thanks for this...I didn't listen to 'The Queen is Dead' at the time, in fact I avoided it...I arrived to The Smiths on the release of This Charming Man, I saw them live first in 1984 and was a true believer...but when Meat is Murder came out I was a little disappointed, and when I saw them on that tour, they hype and hysteria was enough to make me move away from The Smiths...and I have only recently moved back, in my dotage, to appreciate the later works...possibly Cemetery Gates is my favourite of all Morrissey songs...
Glad you decided to return to The Smiths. Meat is Murder actually cemented my love for them. I wish I had been able to see them live. Thank you for watching.
@fidelios_frequency You're right. I think the 80's had better pop rock, pop metal, pop R&B, pop Reggae & so on. 90's pop music was more watered down & basic. I might have some vinyl recommendations if you're interested? I don't disappoint. 👍
@fidelios_frequency You started with the 60's to the 2000's so I will do the same. I often like to recommend groups and albums that people are not aware of or have forgotten. 60's Self-titled album Gary Lewis and the Playboys album (The legendary masters series)The Crykle album (Red Rubber Ball) 70's Isaac Hayes album (Live at the Sahara Tahoe) Stevie Wonder concept album (Journey Threw The secret life of plants) Alan Parsons Project album (Pyrimid) 80's going just a tade deeper than the Metalica type stuff Sodom album (Percicution Mania) Rollins Band album (Hard Volume) Sade album (Stronger than Pride) Men at Work album (Cargo) 90's Red House Painters album (Rollercoaster) or (Ocean Beach) Jamiroquai album (Emergency on Planet Earth). Michelle Indigo Chello album (Plantation Lullabies) Stevie Wonder album (Natural Wonder). Late 90's going into the early 2000's Billy Bang album (Big Bang Theory) My last two are based off the times we're living in musically being that Hip Hop is basically where rock was in the 90's before it commercially took a plunge. Self-titled album (Deltron3030) & Aceyalone album (A Book of Human Language) are probably the last vinyl Hip Hop albums you can get that are essential for understanding Hip Hop at it's peak in the late 90's and early 2000's. In fact Deltron3030 is a concept album about what would happen to the music industry from that point on. Don't listen to these two albums without headphones being there's special effects included. Also I recommend Googling them to find out what they're about so you won't get lost when listening. I'm sure some of these will become apart of your collection & will be interested to see what you think of them in the future if you do a review??? There's only probably a couple you may know on the list but the ones you don't know will be a left turn & a eyebrow raiser for you. Thanks for replying. 👍
Great group of records. I’d argue AFTP is REM’s best album. Out of Time, while great, (to me) gave them the mainstream energy and attention that pushed their creativity on Automatic.
For sure OOT made them the biggest band in world at the time. For me there is a more personal reason why AFTP is my favorite. They’re both 5 ⭐️ albums IMO.
Awesome picks and great delivery! Whats going on is one of my most played too - the RTI reissue is amazing. Im hunting for a solid Queen is Dead since subscribing...one suggestion in my heavy rotation is always Joe Jackson Night & Day (music and mastering next level).
@@fidelios_frequency Yes, it's like being in the studio. As a child I always thought if I lived in NY, this is the album I would play every Friday night lol
'Doolittle' was my first Pixies album and also have that reissue. For some reason 'No. 13 Baby' is a top track for me. While I was a fan and actually saw them in concert back in the day, I have not picked up an R.E.M. album in awhile - thanks for the reminder that 'Automatic for the People' is a great album. I did this thread as well, and 'Avalon' is part of my most listened to and revered album.
Great picks my friend LOVE seeing that Roxy. Totally my fave!!! It's kind of weird. I have no idea why I thought your picks would be all obscure stuff lol. You had tons of classics in here!
I can be as mainstream as you can get when it comes to heavy rotation. 😂 Many albums I love are lesser known but also best savored in special moods. 😉 Blue Nile is probably the least known of the picks. Thank you for watching my friend.
Can’t believe it took me so long to sub you, apologies my friend. Different music than my regular rotation but I have started diving into these selections.
