Apple has had several updates since this video. If you are on iOS 16, from the Wi-Fi settings, tap the new "Edit" button and authenticate yourself, and you'll see a list of Known Networks, which are all of the hotspots you've saved to your iPhone or iCloud Keychain from your other Apple devices.

Keep your old phone and use it as a second device to access free WiFi.
Don't put a SIM in and don't put any apps that have any access to most of your life.
I only have Gmail/RUclips on my second device
I turn off Wi-Fi whenever I'm not using it, even when I'm at home.
Or... You can be like me and get a mobile hotspot for $50 for the device and $50/month for 100GB data. I even use it for my PC's data and don't use landlines. 😁
Your not turning off wifi when you hit the button. Your simply pausing it for your use/function... think about it. Most of our modern day devices dont have an off button.. it's a stand by button. Still on still active.

I always disable my wi-fi via the quick settings when I'm not at home but that's because it saves on battery life, wasn't aware about the vulnerably concerns about keeping the wi-fi on when it's not actually being used. Thanks for another informative video, Liron Segev.

if you swipe down and turn off wifi from the quick change menu on iPhone it doesn't turn wifi completely off but that is what you want as it just listens for nearby networks to get the ip address for more accurate location in addition to the GPS.

Sorry to be a downer - but shutting off WiFi in the QUICK SETTINGS menu DOES NOT DISABLE IT
I knew this intuitively a few years ago. I turn my wifi off my phone before walking out of the door. It is now a habit for me. I then turn it back on when I come back home. Good that you are sharing this video though. Thank you. Good job!

@@LironSegev But the data comes on even if we turn it off. Check it out and you'll see. The way to turn it off so it doesn't come up automatically is to lower the data use to the lowest possible.

For years I have made it a habit to have things like WiFi and Bluetooth turned off.
Not because of security so much(but it is a positive) but because if they are on when not needed, it drains the battery faster.
One thing I like about my Samsung, are the Bixby routines. Mine is set to turn on WiFi at home, but as soon as I leave and the connection is broken(too far away) it turns WiFi off.
I have an S21 Ultra. Thanks for the heads-up, so I can figure out how to do that. I already keep them turned off when I leave, but it'll be nice to automate it.
Wifi and Bluetooth would take months to drain a phone's battery unless there's an active connection but even then power usage is low. It's an absolute myth that switching them off will have any noticeable effect on battery life.
@@chriscliffordCH you should try it. It takes months in airplane mode. I personally know this cause I still use some old devices off and on for certain equipment that's bt compatible
@@chriscliffordCH Not a myth, I am a living testimony for it. That's why I turn my wi-fi off. Even when sleeping.
Also, helps battery life overall throughtout day. I do the same & this is just an added bonus. I'm extremely frugal with battery as I have an iPhone 13 mini, so even more so now. Easily gets through day, but glad i'm not only person who does this. Drives me crazy, but now feel better after watching this video.

Your phone DOES actually listen to you. I remember when my family went for a walk and my dad was the only one with a phone. We all put our phones on airplane mode for battery, we were talking about oatmeal. Guess what the first thing that shows up on amazon is when he turns on amazon? OATMEAL PRODUCTS. We were also way far from home. So yeah...

For iPhones if you go into the wi-fi settings “edit” is on the top right hand side, this will show you the networks you’ve connected to recently and you can delete the ones that seem appropriate. Hope this helps :)

I've always shut off WiFi when leaving home because sometimes the iPhone will struggle with "handing off" internet connection between WiFi and Cellular. Disabling WiFi before leaving home prevents this. Great to know it aids in increasing security too. Thanks!

This isn’t new, and neither are the channels fear mongering about it.
For those wondering, the only advantage of active discovery is if the SSID of a saved network is hidden, you can autoconnect to it, but that’s a very niche situation, which is why phones are switching to passive discovery.
Do you know if it's possible to use a vpn for spors betting apps, without the apps knowing?

