Requested video to fix computer not showing on local network.
I'm glad you responded to our request. We really needed to hear from you. Thank you for doing researches to help your viewers. Good on you sir.
I recently found out that Samba is off by default in Windows 10. It seems Microsoft changed that since I previously installed Windows. It could be the upgraded machines kept it switched on but the fresh install was off by default.
Thanks, Bri, you do a great service by everything you show us.
It took me ages to get find a video that actually helped me.. Thanks so much! Now it's asking for references...The search continues :)
I did everything on the video but my laptop on Wi-Fi is still not able to see my other PCs on Ethernet and vice-versa. They're even on the same workgroup.
I did that all but still other pc local network device not showing
I've looked at multiple websites and videos claiming to be able to do what you've done (make computers that used to see each other do so again (one got a new hard-drive which I guess is where things got messed up)). But unlike so many others your video absolutely nailed it, in 10mins. You clearly know your stuff, thanks!!
Ticking all the SMB boxes in "Turn Windows Functions On and Off" worked for me thanks Brian. Have been scratching my head for ages over this one. Legend mate.
Thank you! This resolved my issue where one computer could see another on my network but not vice versa. Much appreciated!
Awesome succinct instructions. It took care of my connectivity problem in no time. I much appreciated your help.
I had to disable AP isolation on router configuration for it to work. hope it helps others. Thanks.
Excellent sir Brian. Your wonderful tutorials are on par with the content of books. So, I'd rather watch your channel than search from books. This is one of those crucial tutorials I needed, especially because I'm responsible for managing files and printer sharing and sometimes I get stuck solving issues. Now, I'll be a master at work. Thanks, bud!
You're welcome mate, I try and make it as easy as possible
You are a life saver. Ever since the latest windows update I have not been able to access the desktop server on the network. Thank you very much for your detailed tutorial!!!
Thank you. Your video helped me. It’s more thorough and up to date then a couple other videos I watched.
An outstanding commentary and walk through of a daunting problem all too common to home computer users. Thank you for explaining this process and posting your video for everyone to learn from your knowledge.
Why should setting up a home network be daunting?
A lot of people have more than cone cppmuter in their house
And they want to share files and printers
"Turn Windows features on or off --> SMB 1.0/CIFS File Sharing Support - TICKED" did it for me. No computers were showing on "network computer and devices", only media devices, network infrastructure and other devices. I don't understand why this is turned off. Who doesn't want to see computers in "network computer and devices"? Thanks so much, this was a very informative video.
THANK YOU very much! Your list of services was invaluable, and lacking in all other guides. I've set up countless networks yet struggled with a friend's new Win10 install and couldn't figure out what I was missing. Thank you again!
Thank you for this video. A recent Win10 update must have changed the network setting to "Public" on both of our Windows10 computers and we could no longer see each other. Fixed now thanks to this video!
Excellent video. Fixed my problems where other videos did not. Thanks!
This has helped more than once. Your videos are so helpful and well done. Thank you.
Thank you so much for your help today. This has been a Godsend!
This was very helpful. Love these network problem solvers. Thanks Brian.
Thanks Harry
Thank you!!!! Oh man I was losing it. I thought I needed one of those old network cables back from 90's to make computers see each other again. Services solved problem for me.
I can't thank you enough for this video. It worked and fixed the problem. You Rock.
This information is fantastic. I've been having those (not showing on local network) issues for a while. Connection: a Win10 client to Server 2003. I did everything you said, re-booted and "BOOM" there they are.
Thank you so much Britec09 , or is it OB1? Cheers
Great video Brian! I tried out to check my config (in French) and FYI it wasn’t that simple to identify the French name of services that have to be tuned. What would be really great is that you would provide either the file.msc you’re dealing with or why not explain how to check all this with the command line. What do you think? Kind regards.
The SMB file sharing support check did mine up right nice. Thanks!
Britec is the 2pac of computers wow this man is interesting I being following you for years and you is a genius forget the computers I want to be your friend I love smart ppl 🔥🔥👏👏👏
cheers
*But 2pac is dead.*
Referred to this excellent video many times trying to get two computers to see each other on a home network. Made all the changes described without success. Subsequently discovered related articles mentioning network resets. Performed one on each computer and now they see each other as planned. In addition, doing so didn't change any of the settings detailed in this video. Only glitch seems to be that every so often, one of the computers will disappear and a network reset is again required. And no, no windows update has occurred to cause this. My only complaint with network reset is that it takes over 5 minutes to complete but otherwise seems harmless as it relates to impacting anything else negatively.
This is by far the best video I've seen on the subject! Why? cuz it was the only one that worked... Thank you...
Best video ever!, Finally I can see my laptop, I expended the entire afternoon looking for this information!. You are the best!, Subscribed and Alarm Bell for sure!
