I've had many people ask about my life struggles, background, relationships, and some things I've said on Polar Warriors. It's very rare that I'll go "off topic" and discuss something outside of Mental Health on my channel, but I think it's good for those who support what I'm doing to know a little more about me.
Today I'm going to talk a little about the start of this Bipolar support channel, additional struggles I have with my health, some of my relationship history, and a few notable things I've done with my life. I hope this helps address some of the questions people ask, and provide some insight into what "makes me - me!"
If this is your first time visiting our channel, welcome to "the Polar Warrior club!" We are completely dedicated to helping individuals, families, and friends who struggle with, or know someone living with Bipolar Disorder. Our goal is to provide actual tools, tips, and discuss topics that can potentially help “Polar Warriors” grow to live a more balanced, peaceful, and fulfilling life. We truly hope these videos inspire & educate those interested in knowing more about this serious mental illness. Polar Warrior-What a rich, full life you have! Thank you for producing these videos. There is still such a stigma about mental illness in America. We are not our illnesses, but rather our illnesses are just a small part of who we are. Keep spreading the word that we are so much more than our illness!

@@lindamastropietro3469 You need the right anti depressant along with a mood stabilizer, and make sure you don't have a comorbid condition like ADD. You have to treat both conditions not just the bipolar. Sometimes you have to have the ability to diagnose yourself and research the treatment and have a doctor willing to listen to you.

I can’t wait for my bipolar 26 yr old daughter to get where you are at. She’s finally accepting her diagnosis and taking her meds plus seeing a therapist. I’m the one educating myself to be able to understand it but I can’t wait until she manages it fully herself. She was hospitalized three times the last hospitalization was two weeks ago. She overdosed on her meds which open my eyes and her eyes. I’m a nurse so I’m researching everything there is to know about bipolar since I’m an ICU nurse. Thank you for all you do

I love the amount of positive energy, understanding, and hope I get from you ...Somehow most of my post was lost..I have chronic fatigue, along with fibromyalgia..When you add biopolar into the mix...things get complicated..I have up days where I take advantage. . I have some nerve damage in my arms and hands.. ..I pay for those days when I get things done...I was suffering on about day 2, low mood and pain...Someone asked why this happened...I explained I over did it and they wanted to know what I done ..It was grocery shopping, laundry, driving, and various other things? They looked at me and said...Those things cause you to suffer? It was a cold response and there was no validation....I know my pain is real ...You are brave to come forward with a

Robert, what jumped out is your VOICE: specifically your enunciation and intonation in the context of such intense subject matter and disclosure. I feel this video gives a lot of clues to how you developed such well-honed vocal delivery with so much to say from your own life experience, research, and ongoing discovery. I also viewed the entirely of "HOW IT'S MADE Bipolar Disorder Videos From Polar Warriors!" and realize the writing/scripting and gear investment are all contributing to the overall quality of the "final" result.
How I discovered your channel: I have been doing intuitively guided surveying of RUclips channels that discuss mental health and illness in the most deep and succinct ways so that I can assemble collective wisdom in a free-form collage format that I can add and subtract from as this pool of amazing statements grows and evolves. So imagine what you could do as well with your own video archives, combining your statements and perhaps overlaying further fresh commentary and sounds with your music-making talents.
Please leave a reply to this if you want to follow my experimenting with video channel audio. I was working with a couple of other good channels, but the speakers volume levels and enunciation was all over the place, rendering a lot of it useless, and a pain to navigate for good parts to collage. I was going to struggle on with tedious sifting through flawed audio, but now that you have given us such clear audio, I want to spare myself the agony of working with other channel material when I could be working with your audio instead. I don't plan to hi-jack your effort and repost it, rather my effort is self-therapeutic and self-explorative, and toward optimum-survival and educational value within my apartment building environment.
My intended audience for this work is first of all me for recurring review and musing further into these topics. But there is this other urgency to my endeavors. Namely, I am in a long term apartment living situation with people that avoid learning about the things you talk about, and in my ongoing frustration, I am preparing 5-15-minute collages to broadcast from my apartment door when the "zoo atmosphere" ratchets up, and I want something educational to play over the numbing din. I noticed that so far it is working and the no-sense noise and b.s. will subside for a while after I "broadcast" some of my collages. I am even doing such experiments as overlaying two or more message tracks so words from different tracks serendipitously stand out from the rest, and cause the listener to listen more closely to suss out what the messages are about, kind of like a word or phrase "treasure hunt" instead of being totally linear in a didactic way.
I encourage you to play around with your existing material just to "spell yourself" from the very commendable straightforward teaching regimen you have committed to. We all can use "re-creative pauses". You obviously have a playful side that you may be able to refresh yourself in before you segue right back into your more serious video topic output, especially when you are having some rough spots, and are dreading the hard work and intense focus that is required to keep growing your video archive. Some of your own archive audio collages could be added into future video as intros, outros, or intermissions. Or you could chop-suey bits of each new video soundtrack into audio spice sprinkled into each video, perhaps under a still image or something, in keeping with the video topic. Or maybe as a sectional reprise or review.
You have such great plans for growing your career, yet you should be commended for dropping such highly useful building blocks for careers and creations still not even conceived by fellow RUclipsrs. Your videos merit lots of additional archiving so that your dedication and hard work can be built on by others that come after you-even future you's.
I want to immediately thank you for making my wisdom treasure hunting that much more enjoyable and rewarding. I feel that skillful audio-collaging presented well can be transformative in improving one's own housing or other interpersonal environment, and might be something others in an otherwise intractable living situation might try in order to move the vibrational needle upward where they live. I believe that others (including neighbors) might more easily open up to carefully prepared audio messaging than they would ever accept or absorb face to face. This approach is both direct and oblique, and might help finesse or ease us through situations we might otherwise just shut ourselves off from-or judge as hopelessly toxic and dysfunctional.
    -Thomas