Some good picks my man, I also did a top 10 a while back. I noticed you just done a New York video. I also did one but yours was way more informative than mine 😅
You had me at Revolver. Btw Up by REM is my drive to Ptown album. I love automatic for the people though. Ignoreland is great. One time i saw them with my sister and we threw balloons on stage and Michael Stipe tied them to the drumset. Lol it was a whole thing.
great selection, i recently (re)discovered the Avalon record, an i agree this is a very good album from start to finish. The Smiths is another exemple of music that really stood the test of time as it doesn't sound too ''eighthies'', a cousin of mine always made fun of me because i was into 70s or 80s music and i realized that he liked The Smiths, so i guess that's the sort of bands everyone agrees on
Love the list! My current Top Ten: Kraftwerk 'Autobahn' Portishead 'Portishead' My Bloody Valentine 'MBV' Nino Rota 'Soundtrack to Fellini Satyricon' Alizee Jacotey 'Un enfant du siecle' Air 'Moon Safari' The Smiths 'Louder Than Bombs' The Beatles 'White LP' Ornette Coleman 'Shape of Jazz to Come' Brian Eno 'Another Green World' Honorable Mention - David Bowie 'Low', Gorillaz 'Demon Days', Tuxedomoon 'Devine'.
My list: My list, no order, an album per artist. Pink Floyd - Dark side of the moon Dire Straits 1st album Television - Marquee Mon The Smiths - The Queen is Dead Waterboys - The whole of the moon Supertramp - Crisis? What Crisis? Don MacLean - American Pie Neutral Milk Hotel - In a aeroplane over the sea Steely Dan - Can't buy a thrill Jethro Tull- Songs from the wood The Chameleons - Strange Times Sufjan Stevens - Illinois Gang of Four - Entertainment! Peter Murphy - Deep Keith Jarrett - Koln Concert
Good choices..,..but No one mentions Joy Division or early New Order, nick cave, the can, duruttis coloumn, gwar,Pantera, Cocteau twins anymore. But taste or preferences are debatable. Cheers for another good video
Some really great choices there and nice to see (The London!) Suede getting some love on the other side of the pond they’ve long been one of my favourite bands. I think their debut is my personal favourite, but Dog Man Star is also a superb album. Have you got the latest album ‘Autofiction’? It’s an excellent album I’ve been spinning it a lot recently. New subscriber here cheers!
“Hats” might be an un-rediscovered gem (i have no idea, maybe it’s well known by now). The production on that record is incredible. Also the best use of the technology of that era, which might sound dated now but completely transcends the “80’s sound” that might put people off initially. The way Downtown Lights builds and builds is almost unbearable. Unique album at the time and today.
You won’t be surprised that I’m a big fan of the blue Nile . I’ve overplayed that REM album .. find a river is my favourite. Dummy was a big one for me in the 90s you’ve done your video different this is like your desert island discs .. I want to know what you play now regularly . Radiohead and Lana I like when I’m in the mood ..👍. Ha you say you need to be in the mood for most Lana albums😀I didn’t do a bonus ..
Some of my all time favorite records are in the video but quite a few are not. There some records I can’t play often because the listening requires almost an emotional drain. And there are times I’m not ready for that. I usually play new releases daily but the oldies I go back to are the ones in the video. I’ll be making another new release video shortly.
@@fidelios_frequency Ahh, gotcha. I'm just starting to understand some of the ins & outs of vinyl pressing, & it's kinda' fascinating. A couple of my discs were actually injection-molded instead of being pressed; one of 'em is a Jean Michel Jarre synth album, it sounds *superb* & now I wonder why that didn't become more common.
Revolver - Check. Definitely on the most listened to Beatles records for me. This one and Rubber Soul. What's Going On - I haven't given this record enough attention. I mostly listen to Let's get it on. Avalon - Haven't listened to it at all. Roxy Music largely flew under my radar. Smiths - Same. Never listened them. I'm an 80s guy as well. I can't stand The Pixies. Hated both this record and Surfer Rosa. Just hated them. Hats - Never heard of the record or the band. I'll check them out. I loathe REM. 90s music was better for me in general but I admit the 80s gems are real gems, Avalon and the queen is dead are epic. There was a LOT of junk in the 80s too though
@@fidelios_frequency Really? I’m actually a fan of lots of McCartney songs. I’ve said that Dizzy Miss Lizzy ruined Help. It would have been much better to end the album with the two great McCartney songs I’ve Just Seen A Face and Yesterday. On Revolver I think Eleanor Rigby, Good Day Sunshine, and Got To Get You Into My Life are all great.
Really great picks, love The Smiths, Portishead, Radiohead and Lana Del Rey. Cool video. Cheers!
I love watching these different takes on top ten albums since the vibe began.

Why is the UK 'Doolittle' pressing important? Were those copies better somehow, or is it just the first-first pressing, or what?
