  • There is a BIG difference between a working internet connection and an optimized fast internet connection that is geared for speed!
    Today I am going to show you a simple setting that anyone can do that took me from 150Mbps to 450Mbs.
    Here are the commands you will need:
    To calculate the MTU size:
    ping thetechieguy.com -f -l 1492
    To see the MTU size on your computer:
    netsh interface ipv4 show subinterfaces
    To set the MTU size:
    netsh int ipv4 set subinterface “Ethernet” mtu=1500 store=persistent
    Note:
    If you are using WiFi, instead of Ethernet, use whatever the interface say eg "Wi-Fi"
    To reset it in case it didn't work or you want to start again just set it back to 1500

    For those that don't know, there is a header of 28 (two separate of 20 and 8) that needs to be added when taking your number into account. That's why he is fine when he hits 1472 as a test. Please look it up so you have an understanding.

    • @Pyroteq
      @Pyroteq 9 месяцев назад +3

      I believe that header depends on what internet technology you're using and how you authenticate with your ISP. Eg, PPPoE would use a different header size than PPPoA. Sometimes you can use both and gain performance by switching from PPPoE to PPPoA on your router/modem settings.

A little expo isnt bad as long the entire video isn't a lesson in expo. I feel like Liron does a great job of that. Talks to us like people but with the understanding most may not get it and requires a little simple talk during the process, but I get it. Some want just the steps and no banter. This channel, it really works. At least that is my opinion of it.

    I have an advice for you guys. If you are using a Network Bonding / Load Balancing Set-Up with 2 or more ISPs / WANs do try to find the best MTU while they are all in use. For instance, I have 3 WANs, all connected and bonding packages. So I did found out that 1498 (inkl. the +28) bytes where the optimal average size. So I did change every WAN-Port to 1498, after that I did change the Windows Settings to "automatic MTU" instead of entering a value. What happend was a constant Download and Upload, like I would only use 1 WAN / ISP.

    Thanks for this handy tip although it didn't help improve my speeds. My Huawei B535-333 4G router was already set at the MTU size of 1500 when checking out the settings. Yes I did the test and that is the size for my router.
    Even though this tip didn't work for me, I'm actually glad to learn that my router was already set to 'max' straight of the box :)

      *subtle
      (Sorry, my OCD wouldn't allow me to go on with the rest of MY life knowing that I let you continue on with the rest of yours, knowing that you'd likely be continuing to correctly use a small word which describes such an important social concept without knowing how to correctly spell the word... Although my comment might be misconstrued as one that was meant to be condescending or antagonistic, rest assured that this is merely a text-related phenomena arising from one of the most glaring inherent shortcomings of communicating without the benefit of vocal inflection.
      The point of my comment is that when others see a word like "subtle" USED correctly, many may mistakenly assume that the spelling is, likewise, correct as well...
      Imagine being the unlucky person who carries this incorrect spelling with them, continuing to flash it here and there when emailing or texting customers, employees or (knock on wood) potential employers, all the while confidently thinking that you're showcasing your mastery of the written word (which can often be even more important than your public speaking ability), only to instead unintentionally leave your intended audience with evidence that you might be under-educated (and therefore under-qualified or unprofessional), and that the only one who can't see this is YOU...
      I don't want that for you.... not for ANY of you.... however, as I suppose there are exceptions to every rule, I'm sure the same will inevitably apply here, as well...
      PS: I've included the last statement to illustrate an example of what it might look like if I WERE trying to sound condescending or antagonistic..... but only for the sake of contrast, of course...!! 😉 )

      PSS: I'm aware that my comment has an unnecessary extra comma or two, and at least one instance of a [borderline] run-on sentence; however, these types of editing mistakes are much more commonplace -- and therefore, more easily overlooked -- than failing so epically to correctly spell a six-letter-word with a $10 price tag.
      (Again -- for contrast's sake... 😘)

    • @xallstatex2910
      @xallstatex2910 2 года назад

      PSSS: Regrettably, my OCD-inspired rant somehow evolved into a not-so-subtle flex. Fortunately, though, it was only a virtual flex (which, let's be honest; technically, I'm pretty sure that this means that - in reality - it never really happened in the first place... and thus, no regrets)...!!

    • @xallstatex2910
      @xallstatex2910 2 года назад

      PSSSS: Did you know that you can literally just keep adding an additional "S" to begin and denote each new postscript, and it's technically still compliant with correct writing practices [of informal letters]...?
      Okay, I'm done amusing myself... for now, I mean...
      Drop a 👍if you found any of this funny or helpful in some way.
      (Doing so won't impact my decision whether to share my thoughts with all of you in the future or not, but at least I'll know that some of you read this -- which is all that matters to me in the current situation... lol)

    I had to go through the comments and oh man of man. for those who are the telecommunication industry or networking would know that this doesn't fix Jack. 1. in order for the network not to be overloaded each customer is give a rate limit. you buy a 10Mbps down and 10mbps up that's all you will get.
    your speeds will always be that or lower, another factor is the product type. normally we two types a Broadband or Direct Internet Access {DIA} these services have what we call contention ratio with DIA it 1:1 meaning your speeds should always be 10 down and 10 up. for broadband different companies set it at different ratio's but the most common is 1:25.
    what also count is the medium of your connection wireless (including 5G and Wifi, copper and fiber have different factors that affect speeds. doing a speed test over WIFI will yield different results than when you are connected via a LAN cable. when you ISP has locked your line to a certain speed nor matter what you do how you do it it wont change.