Liron, thank you so much for this useful information! I just experienced the store ping phenomena. I was looking in a closed shop window early in the morning before open hours and when I got home they came up in both mt You Tube and Facebook feed which kinda of mildly freaked me out a bit. it felt very big brother. Dude I'd love to see you put out a guide you could even sell like the top twenty basics for seniors to know about their phones. super old people might not care but 60&70 somethings do. We can use our phone for all kinds of stuff but security is not our area of expertease. This one video now means I have to binge watch all the rest. especially needing info around AI.

Excellent video! I've been telling folks this for years. Turn off WiFi & Bluetooth if your not actively connected to it.
Do a one up and disable Auto Connect. This helps detour de-auth pre-attack activity.

I tend to use wifi at home and 5g/4g when out. Given that most carriers offer economical unlimited mobile data plans and that most corporate wifi is way bad in comparison, and that most don't carry a laptop everywhere anyway, doing this makes the most sense. Not to mention that I use airplane mode at work to save battery when working 😀. And only use location when necessary!

PSA: Apple DOES have an option to see every wifi you've connected to and delete them. go to settings > wifi > edit (top right hand corner) and click each red circle with a minus to delete them then press DONE. Super important that you press done. or else you won't delete them. OR if you DON'T want to delete the network press the circle "i" on the specific network name and go to "auto join" and toggle it OFF.

To see your face time without wifi
With the new iOS 16.1 update, Apple allows you to see your previous Wi-Fi if you go to wifi in settings then click edit. You can also see the Wi-Fi passwords there as well

I don't use public wifi or anything that asks for my location big mistake. The only Wi-Fi I connect to is home Wi-Fi. I don't go to hotels anyway most of the time I have Wi-Fi turned off and use it on my computer. Thanks for your videos very useful information I can tell others to keep their Wi-Fi off in public.

I have to say that the phones do pick up on your conversations. On more than one occasion I have gotten ads for certain products after talking about them over the phone. I have VPN as well and don't even like using WiFi on my phone even at home.
I looked at a product on eBay, and it later began appearing on other sites. I also watch a lot of Nintendo videos on RUclips, so I get lots of Nintendo ads
Never happen to me ever. I never receive junk email, if i give my email to subscribe for smth i immediately disable their subscription letters. No junk emails for me. Aalthough i did receive a few phishing sms after i gave my new phone number to my bank, i did it personally through a clerk. But as i ignored 3 or 4 phishing sms that i was entitled to some free money or smth they just stopped.

Very interesting video Liron, as it happens I was always turning off the WiFi on my cheap and cheerful Vodafone x9 ( very good camera for the price,by the way) as it would constantly beep at me as I walked past various houses with WiFi and I couldn't seem to stop it! Also I found that when going online outside, it would tell me there was no connection but turning WiFi off resolved the issue.Possibly quirks of a cheap handset I suppose.Now that I've upgraded to a more sophisticated Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 Pro ( great phone) I will definitely turn it off outside.Keep up the good work.

I used to work for Motorola and one thing that has stayed with me in particular was "how to prolong your battery life" because of that I always have everything turned off that I don't use, when I leave my home I'll turn off my wifi, I only turn my mobile data on when I'm ready to use my phone. They don't give women pockets so I have to store my phone in my backpack and what's the point of having the mobile data on when I can't reach it? Same for Bluetooth and location services etc. I used to use my phone on Airplane mode at night as wellxD
So, the first 10 seconds and video description translates to me as "This content is not for me, I never use WiFi, just LTE Data, but I will still play this video thru to the end and leave a comment/like because Liron's channel has saved my ass so many times."

@@percyfaith11 There is no reason to use it when 4G LTE v WiFi has no noticable difference in my area. "Data-Caps" as we knew them 10 years ago are a total thing of the past when it comes to major telecoms. The less devices on my home network, the better.

On iPhones you can set up a shortcut to disable wifi and Bluetooth when leaving a certain location and turn them back on when you return. It's easy to set up and a great feature for people who tend to forget to turn them off.

