrative. I just wish it had returned to form after that.
I’ve come back to this video Atleast 9 times, along with the hitman video. Both are my absolute guilty pleasures when I wanna watch the games I mainly played in my childhood. Always great stuff man.
Splinter Cell Chaos Theory is not just a stealth game, it is THE stealth game.
Reply to F4CU R3TR0:
That would be fantastic, I want that, but will probably will never get. As of now, splinter cell is in a pit of despair, I know Sam Fisher is in R6 but that does not add to his character ark so that doesn’t count. If Ubisoft would stop focusing of stupid ass packs and season passes and actually focus on what makes a game fun and replayable, we could get that.
Imagine a Spliter Cell 1 remake with the graphics of Blacklist, and a combination between the Chaos Theory and Blacklist controls
@@MrR3TR0 I'd rather see new games. Call it Splinter Cell Origins and have it take place between Splinter Cell and Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow. Game Shock and you have THE splinter cell game
Game Shock well, how about this: Half of the plot is between the first game and Pandora Tomorrow, with the old team and the old controls. The other half is in the present, with the blacklist team and controls

chaos theory always makes me want to use axe body spray
Useless fact of the day - "Axe" body spray is called "Lynx" in England. The copy rights of the product name "Axe" is already owned by another company in England so a different name had to be used in that country.
victortheripper In the original release, AXE had a lot of presence in the game. Billboards and such. Same with a mobile phone carrier that I think no longer exists. Their logo was something like a weird 4-pointed orange blob with a dot/head. AXE even had a neon sign perched a rooftop that you ziplined from to reach an adjacent building.
Edit: It was Cingular.
victortheripper I mean, I could have just played that version recently... but, in truth, I haven't. That memory is at least 10 years old. Fuck me.
same lol. I remember seeing nokia and a surge vending machine in the first game, i think in the remastered version they changed it to a coke machine because surge was no longer a company later on.
Don't forget about some Airwaves.
What they should've done with the series, as Ironsides is getting older and can't do mocap or whatever, is to make Sam the new Lambert and have him mentor and command a new, younger splinter cell. Like they did with Dieter in Rainbow 6.
sounds solid. no reason he can't train the new splinter cells
A lot like Bruce Wayne becoming the support and mentor of the "Batman Beyond"
If you played Syphon Filter The Omega Strain they could've done something like that where you're a new agent within an established cast.
(Although, the emulation isn't very accurate)
Turns out that there was supposed to be much more story to NPP from cut levels like Severonickel (Shortened to Kola Cell), Mining Town (Not found yet), and Shipyard (Shortened to the Vselka DLC missions) than when you initially covered it in your PS2 versions review which is why the story didn't make sense initially when doing the extraction.
I just hope splinter cell returns to its stealth based gameplay of chaos theory.

Again, great video, I am enjoying binging your catalogue as I've just recently found out about you.

... wow, the equipment upgrade system in Blacklist makes absolutely zero sense whatsoever.
Chaos theory: the OST man!? Amon Tobin crushed it!

ah man how can you have Blacklist so low??

I remember when I played it I was young and the scene where the guy gets electrocuted in a bathtub still stuck with me to this day
I watch this vid once a Month , your reviews are great especially when it’s about the games I love , so thank you !
I love this video. It was over fifty minutes long and didn't seem to drag on or get boring in the least. I'm a Splinter Cell fan and quite enjoyed this video. Great job Critical Nobody!!
Blacklist: Starring Samuel Fischer
Hey man. This is the first video I saw of yours and you are damn funny.
And you really put effort in it.
14:51 "The Fluid Animations"
as you cut cloth at 3 fps lol
That was great, I didn't notice it. Love the reviews, that was just bad timing lol
Did you even play the game? That's a paper wall from the Hokkaido mission
1. How am I supposed to know?
2. The game never mentions it.
3. I'm talking about the animations...
Matias Bonta The animation itself is terrible right there, that's all. The material just pops out of existence. Was a funny critisicm of the words used at the moment and the clip he showed at that exact moment. No need to attack the OP, ya know.
True, the cloth cutting was really smooth, I played the game but never noticed that this happened before.
Out of all those games, my favorite ones are:
Chaos Theory, for obvious reasons.
Conviciton, because honestly i did not see the game as tatical stealth, given the way it was presented to me.
Blacklist, beacuse i love the whole "engage or not, the choice is yours" mechanics that the game have.
Chaos Theory really is a perfect game, still, it will just always be amazing.
Amazing review
I loved Pandora tomorrow because of the variety of environments and atmospheric gameplay, the amazing ost theme was perfect for what splinter cell represented, I'll always remember the whole level in a moving train, the stunning dusk at Timor, the gorgeous cloudy dawn in Komodo, the Indonesian Jungle, the beautiful rainy streets of Jakarta..
Chaos theory didn't have that variety nor did I remember its main ost theme but holy cow the gameplay was so RICH, spot on with those details. The true peak of infiltration genre
