Love the thread and your Picks! Always good to hear from those who champion the less obvious. I’ll be listening to the stuff I’m less familiar with. Thanks!
Wow. Fab to see Nina Hagen! I'm inspired to pull out my Nina Hagen, AWB , Ferry,'s BETE NOiRE, Hathaway and Chaka Kham lps to listen to after watching this . That hip hop lp looks amazing. too. Love your taste in music. Great list. Enjoyed so much watching. Thanks.
Style Council wouldn't be in my Top 10 but I used to really have the hots for D. C. Lee! 🤣 Also my favourite reggae album is Dr. Alimantado 'Funkiest Chicken in Town'. One day I'll find a vinyl copy....
Grace Slick could have easily made my top 10. That album is so stinking good. Huge Jones fan. Great eclectic batch of records Everyone had a group of extras.
So happy to see an American mention not only Paul Weller but Style Council! Was Style Council better known in the US than Paul’s subsequent solo career? Ha ha, fake ringware? Didn’t know that! Have you listened to China Crisis at all? Steely Dan’s Walter Becker was credited as both producer and official member on their wonderful Flaunt The Imperfection. It was one of my «10» records… Yeah, I couldn’t contain myself in my video either 😂 Lots of records from my collection but also lots of inspiration. Thank you for your video. -Morten
Hey, Morten!! Style Council not well known in US, but definitely in big cities like New York. I think a lot of people know The Jam more and later Weller. Yes, I definitely know China Crisis!! Thanks!!
i agree with everything you picked (especially the honorable mentions) but didn't know delvon lamarr organ trio until 20 minutes ago and have overlooked nina hagan. great video!
Hey man, salute from Montreal. You just popped up on the thread and enjoyed the vibe, great choices with AWB, Nina, Elvis, TCQ, love the versatility, now subscribed ✌🏼🎶🍻
TSC Confessions is a monster 100% fact. Donny Hathaway Live knocked me out when I first heard it 30 years ago. I own a nice German copy, beautiful soul.
Nice work! I’ve watched a bunch of these vids and picked up at least 2 new albums I would never have found! Thank you for Style Council and Donny Hathaway!
Thank you for this. Everybody doing these top 10 videos is helping folks in the VC I haven’t found yet make their way into my algorithm, such as your channel! Nice choices also!
Hello just found your channel. Amazing selection. I live in Florida as well. Agree with everything you said. At least we have our record collections to get us through the madness.
Used to rock the Low End Theory alot back in the day! It was pretty ground breaking very well done with all the jazz samples. Before digible planets and Guru's jazzmatazz I think.
Interesting picks! Esp with the Nina Hagen. I love her New York New York track I do play that alot. Every month probably. Great Grace Jones album too - Nightclubbing. Also love Peg track on that Steely Dan ever since I heard the De La soul sample. Cheers man!
Love this mix of music. Matt Cameron, who was the drummer for Soundgarden and is still the drummer for Pearl Jam, said in an interview with Rick Beato that he learned to play drums by listening to Steely Dan's Aja.
Your video reminds me that I should go deeper in playing certain artists; instead of Imperial Bedroom, need to get my Get Happy out, and leave Rastaman Vibration on the shelf every once in awhile and put on Exodus. I just bought Bete Noir on vinyl this week, and 'ethereal' is a perfect word to describe it. Also thoroughly enjoying the 2 Delvon Lamarr Organ Trio albums Cold as Weiss, and I Told You So. Just subscribed and look forward to seeing more of your channel videos.
Great video, DJVV! I have the single of Nina Hagen's New York New York, and the Donny Hathaway Live...Wow! Back in the day, I was all over the radio dial exploring, and my collection shows it, too, just like how I assume you must have. Needless to say, I SUBSCRIBED! You're channel is too cool not to subscribe to😎👍!
Some really solid choices there dude. Always great to see Elvis Costello and The Style Council featuring - and that Grace Jones LP sounds incredible! New subscriber here take care cheers
E Costello getting some love. Get Happy is one of the most underrated records just a gem. Saw Bete Noir tour at the Beacon or maybe Radio City. Went to many a Ritz show back in the day. Great choices
Donny Hathaway’s “Jealous Guy” is the definitive version in my opinion. That whole record is stellar ❤ DLO3’s groove is amazing, I love Jimmy James’s guitar work, they do an amazing Curtis Mayfield “Move on Up” cover. It’s on a live record, get that if you don’t have it, it looks similar to Lee Morgan’s album “The Sidewinder”
All my Bjork is on CD. My go to Bob Marley is Rastaman Vibration. I need to check out Low End Theory. I’ve never seen that Nina Hagen German version. Her band was great live. That was a good ten with lots of extras.
@@djvinylvertigo I saw the Sugarcubes at the Whiskey A Go-Go. I didn’t know who they were. If I remember right they sang everything in Icelandic. I do remember thinking I wish that guy would shut up and let the gal sing.
My list, no order, an album per artist. Pink Floyd - Dark side of the moon Dire Straits 1st album Television - Marquee Mon The Smiths - The Queen is Dead Waterboys - The whole of the moon Supertramp - Crisis? What Crisis? Don MacLean - American Pie Neutral Milk Hotel - In a aeroplane over the sea Steely Dan - Can't buy a thrill Jethro Tull- Songs from the wood The Chameleons - Strange Times Sufjan Stevens - Illinois Gang of Four - Entertainment! Peter Murphy - Deep Keith Jarrett - Koln Concert
Soul Searching, you are correct, not enough love for that album..❤️ Love Chaka Khan but that’s my least fave from her, I would have chosen the double live album. Tribe, one of my all time faves too..❤️ Grace Jones..❤️ Hathaway Live..❤️. I’m new to your channel, NY & NJ native and retired bass player. I hope you post lots of Soul R&B and Funk albums. Not enough of love on the VC for these genres. The Funk Rules✊🏻
My go to punk are The Clash, Nina Hagen, X Ray Specs, Ramones, Black Flag, Bad Brains, Buzzcocks, The Jam, Gang of Four, but not my in 10. More into New Wave if in my 10.
@@djvinylvertigo OK. So you do like punk. IMO Nina Hagen is not punk, only the Jam's first two albums are punky and Gang of Four is post punk.(But everyone has a different idea of what punk is) In my article on the top 15 punk albums, I have one by the Ramones, the Clash and Bad Brains. If I had a top 25 Black Flag, the Buzzcocks and X-Ray Spex would be in it. Thanks for answering!
Hi, Interesting video, thank you. Lots of beautiful things for me to discover. I got to listen to this D. Lamar record. Greetings from Paris.

Nightclubbing was way ahead of it's time.

Evidently he never caught Nena rocking those leather pants in the "99 Luftballoons" video.
LOL
I just found Nina Hagen's raw sexuality more attractive!!🤣🤣
Chaka! Tell me something good!
