Most times I learn a lot and some info I did not know and look into. Keep up the great work! Looking forward to your next video.
I just recently purchased a 2020 3.0 ltr 6 cyl Chevy Diesel and get over 30 on highway and 25 in city and says can pull up to 13,300lbs!! Love it! 4 door crew cab!!
Hey Scotty. Love your videos but cannot believe you didn't mention the Honda Ridgeline. There wasn't even a video or a picture of one. It has been the highest rated truck in its class over the years. Its competitve payload numbers and the only truck in its class to be able to lie 4 ft wide building materials flat in its bed allow it to function as a family truck and a mild work truck. I have a 2019 Ridgeline but passed up a Tacoma for better options. Give some more love to the Ridgeline. Keep posting and I'll keep watching.
That's because the Honda Ridgeline ISN'T a truck, it's an suv with the rear top removed and should NEVER be considered anything other than a Japanese Elcamino. Which ISN'T a truck, it's a car with a bed, nothing more.
Just drove a Ridgeline half hour ago and fell in love It’s fabulous To say a Ridgeline isn’t a truck is to say a corvette isn’t a car cause it’s built like most trucks body on frame just and fyi guys
I think I'll take the old fashion option. I'll buy a 60's to 90's Chevy and build that up. A well built 350 with dual ram air and 400 turbo trani. That has enough pulling power for the average person. Now if you are pulling a bigger boat or horse trailer over the pass you probably want a diesel. Not very average loads. Thanks for your videos. I use your information all the time. Keep on trucking Scotty, take care.
The best truck you can buy is one that fits your budget and that YOU like. You don’t want to be married to your truck payment. As far as quality goes. I’m a Toyota Tacoma fan and a for fan but everyone is different. UNFORTUNATELY ….. nobody (even Toyota) makes an exceptional quality vehicle in this day and age. I have had a lot of trucks , 3/4 , 1/2 and midsize. I get a new one every year. I prefer midsize because I like to use it for trail riding in the woods and the full size usually does not fit down the trails and exploring I like to do. Bottom line , you work hard for your money and no one pays for it accept you. Don’t try to keep up with the guy next door. You’ll just be unhappy on the long run. Have a great day ✌🏻
Hey man, I don’t mean to ask a dumb question but I was wondering if the older (late 90’s to early 2000’s) would be a better buy. I don’t really want an outrageous note and like you said, I don’t want to be married to the payments. What would you suggest?
When I got my truck the Honda Ridgeline RTL fit my needs. I tested a Ranger and Tacoma but didn’t like them. Also the tacoma seemed to have less power then the Ridgeline and I had more problems getting in and out of it then the Ridgeline. I get 30 mpg on Highway with eco mode on . I do know the ridgeline is basically a Honda pilot with the bed.
It funny You mentioned a Ridgeline, Because my wife was daily driving a 2020 Civic Sport 6 speed manual, Now She daily drives a 2020 Black Edition Ridgeline, She says I would never drive the Car again if it weren't better on Gasoline, The tires cost the same Thanks to Honda not going over 18" wheels. She Absolutely likes here new ride .🇺🇸👍🇨🇦
My neighbor had a loaded out F-150 King Ranch. Zero issues (stunning interior) but realized once he retired he no longer need that much truck. Took my advice and now drives a Ridgeline.
@@nucleargrizzly1776 Smart better on Gasoline and overall more user friendly for light duty work makes perfect sense, I own a real so called truck with a V8 it also only gets 18 mpg at best. So I get it, Sure you can buy a $70.000 truck with a 10 speed that's better on Gas but who wants that payment Not ME.
@@nucleargrizzly1776 O wow some reviewers must be way off then, Not surprised, Yes I know the Ridgeline has a timing belt that needs to be replaced but I'm good with that because I do my Own work successfully now of course I'm a Diesel Mechanic, But it's much easier and cheaper than a timing Chain setup found on Fords etc. I see those aren't holding up Great anyways 😁.
