Its true: Gaming doesn't need a high bandwidth, but not having a high bandwidth can become problematic if you are running servers or have other people using the same internet as you. If you bump against the bandwidth ceiling, you will introduce artificial latency and dropped packets. If you want to avoid those lag spikes and high latency that appear randomly when room mates are in the other room kicking off a large download, you need to make sure that you have plenty of bandwidth for both of you. You can play video games just fine on a 10Mbps connection, until someone tries to Facetime their grandma.
I live an a rural area. There’s only one ISP available. They only offer one 10MB plan. I only get at maximum 2MB. On most days it’s less than 1MB. I don’t live alone either, so anytime someone wants to use the internet, we have to negotiate a time because only one person can use the wifi at a time. I pay way more for my phones data plan because it’s incredibly fast compared to my home wifi and I don’t have to worry about low bandwidth. I can barely play online games, and it’s usually only reliable during off peak hours.
One thing I like to do when there is a data cap involved, is to find the total amount of time it would take for the data cap to be reached going at the max speed you paid for. Most of the time I find it to be under 24 hours which means you aren't really getting a huge benefit out of your faster speeds.
/me cries Data caps are rife here in Australia, thankfully my family have an unlimited plan but most companies go with data caps mostly so they can stem the bleeding. You see the government installed all the fibre backend, then had the entity managing it charge all the ISPs per MB they sent through fibre network, thereby incentivising ISPs to stick to data caps and recommend shitty slow speeds like 12/1 as "Fast" broadband.
Another nice tip to split your router into 2.4 and 5 Ghz. The 5 Ghz usually grants much higher speeds, though the distance between the router and device is way shorter than the 2.4 Ghz
Although bandwidth isn't super important when playing online games, it is important when downloading games, or anything for that matter. For activities like web browsing, video streaming, or gaming, data usage is relatively consistent. But when downloading files, your computer will try to pull data down as fast as the internet connection will allow. So higher bandwidth will always mean faster download speeds. For example, a 100mbps connection will download a 2 GB file in 1m40s, although it will generally be longer because the bandwidth will be shared between devices and you likely will experience some slowdowns. Wheras a 1gbps connection will download the same file in 16 seconds, with the same caveats.
10 dollars for 1 Gigabit? Are you sure? Your VAT rates are highest in whole EU (27%) and you can get that speed for so cheap? I am from Lithuania so the prices should be very similar to the ones in Hungary as both countries are very similar in economical and internet infrastructure development. You can't get 1 Gigabit for 10 dollars (or even euros) in Lithuania. In Lithuania it cost almost 20 €/month (about 15-21 €/month) for normal user. I think the wholesale price is about this much for 1 Gigabit interet. Although you can easily get 300 Mbps for 10-15 €/month in almost all places where you can get fibre.

100mbps is perfect and honestly can't tell the difference between 100 and the 200 we have now 99% of the time, unless I am downloading games or videos. When downloading it's twice as fast. Most of my games took like 1-2 hours (sizes are sometimes 100GB and that took 2 hours) and now it's half that. But you can never be satisfied with download times as there is always room for improvement, but for video streaming 100mbps still allows 8k HDR which is the max quality on RUclips.

Data caps are rife here in Australia, thankfully my family have an unlimited plan but most companies go with data caps mostly so they can stem the bleeding.

Gigabit is so slow!
Considering my hometown was monopolized by dsl, which charged $60/month for 10 down 1 up, I'm more than happy to pay $50/month for 100 down 10 up. As a student who lives alone it's honestly a steal and more than fast enough for just me.