Your a great person Robert and are helping someone like me a lot, I was diagnosed with BP type 2 back in 2009 and it is a horrible illness. I wish there was a cure but since that is not possible right now I wish for people to understand or at least try, it seems like at least many people around me make no effort and think that because I appear physically fit I am perfectly healthy but inside I feel like I am trapped in a nightmare sometimes (like now). Sometimes I listen to the videos on the channel and others while I work as a sort of therapy session as my insurance changed an I can only go to therapy no 2x per month and that is dependent upon availability of my therapist. What I am struggling with is how do you get family and friends to understand that mental illness is as real as a physical illness, many of the people close to me seem to act like this is less serious than the sniffles. Any advice is appreciated

I have a great video that talks about “what does bipolar disorder feel like.” That might be a good one for them to watch, but if they are in denial personally, there’s not a whole lot that can be done. Many people struggle with that same frustration and I will try to work on a video that addresses that in the future :-)

I also have other health issues besides bipolar...Crohns, diabetes, major migraines and recently an amputation of my left leg..as if bipolar isn't enough to deal with!
Everyday is a struggle with any of these conditions, but my biggest issue is depressive anxiety.
Love your research and talks on bipolar and I thank you for it all.

I can relate to your story so much. I went through several career changes myself including a sting in journalism. I was a news reporter and a TV producer for a while. Talk about stressful! I love your channel and am glad you made this video taking a peak into your life. Thank you for all you do.

I really REALLY enjoyed this one. Thank you so much. I would like to see a video about manic rage and anger. Maybe you've planned on talking about this? I'd really love to hear more about this. I don't hear a lot of people talking about the rage in bipolar. I'd really make me happy.
Have a nice rest of the day

I have became addicted to your videos after running across one of your videos. You are both educational but the biggest thing for me is that you can sum up so nicely what I try to explain to people for years what being bipolar is all about. I hope to get my husband to watch them. Also I have bipolar type 1 ultra rapid cycling who has issues with autoimmune type problems along with major discs issues so I can relate so much to your own story.

I’d like to hear those stories for sure! I’m curious to hear how your training helped with moments of being triggered. I know I get rather irrational and angry when triggered. My way of handling it is to walk away and be alone until I calm myself down. Again, looking forward to more stories about you! Take care! :)

Great video. New sub here and enjoying your content. I'm glad that u chose to be open and honest. I've been living with diagnosed BP for over 30 years. People who have mental health issues, brain injuries, and addiction have been the ones who have helped me the most when it comes to strategies and coping skills. So thanks again for sharing your experiences and info. When I first got my diagnosis I was so relieved. Finally, there was an explanation, course of action, and prognosis. Of course it's more fluid than that but, still there is more and more helpful info all the time. I'm still hopeful and expecting a cure.

love you saying you ask 'who am i?' all the time. reminds of the lennon song 'look at me' where he asks that question over & over again (it's off the Imagine album, which has some great songs about introspection.) thx for adding a channel which is mind-probing & involves introspection . . .

I love the thought of you righting a book. I could hopefully be a positive one. So many books are negative. NAMI often has book reviews in their newsletter. I 'm studying finance and hoping to help others with basic financial literacy. I have a lot of respect for you. I still have not grown out of the fear that I my be "blacklisted" due to this illness.

I truly appreciate your honesty about your life. I am new to your channel and currently piecing my own life together after an honest effort to establish my own business ended in failure. I have BP1 and ten years sobriety. I have been through a great deal of hardships with alcohol and isolation and self sabotaging behavior in my life. It has been truly an uphill battle the last few months but I am still willing to give each day a fresh look each morning. Your channel is a welcome addition to my wellness efforts. Many thanks..
