I love Oscar Brown. Would love to hear your thoughts on Andy Bey and Jon Lucien. Big fan of Andy’s work with Horace Silver. Have a great trip!
Been jamming out to Aaron Frazer new album. Different then his first solo album, but still very good. And I'm excited for my 1994 Selena-Amor Prohibido record to come in this weekend. It was her last spanish album before her English album I believe. And her 2nd to last before she was taken from us. And it's the first time it's been pressed on vinyl in the states too.
@@booieaguilar4792 I have just received Aaron Frazer's latest in the mail!!
@@djvinylvertigo hope you like it. He has a couple very soulful tracks on there but he went a lil more R&B this album. Great listen all in all
Nice to see that kinks comp, great stuff Scotty!
That record is great. Enjoy!!
Im just learning about jazz and am trying to find as many vocalists as i can. I really like Billie Holiday, Abbey Lincoln, Dean Martin, Sarah Vaughan and lots of friends have recommended Chet Baker too. But im keen to learn more and more
Woohoo finally someone talking about jazz vocalists!!
i really enjoyed the "fresh" album which i'd never even seen before. i have to give steve allen (who made elvis look like a fool on national TV) credit for producing oscar's early 60's records but he was going to crossover to some extent anyway. i did see him acting in something or other but will have to track down more of his acting roles. thanks again.
oscar is funny and wise and much more entertaining than a lot of the jazz vocalists people believe they don't like. "but i was cool" is one of my favorites, the story of my life. i love the "we insist: freedom now suite" and found it long ago just because i knew abbey and max. i wasn't aware of oscar in the 80's. i can't wait to see pt. 2.
Love the spins ❤
there's a british singer named beth orton who i enjoyed around 25 years ago and she was huge fan of terry callier and sang duets with him and i found out about him through her. you may like her stuff. they did a duet of fred neil's "the dolphins".
I know a little about her songwriting. Thanks!!!!!

i thought you'd stay watching chaka khan's "tiny desk" concert over and over for the last week and a half when you're home (pollen be damned)...it's good to see you on "rachel's ghost" because you're never tearing into anybody!
I can't stand the arguments. People have to realize that Rob's function on the show is to have funny discourse that looks like fighting. They take it way too seriously. Then he gets angry. I love that Chaka performance!! Thanks!!
@@djvinylvertigo i tried to send you links to terry callier music and live performances and did it repeatedly only to find out that you tube doesn't approve of my...linking, sending their videos. i listened to wonderful record in it's entirety by TC i hadn't heard this morning so educating myself on him is in order. you have no idea why stevie wonder can't for the love of god release one record of new material? stevie's function is to do whatever he wants. rob's occasionally should be to self-muzzle!
Washington Square Park! We all have our moments 😉
Yes!!! Thank you!!!!
We will look for you in the parade today. Nice spins, Mazzy has cost me some money also :-)
Fantastic!!
Great to spot yiu in the crowd yesterday!! Happy Pride!!
@@djvinylvertigo I was surprised you spotted me, happy pride to you as well!
i have that crusaders album, scratch, love that band!
Oh Man ! Talk Talk.. I'm on the look out for more titles by this incredible band ! I have a bunch of Luther, and Psychedelic Shack .. I never see it out there ! Very cool. Last Tempts I picked up were "Cloud Nine" and "Masterpiece" the Norman Whitfield produced and penned album.. Have a great day 😉
Masterpiece is an amazing record!! I want to find that one!!!
Funny you mention it, ( Masterpiece ) I just found one ! If I had a 2nd copy.. I'd send it to you..
@@jtsrecordroom3963 My email is nubuzz54@gmail.com. Please send me an email and I will reply with my address. Thanks, buddy!!
Good morning ! Out west, anyway.. I don't have a 2nd copy of Masterpiece, but when I do, I'll let you know, unless you find one before me. 🎵
That Temptations album looks great! I got the One Hand Clapping record and the associated EP a few days ago, too. I have been playing through a bunch of other recent finds, so I haven't listened to it yet, but I plan to listen to it this weekend. Love the haircut!
Nice pickups, Scott. That One Hand Clapping cover freaks me out. 😅😂
love carmen mcrae, she was a great singer!!
Nice haul, Scott. Enjoy the tunes. Cheers, Jeff
Scott I got it 2 days ago. I don't really like the cover or the labels to plain
Weird packaging.
