You mentioned the Pogues being an album you played to motivate you to paint. Myself I always played Gary Numan’s Living Ornaments trilogy on CD (‘79, ‘80, and ‘81) while working around the house plus any number of the plethora of DJ mix CD’s I have for motivation.

    Jesus! Did people think there were naked women in this video? It blew up. When you say you find Steve keeping a spreadsheet “interesting “, we all know that’s code for “serial killer traits”. I’m not entirely sure I believe this list. You tend to listen to music the most while in Jr High before you have things to do. You were listening to all this kind of music at 14? Did you wear black turtleneck sweaters to school everyday and roll your eyes at everyone? Just curious. Girls in your class-“Hey Brian, want to come over to my house tonight and listen to some April Wine?” Brian-“Oh puhleeeeze”.

    • @EmbryonicRobot
      @EmbryonicRobot  Год назад

      The views on this video confound me too, partly because I think I have done way better videos. "Serial killer traits" is exactly what I meant. I started seriously listening to music later than junior high - more like grade 10 and 11, but I had records before then. I think everything on this list (aside from Cohen) came out after high school. But, to answer the most important question. I have never owned a black turtleneck sweater. And, I do have April Wine on vinyl! That's another requirement of living in Canada. To be honest, if you asked my school friends (from grade 5 through high school) what I listened to the most, they would all say Led Zeppelin. One year, I even wore a Zeppelin t-shirt of picture day because I forgot it was picture day 🙂

    Hounds of Love and Skylarking are KB and XTC's best, imo. Off the top of my head, albums that would make my list for sure:
    Cocteau Twins • Blue Bell Knoll
    Echo & the Bunnymen • Ocean Rain
    The Chameleons • Strange Times
    The Velvet Underground • self-titled

      I made a longer list, and then narrowed it down. Ocean Rain and The Velvet Underground where both on the list. I love the other ones you mentioned too 👍

    Argh! The early Cure stuff WAS NOT GOTHIC! Post-punk is the correct genre.

    What a bland selection of music. Very one dimensional.

      That may well be! This is not a list of my ten favourite albums; it's simply a list of what I think I have listened to the most, for whatever reason. What am I missing out on?

      Really great list. I have listened to a bit of Tim Buckley, and I keep hearing about him, so I will have to listen to more. In The Wake of Poseiden is a fine album 😀