Love the truck content! Would love to see a video on HD options. Good years. Years to stay away from. Brand comparisons. I realise that would be a smaller market, but I would personally be grateful for a Scotty opinion video. If not, I still love the videos, you have taught me a lot. Thank you!
I have liked my Nissan Frontier pickups. My 2002 Supercharged King Cab Desert runner gave me 360,000 trouble free miles (and gave my son 100,000 more for a total of 460,000).. My son gave it to his mechanic and it's, still on the road. My 2010 King Cab LE also gave me 360,000 trouble free miles. My current Frontier is a 2016 SV Crew Cab I picked up in 2020 with 50,000 miles. I'm at 80,000 and it has been great. It tows well and drives nicely, though I plan to change out the wheels and tires to 20". I won't touch an EV with a ten foot pole. I like for my trucks to do truck stuff when called upon.
Mpg is always a concern. But I wish you would do this same segment on engine/transmission reliability and lifespan. Having a truck that gets great gas mileage doesn't matter much if all that saved money on fuel gets dumped right back into the vehicle on repairs when 40-60k miles later the engine or tranny starts having problems or fails. Also realistic OTD pricing is very different from msrp. Wish you would do a segment on which manufacturers rake you over the coals the Most with actual average pricing Over msrp, and which manufacturers vehicles tend to be closest to MSRP. For the intended informative goal though, great segment Scotty.
Excellent point on mpg vs reliability, and price for that matter, as Scotty said about a used car, “Yeah the gas mileage ain’t what it used to be but this guy saved 8k on it an that buys a whole lot of gas!”
Looked at a 2023 Chevy Colorado - fully loaded with everything except the sunroof - reasonable price for what you were getting until I saw the $5000 "Supply Chain Disruption" surcharge tacked on. I drove away in my perfectly fine 2005 Chevy Colorado
Dang that's a lot of information 🤯 But, I need a truck, to move back home to central Cali from Oklahoma. So Thank you for what you do. I'm 63 F, and I have depended on your videos and so far you have not let me down. Thank you so much ❤
I love my 2023 Ford Maverick Hybrid (40+ MPG real world). Only $24.000 and perfect for my needs. I have hauled and towed more items and weight than I thought I would.
I didn't see a 2024 Final Edition Ram TRX BUT, I absolutely love MINE. ! Also my 2019 Ram 1500 Laramie, full cab 4 door, ( not crew cab) with all the options is a road trip Cadillac, and still an absolute joy. I've never owned a Ford that didn't live at the Hospital despite your multiple videos on how they're the greatest. Thx for all the homework you do
The best truck is the one I had before someone ran into it: A 1984 Ford F150 long bed with a carburateted 300 inline 6 and a granny 4 speed. Easy to work on not a complcated system, tough dependable engine! 10K bought new.
I bought an 18 Chevy Crewcab Lt 1500 with the 5.3. It replaced a 97 GMC Extended cab SLE 1500. So far the Chevy suits my needs and has had just routine maintenance done. I had the GMC for 19 years, we will see how long the Chevy lasts. Thanks for all the content you provide.
Just bought my 2017 Ford F150 XLT super cab with the 5.0 engine at 69,102 miles and I absolutely love this truck! Hopefully I will have this truck for many years to come!
I’ll take a 23 Tacoma if going small & a 21 Tundra if going bigger. No stupid annoying stop/start & no cylinder deactivation to avoid future lifter failure.
Not a fan of turbo 4s with trucks. More moving parts means more things breaking or needing maintenance and the gas mileage difference is negligible. I would have mentioned the Nissan frontier which still comes with a tried and true n/a v6 at the midsize level. I have a 2016 f150 with a 5.0 and love it and have had no issues.
Glad I bought my 2020 Toyota Tundra before the redesign. 5.7L V8, 6 speed Aisin tranny, and 4.30 axle pulls my bay boat like a dream. At my age, probably the last truck I’ll ever own.