Scott your hair looks the same as it did earlier today lol
LOL! The greys are gone until the next buzz!! 🤣🤣
I love psychedelic shack and also I like ball of confusion. One hand clapping is in the mail on its way to me
Great video! Need to meet face to face!
Absolutely!! Thanks!!
Mixing politics with music really does no favors to either. Usually, it just doesn't work. Good music should be timeless, as in "Into the Mystic." Political content is time-sensitive and is usually outdated as soon as the music gets to the public. There are rare exceptions but that's the rule. I agree with some other commenters here that a few hard-hitting songs directed at the mandates and lockdowns would have been sufficient. But Van needed to get some things off his chest and that's what was happening at the time and he had good reason to be angry and sarcastic. I mean, these mandates were, and still are, killing people. Still, it's probably a better tack to focus on something positive in a bad situation. I'm reminded of Peter Gabriels's song "Biko."
are you going to do betty carter? i actually never had heard her tour duets with carmen. i need to listen to what you have to say here but hope you do betty.
Herbie Mann. Herbie Hancock. It’s all the same to me 😀
Carmen Mcrae is great, really solid and distinct voice. I never thought about her being so heavily influenced by Holiday, but I'll be listening for that. You don't see her records in the bins a lot in Denmark, so I only have Carmens Gold, but it gets spun a fair bit and now i can add a few more to my want list. Hope to see a lot more Vocal Jazz Series videos!
I love how you started the video, “I think i like Herbie Hancock a little bit.”
Glad you caught that! 🤣
Is herbie Hancock really herbie Mann? I've never seen them together.
LOL!!!!!
One more for you to check out, Impressions of the Middle East, cool album, you will dig it. 👌
Carmen McRae is wonderful. Great she is getting some well-deserved attention in the VC.
Chicago LOVES Dj Rogers- " say you love me. " I own it on cd
pops had that album new. "just for you" was a bangin slow cutt in Cleveland Ohio
That Badu album is an album-length reaction to Drake’s Hotline Bling. Thanks for reminding me that she put that out. So much fun.
Mine goes between Innervisions and Songs in the Key of Life. Excellent catalog, I have almost all the seventies releases and a few from the sixties.
Desperately Seeking Susan
Scott, Ms Mahalia is my favorite gospel singer. I have 96 percent of her material.
Good collection. Some good artists to look into there
I love when records arrive that I've forgotten I ordered. That Orgone record looks particularly interesting!
Scott, I'm a long time fan of Chuck Prophet, love your shirt! Patty Duke show was great, wild that she played herself and her English cousin. I'll pick up a mint album in open shrink wrap every time for $1.00
Hey, Harry!! I interviewed Chuck and his wife last year!! They were very cool!! Love me some Patty Duke!!
This is great Scott! I loved seeing your dog, Gracey. I ❤ Sqeeze and saw them last year. They are really loud. When you mentioned Patty Duke son, Sean Austin, it made me think about his character Doug in Adam Sandler Fifty First Dates. 😊 I would buy the one album just for the horse on the cover. You are lucky to have dollar bins. Where I live, $20 bins.💰
Yeah, that Trini Lopez album looked cool with the horse!!
Wow. You got that video up fast. 🤣 Love that Orgone album. ✌🏻
I like your t-shirt. I love Chimira. I quite enjoy Anouar Brahem. "The Astounding Eyes of Rita" is amazing! You know it's a mortal sin to showcase cd's, right? I promise not to tell Mazzy.
LOL!! Mazzy is no boss of me!! 🤣🤣
I agree Innervisions is my number 1.
Van the Man does his own thing. He may not care what his fans from early in his career think. I saw him 25 years ago and he basically performed stuff no one in the audience were into...no hits at all. Keep rockN
Clarification: The illustration is a reference to actors Kevin McCarthy and Dana WYNTER in Invasion of the Body Snatchers. (I said Dana Andrews! 😮)
Thank you!!
I was debating on this. I loved Craneswife by them but after that I moved on I was curious about your reaction to it.
It's the worst album of my favorite artist. It's also, unfortunately, his most recent collection of originals, and he's about to turn 79. Great review
Nice Records my friend! Cheers😎
Good to hear your review. Glad you hear you liked it and I’m looking forward to spinning my copy when it comes in - thanks Scott!
Cool review.
Thanks!!