ADDITIONAL TIP for VPN users. Make certain that the "Invisibility on LAN" setting is turned off for both computers. On a private network the only computers that will able to see others are those already on the network. Should you want to isolate a machine temporarily, you can turn the "Invisibility on LAN" setting on without making any other changes to the computer you want to isolate and off to return the computer to visibility.
Great Video Bri. Very useful video. Keep up the good work!
Cheers Tea Boy
@@Britec09- The Heart mark is enough, Brian. Saves us looking for nothing in replies of yours - but maybe the Heart arose less than 4 years ago...
thank you Brian...another great video...i have to do the two function service fixes every time windows10 does a feature update
Windows 10 for you
Well explained as always !
Thanks
You're the man. Another Microsoft expert (and employee) failed to add to make the ethernet network private from the ethernet icon in his video
Hi Brian great stuff, it might be useful for me one day, so both of them the two computers have Wi-Fi enabled on or one can be off Wi-Fi and one can be on Wi-Fi? Sorry for you silly question because it's my first time to experiment this.
Thanks Brian as always keep up the good work you doing for your RUclips fans.
Thanks thumbs up for you👍👍👍😊
cheers for the thumbs up
Great video. Finally solved my issue after a long time of troubleshooting. Keep up the good work.
Saving this video for when I'm finally forced to move from Win7 to Win10
Cheers Britec09 for the info ;-)
Glad I could help out
Indeed; Windows 10 finally forced me to linux.
Thank you so much for your great support
Saved my day! Can't thank enough :)
well done keep up the great work brian ty
Will do
THANK YOU - VERY STRANGE my computers didn't see each other today - your first fix solved the issue but I wonder if a Windows update could have changed the setting because they WERE seeing each other a few days ago????
Nice post, Thanks Brian.
Thanks Kev
This is the only one video that helped me to play minecraft on lan server, you are the legend. I wish you had a tons of subs.
Great thing o add to my toolbox.. thank you for making this tech tip
Looks like it was my firewalls that were preventing me access. Turned em off and it worked. Thanks for the video! Although I'm kicking myself for not realizing the obvious.
Great video - thanks mate!
Thank youuu....turning windows features on (SMB) did the job
Isn’t smb1 flawed without security holes?
Very good informative information. Way too tedious to look up. Thanks.
Thanks - Great video ! It did help me resolve this issue. Thanks again !
I have this problem from time to time and the only way I can get it all to work again is to reset the network on any machine that cannot be seen. Agree that all the points in this video also need to be checked but the final step if all else fails is reset network. I do not know why but it does seem to work. Reset network is easily found on the bottom of the Network and Internet Status settings form.
Thank you!
You’re awesome
Thank you, and I am now subscribed!
Thanks you are a trustworthy individual
Nice work. Thanks for that.
You're welcome

Excellent. Step by step, it feels like an expert has the mouse solving my problem. Thank you sir.
Thank man.. My sharing worked for awhile but then just stopped.. I dont recall making any changes.. But going to into services did the trick.!
You have the "Public Folder Sharing" ON at minute 2:26 and OFF at minute 10:32. It should be OFF, correct? I guess this depends on if you have Public files to share. Thanks for the great video.
Awesome Videos 👍👌🏻 thx for sharing.
You're welcome
Thank you so much. It helped me a lot.
Thank you so much for this!
Thank you so much!!! been trying to figure out for 24hrs
It worked perfectly well for me. Thank you
Love your vids. This one saved me from having to call an IT person.
Helpful and my problem solved!
Sir,
I am using Windows 10 V 1903.

Funnction Resource Sources = running

SMB also on.
But in the Network My PC is not showing.
Please help. Thank you
Thanks for sharing, I have been having problems with my printer beaning used on my to laptops and hope this helps. Have a nice day
it should do Shane
@@Britec09 I did this on my Windows 10 Laptop and I see that this Laptop does not have SMD Direct on it. Do I need it and if so how do I add it to this PC please. Thank you very much for your help.
Whoa. Really fixed my problem. Thank you.
A thumbs up at the top will do; saves us reading your comment, and all the hundreds of others.
great vid, it's the services, as soon as I put function discovery resource publication automatic and hit apply my computers showed up, cheers
Thank you very much!
You're welcome
I've done all these settings and they do work...but only for a day or two.. I have to keep going back and stop/start them in order for it to work again. Not only on my PC, but on all PC's.
I wish there was a permanent fix for this.
It worked. Thank you so much!
A thumbs up at the top will do; saves us reading your comment, and all the hundreds of others.
I've been banging my head into a wall for 3 hours! You fixed my problem in 1 minute 45 seconds
Same here. I've read and watch all kinds of guides on setting this up. This is the first one I saw that mentioned setting the connection to a private network. Fixed my problem.