Chevy got one in the yard that has 589,765 miles on it btw it has the 5.3v8 still going never had anything done to it but we had a 18 f-150 with the 5.0v8 at 63,654 miles it blew up just bought a titan last year and we have put 32,598 miles on it and done nothing to it yet so far so good
Would anyone buy a truck with no USB charging, no electric windows, no Bluetooth or wireless charging, no leather seats, no heads up display, ,no digital infotainment system, many wouldn't buy without these things, the list could go on
@@Peye-pv4cb yes, power windows and locks are not a necessity, or leather. wireless stuff can be added later pretty easily if needed. I just care if it works like it should and is reliable at what it does.
It’s just nice to know that there are so many brands with so many configurations of pickups in this country. Personally I like the Toyota brand for reliability and resale value but they don’t have the really big tow haulers. Everybody can buy a truck for their individual needs. I would just recommend not buying one of the new generation model of any brand. Wait for the second or third year to give the manufacturer time to work any problems out and you’ll likely avoid the issues that come with them.
Well since you asked, first truck was an 88 s10 with an iron duke! Killer right! I drive it 80 miles a day 6 days a week for 4 years to my job as a mechanic. 3 months ago I bought a 17 f150 5.0 and boy is it smooth compared to my old beast. Cheers Scotty you a real OG 🤙🏼
I like the format! Would love to see more in-depth versions that include used trucks and focus on reliability and maintenance. A Ridgeline mention would also be appreciated.
At Scotty's advice I kept my 2010 tundra limited with 217 k. After a 14 month wait, and price protection, I just took delivery of my 2023 maverick XLT hybrid for around the town stuff, and for me and my standard poodle and to get in and out of much easier!
We use my wife's vehicle as our main transportation so if I bought a truck I'd probably get an extended cab (not crew cab) a long bed, and just a base model.
Used to be a Ford F 250-150 guy. Always had them never any problems. Last Ford was a V6 ranger. 97. Got 250,000 out of it. 2015 Bought a new Tacoma 4x4V6. Love it. Very reliable. Sold on them now. New 24 ones not so much
I actually need a new truck because my 95 1500 5.2 ram has 500k plus miles and its just falling apart. Still runs though only major issue I ever had with it was the fuel pump. I honestly would get a white commercial single cab xl bed. I would just get a good work truck without all the bells and whistles. I really wish they offered a modern truck with an analog dash. All I ever do when looking into purchasing a vehicle is " how many things can go wrong " . Thank you for all the great videos Scotty!
@@adoptdontbuy1 I'm a Toyota fan boy...had four Tacomas and a 4Runner in a row. Loved them all. Decided to jump ship...just bought a '23 Frontier Midnight Edition. Damn fine truck.
Great video. I just love my 2020 F350 diesel 4 door 8ft bed pickup. I like it so much. I pre ordered a 2024 F450 with high output 6.7. Partly to say screw the ev world. I'm keeping my diesel pickup.
Scotty, i’m glad you took the time to make this video. Personally, I have no real use for a pick up truck I don’t even like the way they look. I’m kind of upset that they’ve gotten rid ofV8’s but I also despise electronic power brakes. Unfortunately, this is not the way of the worldworld. I also dislike EV cars trucks and so on. I agree with you. We are not ready for electric vehicles. They are inefficient now I will say once we can get to the level that an electric vehicle can go 1000 miles and recharge in about 15 minutes then electric vehicles will be viable until then they’re a big toy.
It seems there are good and bad experiences with all of the brands. I currently have a 2021 Ram 1500 Sport which is my third Ram Sport. All were reliable including my current one * Knock on wood * Always loved the look, great interiors, comfortable for a tall guy like me, and the Hemi is still a great V8. Nice trim for your money if you currently don't buy brand new.