Great videos! Thank you. I always shut my WiFi and blue tooth off if I am not using it. These are awesome tricks.
My phone is set to have the WIFI off until I enter a certain geographic area and then it automatically turns back on ( like when a get home ). Generally, though, I don't worry that much about being tracked or Man in the middle. I know what information my phone leaks and I'm comfortable with it.
Okay, so this is only a problem if you're someone who connects to open WiFi hot spots. How can someone connect to your phone without the WiFi password? Only reason I know to that it is better to keep WiFi off when you are out in public is that you will lose more battery while it is constantly scanning also having WiFi on helps keep your location available for your device because some software out there can tell where you are by the nearest WiFi location.
They don't have to connect to your phone. They just intercept the data coming off your phone
More security features should be available for WIFI routers including Personal Hotspots etc.
There should be ways to disable WiFi signals from outside the house walls or WiFi server encryptions with alarms so if someone breaks into your WiFi an alarm should go off.

for Apple iPhone and iPad you can erase the list of the joined wifi networks via Setting, Wi-Fi, on the Top right there is Edit, click on the Edit, then known Networks, you can delete the networks individually by click on left side red circle then click on the delete icon right side.

Simply switching off wifi is not the answer here. As you mentioned, you can’t scrape info unless someone is physically logged into that public network. Keeping wifi enabled improves location accuracy for driving and beacons help improve traffic. I don’t have a problem with retail beacons for places I frequent either. Some of them are food and beverage stores so you have to keep those enabled to use the app service. I think the subject matter of internet safety is important, but disabling essential features on your phone just seems too paranoid and can be misleading to people who don’t understand what you’re talking about. Then they suddenly have difficulty with apps malfunctioning because settings are disabled.

Also, the phone uses SSID, not the name itself
You can see a list of ALL known networks on iOS by going to the wifi menu in settings and pressing edit on the top right.
But honestly, this is something that doesn't really bother me because it's harmless. So what if you see a ping from my phone? You still can't do anything to the phone. It might be different if I had a public network on my phone you could spoof, but I don't.
If you have never ever used an unsecured WiFi in your life then you are good.

If I have used only wifi in T-mobile or Verizon store, am my phone at risk?
technically I could set up a T-Mobile or a Verizon hotspot since these are open networks that don't require a password. So yes. What I would do it delete those wifi from your list. Whenever you need to use them in a store, just connect to it (with a VPN) and then forget that network when you are done.

You can do it on iPhone go to setting WiFi and then edit in top right and it bring them all up

Thanks for the info. I now use a Bixby routine that disables my Wi-Fi when I'm not within 300 M of home.
Also your as your phone tries to connect to all available wifi connections it can make a connection to a network you are not allowed to access thereby break the law of "Illegal/Unauthorised access to a network" without you knowing it.
For iOS user, just configure an automation in shortcut app. Really easy, it took me 10 second after watching this video ->open shortcut app-> +new automation -> when « departure » select position of your home ( you can determine a detection leaving area from 100m and above ) -> next choose an action ( type wifi in suggestion ) it will propose you « adjust wifi » just push to change « activate » or « désactivate ». That’s it !
I don’t know if it reactivate automatically when am back home so I Create the same automation with « when arrived » -> activate WiFi.
I live in a town of 5100 people, so it doesn't matter, and it's the Canadian Shield. Sirius Satellite cuts out in some of the places they had to blast to make a road, like even under our old CO-OP parking lot which is made of solid concrete you'll get no signal lol.
For iPhone to see the full list of networks just go to settings > Wi-Fi > Edit (at upper right of screen) this will show the full list of networks you have registered on the phone

On iPhone it is possible to see the list of known networks.
Use the Shortcuts app.
Automation -> New -> Create Personal Automation -> Wi-Fi -> Network (Choose)
Now you are able to see a list of all known networks!
But unfortunately you are not able to delete one of them.
It is only possible to reset all network settings.

For iPhone, you can view a list of all networks you've connected to if they synced to your appleid's keychain on a mac in network preferences. They should all be the same if you're on the same Apple ID