Hello indeed have an issue not seeing my workstation on my laptop. Media players can be seen. Also have a NAS storage on my internet router and it doesn't update the contents since a little while. So to a certain level it works over the network, but seeing shered documents are not. What coul have happened? I Checked all the hints you show in the excellent video, but nothing changed. What elese can I do now?
Thanks for the video. I have taken aqll these steps on my tower and on my laptop. I can see the "other" computer but it is always listed as a Media Device. I have done "Give access to" but I cn see no files listed. Any ideas?
Hello from a fellow Brian. I have followed all your recommendations in the video and still cannot see my other network computers ot NAS. The problem I have is that it is a work laptop, only has WiFi and I think it is a Domain issue. Is there a way around this as all my home items are set to the HOME Network and this may be different as it connects to a work server.
Thx man, couldnt see one out of my two machines, now I can see them all. Machines running on win 11 btw and it worked
Thank you for this great troubleshooter. I should have known it was the SMB1.0/CIFS File Sharing Support Feature. haha
Thank you worked perfectly.. It was driving me nuts.
Brian... Hope this is not redundant, but I thought I posted and its not showing up on a page refresh. Have 2 Macs & 1 W10 PC, is there a way to limit the W10 PC to only my home network? I don't want to allow outside access either from the internet or from guests using my home wifi. I only want access thru the Macs and with a password. Hope this is understandable.
Thank you! You are STAR!!!
Thank you. There should be a simpler way to do all this - a wizard or a one-button push to make it happen.
Yes, you would think that after 20 years of Windows Networking, they would have been able to make this easy and automatic for everyone.
We should not have to dive into all of these Service settings, many people hava home network, and do not have an IT guy like like at a big company.
thanks so much for your great video
Is it better to create a network folder on every computer in the network or
Just one folder in 1pc and giving read and write access to every one.
very well done love the video
Glad you enjoyed it
A thumbs up at the top will do; saves us reading your comment, and all the hundreds of others.
Zonealarm!!! very oldschool did not know it was still out. anyway great video.
Love my Zone alarm
This is a great help. What else needs to be done to access a seperate drive on one computer from another if it is shared? I always get the cannot access \other win10 computer\h drive. I can see the h drive from the computer, but no access. I have sharing on
"separate"
Note that your don't just access 'drives', you access 'objects' known as 'Shares' - a noun, like shares in a company. You have to make shares and make them available on machines that you want to access (give them suitable permissions too). Then from another computer you go looking for those shares.
Hi. Would you do a video about hibernate Show in the start menu in windows 10? Thanks.
see what I can do.
Hibernate is actually hidden in Windows 10. You have to go to the "Power Options" section in the "Control Panel" to make it show up. Once there, click on "Choose what the power buttons do." Then once there, you'll see the "Hibernate" option check box under "Shutdown Settings." It most likely will be grayed out. To get to this option Click on "Change settings that are currently unavailable." This should enable those options. Now you can click the "Hibernate" feature and activate it. It will now show up in the start menu where you can shut down your computer.
Brian, I am having problems seeing other computer (my file server) that I just upgraded to Win 10. I will try your fixes but wanted to ask.. Why does each computer on my network show a different network name for example computer A says the network name is "network 4" while computer B says its connected to network 5" Is this something i should fix? Is that the work group name?
Thank you sir, you solved my problem
YOUR THE BEST!!! YOU SAVED ME HOURS LOL
Thanks Bro!!! its work!! Thanks to this video!
Thank You So Much..It's Working
To be more specific from my last comment, when work sends you home with a laptop & expects you to use your home network to log in for work, how can I monitor what works IT DEPT are doing on my personal home network?? Are they accessing my children's devices and monitoring them? Are they searching through all the other computers on my network and copying the files? Are they turning cameras and audio recording on?? Etc etc
It Worked for me. Thanks.
Thank you so much!
One more thing to check is the sharing and file system permissions (for shared folders).
That would be something a little different, but yeah, when sharing folders, ,make sure that is set.
@@Britec09- not so much 'set', Brian, but Allowed for particular users. Not for the kids, grandkids, visitors, or wife (while you're researching birthday presents).
Thanks For This.
glad I could help
Followed this to the "T" and although my pc can see other systems the other systems cannot see my pc and I made sure the others systems followed this video to the "T" as well - triple checked settings. The both have the osbuild 1904.329 . The one system that is not showing after the chaanges is running windows home the others one is running windows pro. Any other suggestions?
Good video 👍
Thanks
Thank you loads
Super Video Thanks!
I am struggling trying to connect 3 Windows PCs together.
If I do it right should I end up with being able to see the Blue Boxs of the computers names and the name of each Computer under File Manager / Networks on the left hand pane?
Eg Netwroks
Machine1
Machine2
Machine3