I have had a few trucks, Dodge Power Wagon, Ford F-150 (400 c.i. V-8) Mazda B2200 long bed, liked it best for the fuel economy. But, I think I am done with trucks, as my MDX can carry a lot, even plywood on the roof racks. & my wife likes the ride. With AWD, we almost never break traction. Thank you for your videos.
My only complaint about my 6-cyl. Tacoma is the expensive timing belt that will run close to $1K, but manuals are hard to find, so I bought it anyway. I wish I had the 4.
@@elultimo102 The Tacoma 3.5L V6 2gr-fks has a timing chain. As did the previous 4.0L 1gr-fe. The Honda Ridgeline V6 has a timing belt, which isn't hard to change out yourself.
@@Andyshine77 My '98 6 cyl. 3.4 has the belt. That's one reason I wanted a 4 cyl., but rust-free stick shifts ae rare, so I bought the 6 cyl. (Two repair manuals advised having the belt kit installed by a pro, unless you have previously done the job----which I never did.)
Very well put together Scotty. This video is perfectly well put together for the viewer and helped me understand what I need to look for in a truck this helped out a lot! A true OG on car content on the internet and no one is topping the quality of information you provide in just ONE video 🙏🏽🙏🏽
I currently drive a '21 Tundra. Before that, I had a couple of Tacomas. Since owning those 3 pickups, I've never paid for a single repair. Can't say the same about my last Chevy that had a rear window latch come off in my hand OR the Ford that left me stranded out-of-state because the wiring harness melted together (shortly after the warranty expired). And now that I'm in my 60s--I don't have time for that kind of crap.
And after paying to have the wiring harness replaced on the Ford (and Ford Motor Co basically telling me to "suck it") I realized I couldn't afford to drive a Ford ever again.
My 2007.5 Dodge Cummins 6.7 3500 quad cab 4 wheel Drive. Love the Truck. And, I passed the Ford diesels, and Chevy. They were 17,000, and 23,000, so I bought it to work, then my body gave out. "M.S." Still have the Truck still.
Welcome to [Asap trucking], your premier destination for all things trucks! We're a family-owned and operated business dedicated to providing top-quality trucks, expert service, and unbeatable prices.
Already made up my mind about trucks but did a nice job in presentation and it is a lot of work. Tow and tongue ratings are always a pain. Worked in the RV industry for decades. Good advice Scotty. Get more than you think you want. Why? Invariably people step up or end up with more and now that truck won't be enough. Surprised you could get a new truck anything for under 25k.
I bought a used 2019 Chevy Colorado WT with a 4cyl and it's amazing. Gas milage is great, smooth ride, pretty roomy inside for a smaller truck, I hear they can tow a fair amount for what it is, its a crew cab and it suits me to a T. It's not the fastest or flashiest thing on the road, but it's perfect for me.
Thank you Scotty for this video. I to am a Toyota and Ford fan. In my opinion those two companies make the best cars and trucks out of any company. You really know your information and you are very knowledgeable on every car made. And you are a great mechanic. I watch your videos and save them all the time to know how to repair things on my and other folks cars
I have two regular cab V8 Tundra trucks, both have the towing package. The 2002 is a 4WD 4.7L long bed, and the 2007 is a RWD 5.7L short bed. The only new truck on the market that interest me in the least is the yet to be released Toyota Stout, hopefully they offer a regular cab...
Nice presentation. I have a 2004 Silverado 2500. Over 275k on her with original power train. Pulled a lot of weight and was a great work truck. Now, am retired and looking for one of those compact trucks. The Maverick has caught my attention but also you spoke positively about the Nissan Frontier so…
I've had a 82 Toyota small truck with the 22r engine a 2002 Tundra 5.7 v8 and my current truck a 2017 Tundra limited 4x4 offroad.I can tell you from experience everyone of theese trucks ive owned are bulletproof.
Make diesels great again 💪 Pickup trucks + diesel engines are the best combo, no strain on the engine, better fuel economy, torque available all the time. Yes but with modern emissions standard diesels are getting out of hand.
Thank you Scotty for your hard work - appreciated!! I once owned a 2005 Chevy Avalanche LT which I did really enjoy. But the fuel cost was outrageous. It was a lifestyle truck that never went off-road. Eventually I sold it and used my '92 Caddy Brougham pulling a small Home Depot trailer rental. And even that was once every couple years. I'm over the truck thing now and stick with sedans.
We bought a brand new 2021 f150. It was in the shop a ton even the first week due to someone not connecting the right wires so it was driving like it was missing out. Tons of recalls too and at 46k had major repairs needed thankfully still under warranty. Crazy. And the Ford dealer repair shops here in Houston are so overwhelmed that they tell you to drop it off and they will access it in 48 hours. Not repair just look at it. Since the major repair and warranty was about to end, we traded it for 2022 Ram Hemi V8. Better smoother ride and that V8 purrs
Love the concept of the maverick. It will never be a serious workhorse but I live in a townhouse with a single car garage and just don't need the big truck. What I need is throw bikes in back, carry small furniture like bookshelves or a fridge. Maybe tow a small camper or small utility trailer. I know toyota and nissan have them and are selling them in other markets so why don't they bring them to North America?
Pretty sure it has something to do with CAFE regulations and chicken tax. Thanks to our wonderful politicians and EPA. Another shining example of government overreach. Just imagine if we could get these small, unmolested diesel pickups that are sold worldwide...

I have a 2019 Ridgeline but passed up a Tacoma for better options. Give some more love to the Ridgeline. Keep posting and I'll keep watching.
Unibody isn’t a truck
It’s an suv with a bed. A ford ranchero isn’t a truck
That's because the Honda Ridgeline ISN'T a truck, it's an suv with the rear top removed and should NEVER be considered anything other than a Japanese Elcamino.
Which ISN'T a truck, it's a car with a bed, nothing more.
@@deadbird295 By that logic the Maverick shouldn't be in this video either.
Just drove a Ridgeline half hour ago and fell in love It’s fabulous To say a Ridgeline isn’t a truck is to say a corvette isn’t a car cause it’s built like most trucks body on frame just and fyi guys
This video was super awesome and extremely well put together. More of these! Scotty is getting better and better
"Traini"?
350 is lame. Iron LS from a new truck with a cam and you can get intake manifolds built for carbs
@@mikechevreaux7607 Nickname for "transmission"
That’s a truck that’ll last forever
Getting a depreciating asset every year sounds good
@@richj011 it’s a write off for me and I have a lot of money.
@@raymondreiff8170 His was a Turbo V6 with a 10 speed. Didn't get much better than 18mpg in spite of what Ford claims.
Thank you!
The Toyotas look really nice. I love how they seem to last longer than most other brands.
Yeah, I love my 2021 Frontier. 75k good miles so far
Loving my 2021 Frontier as well- the 3.8 litre 310 h.p. engine pulls like a sportscar to 7k rpm.❤@TheConservativesrock
i wanted to like the frontier but the steering is just insanely difficult.
Scotty never disappoints with his uploads, only shocks.
Bingo
Only the hybrid give good mileage?
Both trucks are 2wd models.
Thanks for a comprehensive breakdown of today's trucks. Makes me appreciate even more my 1996 Chevrolet C1500 and 2001 Dodge Ram.
Just bought my 2017 Ford F150 XLT super cab with the 5.0 engine at 69,102 miles and I absolutely love this truck! Hopefully I will have this truck for many years to come!
How’s your truck so far I’m about to buy myself a 2020 5.0 with 67000 miles
I took a page out of your reliability formula. Ford F-150, Coyote 5.0 V8, 4WD Crew cab 6-speed trans. Love this truck.
Buy a Toyota, it’s built Toyota tuff.

Chevy got one in the yard that has 589,765 miles on it btw it has the 5.3v8 still going never had anything done to it but we had a 18 f-150 with the 5.0v8 at 63,654 miles it blew up just bought a titan last year and we have put 32,598 miles on it and done nothing to it yet so far so good
Great video Scotty! I'm still just floored at prices of trucks these days, I remember when trucks were the cheaper option on the lot!
$100+k
Would anyone buy a truck with no USB charging, no electric windows, no Bluetooth or wireless charging, no leather seats, no heads up display, ,no digital infotainment system, many wouldn't buy without these things, the list could go on
@@Peye-pv4cb I would! Because I don't use any of those things! I have a plain Jane truck and it's everything I need.
@@Peye-pv4cb yes, power windows and locks are not a necessity, or leather. wireless stuff can be added later pretty easily if needed. I just care if it works like it should and is reliable at what it does.
Which is why owners are keeping their old trucks for much longer! Especially Toyotas, ford, and old gm trucks
I just found about you. You are a generous man for giving us all the knowledge. Thank you!
2010 tundra is a good year ?
We use my wife's vehicle as our main transportation so if I bought a truck I'd probably get an extended cab (not crew cab) a long bed, and just a base model.
Used to be a Ford F 250-150 guy. Always had them never any problems. Last Ford was a V6 ranger. 97. Got 250,000 out of it. 2015 Bought a new Tacoma 4x4V6. Love it. Very reliable. Sold on them now. New 24 ones not so much
Scotty, you have an excellent way of explaining ting that are easy to understand! Thank you!
Great information Scotty. Helps when you categorize the trucks the way you did and explain the upside as well as the downside.
I wish all truck manufacturers would give you the option of naturally aspirated v8,v6, 4 or hybrid option with all engines. No turbos no supercharge.
Fun video, Scotty you make awesome videos about cars. It appeals to both beginner and veteran car persons alike, which is great, keep them posting!
You missed the redesigned Nissan Frontier.
Agree, it’s an awesome truck for the price. Planning to pickup the pro4x next month.

2017 Nissan Titan XD, single cab, 5.6 liter v8, 7 speed trans, long bed. No frills just a good solid work truck. Best truck I've owned so far.
I bought an new 2017 f250 6.2 gas crew cab 6.75 bed and it is still under 16,000 miles. Great truck
I’m in the vortex of I want each one… or a little of each combined
I have had a few trucks, Dodge Power Wagon, Ford F-150 (400 c.i. V-8) Mazda B2200 long bed, liked it best for the fuel economy. But, I think I am done with trucks, as my MDX can carry a lot, even plywood on the roof racks. & my wife likes the ride. With AWD, we almost never break traction. Thank you for your videos.
They can keep there twin turbo V6’s, if they don’t put V8’s in them now, don’t want them, or at least leave the plain V6 in the Tacoma

My go to truck is my 94 Celica equipped with no Stupid Car/Truck Payment.

What truck comes up top? 🤔
I love my Honda Ridgeline, I didn’t need a full size pickup anymore. It is non-turbocharged and has the bulletproof Honda V-6.

Put these pickups in order Best to worst. Gmc, chevy, ford and ram?
Thank you Scotty for your hard work - appreciated!! I once owned a 2005 Chevy Avalanche LT which I did really enjoy. But the fuel cost was outrageous. It was a lifestyle truck that never went off-road. Eventually I sold it and used my '92 Caddy Brougham pulling a small Home Depot trailer rental. And even that was once every couple years. I'm over the truck thing now and stick with sedans.
Why didn't you off-road with it? I off-road with my Titan Pro-4x.

Love our Rams. Nearly 200k on our 2012 Hemi and runs great. Very reliable truck. Had a 2004 Hemi before that and also a great truck.
Thanks for the video. My favorite truck is the 2006 GMC 2500 HD diesel.
